  3:05pm
Mike East:

holy crap, this brings back memories. Radio Friendly Unit Shifter was one of the first songs I ever played with a band. We used to smash up all our gear at the end. Ah, to be a teenager again...
  3:05pm
northguineahills:

I may be in the minority here, but Nirvana is perfect right now.
  3:06pm

Good afternoon Kurt and listeners
  3:06pm

@NGH: I like Nirvana, I think it aged pretty well
  3:09pm
Mike East:

@MN Jeff - I heard about 2 seconds of it, then my stream cut out. I gotta check out the archive. A buddy of mine just recorded an album with him.

good afternoon, everyone!

I have no idea what's going on, but I'm extrapolating some sort of thematic device might anchor this show to some sort of cohesiveness.

(this why I shouldn't talk to people at parties).
  3:30pm
Honey Water:

Oh, yes, Whipping Post! :)

Hi, DJKG!
  3:32pm
fred:

@DJKG: did you get L'Ocelle Mare's CD as promised? Otherwise I'll send it to you, that was my original plan anyway
  3:32pm
Minnesota Jeff:

Why am I thinking the Doobie Brothers wrote Whipping Post, thats not right, right?
  3:33pm

well, I'm outtie, have a great afternoon all.

I think: Mother squirrel and baby squirrel.
  3:36pm
Honey Water:

Kurt, was it possibly its baby?? [sorry if something you said and I missed completely discounted that]
  3:36pm

OK, what's going on here? Must be Doug S playing Ono's Mind Train -- we're all on the same train of thought here! :)
  3:36pm

While that was playing, I saw a photo of Greg Allman in a photo, playing at a hepatitis C benefit.

Tuesday OED word of the day: melliferous -- yielding or producing honey.
  3:38pm
Cheri Pi:

Did someone mention baby squirrels??? SQUEE!
  3:38pm
Snortley:

That's how mother squirrels carry their young. The "kits" or "pups," as they're called, hold on as they're being moved. On the other hand, yes, they do eat chipmunks, mice, birds, eggs, and other sources of animal protein. They especially have a nutritional need to eat bones now and then.
  3:38pm
Minnesota Jeff:

Doobie Bros, Allman Bros, Burden Bros, Burrito Bros, all the same.
  3:39pm
Cheri Pi:

Oh, not such a squee after all???
Avatar 3:39pm
DJKG:

common, ha!
i don't think it was a baby squirrel. it had a striped tail like a groundhog or something.
  3:39pm
Honey Water:

Back to baby squirrels: We have tons of squirrels and seen lots of antics on our deck and railing. A few months ago I saw my first baby, or at least very young one, playing on the railing with its parent (didn't check gender). It was damn near the cutest thing I ever saw, up on hindlegs, batting paws with each other like pattycake. Philo had our video cam in Finland with hiim, gol darn it. :{

Squirrels also have a need to leave bagel sections in my plant boxes or on the deck rail.
  3:40pm
Cheri Pi:

@ honey water *swoon! tell me more. my dog sits in the window and watches them all day in the tree but we've never seen the babies.
  3:41pm
hamburger:

I think there was a story on the news a while ago about how these russian black squirrels did a gang land attack on a dog in the park
  3:41pm
Honey Water:

@Cheri: They some how keep their nursery days/week very private. With the hawks around here, good idea.
  3:42pm
northguineahills:

Seems to bit outside of my knowledge of Gavin Bryars works.
  3:43pm

ooo I bet they keep the babies in the holes in the trees, Winnie the poo style. Now i want to spy on my squirrels too.

I'm really enjoying this Gavin Bryars track. Good stuff.

@still/bp: only 100 years, why not 10000? I doubt Putin will still be around and kicking ass 100 years from now, so why the restraint?
  4:02pm
Honey Water:

I recall seeing black squirrels in the Hocking Hills area of So Ohio. Our January honeymoon vacation aamof.
  4:04pm
dcp:

I'd day it's about half-and-half, gray to black squirrels around my neighborhood.
  4:05pm
Cheri Pi:

what a beautiful area that hocking hills... I saw a red squirrel last summer in Michigan, it must have been a Canadian squirrel who lost his way ;)
  4:06pm
Honey Water:

We're solid gray here. 50 shades maybe, but all gray.
  4:07pm
Cheri Pi:

yeah the Ohio squirrels are pretty bland (no offense)
  4:07pm
Honey Water:

Yes, even though it was January (2000), and even though we only had a few days before Philo flew back to Finland, that Ohio to PA trip was very memorable. There's that cave w/ the incredible acoustics I recall.

50 shades of gray is about rodents? that makes so much more sense to me now.

Is it called Old Man's cave? i think the local college students enjoy taking psychedelic journeys to the center of their minds in that cave. so I've heard, I've always wanted to go.

  4:13pm
Honey Water:

Hey, Carmichael, no shit, I, TOO, have been battling banks these past two days! Apparently the financial sector has declared war on us peons -- where was that headline?!
  4:13pm
dcp:

I want to go grab a beer but my boss keeps emailing me...
  4:13pm
Honey Water:

Take a video cam with you, CP.
  4:14pm
Mike East:

I go in to do battle with the bank tomorrow morning. this morning, it was the electric company.
  4:14pm
fred:

I'd like to see more squirrels around here, but Pussy Riot were sentenced to two years in prison. I know a lot of Russian people who said: "well, what did they expect? They're alive and might see their children again, they got off easy". They have a point, one that applies to us.
  4:15pm
Honey Water:

IOW, Carm, can't calm you down until I've calmed down. Been on the phone over the most petty, nickel and diming crapola at two completely separate banks. Sheeesh.
  4:16pm
dcp:

damn, ANOTHER email. What does he want from me??
  4:17pm
still b/p:

Many many chattering reds in this region when you get outside of town. Woods are full of 'em. They'll chew into food bags and whatever blocks them from food bags.
  4:18pm
Honey Water:

@dcp: Just Wed. I unsubscribed from a ton of political.org, esp. since they had me under multiple addresses. The emails were overwhelming me -- and our server.
  4:19pm

this is fun for ADD

My wife did something she has never done before: claimed a hardship, closed the account, and basically gave them the middle finger. End of discussion; I was in awe!
  4:21pm

Now if you can play every Beatles song at once, Kurt, that would be a Herculean feat.

@honey water: being petty is how they make money: promising stuff then looking for ways out. We all applaud it when it keeps our premium down, then scream bloody murder when the tables are turned
  4:30pm
Carmichael:

As for squirrels, we are about a 50-50 greys to browns. They grey ones mock my dog from the fenceline.
  4:30pm
northguineahills:

I'll grab a beer for dcp.
  4:34pm
Honey Water:

@fred: Premiums? Maybe a translation thing, but I'm not talking about insurance -- ack, don't get me started on insurance companies! -- but about deposit accounts. WE are generously giving large sums of money to our bank -- no loans or mortgages -- and THEY want to hide fees in our HSA ? I don't think so. Adios and on to a new credit union.
  4:35pm
Carmichael:

I get thirsty every day about this time.
  4:35pm

This Derek Bailey was great
  4:38pm
Cheri Pi:

happy weekend all!
  4:40pm
northguineahills:

Kurt, you've been playing a lot of Larry Polansky and not enough Paul Lansky in the last month,
  4:41pm
Carmichael:

And not ANY Meyer Lansky.
  4:48pm
fred:

@Honey Water: I apologize, I was indeed thinking about insurance, ack trebled -- but can you tell me how they've been able to get away with this? What are you doing? I don't mean that in judgmental way, just as a question about what you could teach me.
  4:55pm
Honey Water:

@fred: Sorry, was away there adding to my letter to the credit union's CEO. :) Well, the only lesson is to not expect bank employees to be forthcoming with fees. We have been with this bank since 2006 and had no reason not to expect full disclosures. It may be just one bad dick in the bunch -- which I'll find out on Monday -- and fairness will be restored. He was truly The bank Dick. The other bank -- an unused credit card account -- is too long to go into, and doesn't involve money, just an "on principle" dingus.
  4:57pm

beer everyone...beer.
  4:59pm
Honey Water:

Yes, time to decompress! I poured myself a glass of red wine, though i guess mead would be more apropos.
  5:02pm
fred:

@honey water: good luck with that, I really hope you can just sever that bad dick and be done with it (I might even even mean the severing part literally, that might prove dissuasive)
  5:06pm
Honey Water:

Thanks, Fred! I usually prevail. ;)
  5:08pm

Here way late, looking back at squirrel talk: I'm always disappointed when we don't see our squirrels here in Midwest changing their coat to white in wintertime. The squirrels we had in Finland would go back and forth from brown to white depending on season.
