Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Thanks for listening to this Valentine's Edition of The Dusty Show. As is often the case, I was not able to realize this show as fully as I'd hoped. I wish I had a few more interviews and a little more music. As it was, I got rushed and had to hurry through it. That said, I hope you enjoyed the interviews and the different ways people were viewing Valentine's Day in 2013.

Other than that ... hello! Thanks for still listening to this little radio program. I'm glad you do. I still enjoy putting them together and being a part of FMU. If you'd like to get in touch, email me at:

dusty@wfmu.org. ----- I'm always happy to hear from you.

Also, you can now find me on Twitter (Clay Pigeon WFMU) and Facebook (Clay Pigeon). Visit me there and check in. Never thought I'd go the social media route, but these days it's almost inevitable. We'll make it fun, right?

Marathon is just two weeks away. YIKES! I am sooooo not ready. I have assembled the songs for Clay's Classics V. Now I can start putting that all tgether. It's a tall order. Lots of great songs, though, I must say. And I'm figuring out some kind of bonus marathon extra, too. Pledge if you can! You are needed.

Fun in the crates this weekend. Some good finds for the next Dusty. Maybe I'll do it live with Fabio? We'll see. Until then ... I really appreciate your support and listenership. You are a good bunch of people. Mean it!

Always remember ....

So, did "peace" fly out the window, just because it's Valentine's Day?!! ;)
Avatar 6:11pm kat330:

Who took the photo of you with Dan, Matt?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Clay for naming these songs as Pilot - always heard them but couldn't identify who did them. "Love Is" is an amazing pop song.
Avatar 6:12pm Clay Pigeon:

The Shoes (I think) are from Rockford. Or maybe Zion. So many good Illinois Power Pop bands, including Off Broadway (Atlantic Records). Evan Davies and I are going to do a Power Pop Duel after Marathon on his program!
Avatar 6:13pm chocolate monk:

sounds like a weeping wound on Randy Newmans ass.
Avatar 6:13pm kat330:

You probably didn't see it, but on Mardi Gras I posted several pics from our NOLA visit in 2007. There was a photo of Philo and me where clearly the camera had been drinking. A dude on the street asked US if he could take our photo w/our camera, we didn't ask him. :)
Avatar 6:13pm northguineahills:

...That said, I did dinner and Matmos (tix I won via Brian Turner, which fits my budget) Monday w/ my gf since she has a deadline tomorrow. I never used the VD word, just another night our, why should one day be more special then any other day if you treat each one special. At least, that's how I live life. Man, I sound like I should start listening to Phish and wear patrouille. I just don't tell my family, friends, and loved ones my mantra.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm Matt from Springfield:

The Shoes - EFD's a fan, I believe!

@kat: One of the servers behind the bar at the spacebar! Dan would remember which specific one, it's a local haunt for him.

Flannery O'Connor as well.
Avatar 6:15pm kat330:

@Night Al: [back to the Fabio list thread] So the Space Station is totally safe "they" think?
Avatar 6:15pm Clay Pigeon:

Alan Parsons. Nice! I love the song, "Time."

Hello Night Al And N. Guinea
Avatar 6:17pm Clay Pigeon:

This show suffers a bit from rushed production. Busy week. I did manage to get on Facebook and Twitter, though!
Avatar 6:18pm kata:

woah ! Clay your wife met you through the Dusty show ? holy moly ! Did you interview her on the street ? Or was she a comment board junkie like us ? ;)
  6:18pm Night Al:

yes Clay...'Time' and 'Old and Wise'...so many hits from them. I've set their stage up but never sat down and enjoyed the music. Bought a ticket tonight..$56.50 in the back of Ruth Eckerd Hall.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19pm Matt from Springfield:

You know, a glass that's not overflowing is always a little empty ;)

My cup runneth over -- with champagne.
Avatar 6:20pm northguineahills:

Ok, gotta leave, Thanks Clay, the Dusty show is somehow making my clean studio dusty, or I might have something in my eye. Salud!
Avatar 6:20pm dale:

we went snowmobiling in Stewart Forest and DEC busted us for not having helmets. I didn't realize they were law, and we had them back in the truck but the agent didn't care and ticketed us. took the wind out of our sails
  6:20pm Night Al:

@kat330 my feed again... On Friday, when asteroid 2012 DA14 approaches within 17,200 miles of Earth, it will be over Sumatra, Indonesia at its closest point while zipping by the planet. That's just one-thirteenth the average distance from Earth to the moon. At its closest approach on Friday at 2:24 p.m. EST, the asteroid will be 5,000 miles closer to Earth than the ring of GPS, weather and communications satellites in orbit around the planet. When the asteroid flies by Earth, the planet's gravity will force the asteroid into a new orbit that won't bring it this close to the Earth for years to come. Scientists think the "Tunguska Event" over Siberia in 1908 was caused by a 100-foot asteroid. This space rock exploded in midair, leveling trees across 825 square miles in the region. If 2012 DA14 did enter Earth's atmosphere, it probably would react similarly — exploding above the ground and causing destruction over a wide area.
Avatar 6:21pm Clay Pigeon:

Night North Guines. Thanks for stopping by.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm Matt from Springfield:

W00t! Tommy James!
Avatar 6:21pm dale:

will the asteroid be visible to the nekkid eye?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm Matt from Springfield:

Have a good night NGH!
  6:22pm Nate:

Thx for the Tommy James! Adding to the jukebox now!
Avatar 6:22pm kat330:

Sorry, NA, I saw that detailed info over on Fabio's list -- just wondered if anyone had cited the Space Station specifically. But 'sokay, you've gone above and beyond already. Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm Matt from Springfield:

@kat: Yum, champagne is always beautiful to drink up!
I'm a huge fan of bubblies, I know the gamut from fine expensive ones to cheap affordable ones for frequent drinkage.
Avatar 6:24pm kat330:

@Matt: One guess on which end of the spectrum I'm partaking! Yep, Korbel on a big discount dingus. Never had the opportunity to try the high-end bubbly.
  6:26pm moose:

single, cinnamon whiskey, puttering around the apt, hoping loud neighbor across the hall doesn't get lucky tonight
Avatar 6:27pm Philo Gristle:

Ken Nordine! I see colors!
Avatar 6:28pm Timbrocks:

Happy V-Day everyone. Have a great show, Clay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm Matt from Springfield:

@kat: If you like your bubbly BRUT, Spanish champagnes (cava) is excellent, and priced about the same as Korbel (which I consider too sweet). Freshen Net (Freixenet) is the legendary black bottle of that, and there's a few other brands priced comparably at my wine store, but prob. scarce in Middle America.
Avatar 6:28pm Clay Pigeon:

Maximum Cupidity, Timb! Thanks for checking in.
Avatar 6:28pm kat330:

Clay, we're delaying the special meal I'm preparing tonight just to hear your fine show. :)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm Matt from Springfield:

Good night, Timbrocks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm Matt from Springfield:

"Maximum Cupidity" :D
Avatar 6:29pm Clay Pigeon:

That's so nice of you kat! :>)
Avatar 6:31pm kat330:

@Matt: Yes, very brut, but the Korbel brut works for me (um, I add a bit of ice -- yes, heresy I know). I like it as well or better than Freixenet, which I've had several times over the years. I've had a cava from time to time when there's a sale.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm fleep:

The asteroid will not be visible to the eye, naked or seductively dressed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32pm Matt from Springfield:

It's okay to have younger wives, Clay and Fab--you have us to "share your life experiences with", on the radio!
Avatar 6:32pm Clay Pigeon:

Laphroiag! Immediately.
Avatar 6:32pm kat330:

Thanks, fleep. I didn't imagine so, but when I heard about lower than satellite orbit, I thought immediately of the Space Station.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm Matt from Springfield:

@kat: Good to know you keep an eye out for cavas! Marques de Monstroso, or something like it seems to be the other major Spanish import. They have a rosé version, too!

@Clay: Laphroaig! You like your Scotch *smoky*!
Avatar 6:35pm kat330:

@Matt: And this Korbel Brut we can buy locally when there's a big discount is $8 a bottle. It's a fair bubble for the buck.
Avatar 6:35pm Clay Pigeon:

Peaty, Matt.
Avatar 6:35pm other david:

Tuning in a bit late, but lovely warm interviews. Always a pleasure to hear you, Clay.

Howdy all.
Avatar 6:36pm Clay Pigeon:

Other David! HVD! Glad you're there.
Avatar 6:36pm kat330:

I dub thee Sommelier Matt!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm Matt from Springfield:

Howdy OD!
Glad you chose to spend the tail end of Valentine's Day with us!
Avatar 6:36pm kat330:

Hi, OD!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm fleep:

@Matt Our favorite sparkly is Sofia, as in Sofia Coppola, it's local product and runs around $12, dunno what distributors handle it.
  6:37pm seang:

let's get drunk and screw
  6:37pm moose:

since i was dumped 2 years ago i listen to lots more wfmu which she didn't approve of since listening to wfmu doesn't make me money. now i can also wear ugly shoes again.
I LOVE SOFIA, in the cans
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm Matt from Springfield:

@kat: I am *such* the sommelier too! The one people ask! :)

@Clay: Islay peaty!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm fleep:

Howdy Clay, Happy Every Day.
Avatar 6:38pm other david:

@Matt: Well I couldn't be with nicer folks :)
Avatar 6:38pm kat330:

And I can speak from 13 years of wonderful marriage experience, younger husbands are also more than OK. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm fleep:

@kat330 Yes, we are.
Avatar 6:39pm Clay Pigeon:

Hello Fleep and Moose!
Avatar 6:39pm kat330:

@OD: A Valentine for you:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm Matt from Springfield:

@fleep: Francis Ford Coppola's wineries I'm sure. Costco tends to have a variety of Coppola bottles, have to see if that's there as well.

@moose: I lift my poor, ugly shoes to you in salute!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm Matt from Springfield:

@fleep: Ah, are you a younger husband? By a little, or a lot?
Avatar 6:40pm other david:

@kat: aw, shucks <3
Avatar 6:40pm kat330:

I detest that word "cougar." I prefer wildKat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm Matt from Springfield:

@kat: Careful, treading into "Honey Water" territory here! ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm fleep:

@Matt A slim margin of around 18 months, no cradle robbing here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm Matt from Springfield:

@Clay: Play Supertramp "Dreamer" for us Aries!!
Avatar 6:43pm Clay Pigeon:

Aries ... a strong sign. It's not easy being a Pisces.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:43pm Matt from Springfield:

@fleep: Eh, that's a school grade apart :)
Avatar 6:43pm kat330:

Arrrghhh, fleep, "cradle robbing" is rarely said when it's the reverse difference in age. Philo is, um, your mentioned margin younger +, and not in months. No cradling involved. ;)
Avatar 6:45pm Timbrocks:

There's a lot of sadness out there. Love is something that everyone wants to badly but seems so hard to find. Those of you out there who have it, be sure to cherish and it celebrate today. Those of you who don't, I hope that you find what you are looking for.
Avatar 6:45pm kat330:

Matt & Kat -- mouthy Aries both. :)
Avatar 6:45pm Clay Pigeon:

Nice sentiments, Timb. You're an old softy.
6:46pm Steve on the Car Phone:

I just tuned in. Please tell me that he isn't doing more interviews in Manhattan. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE TRY SOME PLACE ELSE CLAY!
Avatar 6:46pm dale:

rod mckuen is the bestestest! i have an anthoony newley album called 'for you' that is downright pornographic
Avatar 6:46pm Timbrocks:

Thanks Clay. Indeed I am.
  6:47pm drewo:

Happy VD! Thanks Clay for the love you put into your radio show each week.
Avatar 6:47pm Timbrocks:

That's my message of peace and love to your listeners.
Avatar 6:47pm kat330:

@TImbrocks: Very fine words and thought. I imagine most of us in a happy love space at this time in our life also recall the extreme desolation without love for periods. Believe me, I never want to take it for granted and cherish it wholeheartedly.
Avatar 6:47pm dale:

love the tape turn over music is sublime. what is it clay?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm Matt from Springfield:

@kat: But proud of it, nonetheless! :)
  6:48pm seang:

love is a disease
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48pm Matt from Springfield:

@Timb: Great MOPAL!
Avatar 6:48pm Clay Pigeon:

Dale, love Anthony Newley! The tape turn music is Cy Coleman - Reverie in Topaz, from an LP called The Ages of Rock on MGM.
Avatar 6:49pm other david:

I think there's a lot of truth in the old clichés about needing to love yourself, or at least, not hate yourself, if you're ever going to be open to finding someone.

Also, from experience, don't dwell on the past so much, or life will pass you by.

Also, chocolate cures all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm fleep:

@kat330 I thought the idiom worked both ways, but it terms of gaps, yours sounds ... really exciting. There, I said it.
6:50pm Steve on the Car Phone:

Does the extent by which our culture has been corrupted by consumerism bum anybody out?
Avatar 6:51pm Timbrocks:

Thanks Matt!
Avatar 6:51pm kat330:

@fleep: Heh! I wish I could read between the ellipses. ;) It's been a revelation while still an impossibly unique situation.
  6:51pm Nate:

Aw yes CRÜE!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm Matt from Springfield:

Clay is now a Twitter-Flitterer!
I've avoided the Twitterverse thus far, but increasingly I think of starting an account, if only to logon and look at all these non-public tweets.
Avatar 6:53pm chocolate monk:

Clay, what was your TYPE back in your Deloris Telescope days?? is there a 'Hammer Of The Gods' book to be written?
6:53pm Steve on the Car Phone:

There will be love-making tonight!
Avatar 6:53pm Clay Pigeon:

Good question, Steve. Thanks for pulling over to the curb and writing.
Avatar 6:53pm dale:

never ventured onto twitter, will probably ditch my linked in profile, and only stay on fb for the scrabble
  6:54pm seang:

6:54pm Steve on the Car Phone:

And I love her .... by The Beatles ----> That's a love song for the ages, my brother.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm Matt from Springfield:

@OD: "Why would anyone like me? *I* don't like me."
Until I realized that, I didn't even realize not loving yourself could be a problem. It's something I work on specifically now.
Avatar 6:54pm Clay Pigeon:

Monk. No book. No ...
Avatar 6:54pm kat330:

@OD: Even more wise words -- you FS folk are just the best! Really that is such a cliché but 100% true about loving oneself first before anyone else can love you. Too many people flit from one relationship to the next failure, never giving the alone time that's needed to know and love themselves.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm Matt from Springfield:

@dale: LinkedIn has many personal details, and has been vulnerable to being hacked lately--may just be a good idea to ditch that. (YMMV)
6:55pm Joe C. in JC (formerly Steve on the Car Phone):

I'm glad my heart isn't broken right now. That sucks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:56pm Matt from Springfield:

@Steve: Beautiful, romantic acoustic song by The Beatles! Agree!

But, do us all a favor: save the love making till you *get out* of the car! Or at least safely parked ;D
Avatar 6:56pm Timbrocks:

Thanks also Kat!
Avatar 6:56pm Clay Pigeon:

Andy's here. Better pack it up. Thanks for being here everybody and I hope you have a memorable and meaningful Valentine's Day 2013. Peace ... love ... always remember. Clay
