A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

  9:06am Mike East:

Morning, Trouble!

Hey ausmanx- are you familiar with a TV show called "H2O: Just Add Water"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06am trouble:

  9:08am Brian in UK:

  9:09am ausmanx:

  9:10am Titus in GA:

good morning, Trouble:) hope you're feeling much better this tuesday. very neat start to today's show
  9:11am Mike East:

I wouldn't recommend it. My daughter loves it. Its tolerable for what it is (I've seen worse kids shows). Was just curious is it was a popular thing in Australia...like how iCarly is here.
  9:13am Cheri Pi:

Just tuned in, heard the word boogaloo, brain exploding!
  9:23am Mike East:

I like that painting more and more as I stare at it; would love to see it in person. Thanks for that photo, ausmanx. That may have to go up on my wall. Too cool.
  9:28am hamburger:

wahoo trouble. / that painting looks like someone's walked past it a lot leaving a mark each time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30am trouble:

  9:35am Cheri Pi:

If they only knew how much ass-shacking was happening in my office chair they would look at me quizzically.
  9:46am joe:

  10:06am matt:

how long has JM in the AM been off the radio signal schedule? i can see how it couldn't have been HUGELY announced, but it's just chance i thought to tune in before 9 on a weekday today.
  10:08am joe:

Are one of the channels out or did I kill another pair of crappy headphones?
  10:11am joe:

@Matt did you tune in on line JM is not broadcast on line
  10:12am Mike East:

@matt - It might a Jewish holiday, which they usually take off for, for obvious reasons.
  10:12am BryanBeninghove:

Touch of Evil
  10:12am joe:

touch of evil
  10:13am matt:

ah, okay, the schedule as printed on the site doesn't explain.
  10:14am Mike East:

...might (be) a Jewish holiday...
  10:14am matt:

no, i was listening on the radio.
  10:18am Brian in UK:

Touch of Evil, was that one of the longest opening shots in film history?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am trouble:

october is a month of many jewish holidays... mike
  10:18am erella:

I saw Joe Bataan play in Toronto a few years ago. It was a gorgeous summer night by the water. He was charming. His wife was on stage with him. He introduced her as his ball-and-chain. Regardless, he was charming and the music was super sweet hot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am trouble:

touch of evil! yes that's it. gorgeous b/w tonality thru out the whole movie....
  10:24am nathan:

bringing it! amazing show.
  10:30am tim from champaign:

Late to the game as usual. What's the Touch of Evil reference? I love that film.
  10:32am pierre:

Bonjour Trouble.
Bonjour listeners.
  10:33am MD:

What's Crackin' all!?!?
  10:42am Cecile:

is Pat Longo related to Robert Longo?
  10:43am Dominick:

Hi Harvey! Great show Trouble.
  10:48am Cecile:

latin music is like a little black dress of pop culture.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56am trouble:

thanks all! sorry i can't really type and talk and dj today with the studio full of peeps. but i am glad you are out there!
  11:02am (mta) Tony:

Hi Trouble, can you ask "why out of 10,000 CD titles, the 2 most difficult for me to have found were Ray Barretto's "Charanga Moderno" and Celia Cruz/Johnny Pacheco's "Celia and Johnny." WHY are these two GREAT albums almost impossible to find on CD? Just wondering if he knew. Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04am trouble:

harvey says "go to fania.com or descarga.com"
  11:05am Titus in GA:

I'm loving this Harvey Averne number. It makes me feel like i'm a detective in 1970s NYC.
  11:06am (mta) Tony:

okay, thanks.
  11:08am Brian in UK:

I Like It Like That
  11:09am Marshall Stacks:

Hi Trouble and guests!
I did some reading up on Mr. Averne a year or so ago. Fascinating guy! My question: how did you like Terry Riley's use of You're No Good (great song, by the way) in his work of the same name? And was that the first sampled song ever?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10am trouble:

hey marshall stacks! harvey talked about that earlier in the show and claimed it was the first...
  11:14am Brian in UK:

Top job today, trouble. Respect to your guests.
  11:15am Marshall Stacks:

I'll have to listen to the archive. I'm dying to hear about it. (It's still early here in California and I'm just tuning in.)
If I had looked at the schedule and known about your guests I might have planned to get up earlier....

That is, I would have Gotten Down earlier!
  11:22am Cecile:

this guy in Hong Kong has a 300 sq foot apt, with sliding walls for everything!
  11:24am Cecile:

One whole ceiling to floor wall is CDs - but I bet you could use records. He just moves walls like those filing cabinets on risers with cranks big companies had.
  11:28am joe:

I missed the speaking of that book.
  11:34am Titus in GA:

Gotta jet, Trouble. Much luv & thx to you and your guests. Great show, as always and hope to be here next week for the Requests show. Cheers:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am trouble:

love goes to buidings on fire by will hermes, cover illustration by mark alan stamaty. great read!!!
  11:34am joe:

Love Goes... is one of the reasons along with a BBC doc I saw recently as to why I have been so obsessed with NYC latin music lately.
  11:38am Cecile:

joe ,if you are truly obsessed, Stereo Review wrote reams on Fania records and even did a feature or two. Their coverage in the 70s was very good, and you may still be able to find old issues cheap.
  11:38am Cecile:

Weren't Panamanians also a large early Latin community in New York?
  11:40am joe:

@Cecile cool thanks I will have to check that out. I've just been kind of shooting in the dark on stuff so some background would be great.
  11:44am Cecile:

No problem, joe. That Will Hermes book was the first places besides that magazine that really put all the different threads together - he did it after the fact, they were doing it as it happened.

I remember being amazed as a teenager reading that people actually had shrines to Celia Cruz because she was so loved.
  11:45am Marmalade Kitty:

Hola!!! :)
  11:50am Mike East:

We just had willie colon in the studio a few weeks ago. Its worth mentioning that of all the different types of musical groups we have that range from hip hop to broadway/orchestras to rock, Salsa is by FAR the loudest by many decibels...even when they aren't mic'd up.
  11:53am joe:

Thank You so much Trouble and Harvey this has been super cool.
  11:55am Lucky:

@ (mta) Tony - We have "Celia and Johnny" at the Paterson Free Public Library here in Paterson, NJ.
  11:56am Gary Mitchell:

loved this show
  11:56am northguineahills:

This has been amazing! Thanks!
  11:56am Questioner:

Where do I put my request in for your all request show?
  7:22pm luckydog:

and i got to hear this via archive, thank Ag Nostic, great show.
