Listener comments!

  3:05am Marmalade Kitty:

Good morning Bill.
theres a pink floyd song I've never heard before!
  3:06am Pigeon:

This Redfearn is incredible. Listening in the Catskills.
Avatar 3:08am Brian in UK:

Hey up Bill, MK & Pigeon. Thawing out after dog walk. Brrrr.
  3:08am Marmalade Kitty:

Is that a training/exhibition camp for cats?
Avatar 3:10am Bill Mac:

Ladies and gentlemen! Pink Floyd did some songs on this Zabriskie Point Soundtrack, and yeah, this Redfearn is incredible. I thought it was a joke band judging by the bands name. Hey yo Bri!
  3:11am Marmalade Kitty:

Hi everyone! ..beautiful Pidge! just googled the mountains
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13am Stanley:

Hello Bill and fellow listeners. Good to be tuning in once again.
  3:14am Emile:

Shake that thing, Bill.
Avatar 3:16am Brian in UK:

Hello Stanley, bit early, didya wet the bed!!!!!!
Avatar 3:17am Brian in UK:

East of Eden was it Mercator Projected the first album?
Avatar 3:18am Bill Mac:

Wow Brian, that only took.... 16 minutes. Stanley's welcome here anytime, moist or not. That goes for Emile too!
Avatar 3:19am Bill Mac:

Not sure Brian, I got this off of a nifty comp of Decca psych and prog. Named afetr a Moody Blues tune methinks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19am Stanley:

Aw Brian! True I'm up early, thought I'd get in some full live Bill action today to make up for the last few Saturdays mornings either spent on trains, planes or other inconvenient places.
Avatar 3:20am Brian in UK:

The think about albums was it was cool to carry them around. you can never look cool carrying a CD. Early Jack Bruce/King Crimson. Oh the artwork.
Avatar 3:21am Jay/London:

good morning Bill and all the gang... after last weeks show I went out and found a L.P. of John Berberian's middle eastern Rock ... thanks bill for playing it last week
Avatar 3:23am Brian in UK:

No offence, Stanley, how was Bristol?
Yeah Bill, In Seach of A Lost Chord, only one I bought apart from Go Now single.
Avatar 3:23am Bill Mac:

Brian, words to live by. I was watching the news before trying to sleep this evening and they did a special on the comeback of vinyl - a piece of fluff for sure but if the major media gets ahold of something like that it must have been true for a year or so already
Avatar 3:24am Brian in UK:

Hey Jay. The man has come back stronger than ever.
Avatar 3:25am Bill Mac:

Morning Jay, the one tune I knew of his before last week is called Chem-oo-Chem - another corker. There's a world group out of Texas USA called Brave Combo that did a nice cover of it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27am Stanley:

Brian - It's a secret cool to have amazing mp3s stashed on the ol' phone knowing that at any baby screaming moment other personal invasion, its out with the ear buds and on with Acid Mothers Temple or some other soothing and restoring experience. Oh yes, those little mp3 files get my vote every time.
Avatar 3:28am Jay/London:

i think Vinyl is so much better then cd if at all poss I try to buy Vinyl .. the John Berberian L.P. is second Hand but is in mint Bill
Avatar 3:31am Jay/London:

there is place for them Stanley ... after all we can not walk down the street with a record player
Avatar 3:32am Bill Mac:

Speaking of which, have you guys ever checked out the Mutant Sounds blog? Lotsa left of center music. I spied 10 CDs worth of Kawabata Makoto Early Works out there if you interested... Stanley.
Acid Mothers is not exactly my cup of tea but i feel like I should be checking them out when they wander thru here. They're at least as good as a crying baby, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32am Stanley:

Budgie - now there's a band I thought I'd never hear again!
Avatar 3:33am Bill Mac:

@Jay, and a stack of 33s.
Avatar 3:34am Bill Mac:

Unknown in the states, but I picked up on them myself back in the 70s, along with your other favorite, Alex Harvey. Thank God for cut out bins
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34am Stanley:

