Colombian Music Encuentro Pt 2 - plus a little Hanukkah

Hear this show now: Pop-up listen Pop-up player! | Add or read comments

At last month's Colombian Music Encuentro at Le Poisson Rouge, 10 bands and artists from New York's thriving Colombian music scene kept a full house on its feet for six hours. We broadcast three hours live on November 10th and tonight we'll hear the rest of the electrifying event as recorded that evening. Including: The folk-guitar / jazz roots artistry of Alejandro Florez & Tibaguí; the effervescent Afro-Tropical-Colombian dancefloor workouts of Grupo Rebolú, the heady jazz guitar improv inventions of Sebastián Cruz's Cheap Landscape Trio, and the cathartic Afro-Colombian punk-psychedelic excursions of M.A.K.U Sound System.

where is this music from? sounds bulgarian.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm Your DJ:

Bulgar Turk - the Koliadnyky are Hutsul winter song singers from Kryvorivnia, a village in the Carpathian Mountains in Ukraine.

nice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:07pm Your DJ:

Thanks Hamburger! Timbagui leader Alejandro Florez's concept is interesting, drawing loosely from Andean melodies; and he and his band are clearly excellent musicians.
  7:10pm hamburger:

no thank YOU RW! That track really made me want to be there - and also thanks for the background info!
  7:38pm Looms:

Thanks Looms!
  11:43am Eidolon:

Somewhere around 8:45 p.m., Eastern time, you were playing something that sounded like Bryan Ferry doing a slow kind of singing, his voice like from back in the days of the first two Roxy Music lps. Can you identify which of these groups that might have been? Thanks.
