Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Thanks for checking out this episode of The Dusty Show. I appreciate your continued interest and support. As I am typing this, it is Dec. 28th, 2012 and I have gotten WAAAAY behind on my playlists. I had been good for some time in keeping up, but with the holidays season, a new job, and now, a severe cold, I have dropped the ball and it has been dribbling helplessly at the 31-Yard line, partially deflated, leaking, and pale. Nearly bereft of brown.

Anyway ... I will try to catch up in the near future, but it may not happen ... ever. There might just be a few weeks where I just completely sag and whole blocks of weeks are left pitifully un-logged. Is this the sign of a show in trouble? Of a DJ who's lost his spark and creative energy? Perhaps. All things must pass. We shall see if I get wind in my sails again and lift this massive beast aloft again, or if its torso drags in the dirt and grinds to an inglorious halt. What does that mean? I have no idea. I am sick.

Love to you and yours as we approach the new year. I hope it is a tremendous one for you. Happy, healthy, profitable, meaningful, fun, exciting, and large. Very large. Now I must go. Off into the night in a narcoleptic, walking-daze of partial-somnombulistic haze. Ill. Ill. Ill! Miss ya. Love ya. Always remember!

Hail Pigeon!
Avatar 6:04pm Clay:

Thank you for entering the Cave of Distinction ...
  6:04pm david:

Hi Clay, Hi Matt
  6:05pm Matt from Springfield:

Hey Big Spelunker...
Hi david!
Avatar 6:05pm Clay:

Hi, David.
  6:06pm Power:

It's nice to know people can still hold on to hope even when they aren't holding onto much else
Hello everyone
  6:08pm Matt from Springfield:

Speak truth to Power, and welcome.
Avatar 6:09pm Clay:

Power to the People!
  6:09pm Matt from Springfield:

"Mark IV" is this? GREAT soul cut!
  6:09pm david:

I attribute that "Obama" yelp to a major network in my mind at this point, it's so iconic... But I think it's Clay's!
  6:09pm sfrances from VA:

Hello all!! All Hello!! (working on photos/won't be chatting much)
  6:09pm Carmichael:

Hey Clay! Just reading the Star Ledger coverage. You are an American hero!!
  6:10pm kata:

hey Clay and everyboday... listening but sort of busy at the office. :(
  6:10pm david:

The muck-out - bleach, ammonia, vinegar... but not all at once!
Avatar 6:11pm Clay:

Yes. I like i too, Mattman Du.

Hi kata! Carm! frances!
@david: It IS from a major show on a major network: The Dusty Show, on WFMU! :D
  6:12pm david:

Palestine, TX independence
Avatar 6:12pm Clay:

KataCarmFrances ..... YES!
  6:12pm Matt from Springfield:

LOL, Bob Seger sang a rockin' song for me, "Mattman Du"!
  6:12pm Power:

Interesting point to take. "Lesser of two evils."
  6:12pm Matt from Springfield:

YAY! Willie lovin' pot smokin' Texan, the good kind!
Avatar 6:13pm Clay:

Exactlly, Matt.
  6:13pm Phillip in San Antonio:

She would have voted most likely for Gary Johnson.
  6:13pm david:

heh exactly MFS... "i've been known to," and Willie Nelson is her fav artist - she's a chron, god bless her soul...
  6:14pm Power:

I personally felt that at times the election became a game of "spot the differences" especially regarding the foreign policy debate.
Avatar 6:14pm Clay:

Chron .. ha ha!
  6:14pm Fredericks:

  6:15pm Power:

In other news, dog bites man!
  6:15pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Texas will become the 51st state to legalize marijuana.
  6:15pm Andrew Waterloo:

But, Romney's campaign strategy became "what Obama does is great, that's why you like it, I'm going to do it with better leadership"
  6:15pm Matt from Springfield:

@Power: After Mitt feigning bluster over Obama's foreign policy, he had to admit under questioning that there's really nothing different he would do from Obama. The candidates even switched to domestic policy in the middle of the foreign policy debate!
Avatar 6:15pm Clay:

I knew that when I said it, Fredericks, but narrative, man, narrative. Been wondering after you. Hope all's well in Pasco.
  6:16pm Matt from Springfield:

Hiya Fred R. Icks!
  6:16pm Matt from Springfield:

Kwanzaa Trekkie Festivus, the best (only?) kind!
  6:16pm Andrew Waterloo:

At least Willie got arrested for Pot. I remember Bob Dylan getting arrested, or at least hassled by police, for going out for a walk dressed like he was doing laundry.
Avatar 6:17pm Clay:

Ha ha, Phillip. You did spawn The Bubble Puppy, Bloodrock, Pantera, Joe King Carrasco, and Janis Joplin, though.
  6:18pm dale:

just tuning in over the earwaves. yay for clay!
Avatar 6:19pm Clay:

Dale. Windham and Hunter open this weekend.
  6:19pm david:

Some website recommended '90s gifts for the holiday, including Dr. Dre's "The Chronic"
  6:20pm Marmalade Kitty:

Good evening Clay & all!
Avatar 6:20pm Clay:

Dre's beats are dope.
  6:20pm Fredericks:

Hello, Clayton, Mathew and Pigeonaires.

All is well is Pasco.
  6:21pm Phillip in San Antonio:

We also helped spawn Howard Hughes, Joan Crawford, Roy Orbison, and Scott no relation to Janis Joplin.
Avatar 6:21pm Clay:

Happy Holidays, Marmalade. Welcome!
  6:21pm Fredericks:

For now.
  6:21pm dale:

the day of sandy our power went out around 3 and we were listening over a little battery powered sangean am/fm/shortwave. got so bummed when you or the mt hope transmitter went out. wanted to hear your overnight wolfman moment.
  6:22pm Matt from Springfield:

"Cheesecake rappers all sound like meshuggas"?? Rap takes a bath in the Crown Heights environment!
  6:23pm Matt from Springfield:

Evening, M. Kitty!
  6:23pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Port Arthur, Texas is supremely depressing with the refinery pollution. I need to do a sad pictorial book on depressing Texas destinations.
  6:23pm david:

guy's oretty good.
  6:24pm kata:

just want to announce, in case you missed it, Palestine was just recognized as a state by the UN ! Hope it helps ~
  6:24pm TexaSpawn:

Mustn't forget Molly Ivins and Ann Richardson -- wonderful, witty women.
  6:25pm Matt from Springfield:

"Texas is a great place to be FROM!" :)
  6:26pm Power:

I was surprised to learn how much thought, psychology, and folk psychology goes into how an array of products, literature, etc. is laid out before the customer. Its fascinating when you're 22 and working your first position in the industry.
  6:26pm Matt from Springfield:

Ties on women are really cute! Credit the long-ago Diane Keaton with influencing me there...
  6:26pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Politics of this state are horrid and nerve racking.
  6:27pm Matt from Springfield:

@Power: Do you work in marketing/product development?
  6:27pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Carol Burnett is from San Antonio and wasn't fond of it.
  6:28pm Matt from Springfield:

BERNARD HERRMANN!!! You're getting props from even *Fabio* with this!
  6:28pm dale:

i have a salvador dali tie he did for haband of new jersey. goofy but cherished. i also have an ugly geometric but when you flip it up there's a naked 1960s woman on the back. always a larf
  6:28pm Davy Crockett:

Neither was I.
Avatar 6:28pm Clay:

I've been visiting with Dave The Spazz in the studio. He says hello and, along with me, says THANKS for supporting the TNP during the fundraiser. Your Thursday Night Package. Night People next.
  6:29pm Power:

Not quite. Was volunteering for an addictions support group. The pamphlets had to be laid out in strict order - beginners at eye level, and literature for established patients found on lower levels.
Avatar 6:29pm Clay:

I'm loving this Ghost and Mrs. Muir LP, Matt.
  6:30pm Power:

We have a bit of a housing/debt bubble up here in Canada!
  6:31pm Matt from Springfield:

@Power: Makes sense, any "sell" of a product that you're making has to be thought out, and make sure you're reaching the intended audience.
Avatar 6:31pm Clay:

Canada ... Welcome!
  6:32pm david:

Bombs are dropping while we're shopping. World peace now.
  6:32pm Power:

What is Sears like in the U.S., by the way?
Avatar 6:33pm Clay:

Kata. Interesting news about the U.N. Thank you for updating.
  6:33pm Phillip in San Antonio:

I'd say Sears will be extinct by the end of next year.
  6:34pm dale:

it's no simpsons/sears, that's fer shure
  6:34pm Matt from Springfield:

@Clay: But the Dusty Show is so current, and down to Earth. Don't think of it as a pre-recorded tape "running behind" @3, think of it as a "real time" show "completed beforehand"!
  6:34pm david:

Power - 2 or 3 floors - wall to wall junk
  6:34pm green mountain man mark:

Oh we'll.
Avatar 6:34pm Clay:

They should have never parted with Roebuck.
Avatar 6:35pm Clay:

The Mark of Excellence!
  6:35pm Power:

@Matt: The operation didn't have that much money to throw around. I understand if they want to make sure dozens of pamphlets don't sit around where they can't be seen.
  6:35pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Besty Buy looks like its last gasp for air are Best Buy Mobile stores.
  6:36pm dale:

owned by kmart and most of the employees got cuts to kmart pay scale. enthusiasm is non existent. EXCEPT for a really cool part time guy i met in tools last year, was a ww2 vet and very interesting. but that tells you where they look for help
  6:36pm Fred:

My idols are Clay
  6:36pm david:

No Silvertones...
  6:37pm dale:

as for sears, do yourself a favor and peruse these old sears (and others) christmas wishbooks

  6:37pm Phillip in San Antonio:

It just seems like Best Buy Mobile is destined for failure.
  6:37pm kmart:

I thought Sears bought US.
  6:38pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Does Pier One Imports still exist?
  6:40pm seang:

bring back the codpiece
  6:40pm green mountain man mark:

Oh well. Oh we'll.
  6:41pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Steve Buscemi the best.
  6:41pm Witches Coven:

Those spells *are* copyrighted. You need to submit the proper forms, to be approved by a vote at our General Assembly, and pay the £5 filing fee. They are not yours to take, you know.
  6:41pm david:

"entertaining" for brad pitt this guy is diplomatic
Avatar 6:42pm Clay:

Bet that's great, Dale.
  6:42pm Power:

@Witches Coven: Can I pay in euros?
  6:43pm Matt from Springfield:

@Phillip: Besides finding "Boardwalk Empire" appealing in its own right, I've always loved it for Steve Buscemi as well! For a great actor you've seen as a second fiddle in pretty much everything before it, I was so glad for Steve to finally be a leading man!
Avatar 6:43pm Clay:

I loved Moneyball.
Avatar 6:43pm Clay:

... and Pitt was good in 12 Monkeys.
  6:43pm kata:

Owen Wilson is underrated. The writing he's done for film is brilliant.
  6:44pm Phillip in San Antonio:

I'm sorry Clay but i donated to Scharpling.
  6:44pm Witches Coven:

@Power: No, no, get those converted to Pounds. We are pagan wicca, whereas Euros come from the Devil!
  6:45pm Phillip in San Antonio:

I enjoyed Steve alot in "Trees Lounge" and of course "Ghost World".
  6:45pm Matt from Springfield:

It all goes to the same place Phillip!
(Though I spread teeny amounts over vvvvvvvvvvvvery many shows here, perhaps too many!)
  6:46pm TexaSpawn:

Women (many) found Pitt more than entertaining in his debut turn in Thelma and Louise.
  6:46pm Power:

@Witches Coven: haha!
  6:46pm Phillip in San Antonio:

I wish all of you WFMU DJs would turn into one great big robot. Oh wait, that robot is called WFMU.
  6:46pm Matt from Springfield:

No room for "man-made crap" in my spirituality! Focus on what goes beyond any self!
Avatar 6:47pm Clay:

Phillip thanks for the pledge! It's all for the cause.
  6:47pm Matt from Springfield:

  6:48pm dpcd:

Shakespeare was a great interview!
  6:48pm sfrances from VA:

Clay has BieberFever!?! ;)
Avatar 6:48pm Clay:

TY dpcd!
  6:48pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Luckily Bieber sold his soul to the devil, so he won't be going to where we are going.
  6:49pm Power:

Britney Spears, Clay? We're going a bit too far back for those young girls, are we?
  6:49pm dale:

was bobby sherman our justin bieber?
  6:50pm Andrew Waterloo:

Bieber isn't a deal with the devil. The devil takes pride in his work. He gave us James Brown.
Avatar 6:51pm Clay:

Bobby didn't sing this well. His shag was cool, though.
  6:51pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Justin Bieber + G.G. Allin = G.G. Bieber.
  6:51pm Matt from Springfield:

Britney Spears is now what Paula Abdul USED to be, and that's after her first USED to be!
  6:51pm dale:

whoa, this is autotuned all to hell. could be me up there singing
  6:52pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Now if we could only get Bieber to shit on the crowd.
  6:52pm david:

good point Matt
  6:52pm Power:

When I was 13, my family got its first computer. When I learned how to save images onto floppies the first ones I saved were stills from "Hit Me Baby." I think I still have that floppy sitting around...
  6:53pm sfrances from VA:

you can have Bobby Sherman, I was a David Cassidy girl! (first concert, I was 8!)
  6:53pm Matt from Springfield:

@Phillip: The difference is, with G.G. Bieber, that scat comes OUT of his mouth!! Zing! Oooof, that is a bit harsh... :P
  6:54pm dale:

my first concert was renaissance. prog fart.
  6:54pm david:

Cambodia? Damn, I'd be an alcoholic...
  6:54pm Phillip in San Antonio:

OOOHH! Indeed!
Avatar 6:54pm Clay:

Is that Annie Haslam, Dale?
  6:54pm Matt from Springfield:

Renaissance rocks, dale! I like them.
  6:55pm Andrew Waterloo:

Mine was Tom Cochrane and Kim Mitchell. Canadian child of the 80s
  6:55pm Phillip in San Antonio:

I wish this cap the best. Cambodia was some really ugly work.
Avatar 6:55pm Clay:

Man, I goota go. LOVE you guys! Thanks for everything and have a great weekend. Always remember ... CPNJ1299
Avatar 6:56pm Clay:

  6:56pm sfrances from VA:

  6:56pm dale:

yeah, she wore this diaphanous gown with aback light and i swear no underwear. she had an 8 octave range. first renaissance was keith relf and jim mccarty, tho
  6:56pm Matt from Springfield:

<3 to the former "tunnel rat". You can see the narrow tunnels as tourist in Vietnam today. And, those have apparently been DOUBLED in width to accomodate tourists. That's the dirty reality of war: fighting in narrow, dark tunnels at an adversary you can't see.
  6:56pm seang:

Billy Squier rocks!
  6:57pm Matt from Springfield:

Also, since it hasn't been mentioned: RIP, George H.
11 years since Nov 29. Always, remembered...
  6:57pm Power:

We're starting to see Afghan vets in the program here. That country tears good men apart. Sending that old soldier my best wishes.
  6:57pm green mountain man mark:

Oh well. WFMU should do it.
  6:58pm Matt from Springfield:

Thanks for another great episode Clay!
Have a good night Pigeonites! Remember forever!
  6:59pm dpcd:

Palestine... thanks Italy for doing something right.
  7:00pm seang:

yeah man, George Harrison
  7:01pm dpcd:

The US can't see this conflict for the lawyers, lobyists and corporations, as usual recently!
  4:40pm Pine:
