Favoriting Seven Second Delay with Ken and Andy: Playlist from December 19, 2012 Favoriting

The program formerly known as Dinner at Andy's, The Fuzzy Glove Hour, Whores, and The Happiness Hut. Ken and Andy, also known as The Enema Boys, further lower WFMU's already abysmal standards on a weekly basis. Stunt radio which subjects the radio audience to concepts and topics which mature adults should not have to endure. Find the fatal flaw. (Visit homepage.)

Listener comments!

  6:03pm
the glowing one:

FIRST!
  6:03pm
kat330:

Hey, all!
  6:03pm
Matt from Springfield:

Perfect Detention Forever!
Everybody clap!
  6:03pm
G:

Fired from UCB. The ignominy!
  6:04pm
Mike East:

working, and waiting for my dinner to be delivered
  6:04pm
Robert:

You're stealing a premise that's years old from Twitter?
  6:04pm
kat330:

Long time, no comment. We just had to be on the playlist before the end of the world
  6:04pm
Carmichael:

What I'm doing right now: I'm editing contract terms and conditions, drinking a soda and staring out the window at a parking lot full of roaming high school kids.
  6:04pm
Matt from Springfield:

Bull! You broke the UCB's strict "NO exorcisms" policy! You is banned!
  6:04pm
G:

Have him get on that waiting list for that new personality transplant
  6:05pm
Philo Gristle:

Eating, thus not typing. Hello!
  6:06pm
kat330:

Hey, Mike! I just delivered our dinner: Spaghetti w/ marinara sauce (that includes sweet Italian sausage, peppers and onions).
  6:06pm
G:

Don't eat the yellow gristle.
  6:06pm
Carmichael:

They allowed a witch on 7SD. Why is an exorcism any different?
  6:06pm
Caryn:

Right now, finishing my second ball of yarn, as I'm 2/3 through my knitting.
  6:06pm
Matt from Springfield:

Hi kat and Philo!
You may want to listen in more often--back to the studio shows you prefer!
  6:07pm
kat330:

@Matt: Nah, I think it was because the exorcism was not successful.
  6:08pm
G:

Andy told him to Go Buck Himself. then went HAHAHAHAHA at his own wit
  6:08pm
kat330:

@Matt: Shhhh...that was our little secrret. Ken loves to do the opposite, so now he'll try 10x harder to get back in the UCB.
  6:08pm
Matt from Springfield:

Kenny G--he's the type you *beg* him to come, and then *beg* him to leave!

YES! What about this Washington Square busking episode?! That's a nonexistent Holy Grail..
  6:09pm
kat330:

Yay, Caryn! Granny's scarf is nearly done!
  6:09pm
zotz:

Hippies are born angry...MANNNNNN!
  6:09pm
Mike East:

sounds good, kat. My meatloaf sandwich just got here. bon appetit. your songs sounded good, btw. I like the Catch the Wind song especially.
  6:09pm
Matt from Springfield:

@kat: HA!

Are you sure? I coulda swore you typed that on a 7SD list...that's okay, they never read their comments!!! ;)
  6:10pm
G:

@Matt: Maybe they were disinvited from Washington Square, where we know the quality of performers is extremely exalted.
  6:10pm
kat330:

When Ken gets a successful exorcism, Matt, THEN will we get that damn busking show. That's my theory, and I'm sticking to it.
  6:10pm
866:

listening to wfmu at home, reading/browsing books. poll timeeee
  6:10pm
Cindy:

cooking dinner
  6:11pm
the glowing one:

I'm trying out this MIDI keyboard, and for some reason the keys are shifted... :(
  6:11pm
Matt from Springfield:

@zotz: Hey, MAN! Hippies just want to be in a "natural" state. And how are we born? Naked, hungry, dirty, wet and SCREAMING! :)
  6:11pm
Robert:

Fatal flaw: What they're doing is listening to 7SD.
  6:12pm
kat330:

Aw, Mike that's sweet of you to say! :) Guess I should put that track later on, but I wanted the 10 to read down the left margin as something. Now it reads: CHEF CRIERS (as in Chef Ramsey's minions)
  6:12pm
kat330:

Hey,i BEGGED Philo to make a call in (for once) -- he's saying "no." :/
  6:12pm
JessStar:

Driving Because I'm working :)
  6:13pm
G:

OMG, THEY KILLED KENNY('S SENSE OF HUMOR)
  6:13pm
Matt from Springfield:

@G: At that rate they could get themselves banned from every public square in NYC--they spew comedic carnage wherever they go!

@kat: Then Ken will never get himself *properly* exorcised--editing is too much work!!
  6:14pm
G:

His wife is cooking? Did that cannibal cop get out on bail?
  6:15pm
Matt from Springfield:

YES PHILO! Conceptual masterpiece! Rather than just type that you can't type because you're having dinner, CALL IN, and SAY you can't talk, because you're having dinner! Excellence!
  6:15pm
kat330:

You tell him, Matt!
  6:15pm
Matt from Springfield:

@G: Preparation for upcoming 7SD theme--"How to EAT your spouse"...
  6:17pm
Matt from Springfield:

Danne D!
  6:17pm
Philo Gristle:

@Matt That's a SPECTACULAR idea. Love it! It's just that I finished eating. kat's food is too good to eat slowly. Oh well, so it goes. :)
  6:18pm
amEdeo:

DO IT, PHILO.
  6:18pm
kat330:

I realize we're L7 in the midwest, but this is cooking/eating hour in our neck of the woods. We are always sacrificing to be involved in the 6 - 8 pm shows on the streams.
  6:19pm
Ike:

WFMU is always preset #1 on my car radio, but I am listening on the net from work right now.
  6:19pm
listener David:

I'm online trying to figure out how to size a mesh bracelet for one of my watches. As for the radio. 91.1 is preset 1 90.1 is preset 2
  6:19pm
cg in WA:

I'm at work, doing a crossword puzzle. With the internet, it is not drive time everywhere people are listening to you.
  6:19pm
Matt from Springfield:

A good marinara cannot remain at rest! :)
  6:20pm
the glowing one:

WFMU is at the top of my radio playlist, too
  6:21pm
Matt from Springfield:

WFMU is my only radio station site bookmarked on my "short list" of frequent webpages--#1, and only 1!
  6:21pm
Philo Gristle:

Hi amEdeo! Matt sure had a great idea. I feel bad for eating so fast. Really bad. Sniff.
  6:21pm
kat330:

I will give a HUGE reward to anyone who can induce Philo to call in to ANYthing ANYwhere. He is adamant. Won't budge. He just said "no, no, no, no" to me. :/
  6:22pm
northguineahills:

The only selections on my radio playlists are Give the Drummer Radio and WFMU.
  6:22pm
G:

I'm reading and taking notes to pull together in the front of my mind everything I know about the whole history of the philosophical concept of "category" -- Aristotle, Kant, Peirce, Husserl, etc.

Yes, it's occurred to me that's why my comments in the last show were kind of analytical.
  6:24pm
Matt from Springfield:

@G: "A Critique of Pure Reason"!

@NGH: Kind of like that on my work computer's QuickTime--the only way I can get the streams. Recent URLs are the .pls: "wfmu", "wfmu_drummer", and "wfmu_rock". No others!
  6:25pm
kat330:

My highlight of the last show (I presume you're saying Irwin's, G?) was The Bad Plus "Seven Minute Mind" -- nicely matched to this show's title.
  6:25pm
SNYC:

Phone line is perpetually busy!
  6:26pm
G:

@kat: Yep...
  6:27pm
Matt from Springfield:

@kat: I'll have to listen again. I remember it came after "Fuzzy Pink Cadillac", which was probably still at the front of my mind at the time.
  6:28pm
kat330:

Ain't gonna study gravity no mo' / Ain't gonna study gravity no mo',
  6:28pm
Matt from Springfield:

The Looney Tunes theory of physics, not studying gravity leaves you immune to its effects.
  6:29pm
kat330:

Why has Ken not offered to try a successful exorcism?
  6:30pm
G:

What Are You Doing
has evolved into
Change Your Presets
which is Arbitron cheating, only FMU doesn't need to or pay to be in Arbitron (which Neilsen just pointlessly bought)
  6:31pm
Robert:

With the old mechanical presets, it made the most sense to do them in dial order, because that required less leverage.
  6:31pm
G:

I have three bands in my car radio. WFMU is the bottom-left button on one of the bands (closest to press while driving).

The other two bands are more mainstream music and out of town stations for when I drive, and AM news and talk.
  6:31pm
Matt from Springfield:

In between commenting, I'm getting a map product ready to start for tomorrow. Trying to arrange insets for small islands, isolated from the main area.
  6:31pm
kat330:

OK, guess I'll throw a bone: On our Grace, WFMU is preset #1. GTDR is #2, Ichiban is #3, KCRW is #4, BBC 5 is #5 (go figure), WBEZ is #6, WPR is #7 and two Finnish channels are #8 & 9.
  6:32pm
Philo Gristle:

Our squeezebox internet radio (only way to connect to fmu) has wfmu as #1, GTDR as #2 and Ichiban as #3.
  6:32pm
northguineahills:

The last time I had a car, I had no presets. "If I didn't have the station memorized, it's not worth listening" was my my mantra.
  6:32pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Andy: What about BOILERS in New Jersey?!
  6:32pm
kat330:

@Matt: Could you plot the precise place to send a drone to any of our homes?
  6:33pm
northguineahills:

@Matt: I miss cartography, hopefully one of these two jobs I've been contacted about in the last few days pan out.
  6:34pm
G:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Carteret
  6:34pm
Philo Gristle:

Well, meant to say internet radio is the only way to connect as opposed to car radio. We have more than one internet radios.
  6:34pm
kat330:

@Matt & NGH: Doctors w/o Borders just sent us a nice world map. :)
  6:34pm
the glowing one:

Comedy envy, Andy?
  6:35pm
Philo Gristle:

@Matt was going to make a comment about the island that disappeared from in the South pacific that made news a while back, looked up the name and realized it's 3rd Sandy to hit the news in the very recent history. Sandy Island. Odd.
  6:35pm
kat330:

Sending you great good luck wishes, NGH }}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} !
  6:35pm
Matt from Springfield:

@kat: Actually, YOU can do that yourself, with Google Earth or any number of programs ;)

The coords are readily available, but you would need to "pilot" a drone, and be aware of height above ground level, vectors and other considerations in remote piloting. The precise "place" is still a matter of relativity in any targeting. It depends on your vantage point and angle.
  6:36pm
Caryn:

My dad also has his presets in numerical order. Easy to find the channel you want.

@kat: I'm guessing one of the Finnish channels is Radio Helsinki?
  6:36pm
kat330:

I'll make a wager that the name "Sandy" (and even "Sandra") will be the LEAST popular baby girl's name for a number of years.
  6:36pm
G:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandy_Island_(New_Caledonia)
  6:37pm
kat330:

@Caryn: Yep, and Radio Suomi.
  6:37pm
Mike East:

#1=WFMU cuz there's a 1 in 91.1, #3=WNYC cuz there's a 3 in 93.9, #4=Q104.3, #6=WBAI, I can't remember what #2 and 5 are
  6:38pm
northguineahills:

Thanks kat! Now that I've stopped facedesking myself over the email typo snafu, I've actually been busy responding to my resume responses.

Sandy Island never existed!
  6:38pm
Matt from Springfield:

@kat: Most of my free maps come from NatGeo, nice Robinson compromise projection! :)
@Philo: Things tend to go in 3s...
@NGH: May you soon be reunited with ALL the saved projection files!
  6:39pm
ScottC:

Give away dinnerware at the UCB to get butts in the seats...
  6:39pm
Philo Gristle:

Always enjoyed stories about phantom islands... notice wiki on subject is missing Maria Laxara, off Baja.
  6:40pm
G:

UCB couldn't afford the box office they were getting. Bet they asked for a subvention and got nixed by the Power That Be.
  6:40pm
kat330:

@ScottC" Dinnerware... or *dinner*. From the listeners I've encountered, the latter would be a better enticement.
  6:41pm
kat330:

There have always been Latin schools, so why not a Greek school?
  6:42pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Mike: For my XM presets, I've had a similar convulted system based on the presence of a number (channel or in title) corresponding with preset number. Then another similar system when the channel numbers changed...
  6:44pm
Matt from Springfield:

Interesting about Sandy Island, was it a human error repeated or a mythical disappeared island? But mythical geography is great. Or ambiguous geography--Vinland!
  6:45pm
kat330:

Philo, you've loved islands period, phantom or not. Remember Vanuatu?
  6:45pm
Mike East:

nice, Matt. that's bullshit that they changed the channel numbers on you, though.
  6:46pm
Philo Gristle:

@Matt Most of them are human errors; whalers reporting islands way back when, ending up on maps without anyone ever checking up on them.
  6:46pm
G:

The water where "Sandy" "was" is no shallower than a 1300 depth, so it was probably a long-standing error made possible by the remote location plus dicey location fixing in pre-satellite days.
  6:47pm
Philo Gristle:

@kat That's true. I blame Hugo Pratt. Robert Louis Stevenson. Jaco London. Port Vila sounds like a great place to spend quality time in.
  6:48pm
Matt from Springfield:

Proper way to listen to 7SD. With a ghost-white face, quivering.
  6:48pm
northguineahills:

I believe the Sandy Island error was due to an 18th century ship reporting an island that already existed in New Caledonia that was geographically inaccurate, or it was just a full erroneous report.
  6:48pm
Philo Gristle:

Jack 'Pastorius' London.
  6:48pm
ScottC:

@kat330 - That's it! serve free food. Instead of Food Not Bombs it can be Food Not Andy!
  6:49pm
common:

ken, come to philly and do stand up in south philly!
  6:49pm
kat330:

See folks? Isn't this a fine in-studio show??
  6:50pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Philo,G,NGH: Yep, plus with a double reporting of the same island, as you said, may have further covered up a flawed result where there wasn't an island.
  6:50pm
kat330:

Do a Smothers Brothers act you two. Play a little music while delivering your zingers.
  6:50pm
northguineahills:

If you have enough vacation time just to get there and back, Port Vila does look like an ideal holiday destination.
  6:51pm
G:

Used to be people only called talk shows from at home or the office, 25 years ago.

Seems like now they only call from cars using their mobiles.
  6:52pm
Matt from Springfield:

Very fine in-studio!
They generally are classics to listen to anytime in the future--the UCB shows were hit-or-miss, depending on guests, chemistry, even the mics/soundboard getting the signal to the station affected those.
  6:52pm
Philo Gristle:

@ngh Yep. More like a place to retire. Or take a year off. They did get a nasty hit by a Tsunami a few years back.
  6:53pm
kat330:

@Philo: That means the odds are in their favor.
  6:54pm
moose:

tried calling just now but call failed, from 14th st subway station waiting for A train

oh hell sorry
  6:54pm
Michael:

If I'm not mistaken, a sample size of 63 gives you an inherent uncertainty of 1/sqrt(63) ~= 13%.
  6:54pm
kat330:

Right, but the Aztecs and Incans do!
  6:54pm
AARON in Jcity:

LOVED TO CALL - but at work - have andy do the mousetrap trick!!!
  6:55pm
I'm A Moop:

Can't get through! I'm at work and listening on the computer.
  6:55pm
Matt from Springfield:

The "Lyin' Mayan" Routine!

Ha, "it just doesn't matter" Andy!
  6:55pm
Philo Gristle:

@kat So you're ok with us moving there? Great!
  6:56pm
kat330:

ONE reason they are getting a full phone bank is how effin' long it's been since they've TAKEN phone calls. Duh.
  6:56pm
kat330:

@Philo: Absolument! As long as you can ensure we'll build on higher ground.
  6:57pm
Matt from Springfield:

@moose: Take the "A" Train...
  6:57pm
kat330:

Sheldon!!!!
  6:58pm
zotz:

Jewel - she broke the yolks to make a smiley face...and that made all the difference!
  6:58pm
Matt from Springfield:

Headsets?? Then you can't hear if someone's walking up on you!!
  6:58pm
northguineahills:

Since I've been unemployed, I spend a good 40 minutes on Google Earth a day.
  6:58pm
kat330:

It's been sooooo long since I've heard Sheldon on air.
  6:59pm
ScottC:

Zing! got the mastabatorium in there right at the end
  6:59pm
Pete from Boston (and NJ):

At home, having dinner!
  6:59pm
kat330:

@NGH & Matt: I'll shoot you guys a satellite shot of our backyard in email. ;)
  6:59pm
Matt from Springfield:

Great job Ken and Andy! I guess you've earned Detention for the next weeks as well!

Have a great night, and a Happy and Safe Holiday EVERYBODY!
See you guys next year!
  6:59pm
Philo Gristle:

Google earth..... whatever else I may complain about them, that and google moon, mars, oceans and the rest are heaven.
  6:59pm
Carmichael:

Jewel Kilcher is Jewish.
  7:00pm
kat330:

Key West? Sweet.

K&A and all of you all, have a safe and happy end-of-the-world weekend leading into a very Merry Christmas and continuing on to a MOST HAPPY 2013!!
  7:00pm
G:

Just ate the last leftover latke with sour cream and dill. No, I'm not Jewish.
  7:00pm
Philo Gristle:

G'night, owl!
  12:37am
groucho:

9 minutes in, you ask what listeners are doing.

Well, I'm listening via archive, at 5.34am on december 20th in northern England. I just ate a pork pie and a ham sandwich, I'm drunk, I'm in bed and I'm contemplating looking at xhamster.com and playing with myself.
  5:19am
Hamster Hoax:

Leave it to Hunter to make Sandy Hook about nude beaches.