Mutant Sounds still going? I thought the guy had given up his fignt against the file storage companies, Rapidshare and the like?
Avatar 3:35am Jay/London:

this version of "baby please don't go" is good ... but I like The Version by Them Better
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35am Stanley:

@Bill - I have a soft spot for psychedelia in moments of weakness.
Avatar 3:36am Bill Mac:

It seems to be on life support at the moment, but he re-upped a bunch of stuff back in November. Yeah seems like a losing battle. No surprise right?
Avatar 3:37am Brian in UK:

Jay what about those non PC named ghetto blasters? Weighed half a ton.
Avatar 3:39am Bill Mac:

At least we don't have to hear other peoples' music on the sub anymore, although in retrospect it was probably my first exposure to bands like Funkadelic.
Avatar 3:39am Jay/London:

@ Brian yeah so glad they died out ... sometimes we see them in boot sales
Avatar 3:41am Brian in UK:

So Bill, how's the leg? Sounds like a Roger Ruskin Spear track.
Avatar 3:42am Brian in UK:

'I've found the men sir, God I wish I hadn't'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42am Stanley:

@Brian - now I had one of those when I was around twenty years old. My defining moment of cool was walking into the Crystal Palace Bowl for a Bob Marley gig (I think) and switching this huge mother on, blasting out 'Free Nelson Mandela' by The Specials. I had got this single the day before and no-one had heard it yet. I felt a million dollars.
Avatar 3:42am Bill Mac:

I'm always curious what other folks have on their i-pods.Might be shallow but I think you can tell a lot about a person by what they listen too... I don't know exactly what that is yet, but I think I'm on to something
Avatar 3:43am Jay/London:

people play stuff so loud . on the trains buses . all we hear is the beat it drives me mad
Avatar 3:45am Bill Mac:

@Brian - Isn't that what Viv says in "Noises for the Leg"? Another band that found us back in the day. I remember playing "Slush" out my bedroom window to annoy the neighbors. They look at the leg monday. I think they're gonna let me stand on it!!!
Avatar 3:45am Brian in UK:

Strange but true
Avatar 3:45am Brian in UK:

The Special AKA?
  3:45am Emile:

Sonic Youth on the Zero Hour, Whaddya know?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46am Stanley:

Yeah, that's the one
Avatar 3:46am Brian in UK:

Spot on Bill. It was Roger playing a thermin.
Avatar 3:46am Bill Mac:

Stanley That's what I'm saying. Like an aural 10 Commandments.
  3:47am Marmalade Kitty:

here comes Bill...
Avatar 3:50am Brian in UK:

Great news, Bill.
Never got past a little mp3 player, can play it in the car though. Could you twist one up on a download?
Avatar 3:54am Looms:

Hello there!
Avatar 3:55am Jay/London:

@ Brian Some Sink-holes are very big .. there was one in Japan I think some years ago that took a few buildings down
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56am Stanley:

Avatar 3:57am Brian in UK:

Hey Looms how is la belle France?
How can Yo La Tengo be playing when they are touring Europe?
Avatar 4:00am Looms:

Brian, I heard that they will be playing from Berlin.
Avatar 4:01am Brian in UK:

Thanks Looms, thought cloning might be involved.
Avatar 4:04am Bill Mac:

@Looms You are both right...
Avatar 4:05am Looms:

Clones will be playing from Berlin?!?
Avatar 4:07am Bill Mac:

... in Tokyo and the Moscow too.
Avatar 4:09am Brian in UK:

Bill, a cravat for the Hoof & Mouth what say you sir?
Avatar 4:10am Bill Mac:

Maybe not a cravat, but certainly a cast....
Avatar 4:10am Brian in UK:

The Clones sound familiar.
Avatar 4:11am Bill Mac:

Actually YLT will be in Berlin for everything. The show should be interesting.
Avatar 4:12am Brian in UK:

These modern casts mean you cannot scrawl rude things all over them.
Avatar 4:14am Looms:

New release alert for Spaceheads.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15am Stanley:

Oooh, I like these spaceheads
Avatar 4:15am Bill Mac:

Yes!!! Maybe a tour to boot
Avatar 4:16am Jay/London:

  4:16am Pigeon:

Trumpet + Echoplex = good.
Avatar 4:20am Brian in UK:

Me too 'till internet went down.
Avatar 4:21am Bill Mac:

Looks like the new tune is just a tease - a four song EP will be out in April.
I'll take it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22am Stanley:

manu Dibango?
Avatar 4:23am Brian in UK:

Surely that's Dobly?
Avatar 4:24am Bill Mac:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25am Stanley:

How embarrassing is that? Thought I'd beat Bill to the playlist all smug and that. Then realised my iTunes player switched to one of my own tracks!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27am Stanley:

For the record it was 'Cielito Lindo' by Cuarteto Patria & Manu Dibango
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28am Stanley:

I always thought what Too Much Pizza would sound like
Avatar 4:29am Bill Mac:

Hah, I thought you were requesting Manu.
Avatar 4:29am Looms:

Want another good tease, Bill?
New release alert for Arrington de Dionyso/Malaikat dan Singa
Avatar 4:30am KP:

Hey Bill. Sorry I'm late.
Avatar 4:32am Bill Mac:

Hey man, you're here! Nobody that gets somewhere at 430 am is late.... unless the wife sez so.
Avatar 4:38am Bill Mac:

@Looms Is there a new Arrington Malaikat thing coming out? Last one came out around 2010
Avatar 4:40am Looms:

Yeah, it will be available at the end of april (I think)
Avatar 4:42am Bill Mac:

He played the record fair a few months back at the Bell House. I heard the music in general for that event was pretty great.
Avatar 4:44am KP:

Well since I am no longer in Jersey City I've been getting home earlier. But then Mrs KingPenguinRock is up around. So we hang out. now only the cat is up so here we are.
Avatar 4:52am KP:

Sinfonia there? Will it be for public like at Maxwells?
Avatar 4:53am Bill Mac:

No KP....but... you're a friend... got me?
Avatar 4:57am Brian in UK:

Hey KP didya get the Chris Hillman link I sent you on Joe McGasko's show last Sunday?
Avatar 5:03am Bill Mac:

@Brian BTW you can write on the new casts, but it's not as fun or easy.
Avatar 5:04am KP:

I think I missed joe last week. Lemme check.
Avatar 5:05am Brian in UK:

Here it is, go to 01:48.
Avatar 5:10am Brian in UK:

The original Ubu Roi play by Alfred Jarry is on in April in London.
Avatar 5:16am KP:

Thanks Brian! Guess I was a little dozy there and missed it. I am in that area of va a lot as my wife is from there and still has family there.
Avatar 5:18am KP:

It's a bluegrass hotbed. It's also funny that I was just thinking of Hillman but then again I'm a ByrdBrain.
Avatar 5:20am Brian in UK:

Great talk by a decent man & great musician.
Avatar 5:21am KP:

Bill speaking of Sinfonias, I saw something disturbing on ken's show the other day, which in itself is not unusual
Avatar 5:22am Brian in UK:

First saw them when I was fifteen with GP in the band just afore they left for South Africa without him ofcourse.
Avatar 5:22am Bill Mac:

Ken operates at a different level than most of us mortal DJs do.
Avatar 5:24am KP:

Love Hillman, saw desert rose twice, the burritos with him jamming with Byrds, Souther Hillman first, Mcguinn Hillman clark
Avatar 5:25am KP:

Brian You have to be kidding! The Roundhouse?
Avatar 5:27am Brian in UK:

Tambourine Man was the record that turned my head at twelve years old. Never been the same since as these comments testify!!!
Avatar 5:29am KP:

But this was not posted by ken, it was delivered by Cherry Pi, and concerned a dog, Pickles the dog who ate people? Something like that
Avatar 5:30am Bill Mac:

Was it this past show?
Avatar 5:31am KP:

Was it the Roundabout, I think there was another one The shows are on bootleg I have some.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33am Stanley:

@KP I think it was Knuckles the Dog...ask Bill about it
Avatar 5:33am Brian in UK:

KP it was the Royal Albert Hall. Found a link look at the lineup.
Avatar 5:34am KP:

I live on Long Island and we are all Byrdsmaniax here. We do more straight Byrds and burritos than our recordings suggest
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35am Stanley:

You're in the zone, Bill.
Avatar 5:36am Brian in UK:

I remember this girl behind me was a fan of The Move's Trevor Burton can kept shouting TREVOR in my ear.
Avatar 5:38am KP:

My friend has that book but I just read bios of Gp and Fbb so it's a bit much.
Avatar 5:39am Brian in UK:

It's coming back, Joe Cocker did his first live version of Little Help.... it had not been released as a single then. We sat behind the bands where the orchestra normally sit. Crap seats but hey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39am Stanley:

@ Brian - did you ever see/meet Jesus at any London gigs in the seventies? Cat used to try to get on stage but would content himself with some freeform expression down the front. Seems he was at the best gigs.
Avatar 5:40am Brian in UK:

I can still hear fuckin' TREVOR in my ears now.
Avatar 5:40am Bill Mac:

You saw the Move? And Joe Cocker? And Jesus?
Avatar 5:40am Bill Mac:

Jesus musta had good seats.
Avatar 5:41am KP:

Knuckles the Dog Who Helps People. I've heard so much about Knuckles but did not realize our own Bill Mac was involved.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41am Stanley:

No, Bill its me who saw Jesus. No kidding he was everywhere.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42am Sigurdur:

Avatar 5:42am Brian in UK:

Jesus was at all the free gigs in the Park (Hyde Park) Stones in the Park was my second gig.
Avatar 5:42am Bill Mac:

Oh yeah, I performed with a wheelchair. Ironic that I'll now be performing on crutches out of necessity!
Avatar 5:43am Bill Mac:

Hey Siggy!
Avatar 5:43am KP:

Will Cheri Pi be involved?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44am Sigurdur:

hae bill
Avatar 5:44am Bill Mac:

I'll have to find out KP
Avatar 5:45am KP:

I shouldn't joke, she is very nice and great friend to station. She's never been up here, she says
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45am Stanley:

@Brian - you and Jesus go back a long way.
Avatar 5:47am KP:

Bill has knuckles ever considered a sequel?
Avatar 5:48am Brian in UK:

Some days it feels like it, Stanley.
Cookin' sounds, Bill.
Avatar 5:48am Bill Mac:

Considered that knuckles was "cut down by an assassins' bullet' I'd have to say prolly not. I carry him in my heart though
Avatar 5:49am Bill Mac:

Thanks, Brian... howsabout that Shirley Bassey killin it at the Oscars! GOLDFINGAH!
Avatar 5:50am KP:

Those pesky assassins.
Avatar 5:51am Brian in UK:

Did you ever here Shelby Lynne's take on Dusty. She's tops.
Avatar 5:51am KP:

Specially when Adele turned into Adull. And missed the last note. Not enough was made of that.
Avatar 5:53am Bill Mac:

Huh! Shelby's doing Dusty? Hmmmmm... I don't mind Adele too much, but it warmed my heart to hear a 76 year old up there belting it out.
Avatar 5:54am KP:

Who is Gary Lucas? This sounds awesome
Avatar 5:54am Brian in UK:

Hey Bill there is a 'new' Jimi Hendrix out, is there no end.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54am Stanley:

Bill - how about Searching for Sugarman getting an Oscar for best documentary. If there was ever a deserving winner.

Great show this morning. Thanks Bill. Will be absent next week as I have to visit the aged Ps. But will be on the archives.

Take care all and see you soon.
Avatar 5:55am Brian in UK:

Magic Band late version?
  5:55am Mrs. Bill Mac:

Avatar 5:55am KP:

Adele is good but some was amiss that night. Plus that song is not great.
Avatar 5:56am Bill Mac:

Gary Lucas is a New York guitarist that played in the last incarnation of Beefhearts Magic Band. He IS awesome.... check him out
Avatar 5:56am KP:

Avatar 5:56am Brian in UK:

Nice one Stanley, Great Expectations then Wemmick.
Avatar 5:58am Brian in UK:

Respect once again Mrs Mac.
Avatar 5:59am Bill Mac:
