Avatar 12:14pm Jennique:

Avatar 12:15pm Duane:

Avatar 12:16pm glenn:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm tim from champaign:

This is whats up - I'm trading in a bunch of rekkids this weekend and the first jam I'm gonna pick out is the Lewis Connection LP. I can't wait to get my grubby hands on it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Mike East:

thanks, glenn!
Avatar 12:27pm Cheri Pi:

Avatar 12:29pm kata:

this is a hot beatles cover !
Avatar 12:29pm Duane:

tfc: That record's amazing..great choice!
Hi Cheri Pi!! Glad to have ya
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm DCE:

this Glass Harp track is killer!
Avatar 12:32pm pierre:

I (usually) don't like this song
Avatar 12:32pm kat330:

OK, back and slurping lentil soup now! Very interesting Rigby here.
  12:33pm Derwood:

Phil Keaggy! Nice, Duane. Glass Harp ... Youngstown; OH
Avatar 12:34pm kat330:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Caryn:

@kat: yum! Just starting my cabbage soup prep now.
Avatar 12:36pm kat330:

Yeah, the snowfall clinched the soup choice for me. :)
Avatar 12:39pm kat330:

I haven't done it in ages, but I remember making a savory cabbage soup with tahini back in the day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm DCE:

that doesn't sound right to me, kat, but I could probably be convinced
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm dale:

digging this tartaglia. the 'in my life' cd that george martin put out has a similar version
Avatar 12:43pm kat330:

@DCE: Ya know what, it doesn't to me in retrospect, but I know we dug it. It was probably a recipe by Adele Davis or something. I also recall making big batches of soy beans with lecithin. Health food daze back in Vermont.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Caryn:

@HW: having never actually eaten tahini, don't know what that would be like, but sounds interesting. I'm using my mom's recipe. Finally able to do it with the correct meat, since I found where the local store hides the minced chicken.
Avatar 12:45pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Pulp! I was just thinking about them today as scrolled past their albums in my iTunes. This is Hardcore is so underrated...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Caryn:

Yay, Pulp!
Avatar 12:46pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

This is Hardcore as in the entire album...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm DCE:

you've had tahini if you've had hummus, and I know you've had hummus! am i right?
Avatar 12:46pm kat330:

@Caryn: You missed the, um, changing of the guards at our noon hour. ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Caryn:

@DCE: nope, never had hummus. Hey, I'm living in the middle of nowhere, where the grocery store basically went nuts at the end of last year when they finally got some condensed milk on sale.
Avatar 12:47pm kata:

tahini is a precious, delicious thing..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Caryn:

@kat: oops! Sorry, food prep on the brain.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm DCE:

Avatar 12:50pm kat330:

@Caryn: We're even now? :)
  12:51pm Minnie Apollis:

I passed on an Apollonia 6 LP at the flea last weekend, but I did get an LP by Apollo on Motown, featuring Kerry Gordy. Really bad/good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Caryn:

@kat: heh, sure :)
Avatar 12:53pm Duane:

That Apollo album is great..but the Appolonia 6 album is so good. Really awesome stuff on there..including the incredibly pervy "Happy Birthday Mr. Christian"
Avatar 12:54pm Cheri Pi:

Joey Stec reminds me a little bit of Parliament's Osmium sound.
Avatar 12:54pm kat330:

@Duane: Is it a Christmas song?
Avatar 12:55pm Duane:

@kat330..oh no it isn't :) I'll play it later
Avatar 12:55pm Denise in DC:

I don't generally expect to hear you play Bacharach, Duane.

Not that I'm complaining.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm nickybones:

Just found this Bacharach 8-track (!) in an old suitcase of my dad's from his Navy days. Quite rad.
Avatar 12:56pm kat330:

Avatar 12:56pm Jennique:

Hey, is there's a trombone in there? Nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Caryn:

This test lacks some zombies. Or pancakes.
Avatar 12:59pm kat330:

Post-test style!
Avatar 1:01pm kat330:

Oh, I love this Honeysuckle Rose! I picked it out of my mom's huge songbooks to sing as a kid.
Avatar 1:01pm kata:

"cabbage" was a sexual innuendo in the early bluegrass days.
Avatar 1:02pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

I was lucky to see Anita O'Day late in her life in a small club...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Caryn:

Half an hour and half a cabbage done. In a non-innuendo way.
Avatar 1:03pm kat330:

@kata: And pierre, et al, would probably point out mon petit choux as an endearment.
Avatar 1:04pm kat330:

@Jan: O Lucky Man, indeed!
Avatar 1:05pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

it was the mid 90s I think...
Avatar 1:06pm pierre:

well "chou" in french, has a very cute connotation, it's more a (sort of cheezy) nickname (if i'm getting the topic right…)
Avatar 1:07pm kat330:

ICOCBW, but I have a vague memory of De Niro's wife singing "Honeysuckle Rose" in some film. Caryn .... ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Caryn:

@kat: that would be Liza Minnelli in "New York, New York"
Avatar 1:09pm kat330:

@pierre: Yes, I think it's used a lot by English-speaking folk as an affectation to seem continental. Or maybe just in old films.
Avatar 1:09pm pierre:

love this Donald Byrd !
Avatar 1:10pm kat330:

@Caryn: Hm, I'm still thinking .... some noir film maybe. Gonna do a bit of googling....
Avatar 1:11pm Cheri Pi:

In French class we called our friends "mon petit chou-fleur"
Avatar 1:12pm kat330:

Oh, RIGHT! I thought you were saying Minelli did the song. Right film, but Diahnne Abbott sang it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Caryn:

DeNiro's real-life wife Diahnne Abott, also sang it in "New York, New York"
Avatar 1:13pm kat330:

Jinx! I'll take a Greyhound. :) Your pref?
Avatar 1:15pm steve:

hello Duane. just tuning in
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm Caryn:

@kat: a cherry coke will do :)
Avatar 1:17pm Duane:

Hey Steve!!
Avatar 1:18pm Jennique:

Lovin' this Think Twice groove.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Caryn:

The Donald Byrds were really good. As is "Think Twice", of course.
Avatar 1:21pm kat330:

@Cayrn: Reminds me of "The IT Crowd" ep we saw the other day about "Friendface" and Roy's fridge full of Cuke cans.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm Caryn:

@kat: heh!
Avatar 1:22pm kat330:

I'm really digging this Detroit Experiment version, too.
Avatar 1:24pm kata:

yay ! been too long since I heard Tribe..
Avatar 1:24pm kat330:

Don't I hear a snippet of Sir Duke??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Caryn:

Man, it's been ages since I last heard TCQ...
Avatar 1:25pm Jshatan:

Howdy all - joining late. This work thing...
Avatar 1:25pm Duane:

Avatar 1:26pm Duane:

Avatar 1:32pm pierre:

aww… that's cute Cheri Pi.
well you can also call a nice kid "chou"
it's a cabbage as well as a a pastry sort of cake thing like the "chou à la crème" www.gelpat.fr...
Avatar 1:33pm pierre:

i'm off you guys, have fun ! Be brilliant !
Avatar 1:34pm Jshatan:

Hey, Jan! Don't you know that brevity is the soul of wit - especially when it comes to user names.
Avatar 1:36pm kat330:

Our dear glenn posted this link first, but I think it bears repeating. Sexsmith's list of go-to love song for Valentine's Day is on the money for my money:

Avatar 1:45pm steve:

anyone else listening to the new Nicky Siano podcasts these days? i just discovered them a week ago and am so hooked.
  1:46pm nick:

Stop talking like everything you say is the most original thing anyone's ever heard. Just play the music and stop trying to be part of art that you are incapable of living up to. You talk like your in a bad hipster dream. Wake up and keep this shit moving. No one likes to hear your voice buy you
Avatar 1:46pm kat330:

The Prince pipeline delivers again!
Avatar 1:46pm kata:

yeah Prince tell em what to do !
Avatar 1:47pm Duane:

the nicky siano podcast is great!
Avatar 1:50pm kat330:

Um, broccoli -- yikes, so many typos today and a key-sticky keyboard -- need to do some duster spritzing. :,
  1:50pm Neg-guh-tor:

That is some sick underwater bass sound on the Bitch!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm Caryn:

@kat: great list by Sexsmith. I'd probably add in a few personal faves, but that's how it always goes.
Avatar 1:52pm Rev. Turnip Druid (ex BSI):

"vegetable rights & peace!"
- neil
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm tim from champaign:

I'd love to hear the Nicky Siano podcasts. Who else here has read Love Saves The Day? I loved that book. It made the 70s DJ scene so inspiring.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Caryn:

Nice work there, Rev!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm fleep:

@kat330 Wow, that was like gardening With James Joyce. Go, mango!
Avatar 1:56pm kata:

love this imperial moters ~
Avatar 1:56pm steve:

Tim - i did. read it a few years ago in preparation for my first trip to "The Loft". amazing book. you need to find one of the Nicky Siano episodes where he brings in his friends from back in the day to talk about the Gallery, so great.
Avatar 1:56pm Denise in DC:

Who is this "nick" asshole?
  1:56pm Grubbus:

Glad you made it thru the Zombie apocalypse!
"I wanna eat your brain"-umm good!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm Mike East:

I was JUST thinking about the Spinners (cuz a client's last name was Spinner)
Avatar 2:05pm Duane:

thank you kat330! happy lovers day to you as well
  2:09pm nick:

Lol. Good for you Dj. Denise your real pretty, perfect match for a miserable troll like me.
Avatar 2:10pm steve:

Spinner is a pretty awesome last name
Avatar 2:12pm glenn:

Avatar 2:14pm Duane:

I 've also heard that in the 70's porn world, a "Spinner" was what they called a petite female actress with incredible flexibilty..
Avatar 2:17pm steve:

lol... the more you know
Avatar 2:18pm Duane:

steve: HAHA
Avatar 2:20pm Droll:

I think "Run the Length of Your Wildness" qualifies as porn. Quite a shocking lyric, and really incredible arranging!
Avatar 2:23pm Duane:

Droll: true, true. Those arrangements wre done by John Cameron, who produced the Hot Chocolate records later
  2:24pm Rob C:

Run the Length of your Wildness! Wow! How have I gone my whole life without ever hearing this record?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm Caryn:

@Duane: oh man, that reminds me of the series "Action", where Wendy Ward talks about her friends: "I knew a working girl with no legs, made twenty-five hundred a night just sitting there. Spinning."
Avatar 2:25pm steve:

that one was a real spinner, for sure
Avatar 2:27pm Duane:

Caryn: aw man I think i made it through about 2 minutes of that . I really wanted to like it. Should i give it another shot? (no pun intended)
Avatar 2:27pm kata:

loving this set Duane !
Avatar 2:29pm Katya Oddio:

Same here -- Young-Holt Unlimited!
Avatar 2:30pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Yeah Duane, you're killin' it
Avatar 2:30pm Jennique:

I actually have a 7" of Young Holt Unlimited, Country Slicker Joe with Soulful Strut.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm Caryn:

@Duane: it's an acquired taste, and certainly takes a bit of getting used to, but I really like it.
Avatar 2:33pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Funny i listened to Renee Geyer- Money (That's What I Want) earlier today... I must of sensed this motif coming up.
Avatar 2:34pm Droll:

Jan, I listened to Easy Money by King Crimson yesterday. Something in the water?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm northguineahills:

I was wondering why I was hearing so much Donald Byrd on WFMU the last few days... :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm rsj:

Avatar 2:55pm Jshatan:

I listened to Easy Money by King Crimson on Monday! Something in the water, for sure.
Avatar 2:55pm Duane:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm northguineahills:

rsj: I thought that was St. Etienne as well....
  2:57pm CB:

Duane, you deserve a Grammy for mind-blowing DJ excellence every week, but *especially* this week. This is a show to end all shows.
Avatar 2:57pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

I'm such a St. Etienne nerd, that sorta knew it wasn't, but I wasn't completely sure...
Avatar 2:58pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Another great show almost in the books Duane, thanks so much!
Avatar 3:00pm steve:

damn Duane, rockin show as always

This is a lovely way to finish the show! Happy early Valentine's Day, Duane!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm northguineahills:

Jan, I try to hiccup later this evening.

Actually, the Shoestrings vocalist sounded like the Cranes vocalist but w/ less helium.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm Ike:

Action was one of the most wicked things to ever air on network TV. Dark biting comedy. But then comedy is very subjective so your mileage may vary. Its satire of Hollywood was really surprising (to me anyway) when it first aired.
