You see a blanket on the ground. It's your favorite color, smooth and soft. You can sit on it, or lie on it. It's a flying blanket, and you are the pilot. You are in control. You can fly anywhere you wish, just by thinking about it. You are the pilot.

Avatar Mon. 10/15/12 9:14pm Dan B:

  Mon. 10/15/12 9:17pm doca:

Avatar Mon. 10/15/12 9:18pm Dan B:

I want you to call in and sing something on air for us -- are you game? If so, call 201-209-9368 at 9:30 EST -- let me know if you'll do it
Avatar Mon. 10/15/12 9:19pm Dan B:

Don't worry, I will mix you with music and put you through effects to decrease the embarrassment factor
  Mon. 10/15/12 9:20pm doca:

Dan, sometimes they need just a little push.
  Mon. 10/15/12 9:22pm ?:

Jim Kweskin as in jug band Jim Kweskin? DB, did you step out of the studio for 10 minutes or so?
  Mon. 10/15/12 9:25pm PB:

DB, this has crossed over into (very) annoying territory.
  Mon. 10/15/12 9:27pm bonadooch:

Very profound, I'm mixing this with my weight loss hypnosis
  Mon. 10/15/12 9:28pm doca:

are you talking about the background music? it reminds me of that hypnotoad's song in futurama.
  Mon. 10/15/12 9:30pm Auld:

Kweskin is my favorite psychic. Used to be on Carson all the time.
  Mon. 10/15/12 9:32pm Kweskin Kweschun:

Wasn't Jerry Garcia or John Sebastian in the Kweskin Jug Band?
  Mon. 10/15/12 9:32pm bonadooch:

I have no tongue but I would sing the national anthem
  Mon. 10/15/12 9:38pm bonadooch:

@Wendy, hey to you and Glenn! Are you gonna start selling human flesh in the shop? ;-P Yes @bonadooch, 1500! Of course, we don't know if he told the folks he was dosing how much he was giving them or what he did with them once they were under. But damn could the man play old time folk music!
Mon. 10/15/12 9:59pm wendy del formaggio:

Dan, I might have to in order to uphold my fine reputation. Charlton Heston can be my spokesman: IT'S PEEEEOPLE!
Mon. 10/15/12 10:00pm Richard from Venezuela:

Hello Dan and all the listeners. I love the voices on the Tzotiles Indians that Dan play several shows ago. Pop-up link: http://goo.gl/yHucL
Avatar Mon. 10/15/12 10:01pm Dan B:

Hey all -- shhhh, this month is WFMU's Silent Fundraiser, the 31 Days of October. We have beaucoup prizes to give out (including our holiday 2xCD "WFMU's War on Christmas" and a great new t-shirt) -- if you like how bad I have let this show become tonight, and the fearless way I have done so, please support us via the widget at the top of the playlist page! This is the money that keeps us from having to do another on-air marathon each year. We're keeping it to one, plus a nonair one in Octobers. Thanks all!
  Mon. 10/15/12 10:03pm bonadooch:

Have you ever been to a live show where this is being played? If so what's the crowd like

It's engine talk
  Mon. 10/15/12 10:19pm Ignore Function:

Were members of Funkadelic involved with the Process Church?
  Mon. 10/15/12 10:20pm Destroit:

hello everyone, glad to be here
Avatar Mon. 10/15/12 10:23pm Dan B:

@Ignore Function: I don't think Funkadelic folks were members of the Process, which was very hard to achieve and required giving up all your possessions and living communally with the group. But they were definitely influenced heavily by the Process -- they quoted the Fear issue of the Process mag in the liner notes of Maggot Brain.
Avatar Mon. 10/15/12 10:27pm Dan B:

@Destroit, welcome
  Mon. 10/15/12 10:29pm Ignore Function:

Thanks. Cool show, by the way. I look forward to hearing that program.
  Mon. 10/15/12 10:29pm daupo:

Great show tonight, as usual, Dan. And also highly informative!
  Mon. 10/15/12 10:34pm Snortley:

Mel Lyman is supposed to have said something like "The Manson Family preached peace and love and killed people. We don't preach peace and love."
Avatar Mon. 10/15/12 10:39pm Dan B:

@daupo, thx! @Snortley, the quote comes from a great multi-part Rolling Stone series on Fort Hill & Lyman, and it's a quote from Jim Kweskin. It goes: "The Manson Family preached peace and love and went around killing people. We don't preach peace and love..." He went on to add that they hadn't killed anyone -- "yet." Several members, including Jim Kweskin, physically intimidated the RS writer in his office and tried to smash his tape recorder during the course of his writing the series.
  Mon. 10/15/12 10:47pm BSI:

whoa, sorry to have missed UFO... that period of Guru Guru is a blinkin' unbelievable thing...
Avatar Mon. 10/15/12 11:04pm Dan B:

@BSI, sorry -- catch the archive a little later for it
Avatar Mon. 10/15/12 11:04pm Dan B:

BTW all, that RS series on Mel Lyman makes for pretty compelling reading and it's here: www.trussel.com...

Mel Lyman, The Process . . . reaching into my damaged brain cells and trying to recall how i first leaned about all this stuff!!! (maybe through "High Weirdness By Mail"? book from pre-inter-web days, around 1985 . . . )
but dig this! Best Friends Animal Sanctuary has roots in The Process!!! who knew?!!!

Mon. 10/15/12 11:39pm dan in falls church VA:

just got here and wow, whatta setlist! i need to be here every Monday night!
  Mon. 10/15/12 11:39pm BSI:

jeezus, i think i still have my copy of High Weirdness around here somewhere...
Avatar Mon. 10/15/12 11:41pm Dan B:

@slugluv, yes, Best Friends has at its center almost all of the central folks involved in the first serious blossoming of The Process in the early 60s, and the folks who went to Xtul in the Yucatan, where the group really developed the core of its later theology as it shifted from psychotherapeutic program to religious cult.
Avatar Mon. 10/15/12 11:41pm Dan B:

@dan, pls join us regularly! And YES! god I miss the pre-internet days when this kind of obscure culture was hard won
Avatar Mon. 10/15/12 11:43pm Dan B:

Hey all, here's a Fun Fact: Not a single donation to the October fundraiser has come in to Airborne Event during on of my shows. Isn't that weird? I'm 42% of the way to my goal, and all of the donations have come in when I'm off air. Wonder why.
Mon. 10/15/12 11:46pm dan in falls church VA:

I <3 Samara Lubelski
  Mon. 10/15/12 11:47pm ms:

Just made your funfact untrue and unfun.
Mon. 10/15/12 11:48pm dan in falls church VA:

and didn't know she had a 2012 release until now, so thanks Dan Buddha!
Avatar Mon. 10/15/12 11:49pm Dan B:

@ms, thanks man! Another hundred bucks and I'll hit 50% on the middle day of the month -- that'd be cool.
Mon. 10/15/12 11:49pm dan in falls church VA:

that ms is a party-pooper, donating during the show like that
Avatar Mon. 10/15/12 11:49pm Dan B:

@dan in fcva: yes, it is PRIMO!
  Mon. 10/15/12 11:57pm RISKY:

GO DAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  Tue. 10/16/12 12:07am slugluv1313:

Michael Mountain left Best Friends some years ago and is now continuing animal advocacy through Zoe: It's Our Nature/Earth in Transition but WOW! i had NO idea about The Process connection! GREAT show tonight (as always!) and anxiously awaiting your upcoming special show devoted to The Process!!!
