@FVH: "Hot Child in the City" would fit into this theme, not sure if Meghan brought it. Evan "Funk" Davies on the other hand definitely would not miss and opportunity to play Nick Gilder!

one of my favourite parts of my week is when my computer flashes up a little alarm saying 'underwater theme park is on'. Hello everyone. I've just recently moved from the city (Manchester) to the country (County Durham) in England, it's horrible, tho I have taken up Rambling and started writing my long-awaited [by no-one] second book. 20,000 words out of 50,000 in 2 weeks! I'd never have done that in Manchester, there's too many gigs going on and pubs that need drinking dry.
  6:16am
Dave B:

I'm tellin ya Meghan, talk to KenzoDB about how to query what songs have been played
  6:17am
Dave E.:

What about Seven Cities Of Gold . . . . byRush, tee hee.
  6:18am
Matt from Springfield:

That's great Groucho! You can always go back to visit Manchester, but that's better for writing without distraction.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18am
Meghan:

Kenzo is currently working on changing the whole system.... so maybe it'll be in there. I can do a search under search on the main page.

awwww, I love that you have your computer trained to tune me in Groucho! Too great!

Omigerd the show's gonna overshoot Hallowe'en by just a day :-/

Matt from Springfield:

Rockabilly in the Commonwealth! I want to get that now, I'd be interested in hearing how we took on rockabilly around these parts.
  6:20am
Dave B:

@FVH - maybe a "candy" theme?
  6:20am
Dave E.:

The City Vs. The Country
In the city where the colours run dry,
Or in the country where the farmers grow rye.
In the city where there are fees,
Or in the country where beauty is free.
In the city where there are loud crowds,
Or in the country where you can watch clouds.
In the city where you camp out in your room,
Or in the country where you have fun dancing with a broom.
In the city where there are polluting cars,
Or in the county where you can see stars.
In the city where you seal the deal,
Or in the country where you can heal.
In the city where you say later,
Or in the country where you can see the water.
In the city where space is tight,
Or in the country where you hold their hand in the moonlight.

Hello Gang !
Hello Chief Meghan !
  6:27am
Matt from Springfield:

I love classic Dylan, and this is the 3rd old Dylan one I've heard on WFMU in the last 3 days! A cosmic confluence across many DJs!

Kaminsky played "Gates of Eden", Amanda played "All That I Really Wanna Do", and now you play "Girl from the North Country"! ALL web-only shows too, I just realized...!
  6:29am

Good morning Andrea! Wow, Joshua K.... long time mate!

Pierre you were in my dream last night! We were hanging art work and talking about records....
  6:32am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Good morning, Meghan! Hi Matt!

Many years ago I was in a Revolting Cocks video and Al Jourgensen and I talked about starting a Canned Heat tribute band. 'Cause why not? We'd totally have had the Canned Heat demographic locked down. :D

Can't go wrong with this configuration of Zappa's band
  6:37am
Dave:

"Boys in the City" by NRBQ, off the album Scraps, fits the theme perfectly, plus, it's a fantastic song. You're welcome.
  6:38am
Matt from Springfield:

Sheik Yerbouti! Good Zappa album and lineup indeed.
  6:38am
pierre:

@Meghan : i feel flattered ! I too, quite often dream about WFMU. Do you remember what recors we were talking about ? Hanging art work, is a great opportunity to talk about record :)

  6:39am
Dave E.:

I flattened your cat
Seems a guy was driving for hours thu desolate country when he passed a farmhouse, and before he could react, a cat ran out in front of him and splat... he flattened the cat. Out of kindness and consideration, he stopped, turned around and drove back to the farmhouse to notify the occupants. When the housewife came to the door, said he, "Pardon me madame, but I just ran over a cat in front of your house, and assumed that it must belong to you. I know this might be hard to hear, but I wanted to let you know instead of just driving off."
"Not so fast", says she. "How do you know it was our cat? Could you describe him? What does he look like?"
The man promptly flopped down on the ground, and said "He looks like this" as he gave his best shot at a dead cat impression.
"Oh no, you horrible man", she replied. "I meant, what did he look like before you hit him?"
At that, the man got up, covered his eyes with both hands and screamed"Agggghhhhhhhhhh !!!!!!"
  6:39am
Dave B:

How many Dave's do we have here?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40am
Meghan:

I had some Chameleons box set..... (which I don't) and I can't recall what the other ones were. Tom Sharpling was there too..... but briefly
  6:40am
Dave:

Too many. I propose the name of this show be changed to the Branch Davidians. BTW, I can be "Dave R" from now on to fit the, er, THEME.
  6:40am
David Letterman:

Not enough.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha...heeeeeeeeeeee. Ooh boy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41am
Meghan:

When I saw you check in to Julie's show it reminded me that you were in my dream.... ha
  6:41am
Dave E.:

Too many Dave's. Mehgan, you should do a theme on "Dave".
  6:42am
Dave B:

Dave's not here
  6:42am
Matt from Springfield:

Ha HA! The Branch Davidians! Yeah, this show and the Dusty Show/Night People are Dave-heavy as well!
  6:43am
Dave E.:

Hey, I resemble that remark.
  6:44am
HAL 9000:

Look Dave, I can see you're really upset about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill, and think things over.
  6:44am
Dave E.:

There once was a man named Dave....
  6:47am
pierre:

@Meghan: Chameleons, cool... I hope Tom Scharpling helped us with the art hanging a little bit.

This night I dreamt that my arm was being eaten by a catfish, who was also being eaten by another catfish, whereas a famous French rapper was helping me getting rid of those.
  6:48am
Groucho:

Northern Industrial Town! perfect!
  6:48am
Matt from Springfield:

Billy Bragg!
This is "town", not "city" -- but since England has the Town & Country Act, town is an acceptable substitution, as long as it's in the UK!
  6:48am
Dave:

That's OK, Meghan. Nobody ever listens to me. I'm just another Dave in the crowd.
  6:49am
Matt from Springfield:

@pierre: Dali like Surrealism for the present! Make a painting out of that!
  6:50am
Dave:

OK. I'll be Da Da Dave.
  6:50am
Matt from Springfield:

Speaking of Tom Scharpling...GREAT tribute to "Ram"! I have this and enjoy it a lot! The original "Ram" was actually an influential album for me in the later high school years.
  6:50am
Dave E.:

Perhaps we should call everyone Dave, to avoid confusion.
  6:51am
Dave B:

Dave
Dave
Dave
Dave
  6:51am
Dave from Springfield:

@Dave E: That would just make sure into the Australian "Bruces" of Monty Python! ;)
  6:51am
Dave:

Aren't we already doing that?
  6:53am
Dave:

I'll catch up with the rest of the show on archive. I have to go kill my parents now. Cheers, Dave
  6:53am
Matt from Springfield:

Joe Jackson! First time hearing this song!
  6:54am
Dave B:

Never Davey.
Thanks
  6:54am
Matt from Springfield:

Cheers, see ya DaDa Dave!
(Whatever you plan to do, just make sure you get a Daily Mail headline out of it!)
  6:55am
Dave E.:

Hey Mehgan - what album is this JJ song from?
  6:55am
Matt from Springfield:

The Sundays!
  6:56am
Dave E.:

On Thursday no less.
  7:00am
Dave B:

Dave E - it was on Big World, but I'm not sure about that version...
  7:01am
Dave E.:

Thankyou Dave B. I wonder if we will get a Dave from every letter in the alphabet?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:02am
Meghan:

Hey there lovely listeners! I love you are loving the music selection- but show that love in a pledge to the station! Show your support for my show and for WFMU!!! Remember, the highest pledger (single pledge) gets to pick out the next theme! and I see there are no TRUE Rush fans..... cause we are no where near the $5000 mark for an all RUSH show......
  7:02am
Dave B:

Big World is REALLY good. He also did it on Summer In The City, whoch is an EXCELLENT album
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:05am
Meghan:

I had it off of Big World.... I listened to that album over and over (on cassette) in my art class in High School
  7:05am

@Meghan : i actually kind of did, but it's not very finished :)

Yes ! That's it noodling !!! Exactly !!

I kind of realise why, now. That movie Okie Noodling is one of my girlfriend favorite movie, and she broke up with me (sorry for the introspection here), i think my brain reminded me of this. But i forgot the name of this.

Okie Doodling ! :)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21am
Meghan:

oh look who's here..... good evening Elwyn!
  7:24am
Elwyn:

@Everyone, glad the working day is over. Stupid boss chewed me out for being late. It's not like it actually makes a difference since I don't work on critical stuff or have meetings to go to.

@Chuck: How's the blaster going? I understand if you're busy working on other things. Paid work comes first.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28am
Meghan:

Ugh, I don't want to go to work. I have my own work to do and I am the only one at work for the next few days. No fun
  7:29am
Chuck:

Hey, Elwyn! Sucks getting bitched at by anyone. That's why I like being self-employed...

Blaster is on hold again. Having a bit of trouble getting sound files onto the Blaste Core card. Do you think I need to get one of those mini data discs?
  7:31am
Dave B:

JJ Grey and Mofro - mofo's!
  7:31am
Chuck:

Think I need to go over the documentation for the card again. I think you need a specific format for the sound files....
  7:33am
Elwyn:

@Meghan: I'm fairly sure you're done a work theme...

@Chuck: you probably need a SD or micro-SD card. They are pretty cheap these days. I kind have too many. I've been procrastinating on my costume because I've messed up repainting the helmet a few times and am apathetic about it right now.

@Evil Brady: we meet again... in the virtual world.
  7:35am
Elwyn:

@Meghan: You could probably do a whole set of Neil! "Are you ready for country?" etc. But you'd also still have "Crime in the City"! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37am
Meghan:

It's too quiet out there..... and I am still not even half way to my goal! I am sad! Please help me make my goal!!!
  7:37am
Dave B:

indeed.

Going mobile. Later, country gators!
  7:37am
Chuck:

Yup, Elwyn. I think I can get a micro-SD for a scant $1.50. I'll see if that works better.

Do you have an air brush for the painting per chance? It's much easier to control a paint up with an air brush...
  7:37am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Neil Young has enough country and city songs that you could probably have filled the entire three hours.
  7:42am
Elwyn:

@Chuck: I have spray cans but I made mistakes like choosing "appliance white" which wasn't as glossy as I wanted. Did things like paint the inside black, touch the inside then outside accidentally but not quite be able to fix it without sanding down again...
I thought the manual says it takes more formats now. I should reread the manual.
  7:45am
fred von helsing:

The Goddess sings a metaphor of nuclear destruction
  7:45am
Chuck:

Elwyn, you can take care of gloss with a clear coat at the end. Touching before paint is dry - Bad Elwyn!

I will be rereading the manual....
  7:46am
Dave B:

You can play this song as many times as possible
  7:46am
Chuck:

Siouxsie! Woohoo!!
  7:48am
Dave B:

This one too
  7:48am
fred von helsing:

This could be confusing. I guess you'd better call me Dave.
  7:48am
Mark in DC:

Just tuning in, great playlist, sorry to be late!
  7:49am

Elwyn:

@Chuck: I think I need to sand back to primer since it's got those orange peel thingy.
  7:55am
groucho:

Ahh The Blurs
  7:55am
Chuck:

Yes, sand, but WET sand! You'll take the bumps out of the paint without removing to much paint. That also sort of shines it up also for the glossiness....
  7:58am
Elwyn:

@Chuck: I've been using wet & dry. There are some annoying areas where that defect has happened and I need to sand down again.
  7:59am
fred von helsing:

misspelling - an extra R
  8:00am
Groucho:

haha Cuntry
  8:01am
Chuck:

That's why I asked about an air brush, Elwyn. Store bougth aerosol cans don't produce a fine enough mist of paint. Air brush can get into small areas with loading it with paint....
  8:03am
Chuck:

Ooops. bought aerosol cans. and without loading it with paint...
  8:04am
ausmanx:

the fratellis spelling reminds me to relate the finest moment in australian political debate... during a discussion in parliament back in the 1970s, an opposition politician was moved to remark "I'm a country member", whereupon (Australia's greatest) Prime Minister Whitlam quickly replied "Yes, I remember". Read it out loud...

Jimmy Sommerville is a great singer, unfortunately his solo stuff is not so great. Poor song choices that don't suit his voice.

According to Wikipedia, John Hughes sent a 7-inch with "Beat City" (and another song from the movie that he owned the rights to) to the people on his fan mailing list. Apparently that's the closest thing to a Ferris Bueller soundtrack.
