Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Thanks for checking out this episode of The Dusty Show! I hope you found it to be worthwhile. I had no specific theme for this show. Lately, I've taken to recording at Penn Station/Madison Square Garden, as there is most often an interesting and varied cross-section of people there. Business people, tourists, commuters, tourists, street people, Democrats, Republicans, everything. Thank you for your response to the interviews with the homeless. Please do what you can to help them. Could be us, right? Who knows?

Thanks to those who have pledged to The Dusty Show and WFMU during our Hurricane Sandy fundraising efforts. You have been most generous. If you haven't made a pledge, please consider doing so. We suffered a great deal of damage with the hurricane and with the cancellation of our Record Fair. Hopefully, with your help, we'll see it through and keep on going inot 2013.

Until next time ... take care and ... always remember.

  6:04pm Matt from Springfield:

For Dylan's "now" song, you should have played from Dylan's Christmas Album! :)
  6:06pm Matt from Springfield:

What is he angry about? In a few words?
"Whatcha got?"
  6:06pm sfrances from VA:

howdy! i'll be in the other room sewing curtains & enjoying the show! =)
Avatar 6:06pm Clay:

Howdy fellow Dustheads
  6:08pm Matt from Springfield:

Hi frances! Hi Cecile, Pine, all Dustyfans!

Oh Clay, your song "That Dirty Clown" has been getting some airplay on WFMU lately!
  6:09pm Pine:

Thanks Clay, I almost slept in :D
  6:09pm Matt from Springfield:

And Dusthead david :)
  6:10pm Matt from Springfield:

Come to think, the Brando voice should be "Whaddaya got?"
  6:10pm Carmichael:

Here we are with WFMU's man on the street. Hiya Clay.
  6:11pm Cecile:

if he's so idealistic, how come he's borrowing money from a sister he doesn't like? Just askin....
  6:11pm seang:

Nice to hear you Clay
Avatar 6:12pm Clay:

@David Hello!
@Matt ... that's cool about Dirty Clown. I almost played it today.
@Carmichael ... Hello, sir!
Avatar 6:12pm Clay:

Seang ... I can always count on you. Welcome.
Avatar 6:13pm Clay:

Cecile you are STILL here!
  6:13pm Cecile:

this Chick Corea piece was lovely, where is it from?
  6:13pm Pine:

Link to that German thing yer man was talking about http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schadenfreude
  6:14pm Cecile:

not for much longer, but yeah.
  6:14pm Matt from Springfield:

The previous guy would see me as part of the problem--the witty way to put it is: "I absolutely do not laugh at other people's misfortune--unless they deserve it!" :D

Karl Rove, Todd Akin, people in politics lately for example. But especially "regular" people, I believe you shouldn't laugh at most misfortune, sometimes even if they *do* deserve it.
Avatar 6:15pm Clay:

@Cecile Chick Corea - Piano improvisations #1 (ECM Records, Norway, 1971) You heard Picture 5, Picture 6
  6:15pm david:

  6:15pm kata:

late to the party. hi Clay and everyone !
Avatar 6:15pm Clay:

It's been hard not to gloat, MAtt.
Avatar 6:16pm Clay:

Good ear, David!
  6:16pm Matt from Springfield:

Glad he still has pride in his home state, even if that is Mississippi!
  6:16pm Cecile:

thanks, Clay.
Matt, that's right. I try not to glory in others's pain, but I'm only human...and some people deserveit.
  6:17pm david:

Orchestra hits FTW
  6:18pm Pine:

Stupidity is something I can laugh at but not necessarilly misfortune
  6:18pm Carmichael:

Go home, Cecile! :-)
  6:18pm Matt from Springfield:

Hi kata!
  6:19pm nyoukis:

Pine,, yr on the money.
  6:19pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Hello all. Hope everyone has been recovering well and continuing to do so.
  6:20pm Matt from Springfield:

Avatar 6:21pm Clay:

  6:21pm Matt from Springfield:

Hey Phillip, nyoukis.
  6:21pm Philo Gristle:

@Cecile If you're the cause of another's pain, it's a kind of glory in it.
Avatar 6:22pm Clay:

David, that orchestra hits-laden artist was "Teri." Fairly obscure I think.
Avatar 6:22pm Clay:

Bye Cecile. Motor 'em safe.
  6:22pm Matt from Springfield:

Philo! :) Welcome back! How have you been?
  6:23pm david:

Interesting Clay, thanks! :)

  6:24pm david:

Knowledge Reigns Supreme over nearly every One. The teacher!
  6:26pm Matt from Springfield:

Yeowch, that's rough. I feel for this guy.
Arrests and incarcerations (whether you did the crime or not) so often lead to homelessness.
  6:26pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Anyone thinking of making a trip to Colorado or Washington anytime soon?
Avatar 6:27pm Clay:

Already there, Phillip. Already there.
  6:27pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Quite a bold milestone those two made!
  6:27pm david:

Ever hear Percy on those recent PBS special? Brings the key down about an octave and a half. Brutal! But you have to respect him.
  6:27pm steve:

i've liked the Occupy and election shows... but nice to hear a hear a non political show now that the election's over!
  6:27pm kata:

I like when you guys were rapping
  6:28pm Pine:

He was pretty good!
  6:29pm david:

There's a great Occupy effort for Sandy relief, with hubs in NJ, Brooklyn, Rockaway, etc. I can see Clay hopping on those with his cassette recorder...
  6:29pm Phillip in San Antonio:

secession huh? hah!
  6:29pm Carmichael:

Clay done got himself to the Triple Rock Church. He saw the Reverend Cleophus. He got religion.
Avatar 6:30pm Clay:

Kata and Steve. Good to see you.

@David ... I feel guilty for not having done so already, David.
  6:30pm steve:

david - i agree... an occupy sandy show would be fantastic

I remember seeing that P.M Dawn video on Night Tracks on TBS i'd say in 1990. Does anyone remember Night Flight on the USA Network back in roughly 1982 till 1990?
  6:35pm Phillip in San Antonio:

USA Network back it the 80s had great shows. Saturday Nightmares, Kung Fu Theatre, Commander USA, USA Up All Night.
  6:35pm Pine:

Lovely! :D
  6:36pm Pine:

  6:42pm david:

  6:43pm Matt from Springfield:

Go Joe McG! Summit!
  6:43pm Night Al:

Sorry..I was soaking in a hot tub while listening.
Avatar 6:43pm Clay:

I worked for Heart at the Pinellas Ribfest 2012 last Saturday. The stage was littered with these little containers of high end vocal spray afterwards.
  6:49pm Matt from Springfield:

Another rough situation this episode. Thoughts and prayers to all the homeless featured tonight.
  6:49pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Man, what an interview.
  6:50pm Matt from Springfield:

  6:53pm Timb:

Great show Clay!
Avatar 6:53pm Clay:

Hi Timb! Thanks.
  6:54pm Matt from Springfield:

Wow. Not only getting a homeless woman you just met to open up, but asking her to search for what part of her situation comes from her fault? Wow, truly Magic of Clay, you have a power, and you use it for good.
  6:54pm david:

People who made $85k a year and know what "schaudenfreude" mean are homeless in Penn Station. Only in America. SMH
  6:54pm Ari:

heartbreaking stuff, good show
  6:55pm Night Al:

The local Salvation Army is at the end of my street. There are always lots of homeless people around my neighborhood.
  6:55pm Phillip in San Antonio:

What concert?
  6:55pm steve:

im glad you're here to give these people a voice.
Avatar 6:56pm Clay:

I wanted to say thanks everyone, for listening, and for those able to pledge. I have a looong way to go to reach the goal. If you can make a donation to Sandy survivors or a homeless outreach, do that first, and then WFMU. Have a good weekend. Be happy, Enjoy the beautiful Fall, and ... always remember! Clay
Avatar 6:56pm Clay:

  6:56pm sweet cheri:

  6:57pm Matt from Springfield:

What steve said, give them a voice and carry out "therapy" as well!
You should take some of your empathy and sell it to the public! :D
  6:57pm kata:

thanks Clay, great show. Until next time all ~
  6:58pm david:

Always remember
  6:59pm Matt from Springfield:

Incredible show Clay! Thanks!
Keep on remembering, everyone! Have a good night!
  11:40pm Matt from Harrisburg, PA:

Clay, that was a powerful hour of radio. That interview with the homeless woman who didn't eat for days really was sad. I hope she got to see her son. Clay, the way you spoke to her was truly great and you are a awesome, compassionate person.
