Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

I had passed this box on several previous weekends, noting that it contained a lot of reggae-oriented stuff and that's generally not my bag, but I delved into finally, and I'm really glad I did. I may go back for more. Good kind-of-obscure Brooklyn stuff for the most part.

And so ... another Dusty Show is in the can. Thank you for checking it out. As I am typing this, we are in the midst of a month-long Silent Fundraiser at FMU. It is not one that we are talking about on the air (sa as NOT to bother you!). That said, I could really use your support if you can make a pledge.

Last week after the Triumvirate Reunion and Duel with Fabio and Julie, I did very well with pledges. This week, on my own and dealing mainly with politics, I did poorly. Only a 2% 'bump'.

I suppose the larger question is whether or not the listeners are interested in politics and the coverage I try to do pretty frequently. I can certainly understand that you are probably inundated with political coverage on the media right now with the election approaching. I sometimes wrongly assume that everyone shares my obsession and addiction to politics, which of course, many do not. I really enjoy talking about it, but perhaps I am overdoing it and losing some of you. I would be interested to know your opinions. It would be much easier for me to go 'live' and play records or take phone calls, but it wouldn't be as satisfying for me. With the new schedule coming up, I am trying to decide whether or not to ask for a renewal of the program. Again, your input would be most appreciated concerning what you like and don't like about The Dusty Show. I look forward to hearing from you.

Until next time, enjoy the fall, attend WFMU's Record Fair, and may you find much happiness and fulfillment in all you do. I appreciate your continued support and loyalty. 7 years on ... still Dustyfying. Thanks!!! Take care and ...

Always Remember ...

Hiya Clay!

Hi kata and Dustyfans™!

howdy Matt !

Hi Matt and Kata
  6:05pm Matt from Springfield:

2003? This is good, has an 80s-reggae vibe to it.
  6:06pm Fredericks:

Hey, Duster and fellow Dusters.
Avatar 6:06pm Clay:

Thanks Matt. Found a box of Brooklyn rock steady stuff from that era.
  6:06pm Scott S.:

What was the name of the last artist, I missed it
Avatar 6:06pm Clay:

Fredericks! Good to see you.
  6:06pm kata:

I have to admit, most of me assumes Obama will win again, but i realized the other day, it could indeed go to Romney, a frightening prospect.
  6:07pm Matt from Springfield:

Haha! Cheap Black & Tan cigars! I used to smoke those in college!
  6:07pm Fredericks:

No wait, we're Dustees

Dedustees of this show.
  6:11pm Fredericks:

Clayton! Matthew! Kata! Scott S.!
Avatar 6:12pm Clay:

Hope you guys check out Fredericks "Mind Thing" podcast. Good stuff.
  6:13pm Matt from Springfield:

@kata: It's likier to go to Obama, but we can't predict the future. Yogi Berra's seemingly simple, yet profound quote: "It ain't over, till it's over". Especially so with football, and with this election as well.
  6:15pm Timb:

Hi Clay! Timb here enjoying the show from Fort Lauderdale.
  6:15pm Matt from Springfield:

This (1980) one is so typical of the era, it's hard to tell whether this is an original from the era, or one of those "WTNG" recordings from this year!
  6:16pm david:

unfortunately not much help for immuno-related pain management outside of MSM press releases and pharmaceutical commercials...
Avatar 6:16pm Clay:

Silent Fundraiser in effect. Last week was great with the Powerduel and Triumvirate reunion. This week ... with politics ... hmm, going kind of slow. I can't ignore the election after all the Obaaammmaaaaa I've done since who knows when. Anyway ... pledge ahoy! Otherwise, glad 2cu! Timb in Lauderdale. Marilyn Manson country. Saigon Kick!
Avatar 6:17pm Clay:

David. Always welcome on the board!
  6:19pm seang:

Hello folks. A vote for Romney or Obama is just reinforcing the status quo and I say bollocks to that! Real progressives need to risk defeat cause Democrats just keeping moving to the right
Avatar 6:20pm Clay:

Hot dang, Seang, thanks for checking in.
  6:21pm Night Al:

Vegging out in the LaZ Boy... slacking on my IM's this week. Still voting for Jill Stein regardless. She and her VP Cheri Honkala was arrested outside the debate trying to get in. That's my candidate!
  6:23pm Matt from Springfield:

"Psychotherapy"! I have this one of Melanie's on vinyl.
  6:25pm Night Al:

So many Romney supporters! The American masses are ASSES!
  6:25pm seang:

I wanna marry this girl
  6:27pm Matt from Springfield:

There you go! Fool around, girl!
  6:27pm david:

popsicles, icicles... such a trippy song... and I use that word with all WFMU-induced advisement :)
  6:28pm kata:

what a great song ! *popsicles*
  6:29pm Dave in PA:

Clay - how do you get your interview voice to sound so effing deliciously creepy - cheap analog tape recorder?
Avatar 6:29pm Clay:

It is a great song. Well-produced by Kim Fowley of Runaways fame.
  6:30pm Matt from Springfield:

@Night Al: Now, you'll never persuade people that way. I'm frustrated that people support Romney (and many worse than him). But most Americans are just doing what's in line with their values. Introducing new values into their calculus is how you change. Not short or easy, but we're on a constant search for wisdom.
Avatar 6:30pm Clay:

Dave in PA - Micro-cassette recorder.
  6:30pm kata:

oh, wow, I didn't know Candy was getting raked over the coals. I guess if you can't speak to the strength of your candidate, grasp for straws !

  6:31pm Matt from Springfield:

Fear Of A Black *White* House
Avatar 6:32pm Clay:

Dave - a discontinued Radio Shack model I have to get from the one warehouse that is liquidating them. Hard to saty analog on Dusty. I'm trying!
Avatar 6:33pm Clay:

  6:33pm Matt from Springfield:

@kata: I learned about that on the Net yesterday. I didn't think anything of it, because I see Mitt as a liar. He said something not factually true, and the moderator said that wasn't factually true. Those in denial of Rmoney being a liar probably reacted out of fear.
  6:35pm dale:

listening in the valley...
  6:35pm Dave in PA:

eBay is a good place to get stuff like that, surprisingly
  6:35pm kata:

@matt - true, he constantly lies, and not very convincingly either, he looks and sounds like he's reading a script. Which of course, he is.
Avatar 6:35pm Clay:

thanks for thew 1% pledge! I'm up from 52!
  6:35pm Matt from Springfield:

Vintage political ads!
Try to find some from the 60s or so, with those really old school announcers like in the "Daisy" ad.
  6:36pm Night Al:

The 2 party system is a crime. Obama signed the NDAA. He supports the continued drain-off of American jobs by supporting NAFTA, WTO, and now TPP. He let the BP oil volcano spew for months while BP experimented with solutions. Americans don't use their brains to make an educated decision. They vote with the herd they run with while watching Honey Boo-Boo.
  6:36pm david:

I believe Sony still has some decent cassette recorders on the market...
Avatar 6:36pm Clay:

Dale. Good to see you. Just atouch of flurries last weekend in Margaretville. Love it! Bring it!
Avatar 6:37pm Clay:

I stick with the Shack, David. Same model since 1998.
  6:37pm Dave in PA:

Matt F.S. - Ken Nordine would be tha bomb
  6:38pm Matt from Springfield:

Amen, brother!!
  6:39pm Dave in PA:

machiavelli name drop
Avatar 6:39pm Clay:

He was a good guy, Matt.
  6:39pm dale:

coldest i ever experienced was minus thirteen one night up there. went outside, inhaled and my nostrils stuck together - went back inside quick!
  6:39pm Timb:

Wow, you met a real Christian. That's super rare.
  6:39pm Night Al:

God is an asteroid heading for a collision with the Earth.
  6:40pm Dave in PA:

I did -40 (which incidentally is the same temp in F and C) in MN back in thelate 1990's - very cool experience!
  6:40pm kata:

  6:42pm dale:

now that's cold.
  6:42pm Matt from Springfield:

Thanks for the scientific factoid, Dave! I like people to point that out!
Avatar 6:44pm Clay:

Hoping I can fit all of this show into the hour. Might be a bit too long. :>(
  6:44pm Dave in PA:

and this was actual temp, wind chills were in the -70's
  6:44pm Matt from Springfield:

@Night Al: So...do we play Aerosmith and send Bruce Willis up to God? ;)

@dale: I saw your goth chef wife and Dusty caller, hope that appearance gives her some fame and exposure!
  6:45pm Night Al:

We had a cold front just blow through the Tampa Bay area...got it down to 85 with only a 61% humidity.
  6:45pm Dave in PA:

MN folks are unbelievably friendly; I got taken back home by a bud driver who was just going off shift and drove me home in his personal car - folks in the midwest are way different than on the coasts..
  6:46pm dale:

thanks man! i think the repeat is on tonight at 7. i can't believe she went 'wah waaahhhh' when she got chopped. funny kid.
  6:46pm david:

"company... uh, country" - that's called a fascist Freudian slip
  6:46pm Matt from Springfield:

"Run the *company* well"!
  6:47pm Dave in PA:

bus driver, not bud driver (whatever interesting images that conjures)
  6:47pm the glowing one:

country =/= company
  6:47pm dale:

pump up the focus in the bkgrnd, clay!!!
  6:47pm david:

Dusty Show = the true no-spin zone
Avatar 6:48pm Clay:

Good ear, Dale. I just heard an abhorrently bad edit, too. Slays me.
Avatar 6:48pm Clay:

Thanks, David.
  6:48pm Night Al:

@Matt stopping an asteroid should be the one and only task the worlds governments should be working on. That and weather satellites.
  6:49pm Matt from Springfield:

@dale: That was a good finish! I also learned about "sea beans" and how they can be used to naturally salt a dish.
  6:49pm david:

"driven in that Martha Stewart kind of crazy way." indeed!
  6:50pm Matt from Springfield:

YEAH david!!!
  6:51pm Matt from Springfield:

And YAY 70s Kitsch, Clay!!
A clavinet-heavy song about Pet Rocks!
  6:52pm Night Al:

Take my IQ test everyone.... What do you think is most likely? That a omnipotent being created the entire universe, or that a communicative civilization exists in said universe? Then I'll know whom I'm dealing with.
  6:52pm dale:

i never heard of sea beans, never saw them in the shoprite, which is no surprise reaally
Avatar 6:53pm Clay:

I'll do a preemptive farewell here. Night People cometh. Thanks for listening everyone. Please pledge if you can. I really appreciate your listening. Onward into the future! CP Always remember.
  6:53pm david:

Keystone, Spectra... tarsands, fracking...
  6:54pm the glowing one:

Thanks for the show, Clay.
  6:54pm Matt from Springfield:

Tommy James may have coined "tree hugging", with a positive emphasis, in "Draggin' The Line":

"Loving that free and giving spirit / HUGGING A TREE when you get near it"!!
  6:54pm kata:

good night Clay and sausages !
Avatar 6:55pm Clay:

TY Glowing :>)
Avatar 6:55pm Clay:

Night Kata. Yeah ... this show is "binder"-free.
  6:56pm kata:

heh heh
  6:57pm Fredericks:

Fracking Frackers.
  6:57pm Alec:

Hey Clay! Great Show!
  6:57pm Matt from Springfield:

The Dusty Show always delivers! Thanks Clay for your quality delivery!

Have a good night Dustyfolk! Reflect, then remember!
  6:58pm david:

I have a colliquial relationship with my three-hole puncher...
  6:58pm Matt from Springfield:

@kata: Tell your female friends to listen in and comment! Wurst are an issue across most FMU shows! ;)
