You see a blanket on the ground. It's your favorite color, smooth and soft. You can sit on it, or lie on it. It's a flying blanket, and you are the pilot. You are in control. You can fly anywhere you wish, just by thinking about it. You are the pilot.

@Pete And the Well and Echo....well, and compuserve, quantumlink, etc.
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 10:13pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

I tried an experiment years ago when I lived with roommates who all hung out around the TV every night by preemptively taking over the living room and putting on Mike Lupica. Everyone always talked over the TV, but with Lupica on, they went silent and listened. It was profound.
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 10:14pm G:

This Rocket Man sounds like he really *is* upset about his job.

What the hell is Sean Landers doing here?
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 10:17pm Matt from Springfield:

Go Sean! Go Tangled Up In Tape! I have one of the "Check Dolby B" premiums, but nothing quite like this on them!
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 10:18pm steve:

Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 10:19pm G:

What was that, Ike? The end of The Musical Box? :p
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 10:20pm Caryn:

Landers has bumped Dan's premium to my current top 2.
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 10:21pm G:

He's afraid of losing it and having a disabling stroke?
Avatar Mon. 3/4/13 10:25pm Dan Bodah:

I love you guys. The audience that loves Sean Landers = the best audience this WFMU DJ could hope for!
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 10:26pm Sugarfly Waterloo:

Surely he can't be afraid of clowns, raccoons, sewing, and mould.
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 10:27pm G:

He's got a deathly fear of prog.
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 10:28pm Sugarfly Waterloo:

No.. a fear of prog wouldn't be something a WFMU fan would laugh at.
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 10:33pm Droll:

I turn on my Internets machine, press the WFMU button, and BAM! There it is: Prog! And Mike Lupica's voice! Is ML prog? What did I miss?!
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 10:34pm Caryn:

So that's where the crumbs in last year's package came from?
Mon. 3/4/13 10:35pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

Dan Bodah's enthusiasm for the esoteric is plenty reason to donate to WFMU. I really love countless elements of the station. I got my mouse of today in last Friday, and feel a great sense of relief.
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 10:35pm G:

@Droll: They claim they will rat out Ken's deadliest closely-held fear if they get big pledges.
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 10:37pm Caryn:

Ken's secret is obviously that he's afraid Rammstein doesn't love him as much as he loves Rammstein.
Mon. 3/4/13 10:37pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

@G; @Droll: for only a couple of Y3K pledges.
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 10:38pm G:

@Caryn: Sounds like a normal marriage.
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 10:38pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@G: Sorry the heart feels cutesy. I conceived of the idea of a badge for pledgers, but it was someone else who suggested that it be a heart! It probably beats my sketch, which had a dollar sign...
@JoshuaK: I'll dig around, we probably have some spare hearts somewhere...
@MikeL! Holy shit I need to pledge (Pavlov)
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 10:40pm cklequ:

nothing but the hits.....
Hildur Guðnadóttir
is topping the charts these days.
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 10:40pm Mike Lupica:

I am totally prog.
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 10:40pm G:

I don't mind that much. :-) I'm not above emoticons, after all, which I fought in the 90s and then gave up on. :-)

Just not much of a joiner, which might partly explain the interest in all over the place freeform
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 10:42pm Droll:

If WFMU DJs have any "Guilty Pleasure Music", it's prog. Why does this pointless charade of ZERO prog shows continue?!
G, That ELP+Miles picture is becoming the "wallpaper" on my devices, one by one.
Kenzo, I like the new ♥ feature, but I shall not be shamed into changing my 14 year-old strategy of waiting for week 2 get the best swag.
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 10:43pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@Droll: I guess we need a special icon for that. What would it be?
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 10:43pm G:

The salute to bellbottoms jpeg, Droll? Yeah, that's seared into my brain
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 10:45pm Sugarfly Waterloo:

Shouldn't it be one of those things you put in the middle of a 45 instead of heart
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 10:50pm Ike:

Droll, are the best prizes really in week 2? I'm not sure that's true. Do you have attribution for this claim? I think Snopes might refute this urban legend!
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 10:54pm Droll:

Ike, Absolutely! I keep detailed records and run regression analysis to maximize ROI.
- Week 1: All Sun Ra and cut-outs.
- Week 2: Stuff only heard on Bethany's show.
Every year it's the same, with or without A440.
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 10:57pm G:

Sounds like Droll's the Swagmeister General
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:01pm Droll:

G, Ever get an handwritten postcard from FMU? Priceless.
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:01pm Ike:

I sit corrected.

BTW, Bethany is filling in for Kurt this Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. (ET)! The big metaphorical fundraising guns!
Mon. 3/4/13 11:04pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

Who is this Droll anyway, and what evidence do we have that said participant is not cleaning up in week one, using his/her other handles? Like a Greg, or Kathy, or Humbert Humbert. Conspiracy theory 101.
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:05pm Droll:

Ike, That appointment is now on my calendar. Thanks for the heads-up.
Mon. 3/4/13 11:05pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

The big takeover? Hahaha.
Mon. 3/4/13 11:06pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

Don't let Droll run circles around you, fence-sitters! ;-)
Mon. 3/4/13 11:12pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

Speaking of Sublime Frequencies, I am very much looking forward to putting Alan Bishop's new group the Invisible Hands' record in my mouth.
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:16pm Droll:

Adam, If I can't be shamed by the people I know, I definitely can't by shamed by a complete stranger with no Friendship Society account. I live in Fremont, Seattle, if you want to drive down to shame me in person. I'm buying.
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:17pm G:

Love is in the air ♥
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:17pm Caryn:

Oh man, my attempt to stay online throughout the Marathon is failing. 45 hours awake, and I'm giving it a few more hours until I need some sleep. Darn it.
Avatar Mon. 3/4/13 11:18pm Dan Bodah:

Go Caryn!!
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:18pm G:

Mon. 3/4/13 11:18pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

@Droll: I'm my own secret society, but would love to have a delightful dinner together sometime all the same. We can play our WFMU gifts for one another as friends and confidantes. <3
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:19pm Caryn:

Is this Khorsid a prize?
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:20pm G:

yep, they said. you're getting SLEEPY :p
Avatar Mon. 3/4/13 11:21pm Dan Bodah:

YES, Caryn, the Khorsid double album is going to given away soon so get your pledge in if you want to be in the drawing. Getting close to our $2000 goal everyone!!
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:23pm Caryn:

@G: yeah, much of the conversation is going over my head now. Man, I'm tired.
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:23pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Yeah, Caryn, you've been here as long as I have, which means you also don't remember to sleep!
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:24pm Holly in NC:

@G - I'd gleefully & insouciantly throw my hat in the air, except my bedroom's really darn cold! Plus insouciance, while a nifty word, doesn't really describe either my or MTM's mood.
Husker Du's MTM theme cover so good ( too tired to character map umlauts)
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:25pm G:

Insouciantly! Nofair, literary adverbs are too disarming :p
Mon. 3/4/13 11:25pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

Heyyyyy, Holly! I look forward to seeing you on the board, always.
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:28pm Caryn:

Yay, I won! First time I ever won anything during the Marathons! See, staying awake was worth it! And no worries, Dan, sending it along with all my swag will bring the postage down ;)
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:28pm G:

Now get some sleep! :p
Mon. 3/4/13 11:29pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

Right on, Caryn!
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:31pm Holly in NC:

Hi Adam! I'm glad you're not really fighting with Droll!
Caryn, get some nice deep sleep - I suggest a hot blanket & a cold pillow.
Also a cat, and whiskey.
Figure if you have a person they're already in place ;-)
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:32pm G:

It's coming back to me that Caryn was already on the edge of sleep deprivation during the Smiths interview about 23 hours ago now...
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:32pm Caryn:

@G: you just want me out of the way so you can win all the prizes :p
Sleep is still a few hours away (it's now 6.30 a.m. here, and have morning chores to do before turning in).
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:34pm G:

Not me, I have to go to bed in a few to be up at 7am and run some errands that I have already procrastinated -- my procastination cards are played out!
Mon. 3/4/13 11:35pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

@Holly: of course it's not a genuine fight. We are all victims of absence of discernible tone in written text at one time or another, no? I can be lazy with the written word sometimes. Not descriptive or elaborate enough.
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:37pm G:

aka "teasing"
Mon. 3/4/13 11:37pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

Hahaha! You've nailed it, G! And so succinctly.
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:38pm Holly in NC:

@Adam - still wish we'd met at Brownies :-)
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:38pm Caryn:

@G: I know, that was supposed to be my time to sleep and rest up for the Marathon wakefulness, and then WFMU springs some Smiths on me? So that screwed with my whole schedule, meaning I'm utterly exhausted now.
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:39pm G:

blew your sleep schedule to smith-ereens
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:39pm Caryn:

Zing, G!
Mon. 3/4/13 11:40pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

@Holly: Someday in NC, or Portland. We'll have such tales to tell.
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:42pm Mike Lupica:

Wooden Shjips new album up for grabs now! BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ in your headphones. Call NOW! 1-800-989-9368!
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:42pm Droll:

insouciance /inˈso͞osēəns/ Where has this word been all my life?!

Adam, Seriously, send mail to agreatmany@rotang.com and claim a free beer! That goes for the rest of you, too! (Must be present to win. 21 and over.)

I agree w/Holly: Three most important factors to falling asleep quickly: Warm blankets, cold pillow, Whiskey. I'm allergic to cats, but assume that does help most people for obvious reasons.
Mon. 3/4/13 11:42pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

@Holly: should we just meet next year in Jersey City to pitch in during pledge?
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:43pm Holly in NC:

Now have Love & Rockets stuck in my head, likely not Adam's intent!
All good, & Wooden Shjips will scrub everything anyway
Mon. 3/4/13 11:44pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

Thank you, Droll! Very gentlemanly! I'm on it. Thank you! :-)
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:44pm Sugarfly Waterloo:

I find that a shot of whiskey in a hot cup of tea does wonders.
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:46pm Caryn:

Have the blanket and the pillow. No whiskey or cat (want one, can't afford it). But I figure getting to sleep ain't going to be a problem. Unless I've reached that "too tired to sleep" phase, but I don't think I have.
Mon. 3/4/13 11:47pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

@Holly, I'm told David J. lives in Portland these days. Nonetheless, not my intent. Haha. But, David J., if you're reading this, you can make it my intent....for a free meal at Pok Pok Noi. I'm easy.
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:50pm G:

Maybe Ken'll pledge $2000 to keep you from telling.
Mon. 3/4/13 11:51pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

@G: If it was Andy Breckman, he would at least hint at it.
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:53pm Mike Lupica:

John Allen has entered the phone room and is doing Jazzercise moves.
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:54pm Mike Lupica:

Just thought you should all know this.
Mon. 3/4/13 11:54pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

Such joy in listening to Dan Bodah and Mike Lupica working in tandem.
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:54pm Sugarfly Waterloo:

Nice knowing I can spread a bit pledge around. I already own most of tonight's prizes, after all they are awesome enough.
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:55pm Holly in NC:

@Adam - I would love to meet you, and all fmu friends, up north next year. Fingers crossed!

I would insist we road trip to Pepe's in New Haven.
Mon. 3/4/13 11:55pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

I'm in!
Avatar    Mon. 3/4/13 11:56pm InBrkly:
