Live Performance by The Universal Thump (Greta Gertler, Adam Gold, Ben Campbell, Barney McAll)

Creating a concept album of orchestral pop is Greta Gertler's latest musical venture. Greta and percussionist Adam Gold formed The Universal Thump, combining the work of over 60 exceptional musicians. As they describe it, "the catalytic inspiration for this record (and later its unifying tale) was a whale-watching expedition for two, that took the co-producers (Adam and Greta) to Maritime Canada in mid 2008 (elaborated in the impressionistic “To The Border”)." The Unversal Thump band sailed across the Hudson River from Brooklyn to play live in WFMU's Love Room.

Huh? I was zoning out and all a sudden heard my name as being somewhat close to...where? I'm guessing Thomas, WV for their tour stop there? That actually appears to be not all that far away.

Toy piano - always reminds me of Eliza Rickman :)

Great set guys!
  2:33pm Van in DC:

That guitar work by Bruce Kaphan in your talkover music...it sure did remind me of someone...I think it was Robert Fripp's work on David Sylvian's Gone To Earth double album. Probably just me though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm Irene:

You could be right, Van. There may be a slight influence but I think Bruce stands nicely on his own. Bruce did some very nice atmospheric work on a lot of American Music Club albums. That's where I first took notice. He now has a nice jazz combo (I may play something from that to contrast if I have time.
  2:39pm Van in DC:

Yay Clare :)
  2:54pm Van in DC:

Hmm. this time, the guitar is not like Fripp at ALL.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm Irene:

Yes, a bit more straight-ahead jazz.
  2:58pm Van in DC:
