Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Listener comments!

  6:02pm Danne D:

Lookit Clay takin' like half the storm off. Bankers hours ;o)

Glad to see you here Clay :)
Avatar 6:02pm Klay:

Hello all!
  6:03pm Matt from Springfield:

ALL RIGHT Clay! You played "Timothy", Rupert Holmes' song about cannibalism! :)
  6:03pm Brainiac:

My God! They ATE Timothy!!!! You Bastards!
  6:03pm Matt from Springfield:

I heard this was a WFMU "thing" a while ago!
  6:03pm Goyim in the AM:

Timothy, Timothy, I'd help you if I could
Timothy, Timothy, boy did you taste good!
  6:04pm Charlie Chuck Chuckles:

ahhh some Thursday normalcy on the radio
  6:05pm other david:

Brilliant to hear you back, Clay.
  6:05pm sFrances from VA:

Hello all! Boy it's great to hear Clay's voice!
  6:05pm tim from champaign:

Hey Clay! Glad to hear you and FMU made it!
  6:05pm Matt from Springfield:

@Goyim: Amen. *picks up fork and knife, digs into Timothy*
  6:06pm BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Clay, have you moved in to the WFMU building yet?
  6:06pm Matt from Springfield:

Hi Danne, OD, Frances, Goyim and Klay fans!

Didn't get to hear a storm-extravaganza from Klay yet, so here we go!
  6:07pm Caryn:

Didn't listen carefully enough to notice whether this was the version with "my stomach was full as it could be" or whether it was the censored version. Anyone?
  6:07pm Julie:

"Klay?" Is he going to play the Kinks? (Hi Clay!!)
Avatar 6:08pm Klay:

Hard to type and keep up with these singles. Good to see y'all!!!!
  6:09pm Dave in PA:

Bummer about the Record Fair... WOW that's a tasty fuzz tone! Is the transmitter back on air yet?
  6:09pm Matt from Springfield:

Singles Going Stormy tonight?
Dusty helps us through this "Dust-Up".
  6:09pm Timb:

Listening from Fort Lauderdale! Break a leg, Clay!
  6:10pm kata:

at home on furlough from work and sick to boot. Happy to hear the show, will cure me :) thanks Clay.
  6:10pm Charlie Chuck Chuckles:

stories "floating" around... nice
  6:11pm amEdeo:

Good to hear your voice again, Clay.
  6:11pm Ike:

It's good to hear you Clay. And this song is absolutely terrible! :) I'm so happy to hear WFMU again anyway though, now that the power is back on here.
  6:11pm wendy del formaggio:

So nice to hear your voice, Clay Pigeon. I sent some love to the station at the top of the hour, in the form of money. I wish I had more, but for now it's what I can spare.
  6:13pm Charlie Chuck Chuckles:

campy 70s soft rock is eerily comforting right now for some reason
  6:13pm Matt from Springfield:

Obscure old Steely Dan indeed!
@Ike: Even if it's terrible, this is "obscure vinyl exhumation"--it needs to be played! :)
  6:14pm Julie:

Let him throw up
  6:14pm Dave in PA:

Ken tell us the truth - how bad is it?
  6:14pm Danne D:

Yay Ken!
  6:15pm Caryn:

Yay, Monday's Ken/Klay diumvirate returns!
  6:15pm ERD:

Love Timothy, a cannibalism classic and one of my favorite Rupert Holmes songs. Great to hear you back Clay!
  6:16pm Ike:

@MfS: All kidding aside, that's an awful reason to play something. I maintain that people should play things only if they're good! But, as always, your mileage may vary. Love y'all!
  6:18pm kata:

wow, thanks for illustrating the true state of things Ken ~ very interesting.
  6:20pm wendy del formaggio:

I thought "Timothy" was supposed to be about a parakeet or something. Maybe that's what they told me to stop me from screaming... In any event, I love it. I also love Steely Dan, so go soak yer head, Ike! ;-)
  6:20pm Charlie Chuck Chuckles:

yeah Ken! Preach it! More people need to know the truth about the Red Cross!!
  6:20pm Julie:

Yes! Me too! Power here, and I feel so lucky.
  6:22pm Ike:

@Wendy, I am *happy* to go soak my head since I now have power and thus HOT WATER is back! Hurrah!! ;)
  6:23pm kata:

btw, was awesome hearing you and Irwin gushing with obscenities yesterday Ken -
  6:26pm wendy del formaggio:

Ike, I am SO HAPPY you have power and hot water again. My heart goes out to all of you, my friends, who are experiencing this mess down in NY/NJ. Stay safe, please!
  6:27pm Danne D:

Thx Wendy!

OMG - that's a 2013 Premium item - Christie Hugging Ken!
  6:28pm Julie:

"I got stroked by Governor Christie"
  6:28pm Danne D:

Clearly Christie knows the subversive nature of Ken
  6:28pm BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I imagine that Chris Christie smells of beef and cheese.
  6:28pm wendy del formaggio:

"An awkwardly-long, rubby hug" is the best combination of words I've heard in a long time. Sorry it had to happen to you, Ken, but at least you get a good story out of it...
  6:28pm other david:

Ken: are you in a position to estimate how much it costs to stream per listener?

Like, I listen *A LOT* and I'm wondering if I even donate enough to cover that.
  6:29pm Danne D:

I can't say a damn thing in the negative about the governor in terms of his reaction to the storm.
  6:29pm wendy del formaggio:

I want to see a black velvet painting of Christie giving Ken an awkwardly-long, rubby hug.
  6:29pm Ike:

@kata -- what?! I missed it and it's not archived?! Oh no!!
  6:30pm Joe B:

Springsteens wife was in studio B to perform on Jonesville Station a few years back
  6:31pm NEUstudio:

All the best to the station. Good luck to everybody.
Just imagine the situation to an almost bankrupt country like Greece where I live, where I can't afford to pledge money to my favourite station. We shall overcome.
  6:32pm david:

hey guys.
  6:33pm Matt from Springfield:

GET OFF THE AIR CLAY!! We can raise shitloads of money that way!! ;D
  6:33pm kathleen in chicago:

I donated a pittance during the actual silent part of the silent fundraiser. Corrected that with a bigger donation yesterday! Hang on guys!
  6:34pm BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

More Night Ranger!
  6:34pm Danne D:

Hope Clay could play some Nektar in honor of Sherman Hemsley during his next fill-in :)
  6:34pm kata:

@Ike -- yeah they were going for it, very cathartic for them and hilarious to me..
  6:34pm Marco (from Montreux, Switzerland):

How can we help the station (after pledging) when we are far from NJ?
  6:34pm david:

"Yes!" "No!" "I don't know."
  6:35pm Danne D:

Justin doesn't light anybody on fire at gas stations does he?
  6:35pm Unctuous Rancid Dwarfman:

Long Live Dusty!
  6:36pm other david:

This station is priceless.
  6:36pm Charlie Chuck Chuckles:

The show where Clay got his OBAAAAMMMAAAAA clip from... I thought that guy was gonna beat clay up. Scary moment for dusty
  6:36pm Danne D:

Hoof N Mouth 2013 - Ken and Clay do "Close to the Edge"

C'mon people - pledge for just the idea of this :)
  6:38pm Dave in PA:

...not to forget Tommy De Carlo discovered singing on YouTube, then for Boston!
  6:38pm Caryn:

Clay, play Styx!
  6:39pm sFrances from VA:

no!!!NO NO!!!
  6:39pm Timb:

Clay, have you heard the South Park cover of Come Sail Away?
  6:39pm wendy del formaggio:

BAS! My friend in the Netherlands! Hey, I just got in two great cheeses from Holland recently. Of course I thought of you when they arrived. :-)
  6:40pm Danne D:

Picture Ken in this lady's place:
  6:40pm other david:

Ahem, wasnt expecting that :)

Will be upping my pledge next week, repeating myself, but this place is priceless - even if I am across the ocean.
  6:40pm Danne D:

Bas is such a good dude. I hope to meet him stateside some time :)
  6:40pm Unctuous Rancid Dwarfman:

how about some Hall & Oates? :)
  6:41pm Matt from Springfield:

Ultimate veteran, or deluded individual! :P

But wow, thank you guys. Means a lot.
If WFMU means a lot to you, please lend it a little more help.
  6:41pm Julie:

the ferry is great, took that there every thursday!
  6:42pm Danne D:

@URD - did you hear Mary Wing's show last week :)
  6:42pm kata:

northeasterners will all become preppers now ;)
  6:42pm other david:

Nah Matt, you're not deluded - you just know a good thing when you hear it :)
  6:42pm david:

There are some good Occupy aid activities going on around Sandy that I could see Clay covering... They've really sprung into action in a heartfelt way, volunteering where needed, etc.
  6:43pm Danne D:

God delivered Chris Christie to hug him. That would be persuasive in terms of God punishing folks...
  6:43pm Danne D:

How do they tell the guardsman from plain old hipsters wearing berets?
  6:43pm mo:

the butterfly is lunesta
  6:43pm Matt from Springfield:

"Doggy" tranquilizers? Do they still make so-called "horse tranquilizers"? Let's go to some stables and find out!!
  6:44pm BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Ken's slowly taking the bath salts leftover from 7SD a few weeks back.
  6:45pm Matt from Springfield:

@Danne: Haircuts probably. Also can tell by how "ironic" they sound :)
  6:45pm Julie:

The One Thing
  6:45pm other david:

Aw, I'll never tire of Clay's "oh, come on.." when trying to extract an embarrassing confession from the interviewee
  6:45pm david:

Got To Let You Know - that's INXS right?
  6:46pm kata:

INXS was my first concert in 1988 at Radio City, at age 13. PIL opened. Awesome. Can't listen to them anymore though.
  6:46pm jmd:

Ken. When you tried out to be singer of Pell Mell?
  6:47pm rick from sc:

Ken was into Dog Faced Hermanns & Giant Sand
  6:47pm Skirkie:

Wait, I missed this, did Christie hug you like, recently?
  6:47pm Unctuous Rancid Dwarfman:

Dusty needs to do a show from south jersey
  6:47pm Bz:

Clay: Christie wanted to EAT Ken!
  6:48pm Observer:

Ken drank the haterade :)
  6:48pm Danne D:

What price would you put on the picture of Christie hugging Ken? Seriously. There needs to be a velvet painting done of this hug.
  6:48pm david:

sweat + the worst possible "sea-breeze" scented deodorant...
  6:48pm Matt from Springfield:

The Smell Perp Lineup!
  6:49pm Danne D:

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooh That Smell
Can't ya smell that smell?
  6:49pm Observer:

Ken would pay the whole marathon fundraising total to eradicate every last photo of that meeting :-)
  6:49pm wendy del formaggio:

kata, I was at that show! I think I was 13, too. 1974?
  6:49pm BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

...but not glad to smell him.
  6:50pm Matt from Springfield:

Brownie--Onion article gone real!!! That was scary!
  6:50pm Obama:

  6:51pm kata:

guys - if I buy a t-shirt, does that help ? I get paid tomorrow, will probably be able to help... Bring out old shirts to sell if you have them please..
  6:51pm BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Cthulhu/Dagon 2012
  6:51pm BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Ooh...even better. The math answer was SIX SIX SIX!!!
  6:52pm Danne D:

I now have 2 holy grail pictures:

1) A picture of my brother when he was like 12 or so before his orthodonture was done wearing a purple dress shirt circa 1972.

2) Christie hugging Ken.
  6:52pm kata:

@Wendy -- yup, it was march 18, 1988. my friend and I won tickets on the radio on a snow day from school. Changed my life forever. 1974 representing !!
  6:53pm Matt from Springfield:

Virginia Is For DUSTY Lovers!! :D
  6:53pm BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

@Danne: What about a photo of Norman Rockwell beating a child?
  6:54pm Unctuous Rancid Dwarfman:

Dusty: Play some Starcastle!
  6:54pm Obama:

You just aint gettin it, Ken. I'm too cool to fight. I'll make a lovely corpse (politically speaking).
  6:55pm LovelySquid:

I love Candidate Obama. It's President Obama I can't stand.
  6:55pm sFrances:

Getting out the vote in VA & the love for WFMU & the donations! (Unemployed, gave what i could a couple weeks ago)
  6:55pm Mary Wing:

@kata, old WFMU T-shirts can be bought here:
  6:56pm Bill C.:

Hillary in 2016. Ya heard.
  6:56pm ?:

Obama's mother work for USAID in Indonesia in the 60's - put it together...
  6:56pm Greg from VA:

The Ken and Dusty Show ... when is the new time slot?
  6:57pm Bloomturd:

All you losers listen to me. No Romney. No bigass soda.

That is all.
  6:57pm sFrances:

I had the creepiest donald trump nightmare last night!!
  6:57pm Ike:

O completely gave up the fear of looking like an "angry black man" in the second debate. The bigger downside was continuing to look like a pathetic wuss, so he went angry, and it worked.
  6:57pm kata:

ah, thanks so much Mary Wing !!! :)
  6:57pm moss:

on the media rules
  6:57pm other david:

You know, if WFMU was just Clay & Ken 24/7, I'd listen just as much and donate just as much.
  6:57pm kathleen in chicago:

Radiolab? More like radiobarf. I hate that show.
  6:57pm moss:

can't stand radiolab editing
  6:58pm Pundit:

Someone from Kenya normally wins.

You weren't asking about the marathon? Sorry, no prob. Goes for the election, too.
  6:58pm david:

90.1 transmitter is on... but not broadcasting? confused
  6:58pm Unctuous Rancid Dwarfman:

C'mon Dusty, say "shit" on the air!
  6:59pm kathleen in chicago:

I hate how anytime Radiolab approaches anything remotely technical they couch the story in all this "Well whaddya know! There's this crazy goofy sciencey stuff that we just don't understand! Haw haw! Those crazy scientists know such crazy things, we'll never be able to understand! Science is hard!"
  7:00pm kathleen in chicago:

Then there was that show they did on the Yellow Rain in the Laotian jungle - the one that made them famous for being excrably racist?
  7:00pm wendy del formaggio:

Kata, word up! I liked INXS just fine back then, but I found John Lydon to be mesmerizing.
  7:00pm sFrances:

Clay's editing is organic!
  7:00pm kathleen in chicago:

The dusty show is really right on tho. I give it my full endorsement.
  7:01pm Greg from VA:

Clay, play some Bloodrock to send Ken off.
  7:01pm other david:

Clay, you're awesome. Accept it :)

Ken, you're awesome and insane. I hope you know this.
  7:01pm kathleen in chicago:

  7:02pm Matt from Springfield:

@david: The telephone connections (which deliver radio signals to their transmitters) are still down in that area; the electricity has been restored.
  7:02pm Pundit:

Reagan's FCC chair got rid of the fairness doctrine and other regs in order to give broadcasters MORE FREEDOM.

After 1988, culturally conservative Republicans and wannabe "moderate/triangulating" Dems like Clinton thought a proactive FCC played better to conformist middle America.
  7:03pm Greg from VA:

Ann Arbor never recovered after Ken left, ... John Sinclair still gets wet eyed about the loss.
  7:03pm Matt from Springfield:

@Ken: But what about your only friend Andy? ;)
  7:04pm Mary Wing:

Woo, Clay's show is at 90%! Keep pledging, Dusty fans!
  7:05pm Ike:

Has the 91.1 transmitter suffered any actual structural damage? Or is it just a power loss issue?
  7:05pm kathleen in chicago:

Ken on the bike in Hoboken is definitely the best photo to come out of Sandy media coverage so far. I get all verklempt just picturing it in my mind.
  7:06pm Unctuous Rancid Dwarfman:

  7:06pm seang:

yeah that photo is awesome
  7:07pm channeling Mark Halperin:

Nate Silver is whack, Jack. There are three outcomes here and two of them are bad for Obama: You're gonna have a narrow Romney win or a landslide Romney win or a narrow Obama win. But you're not gonna have an Obama landslide. Bzzzt. Thanks for playing.
  7:07pm Ajax:

That Ken interview was so good. Thanks!
  7:08pm BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

@Ike: I think it might be an issue of water damage more than power loss. I could be wrong though (and sometimes am).
  7:08pm Unctuous Rancid Dwarfman:

link to the pic please?
  7:10pm Mary Wing:

  7:10pm kathleen in chicago:

  7:10pm sFrances:

Ok,i i just ordered a Bird Splatter tshirt ! My 4th WFMU shirt. :)
  7:11pm kathleen in chicago:

Landslide Romney is a possibility? Source?
  7:11pm Unctuous Rancid Dwarfman:

@ Mary: thanks
@kathleen: sorry, i don't do disgracebook.
  7:11pm kata:

I would like to design a WFMU tshirt. Will add to my list of projects.
  7:12pm Greg from VA:

Clay brought out sone interesting inner Ken things during the show ... amazing how he has that mystical mojo, which pops out on those on the street interviews.
  7:12pm georgie girl:

This is my new favorite song!!!!
  7:13pm Kate:

2 hours with Clay! AND no Night People to turn off (I listen to WFMU to get away from clueless fratboy types)!!! Even H. Sandy has its good side.
  7:14pm Greg from VA:

When is Matt from Springfield going to get his own FMU show?
  7:15pm Matt from Springfield:

@Clay: Applejack can't stay with us -- crack killed Applejack... :(
  7:15pm BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I thought this was John Parr's "Naughty, Naughty" at first.
  7:16pm channeling Mark Halperin:

EC landslide is possible. Wisconsin is 49-49 (should have been D+5to10). Iowa is 1 point Romney today in Rasmussen. RCP national polling average is 47 to 47.

And anyone in politics will tell you the undecideds on the Friday before the election always go overwhelmingly to the challenger on Tuesday.

If the incumbent is not at 51, the incumbent is a dead man walking. That's political science, not rooting or wishful thinking.
  7:16pm Dave in PA:

This is delightfully horrible.
  7:17pm Matt from Springfield:

@Greg: WFMU would have to have 10 or more streams, then maybe I could throw something together without too much pressure!

Danne should probably get a show, but he's reluctant! He once said that he's afraid he might be "drafted" to co-host a Marathon show while volunteering! :)
  7:18pm Greg from VA:

How can anyone be undecided in the election at this point? I sometimes think people say they are just to get attention.
  7:19pm Dave in PA:

na na na na 19
  7:19pm david:

that general kane sounded a bit like Cameo...
  7:19pm kata:

I think the undecided's are bullshit too.
  7:20pm Ike:

This track is great!
  7:20pm Caryn:

@Greg: yep. I mean, sheesh, it's essentially been 2 YEARS of campaigning at this point, and you still can't make up your mind who to vote for? Come on!
  7:20pm Unctuous Rancid Dwarfman:

i was undecided until i decided
  7:21pm Some Listener:

I think statistics is a better science than political science.
  7:21pm Timb:

Hardcastle! Thanks Clay!
  7:21pm Matt from Springfield:

This is a good Paul Hardcastle one.
  7:21pm kata:

I have to say, it is so great listening to Clay's show from my couch at home instead of from that ridiculous office I spend half my life at...
  7:21pm justin in nj:

I just got my 'lectric back. Clay. Have you been at the station since monday?
  7:21pm Greg from VA:

@Matt from Springfield: Well, if the not so now silent marathon is a success and the record fair is rescheduled, not to mention some FEMA money appears, 10 more streams of FMU could be a welcomed reality! One day me hopes.
  7:22pm channeling Mark Halperin:

What "undecided" means four days before an election is "I can't vote for the goddam incumbent, but I am not sure that the other person will be that great. Fuck!" Those people always either grit their teeth and vote challenger, or else stay home.

Incumbent is therefore *dead* if under 51% in the last few days leading up to the actual election. That's been well known in politics for 30-40 years.
  7:22pm other david:

Voter apathy will be the big decider. As per the last dozen or so years.
  7:22pm Mike S.:

Clay, GREAT to hear you, considering. Hope all you friends & all are ok, too. I sent 2 pledges; forgot to get the T-shirt, so you benifitted from my declining mental capacity. Got to go, have a good show! MAS
  7:22pm Timb:

Micro Chip League - New York New York is a good one too
  7:23pm Tucholsky:

Soldiers are murderers.
  7:23pm channeling Mark Halperin:

Political science includes understanding polling, which is statistics accumulated and analyzed over many election cycles.

Not blogging and sloganeering. That's sales/rhetoric. Polling.
  7:23pm Unctuous Rancid Dwarfman:

but are murderers soldiers?
  7:24pm Matt from Springfield:

  7:25pm Scott W:

Ike, there was no apparent water damage at the WO tx site. Not sure yet about structural damage or residual effects of the power loss. our engineer is keeping an eye on it
  7:25pm Timb:

This is amazing.
  7:25pm Mike S.:

  7:26pm Matt from Springfield:

In fact, "Surfer Joe" was the original A-side I think. "Wipe Out"s immense popularity had most radio stations and jukeboxes flip it over, the re-christened A-side.

The Surfaris had songs with lame lyrics, didn't figure out that maybe instrumentals were the way to go for surf rock! ;)
  7:26pm Chinchilla:

Ohhh Ken-Clay duo. Such golden moments.
  7:26pm Matt from Springfield:

GREAT spontaneous Trashmen performance!
Great "hand percussion" you have as well, Clay!
  7:27pm beafdog:

aw man I sympathize about all the hard work that lies ahead. but the last couple days have been incredible radio. I love you guys.
  7:27pm Caryn:

I want a full version of that during next year's Hoof & Mouth!
  7:28pm Greg from VA:

I am an undecided surfer, but this song is helping me immensely!
  7:28pm Matt from Springfield:

Thanks for the updates Scott. We're all pulling for you.
  7:28pm david:

I like the Safaris' singing!
  7:28pm disastrogirl:

My mom had this 45. I loved it as a kid.
  7:29pm Mike Love:

Great name I got, huh?
  7:29pm david:

or Surfaris, whichever...
  7:29pm Romney:

Ken as station manager tell Clay to never play that again!
  7:29pm Julie:

Clay finally found someone who will sing with him, since Fabio won't!
  7:29pm Matt from Springfield:

The Beach Boys' first ever single "Surfin" (1961) had stupid lyrics as well, but their amazing close harmonies and arrangements spelled better things to come.

However, "Wipe Out" belongs in the Top 100 songs of Rock History--I can't sing it's praises enough.
  7:30pm Greg from VA:

I once meditated in huge room with Mike Love on a TM course, ... and he snored, ... in a melodic way too.
  7:30pm G:

Clay made his goal! :-)

UP IT AGAIN!!!!!!!
  7:31pm Matt from Springfield:

@david: I sometimes make the same mistake :)
His voice is a little "thin", but the singer might have grown into it. The band just never wrote good lyrics!
  7:31pm moss:

the first time i heard nirvana is when ken played it
  7:31pm Unctuous Rancid Dwarfman:

Courtney love DID kill curt cobain!
  7:32pm Caryn:

Yay, wagging tail!
  7:32pm Matt from Springfield:

@Greg: Wow! Did you take Brian's or Carl's harmony place then? Could've made a harmonious snore... :)
  7:32pm Mike S.:

Up it? Christ in a Sidecar!!! : )
  7:32pm Mike Love:

Courtney Love is the only Love more deadly than me!!!!!
  7:32pm Chinchilla:

woa, woa, did Clay just drop an 'S' bomb? "Blankin' s#@!" ?
  7:32pm Unctuous Rancid Dwarfman:

i remember when the tail wagged on Ken's show the other day. it was a special moment. i think Ken cried.
  7:33pm david:

Why is there no 5.1 surround sound radio?
  7:34pm Greg from VA:

@MATT: No, I snore more like Iggy sings, just was not surf enough to fit in.
  7:34pm Droll:

Quad eventually became "Surround Sound" and did catch on. Nevertheless, my headphone still have just two cans.
  7:34pm david:

I like AM static too.
  7:34pm kata:

Ken are you a prepper ?
  7:34pm other david:

Don't worry, if I win the euromillions lottery tomorrow night, I'll sort an AM band station and buy a WBCQ transmitter to repeat FMU :)
  7:34pm Ike:

AM radio is on the way out, slowly. And apparently they cost a lot to operate. Very high power bills.
  7:35pm G:

They used to talk about AM Stereo back in the 80s, after they realized FM killed off AM music. Then AM went all talk during the 80s, and they dropped the "stereo" BS.
  7:35pm Greg from VA:

@Caryn; Wow, and I thought I was the only one with a tail that waged, which may mean, it's a qualifier in being a Dusty fan?
  7:35pm Unctuous Rancid Dwarfman:

Ken, that little Grundig radio kicks a$$. i have the same one. it has surprisingly good reception.
  7:37pm Caryn:

Aw, we're down to 60 % again... Pledge more, people!
  7:37pm david:

there is a revived hosted horror show on one of my hometown TV stations... it's pretty great...
  7:38pm Matt from Springfield:

I don't like Casey Kasem's "American Top 40", but I would LOVE it IF he did that show in his "Shaggy" voice from Scooby Doo!

"Yeah, like, in Number 8 this week we have a band from Champaign, Illinois. Zoinks!!"
  7:39pm Greg from VA:

Ken, I remember the Ghoul in Detroit, my favorite Ghoul moment was when he made brownies on TV, and after putting in pickles, hot dogs and rustoleum, he painted his knees in the brown muck and and told the kids, ... "See—Brown Knees!"
  7:39pm moss:

i had the jingle for 'CD 101.9' stuck in my head the other day
  7:39pm BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

The syndicated network Me-TV has a horror host named Svengoolie.
  7:39pm G:

@Caryn: Ken was gonna raise his Clay's goal from 1800 to 1900, and Clay said go for 3000. The real goal is to make the rest of the station's annual budget.
  7:39pm david:

Smooth jazz is already coming back in my book...
  7:40pm amEdeo:

Hahaha. I have a great tape of old horror movie trailers and clips that's hosted by Zacherley (the host from "Chiller Theatre"). 4D Man... The Indestructible Man... Attack Of The Killer Shrews...
  7:40pm Caryn:

@G: I know, but I just enjoy seeing that wagging tail. And I'm hoping drawing people's attention to the new goal makes them pledge.
  7:41pm Julie:

I ran those shows (eek)
  7:42pm david:

Acapulco Rodriguez is the Dali, methinks...
  7:43pm G:

The tailwag is the orgasm. There's all that foreplay to get there :-P

99+% of life is anticipation...
  7:43pm Patrick:

kenny g war stories, i love it!! Cheryl is a sweetheart though!
  7:43pm Matt from Springfield:

Kenny G's too finicky and particular--and possibly sociopathic, since he likes to irritate the radio audience! But..that's how he was able to do such a strange show!
  7:44pm Julie:

Kenny was never anything but very nice to me :)
  7:44pm Matt from Springfield:

You had like 12 margaritas that night, Ken!
  7:45pm moos:

ken's drunk voice was the drunkest drunk voice
  7:45pm david:

i'm waiting for the archive of the latest clay/julie hurricane survival show...
  7:46pm Matt from Springfield:

You're welcome! :)
  7:46pm BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

They re-aired the "Drunk Ken" 7SD back in June. I was at the station getting swag ready to be mailed while it was playing.
  7:47pm Matt from Springfield:

"You hate sala manders. WHY??!"
"This is seriously... the last time... you two are going to be abailible to be seen... b'fore the end of... Munk..."
"You dont belibe in the Bible! WHY?!"
"So much CRAP!"
  7:47pm G:

@Matt: There's just no limit to what you can create, as long as you don't care whether people don't get it, or like it...
  7:47pm Dave in PA:

AvPD ?
  7:48pm other david:

Avoidant Personality Disorder <3
  7:49pm BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Alien vs. Predator Drone???
  7:50pm Dave in PA:

Gremlin X wow Clay
  7:51pm Charlie Chuck Chuckles:

Ken, you spent some time a WCTC... do you remember a crotchety talk host named Bruce Williams?
  7:53pm kevin:

clay is a better listener than my therapist
  7:53pm dpcd:

Ken, let the Dusty therapist in. He once took my call and in two sentences advised me to loosen up and go dancing. The next night i found myself at my daughter's kindergarten social, which was a difficult (for me) event with a DJ and loud music. I did what he suggested and it turned out okay. How did Dusty know? If I'd even guessed there would be dancing there, i would have made an excuse...
  7:53pm G:

Clay does sound sorry for himself and self-critical, sometimes. That's in the vicinity of whiny now and then :-)
  7:54pm david:

Clay should start an updated Armand DeMele style show
  7:54pm Ike:

Ramp-wise, isn't "stepping on it" also called "hitting the post?"
  7:55pm Patrick:

hey ken since your talking shop spill the beans about the old codger....
  7:55pm Caryn:

Hmm, Ken's story makes me wonder if one of the scouts who were in the 7SD episode will wind up working for WFMU one day? Or were Ken & Andy the opposite of the encouraging, intriguing DJ, and scared them away from radio work forever?
  7:56pm Matt from Springfield:

@DPCD: He was starting out by helping with your "Depressed" part! Now we just need to work on the "Persian Cab Driver" part... ;)
  7:56pm G:

stepping on it means going past hitting the post and making vocal noises after the vocal has started
  7:56pm BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

@Ike: I think it might be one of those regional things. In the South I've always heard it referred to as "hitting the post" too.
  7:56pm Greg from VA:

I need to go walk the dog, he keeps looking at me, ...but I can't leave the show, .... hang on Kelsey!
  7:56pm sFrances from VA:

my dad died when i was 8, sorry, i was chopping parsnips while y'all were talking
  7:56pm other david:

The last two hours have gone far too quickly. Thanks for existing, WFMU.. Ken & Clay.
  7:56pm seang:

michael shelley does the ramp really well
  7:56pm Julie:

oh great, twin head injuries
  7:56pm G:

What beans are there to spill, Patrick? It's obviously Irwin.
  7:57pm BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I thought Kenny G was the Old Codger.
  7:57pm Matt from Springfield:

Wow, non-stop Clay!!
  7:57pm Ike:

@G, oops, you're right, now I remember -- "hitting the post" is talking RIGHT UP to the vocals but not over them.
  7:58pm other david:

Damnit bursting out laughing here
  7:58pm Mary Wing:

Wooo, 80% - Clay & Ken are RADIO GOLD!
  7:58pm dpcd:

It really happened. My kid and her new friends continue to help me be less depressed.
My cab is no more... alas, Matt!
  7:59pm Dave in PA:

Greater than Studs Terkel, even
  7:59pm Keira:

Lost my dad when I was 12. I go back and listen to Ken's show in tribute to his dad. Think they died the same day about 30 years apart so the timing on that show fit my own annual grieving season. Love hearing you two together.
  8:00pm Matt from Springfield:

Always Remember!
  8:00pm Greg from VA:

It's Clay Day, one can always count on the audio boddhisattva during needy times.
  8:00pm other david:

Love you all, listeners & dj's alike.
  8:01pm Matt from Springfield:

@BGZ: Well, that's a whole 'nother in-joke, but...there's a recurring joke where we say that Kenny G is really a "character" of Irwin, because they have a similar tone!
  8:02pm seang:

kenny G teaches uncreative writing at UPENN
  8:09pm BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

@Matt: I was broke when the in-joke glossary was a marathon premium. *HA!*
  10:26pm sFrances:

  10:34pm sFrances:

Thanks for a lovely soundtrack to curl up & read to. IPad being both book & radio in the dark. ;)
