Avatar 12:03pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Good afternoon sir...
Avatar 12:06pm Duane:

Hello Jan, DCE
Avatar 12:06pm Jshatan:

Yo. Great Willie Hutch song!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm Caryn:

Nice Hutch!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Mike East:

Willie Hutch! He did Foxy Brown, right?
Avatar 12:07pm steve:

Avatar 12:09pm pierre:

Bonsoir Duane and proud Duaniacs !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Caryn:

Avatar 12:11pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Some title!
Avatar 12:12pm kata:

howdy all !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm Caryn:

If only there was a "like" button for just the song title...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm fleep:

Surfacing! Hey Duane, humans
Avatar 12:13pm Duane:

Hello kata, caryn, pierre & steve!! Happy hump day..fleep too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm Mike East:

haven't seen The Mack, Jshatan. worth a rent?
Avatar 12:14pm Duane:

Mike East: THe MAck just maight be my favorite movie of all time..I can quote left to right front to back!
Avatar 12:16pm hamburger:

Oh Dayum. OD on funkay-ness
Avatar 12:16pm Jshatan:

I have the soundtrack but I'm somewhat stunned to say that I've never seen The Mack - it's a lacuna in both my Blaxploitation and Richard Pryor experiences. Duane's recommendation is high enough, though! Going to Netflix now...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm tim from champaign:

Hey all!

There was discussion last week about Nicky Sciano's podcast. I listened to it and it rules! That dude is so cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Mike East:

that settles it then, Duane. I may need to go out and buy the soundtrack after viewing, the same as I did the day after watching Foxy Brown.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Mike East:

not available streaming, Jshatan...it'll cost a dvd.
Avatar 12:18pm Duane:

Nicky Siano is the man Tim. Very, Very nice guy as well. He's a NYC treasure, really.
Mike East: Yeah, you're DNA will alter after that double feature
Avatar 12:18pm Cheri Pi:

hey y'all!
Avatar 12:18pm steve:

thats great Tim, i believe i gave you the rec. i fully agree that he rules. he has a gig in nyc planned some time soon, which im excited about.

Good morning, guys!
Avatar 12:23pm Duane:

Morning Eli!!
Avatar 12:24pm kata:

What's the deal with Funkcommunity Duane ? Was that a single ? Do they have albums ? Loved it..
Avatar 12:28pm Jay/London:

good afternoon all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Caryn:

I was half expecting Duane to go "Funkcommunity? Oh, that's just what our family call ourselves when we sing together during the holidays." But nice to learn about them.
Avatar 12:37pm Duane:

Hi Jay..nice to have ya here!
Avatar 12:38pm Rev. Turnip Druid (xBSI):

still waiting on my delivery of curry-gluten-infused rum.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm tim from champaign:

Man, I got to get out of the sticks, I mean cornfields. Duane is having a meet up. Wish I could be there.

Avatar 12:40pm Duane:

Yesir Tim :)
Avatar 12:41pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

A talented family those Harriotts
  12:41pm david:

tim, I've wondered that, too? I heard once that Joe and Derrick Harriott were related. is our beloved Duane in there too?
Avatar 12:42pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Yes, Derrick is Duane's uncle
Avatar 12:42pm Duane:

Joe is my Great uncle as well, David
Avatar 12:43pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Maybe this show should be based around great song titles...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Ike:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm DCE:

(my co-workers may frown upon this one)
Avatar 12:44pm Eli:

That's one choice of a lyric
Avatar 12:44pm Jay/London:

cool set Duane
Avatar 12:44pm SueAdynamo:

Such a sweet-sounding song but there is just something off about it.
  12:44pm Neg-guh-tor:

Whoa, what a sweet song Boris made?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Caryn:

@DCE: as long as you don't start singing along, I think you'll be ok
  12:45pm r i s k y:

Go Duane! Loving the show
  12:46pm Neg-guh-tor:

Wonder why that Gardiner song wasn't a radio hit?
Avatar 12:46pm Duane:

It was a huuge hit in Jamaica..Big Youth did it too..
Avatar 12:46pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Ok, as long as it's just one, isolated, unintelligible n-word.
  12:46pm david:

never heard boris' version of this. only Big Youth's. not sure which i prefer....
Avatar 12:46pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Er, oh...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Caryn:

It's fun, this week I finally stumbled upon a soul record I had been looking for for years. The reason I couldn't find it? Turns out I had been looking under the wrong name. D'oh!
Avatar 12:46pm Jay/London:

think i like the cramps version better .. well that’s just me
Avatar 12:47pm Jshatan:

Derrick - always swinging. And this Boris Gardiner - it's been *decades* since I heard this. @DCE - can you play "Don't Call Me Nigger, Whitey" by Sly at work?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm DCE:

mmmm....might be frowned upon as well, they don't like controversy here
Avatar 12:52pm kata:

shit I missed the break, I'm a bad bad listener !
Avatar 12:52pm Duane:

what record Caryn?
Avatar 12:54pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Years ago I recall either Ken, I think, calling it a point of pride that WFMU will periodically strain relations with your co-workers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Caryn:

@Duane: "My Thing" by Tuomo. Stumbled upon it at the library and took it out for the hell of it. Thought the cover rang a bell. Then played it and realised: "Oh damn, this is it!"
Avatar 12:56pm Duane:

Pete from Boston: That's 100% true... Ken nails it again
Avatar 12:56pm pierre:

I need to go with a "oulala !" here…
Avatar 1:03pm pierre:

I should think before throwing "oulalas" like that, this T. Life deserve one as well…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Caryn:

Once again the need to hand out multiple stars ended up in an episode star. After just one hour!
Avatar 1:08pm pierre:

@ Caryn : I feel what you're going through with this beserk "starring" bonanza…
  1:09pm leo:

Kevin Ayers RIP

Avatar 1:10pm Eli:

This is DOPE
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm Caryn:

@pierre: well, if only Duane would play worse music... Nah, that's not a solution. :)
Avatar 1:12pm pierre:

yeah Duane, do you feel any shame making us favoriting every tunes you're playing ?
Avatar 1:13pm Duane:

Who what I confess my shame to now? I've officially kicked shame from my game..yes RIP to Kevin Ayers
Avatar 1:15pm pierre:

"kicked shame out of my game" — perfect.
If you don't mind i'll quote you from time to time, you're wise.

And yes, no, I don't want the favoriting to end ^^
  1:23pm paula pc:

wow thanks Duane..."It begins with a blessing, and it ends with a curse..."
  1:24pm muhrvis:

Greetings from Corvallis, OR.

Cool Kevin Ayers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm Fuzzy:

Well, this Kevin Ayers certainly woke me up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm Planet Tyler:

<3 Gorky's - was wondering when they would played in tribute (and any song would have done, not just "Kevin Ayers :)
Avatar 1:38pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Hello to Corvallis OR!
Avatar 1:40pm Eli:

Such a good show, D!
Avatar 1:41pm Duane:

Thanx Eli

Avatar 2:02pm kata:

Found out Prince is playing Montreaux this year (July), and I'm actually gonna be in Switzerland at that time.. Not sure if I'll go to the show (for several reasons) but perhaps I can stalk him around town !!
Avatar 2:03pm pierre:

@ kata : stalking Prince seems pretty hard, non ?
Avatar 2:04pm kata:

the reasons being: it's very expensive, I saw him about a year ago and it was kind of a let-down, and I fear he will play his "jazz" set..
  2:04pm robyn:

i made ittttttt
Avatar 2:05pm kata:

@Pierre -- I'm thinking he'd be easy to spot or 'sense' at a "Jazz" festival but I've never been to Montreaux so maybe I'm wrong..
Avatar 2:06pm Duane:

Hi Robyn :)
kata: I feel ya on that..Montreaux might be the wrong atmosphere to see him..however, you never know with him..
  2:06pm Lulu:

I speak the language of this song, & it says, "Dance!"
Avatar 2:07pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Just go hang out in front of the local Jehovahs Witnesses... Sorry, couldn't help myself,
Avatar 2:08pm Duane:

Jan, that's Not a bad tip actually!
  2:08pm paula pc:

the guy was so maligned at this point ("Break My Stride"), but you gotta look at the synth use...have a huge soft spot for this whole category (EBN-OZN, Bobby Orlando, et al)...and they became such huge session/production forces...ok I stop now
Avatar 2:10pm Cheri Pi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm robyn:

oh man. kevin ayers passed huh. these musical greats need to stop passing...there's no rush!!
Avatar 2:11pm kata:

omg I love this Deiter skit ! I used to watch it over and over as a youngin'
Avatar 2:11pm slugluv1313:

SPROCKETS!!!!!!!!!!!! DIETER!!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Caryn:

Dis is the time on Sprockets wen we danz!
Avatar 2:12pm pierre:

@ kata : if you do it, i'll love to have your full report ^^
Avatar 2:15pm steve:

Duane is this not Loud E?
Avatar 2:16pm Duane:

Yeah it's Load E...sorry typo
Avatar 2:16pm kata:

Jan -- ha! I wonder if Switzerland has the JW's. I kinda doubt it. :)
Avatar 2:17pm Jshatan:

I missed Sprockets! Do I have to touch somebody's monkey?
  2:17pm Lulu:

Jeeze, these songs are so great! I wish this were playing at an actual dance party, instead of being in computer limbo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm Caryn:

That's easy, Lulu. Just have a dance party and play the show from the archives.
Avatar 2:20pm bennett4senate:

big up Duane! thanks for having Sinkane on the other week, good stuff
Avatar 2:20pm Eli:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm Caryn:

And kata, I can pretty much guarantee that Switzerland has JWs. And Mormons.
Avatar 2:22pm steve:

Duane i could be wrong but if im not mistaken that same edit was on his Palaza Break EP with the title "Sex E?", guess it could be a subtly different edit tho
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm northguineahills:

I'm assuming that's not the Japanese Ruins.
Avatar 2:24pm Duane:

Thanks bennett. The pleasure was all mine. They were sick!
Eli: Club Photocall in effect!

steve: Yeah, it's a different mix. I played a party with him years ago, and he gave me this one..he doesn't really like anyone to play that version out at all (i love it tho), so the titles kinda tricked out
Avatar 2:24pm Duane:

ngh: No..although that'd be incredible to hear the Japanese Ruins cover the italo Ruins
Avatar 2:24pm steve:

thats so cool. love Loud E
Avatar 2:24pm kata:

you're right Caryn, I forgot about that whole watchtower thing, gives me the willies..
  2:28pm paula pc:

what a deep show today...THANKS Duane!!
Avatar 2:30pm Duane:

thank you paula
Avatar 2:31pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

There's a Jehovahs Witnesses temple(?) down the street from me. The congregation(?) seems to be made up of elderly Dominican and PR ladies. After services(?) They sit out in the park and gossip in Spanish holding their Watch Tower pamphlets, but not handing them out...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm northguineahills:

Well, if Derek Bailey can do d&b, a Japanese noise band can do italo disco. Just look at Yamataka Eye's forays into dance music.
Avatar 2:33pm Duane:

I agree ngh. I'd love to hear the results
  2:35pm sven Bjornsson:

Hallo- for please for you to play som ABBA or Svensk Psychedelia... thanks!
Avatar 2:39pm Jshatan:

BTW, here's a cool article: www.grantland.com...
  2:43pm fxo:

Avatar 2:49pm Duane:

Alright fxo!!! Yeah, that;s a stunner for sure!
  2:50pm Neg-guh-tor:

You rule, Duane! Nice show.
Avatar 2:51pm slugluv1313:

Avatar 2:53pm kata:

Cat Power stole this Outsiders guitar phrasing verbatim
Avatar 2:54pm kata:

oh no, not Cat Power, but Scout Niblett. One of those.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm Mike East:

thanks for that, Jshatan. good lunch eating reading.
Avatar 2:55pm Duane:

Thanx everyone! Have a great week!
Avatar 2:55pm Jan Audun Uretsky:
