Good morning all. This Michael Nyman track is very nice on a rainy morning.

hi faye! hi everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19am DCE:

good good day, Faye....all is well I hope
  9:25am Ahmad:

Wow what an improvement over Nico's vocals. Nico's vocals always made me queasy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am Faye:

Hello hello newcomers! I'm feeling a bit under the weather so it may be a little bit drowsy today...
Avatar 9:27am Rev. Turnip Druid:

happy Faye Day.
somebody email me a coffee pls.
Avatar 9:27am glenn:

i doubt that nico was hired for her singing abilities.
  9:28am Steve A:

nothing wrong with drowsy. sounds good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29am DCE:

gotta get this Amor de Dias!
  9:34am RevolutionRabbitNov63:

Nyman actually a great transition from previous Program
- as I think (?) Townshend would dig it - !...
- Man - ! What's that Rainy Day singer look like? (Hope Sandoval w/ a bit o' Susannah Hoffs? Early Sandoval???)
- I'm in Luuurve - ! What a great version - !
...Normally Thursdays are my Mondays - so I must part
- but hopefully I can get a computer that'll stream @ my job - a Thrift Store where I must play music - & we can stay together - !...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am Stevel:

Drowsy still seems to gather momentum (as usual!) Do what you do, Faye!
Avatar 9:38am Chris M.:

hey i'd like to request The JS Bach's Daughters doing their song Strawberry Love Symphony In A Minor, please.
Swag For Life Member 9:43am 12539:

Faye, first year on the air and you get the YLT Marathon slot!
  9:49am Ahmad:

I was wondering about that. Aren't they going to be in Europe that week? Will they be playing in some studio there?
Avatar 9:49am Cheri Pi:

Banque Allemande for the Title!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am Faye:

Ahmad- yes! they will be playing *live* from Berlin!
Avatar 9:54am amEdeo:

Coo! Coo! Coo! Coo! Coo COO coo COO! Cluck cluck.
  10:02am common:

thought that sounded like the bangles
  10:04am Mark:

They had CD's before 1989--you're SO adorable. Abraham Lincoln and I used to listen to CD's in 1985.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am Richard Nixon:

You were friends with Abe too?
  10:05am Mark:

Please--he was a wild man. I could tell you some stories.
Avatar 10:07am Rev. Turnip Druid:

I held out against CDs until about 1992. First CD purchase was The Orb's "adventures beyond the ultraworld" and that Master Musicians of Jajouka one that Laswell produced... apocalypse across the sky... odd to remember that.
Avatar 10:07am Rev. Turnip Druid:

...those funny long cardboard outer boxes...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am Richard Nixon:

Abe and I used to do lines on the Whitehouse outhouse seat while blasting Monster Magnet
Avatar 10:08am duke:

You youngsters get off my lawn. I remember when CDs were made of black plastic and you could play both sides.
Avatar 10:08am Van in DC:

  10:08am Mark:

Yeah they had to make them tall enough for the old LP bins...how many trees were needlessly slaughtered!
  10:08am maestroso:

My first CD was Kazumi Watenabe's Mobo Splash,
back in '89 I think...
  10:09am Mark:

I'm sure Faye's digging the old man convention.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10am DCE:

fabulous, (Chinese Title)! and now, to eat a biscuit.
Avatar 10:12am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Now of course, like many of us, can't get rid of the stinkin' things, & buying back all the vinyl I stupidly traded in years ago.
Avatar 10:12am amEdeo:

Just wait. One day the words "I remember Napster" will be a demarcation of archaism.
Avatar 10:13am Van in DC:

Avatar 10:13am Jeff:

Yeah, I think I bought my first CD in 1983. But all those dates in prehistory are hard to keep track of.

Pleistocene? Jurassic? Early CD? Those eras were all within a couple of years of each other, probably.
Avatar 10:14am batCattle:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15am tim from champaign:

I bought my first CD player in the 1988. It was an Aiwa cd/tape boombox. It cost over $300. I saved all summer to buy it.
  10:16am Ahmad:

This board always manages to make me feel young.
Avatar 10:17am Rev. Turnip Druid:

The "sound quality" hype was hysterical nonsense back then. There was all this mouth-breathing praise for what was sound so crystal clear, it's like getting punched inna neck by a 3-D orchestra of party face!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am DCE:

one guy where I work is on a kick of collecting early 80s boomboxes...they're always coming in via UPS. We all gather round to wonder.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am Richard Nixon:

Yeah the sound quality of early CD's was generally terrible because they simply printed CD's of the original "for vinyl" masters instead of remastering for the new format
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am Faye:

the more you know!!!
Avatar 10:21am Rev. Turnip Druid:

But then when some classic stuff was "remastered for cd," the results were shrill and unlistenable ... 50s jazz suffered terribly... or at least some of the stuff I got...
Avatar 10:21am Rev. Turnip Druid:

hell, pay no attention to the grumpy old fart rabbit over here.
Avatar 10:24am batCattle:

old rabbits die hard
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am Richard Nixon:

Today they have a mastering plugin that just slams the compression up to 5000% and turns the audio into a big square fuzzy turd. But that's OK cuz its really, really LOUD and really, really LOUD is good, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am tim from champaign:

I really want to trade in my Really Red cds for Really Red LPs. What a great band!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am G:

One day "I remember facebook" will be an "oldtimer" marker. Remember friendster? Before myspace? Friendster is now big in Indonesia and the Philippines. Seriously. Their corporate HQ is Kuala Lumpur.
Avatar 10:26am glenn:

hey, dennis rodman is big in north korea. sports.nationalpost.com...
Avatar 10:26am Rev. Turnip Druid:

A koala and a lemur walk into a bar...
Avatar 10:27am Rev. Turnip Druid:

honestly, I have no idea what I'm saying. Do carry on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27am Richard Nixon:

I can confirm this. I was at the bar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29am Richard Nixon:

Great sound on this 22 Beaches
Avatar 10:29am batCattle:

  10:30am ann:

Yes, loving this groovy 22 Beaches track!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30am Richard Nixon:

I wasn't gonna say anything but, yeah she did!
Avatar 10:32am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Some lemurs have all the luck. I've never understood it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am Faye:

isn't that 22 Beaches track fantastic, unfortunately all their releases are just stray tracks on cassette comps
Avatar 10:33am glenn:

well, richard, not to be rude, but your crowning achievement was carrying louis armstrong's bag of weed through customs for him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am Richard Nixon:

@Glenn, not rude at all! Thank you for the acknowledgement. Others would say that I had no crowning achievements at all
Swag For Life Member 10:37am 12539:

Wouldn't it be great if some DJ put together a bunch of stray tracks from cassette comps?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am Richard Nixon:

I've got a cassette from WAIF (Cincinnati) circa 1982 that has a track I have never been able to identify and it drives me nuts. And it gets cut off. Love the freakin' song. It's my Rose Bud.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am Faye:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am Stevel:

Foot tapping as I knock down a reasonably ugly to-do list.

I love great radio!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45am Faye:

thanks Stevel!
Avatar 10:48am Cheri Pi:

Damn I missed Really Red :(
Avatar 10:51am Chris from DC:

Thanks, Faye, this is the only thing getting me through work at the moment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am DCE:

which BS member sang this originally? Richie?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56am DCE:

or was it combination of Neil and somebody else? I'm picturing all kinds of different things
Avatar 11:00am glenn:

sounds like richie furay and stills to me.
Avatar 11:02am hamburger:

nice "noice"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04am kim (germland):

the mighty feeble comp. is really outstanding
Avatar 11:04am batCattle:

roight roight
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04am DCE:

@glenn, I think you're right on that, but I think there's also a solo Neil performance of it, and I'm hearing them both in my head simultaneously
Avatar 11:05am glenn:

he wrote it, and has performed it in concerts many times.
Avatar 11:11am glenn:

regarding an earlier topic, if they could somehow manufacture a turntable with a repeat a-b function, i would snap it up in a second. it makes learning guitar parts much easier.
Avatar 11:13am Rev. Turnip Druid:

I want a radio on my FACE.
That would be awesome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am Nate K:

What up Faye? King Khan has something to do with these dudes, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am Stevel:

Yes. More Black Jaspers info!
Avatar 11:15am TV's WFMU Listener 8442:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am Faye:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am Mike East:

aha! I think liz berg maybe played the Sun Araw cut from this on Monday...my question of what the Spacemen3 track was went unanswered. Thanks, Faye!
Avatar 11:27am Jennique:

Doesn't Charles Osgood from CBS News Sunday Morning always say, "And later I'll see you on the radio"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am Faye:

sure Mike! glad it came around after all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am Mike East:

funny Jennique - I heard Charles Osgood on the radio last night advertising eyeglasses.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am Mike East:

did anyone else think this was a U2 cover when it started?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am nickybones:

@Mike East...yes!

Great pick with "That's Just Fine." One of my favorites.

Charley or is it Charlie is my favorite blues musician....ever!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am Faye:

oh maybe I'm thinking of Glen Jones??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

"That's Just Fine" is from the very honestly titled "Taking Drugs to Make Music to Take Drugs To."
Avatar 11:52am MenfussMike:

the song is actually called HANG IT ON THE WALL from the box set Sreaming and Hollerin' The Blues. Fahey released it about 10 years ago.
