Listener comments!

  11:56am Carmichael:

Hello Charlie. I'm busy as all get out, but I'll hang in there with ya this morning.
  12:01pm ndbob:

Heya Charlie, Carmichael, everyone
  12:05pm Michael:

Hiya charlie and carm and bob. Good Thursday to all.
  12:05pm Carmichael:

I remember this song from Bugs Bunny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm charlie:

hi there bob and carmichael! glad you could drop by...
and hiya to michael!
now it's a party
  12:06pm ndbob:

ah from quite an LP:)
  12:07pm ndbob:

the Sauerkraut Band that is.. you can even get sauerkraut pizza around here.
  12:11pm still b/p:

I kicked out the cable from the computer to the stereo when doing a goofy kick dance to the happy Leutarii jam. Sometimes when you're busy doing nothing, there will be damage, or at least disconnection.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm charlie:

nice image there, still b/p! glad the show inspired you to kick out the jams, or something...
  12:14pm Carmichael:

ndbob, is there a hearty Germanic cultural influence up there? I mean, besides Lawrence Welk?
  12:15pm northguineahills:

I just made some pirogis (potato & spinach) w/ a beat/horseradish jam, and of course dried chilis mixed w/ sour cream.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm charlie:

Hi NGH, please share!
  12:17pm northguineahills:

so, my culinary choice goes well w/ your theme, charlie.
  12:17pm jan:

  12:17pm Michael:

Looks forlornly at my yogurt and apples. Although the apples are from a local orchard.
  12:18pm ndbob:

@Carmichael the predominant ethnic groups in North Dakota - particularly here in central North Dakota are - "Germans from Russia" and Norwegians - Welk never spoke much English until he was around 20
  12:18pm still b/p:

Sauerkraut and Canadian bacon was the house special of an Iowa pizza joint I was in a few decades ago, and although I'd never had any 'kraut before, I ate and I liked it...I LIKED it.
  12:19pm Katya Oddio:

Hi, folks! Ears busy doing something else. Be right with you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm charlie:

hi there, Jan and Katya (O)
  12:22pm still b/p:

But, oh, if only it wasn't monochrome sauerkraut...

  12:25pm Carmichael:

I never had kraut until a pastrami sandwich showed up a few years ago. I suppose I like it, but I'm reserving judgement. Now pizza, I live in the land of strange pizza toppings. But I don't want to start an epicurean culture war, so I'll stop right here.
  12:25pm Perri:

Off to an epic start -- love that Goulash for lunch!
  12:26pm Katya Oddio:

Even the most bland canned sauerkraut can be made pleasant by pushing it around in a pan with butter and caraway seeds.
  12:29pm Perri:

Sauerkraut--I've tried it, and... NO. =8-p
  12:31pm ndbob:

I'm not a sauerkraut fan either
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm charlie:

Well Howdy, Perri!
  12:33pm Katya Oddio:

The best ones use no vinegar and rely on fermentation alone. Our grandparent's generation made their own in barrels outside.
  12:34pm Perri:

Hi Charlie! Hi Everyone! Sounding great today - I now regret even more that I'll miss that last quarter to leave for a dentist appointment.
  12:35pm Katya Oddio:

Love fermented foods -- beer, pickles
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm charlie:

Miso too!
  12:36pm Katya Oddio:

Perri, take care of those choppers, because your smile lights up a room!
  12:36pm northguineahills:

You need to have homemade sour kraut, it's a different beast then the stuff you find in the stores.
  12:36pm Michael:

Nix on sauerkrautenzee here too. Now Taylor Ham....
  12:38pm Katya Oddio:

Yeah, miso, kim-chi, olives, wine, bread, vodka, all that good stuff!
  12:39pm Perri:

Awwwww, Katya.... *blush* Same to ya, Miz Gigawatt!
Happily, nothing major, mostly a maintenance visit. They'll probably tell me I'd have been in even better shape if I'd only had more sauerkraut in my diet.
  12:40pm Brian in UK:

Hello Charlie and gastronauts. The ubiquitous saurkraut. Have to put that on my shopping Liszt.
  12:40pm Carmichael:

Yay, another kimchi fan! It's an acquired taste, but I lived in Korea and was forced to acquire it. Now I love it.
  12:43pm Katya Oddio:

Nice version of Czardas!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm charlie:

Hi there Brian in UK
Yes kimchi!
One word: Tempeh reuben
  12:45pm Katya Oddio:

And so good for you nutritionally, Charlie. I'm the only tempeh fan here at Rancho Oddio.
  12:46pm Katya Oddio:

Perri has made some incredible food themed mixes/ playlists. Will have to ask if those are still available.
  12:47pm northguineahills:

I had some Korean leftovers from the weekend. I reheated them Monday, and holy hell, did the kimchi smell to high heavens, but it was so tasty!
  12:50pm Perri:

You can tell it's lunch time!
I still miss the Old WebJay lunch playlist, but there is a little one at FMA, http://freemusicarchive.org/member/Zenguin/Munchables
  12:52pm Carmichael:

I eat a decent amount of tofu. How does tempeh differentiate itself?
  12:55pm Katya Oddio:

It is fermented soybeans. Kinda a little bit blue cheesey. Only way I eat tofu is if it has been frozen. Freezing gives it a firmer texture. Better for scrambles or barbecues that way, to me anyway.
  12:56pm Katya Oddio:

OH MY GARSH! Charlie, I was just this week trying to remember which '80s cartoon featured Count Floyd!
  12:58pm Doug Schulkind:

Hello all streamers and dreamers, you should be aware that our man Charlie is only $30 puny little lovely dollars away from reaching 100% of his goal!

Someone please step up to the plate and knock us all outta the park!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm charlie:

tofu is to tempeh as mozzarella is to blue cheese (?)
it's fermented, firmer, slightly tangy
  1:03pm Carmichael:

I loved Count Floyd. He would always show Dr. Tongue's 3D House of <insert cheesy topic>. With Woody Tobias Jr. starring as Bruno.
  1:03pm Carmichael:

Is that Lurch playing the harpsichord?
  1:05pm Tower:

Vic Mizzy had some 45's on the Tower label.
  1:06pm Michael:

missed Count Floyd? ! Wasn't 3D House of Stewardesses damn.
  1:06pm Katya Oddio:

Love this show! Grimley, Mizzy, and Ne Zhdali in the same set!
  1:14pm rob t,:

i will never forget Count Floyd's 3D House of Representatives."hey kids, that was really scary! that bill could have become a LAW!"
  1:15pm rob t.:

man, Balkan brass band music always makes me swoon.
  1:16pm Katya Oddio:

WFMU's Free Music Archive offers years of Golden Festival recordings and many Roma albums.

Here's a gypsy mix for you!
  1:17pm Michael:

Always loved the Perry Como Still Alive commercial:
  1:20pm Carmichael:

This is Holy Modal Rounders Pete Staempfel?!? Jeez, he's even more eccentric than I thought.
  1:20pm Katya Oddio:

@Michael: "I thought it was a bit uptempo"
  1:21pm rob t.:

thanks katya!
  1:21pm Lewis:

most excellent Caravan!
  1:22pm Gary Mitchell:

This groovy mambo makes me want to throw on the sharkskin.
  1:22pm Katya Oddio:

<-- Was a weird eight year old who howled "Caravan" in a sequin dress in the yard. The Crosby '30s version. Cheers to grandparents who turn us on to "new" music
  1:23pm Carmichael:

"I saw him 3 years ago, in the Holy Land." I love it when he's laying on the stage with the mic next to his head. No movement, just a voice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm charlie:

catching up...
Hi Tower, Rob, Lewis and Gary!
And Doug (thanks for the push!)
  1:28pm Katya Oddio:

Hurray! Cheers to all who donated!
  1:29pm Brian in UK:

Les Paul is Steve Miller's godfather. And.....
  1:30pm Doug Schulkind:

My wife and daughter have been after me to get a dog. Now I can just direct them to Charlie's playlist!

Wag dog wag!

Fantastic and wonderful effort everyone!
  1:31pm Brian in UK:

Still holding out, Doug. Impressive.
  1:32pm Katya Oddio:

So wagging tail *IS* just after pledge goal achievement
  1:33pm ndbob:

Heya Gary!
  1:34pm ?:

"Temporary Secretary"? Mitt's got binders of women.
  1:34pm northguineahills:

W00t, charlie reached his goal!
  1:35pm Doug Schulkind:

@Brian in UK
They don't just want a dog. They want a BIG dog.
  1:38pm Tower:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm charlie:

"Let me be your little dog
'til your big dog comes..."
  1:56pm northguineahills:

Kick-ass set, charlie!
  1:56pm northguineahills:

I remember this Count routine....ahahahah!
  1:58pm ndbob:

excellent show Charlie!
  1:58pm Katya Oddio:

Another mix that goes well with this show

Kraliçesi Gizli Kabare: The Sultana's Secret Cabaret
  1:59pm Katya Oddio:

Today's show was so much fun, Charlie! Thank you so much! It didn't come from hunger at all!
  1:59pm Doug Schulkind:
