You see a blanket on the ground. It's your favorite color, smooth and soft. You can sit on it, or lie on it. It's a flying blanket, and you are the pilot. You are in control. You can fly anywhere you wish, just by thinking about it. You are the pilot.

Listener comments!

  Mon. 8/13/12 9:12pm monte:

hi dan, happy to be listening. i defended eno earlier at the bar, gave him a lifetime pass on account of the first 3 solo albums. U2 forgiven.
  Mon. 8/13/12 9:13pm doca:

hi dan, what's in the store for the listeners today?
Avatar Mon. 8/13/12 9:15pm Dan B:

Hi all, welcome. Diamond Terrifier playing live in a few minutes. Plus tons of new vinyl releases tonight. @monte, yes, U2 forgiven. But wasn't that Daniel Lanois? I forgive him due to Neil Young's Le Noise!
  Mon. 8/13/12 9:16pm PB:

Any form of involvement with U2 is never forgotten or forgiven.
  Mon. 8/13/12 9:17pm Adam:

YO DAN! YO SAM! YO ENGINEER! Psyched to hear this.
  Mon. 8/13/12 9:18pm doca:

weren't wim wenders involved with u2 for some time? i find his work quite fogiveable
  Mon. 8/13/12 9:20pm monte:

i'd take a paycheck off U2, teeth gritted, so no real judgment.
  Mon. 8/13/12 9:21pm cubicle carl:

Hey folks, play nice. Don't forget this is a freeform station. In the right context, even U2 can deliver.
Avatar Mon. 8/13/12 9:24pm Dan B:

We're working our way into Diamond Terrifier's set of U2 covers, folks -- wait for it, wait for it...
  Mon. 8/13/12 9:26pm Ike:

"Kill the Self..." was great, like a cross between Don Cherry and Enya, but better! Ha ha. No, seriously, fine sounds.
  Mon. 8/13/12 9:28pm menefreghista:

@cubicle carl: perhaps as a demarcation line.
Avatar Mon. 8/13/12 9:28pm Dan B:

What a wild sound outta his sax
Avatar Mon. 8/13/12 9:29pm Dan B:

@Ike, didn't you catch the allusions to the "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" theme in there?
  Mon. 8/13/12 9:35pm cubicle carl:

@menefreghista: Ha! Possibly.
  Mon. 8/13/12 9:35pm PB:

DB, Sam coming in at pretty low volume.
  Mon. 8/13/12 9:35pm PB:

Better now.
Avatar Mon. 8/13/12 9:43pm Dan B:

Hey all, did we manage to get Sam to an audible level while talking a couple of minutes ago?
  Mon. 8/13/12 10:03pm monte:

i was away, but this sounds good
  Mon. 8/13/12 10:08pm Destroit:

hello DB, DT and everyone. Interesting times as usual at the Event.
  Mon. 8/13/12 10:25pm Destroit:

Digging the mule track already...
  Mon. 8/13/12 10:46pm D in Miami:

Hey Dan and all. I just saw this split in the store and was wondering how good it was. Sounds good so far.
  Mon. 8/13/12 10:46pm dave:

that "steady diet of hash..." comp might be the best bargain in music in like forever.

also, this pulse emitter et al split was so worth the wait.
  Mon. 8/13/12 10:50pm dave:

... the "steady diet" comp is free from the fma & here:

Avatar Mon. 8/13/12 10:52pm Dan B:

@D, yeah, this split set is amazeballs. I was pretty torn between this track and one of the Expo 70 tracks. Everything on here is golden. Also, Steady Diet is pretty premium.
  Mon. 8/13/12 10:55pm dave:

i was worried the split had come & gone on recorrd store day before i even got a shot at it. once i found out it was delayed i pretty much spent the next few months madly reloading web pages until it appeared.
  Mon. 8/13/12 10:55pm D in Miami:

That comp does look pretty tasty. Have to czech it out later.
  Mon. 8/13/12 11:00pm RISKY:

This really brings my day to a total consummation.
Avatar Mon. 8/13/12 11:01pm Dan B:

@RISKY, me too! I am loving this new OM record so much.
  Mon. 8/13/12 11:02pm D in Miami:

I just read the review on brainwashed today. Mixed. I don't really know his stuff, but I thought this sounds pretty good.
  Mon. 8/13/12 11:12pm D in Miami:

  Mon. 8/13/12 11:14pm Destroit:

Yes D, fleetwood! Spectacular!
  Mon. 8/13/12 11:15pm dave:

damn. between this raajmahal thing and trailmix's reworking of "you make lovin' fun," i think i'm developing a taste for fleetwood mac
  Mon. 8/13/12 11:15pm D in Miami:

Reminds me of Julianna Barwick. Beautiful!
Avatar Mon. 8/13/12 11:17pm Dan B:

Pretty awesome. Blame it on my wild heart! (Which Lucius covered on this show a couple of months back)
  Mon. 8/13/12 11:17pm MAtt:

anyone got a link for Raajmahal zip or rar?
  Mon. 8/13/12 11:19pm Destroit:

That Lucius show was very nice
  Mon. 8/13/12 11:21pm D in Miami:

Check out Microphones in the Trees blog before it gets taken down. Just buy it, man.
  Mon. 8/13/12 11:25pm dave:

pretty much every dan b show causes me to buy at least one record. between diamond terrifier and myrrh, this episode's shaping up to be an expensive one.
  Mon. 8/13/12 11:28pm MAtt:

lol, well my record player is pretty much a piece of shit.. i just dont spend money on vinyl man. i have other things to $$$$ on. :s of course its important to support the artist but its not that simple breheem.
  Mon. 8/13/12 11:28pm D in Miami:

Not only Dan but all the shows I listen to keep my wallet thin. Thanks FMU for keeping my wallet thin! Now I don't sit so lopsided anymore.
  Mon. 8/13/12 11:30pm dave:

it kinda is that simple, matt: the artists and labels (and wfmu) don't exist unless you pitch in.
Avatar Mon. 8/13/12 11:31pm Dan B:

I just spent $20 I don't really have on that Om 2xLP. At least shipping was free.
  Mon. 8/13/12 11:33pm dave:

at least the diamond terrifier i can maybe cheap out on 'cause nspy sells flac downloads. but i'm torn 'cause i loves the shiny vinyl.
  Mon. 8/13/12 11:34pm D in Miami:

Most of what I listen to comes in like 500 or less copies, so I can't really wait around sometimes, unless I want to pay more on discogs later.
  Mon. 8/13/12 11:34pm MAtt:

w/e dont have to get snappy mang.
  Mon. 8/13/12 11:37pm D in Miami:

And sometimes really difficult to find DLs. Sucks, but that's my taste buds killing me. I've got about 50 blogs bookmarked to search for DLs when I want them.
  Mon. 8/13/12 11:37pm MAtt:

that could be said for the independent publishing companies that i choose to give my money too for books/ art publications. so chill. also ive had my days with vinyl. its cool and everything but you kind of have to choose between purchases sometimes.
  Mon. 8/13/12 11:42pm D in Miami:

We're not coming down on you. Matt. I don't earn a lot of cash, but I just really like to have the actual copy and support. I find that a lot of the vinyl I buy lately goes up in price, so if I need some cash, I sell some to buy more. I only have about 450 total in my collection.
  Mon. 8/13/12 11:43pm MAtt:

word. i know D. : P
  Mon. 8/13/12 11:44pm dave:

i just think that in situations like that maybe you should forgo the d/l. or at least not troll for d/l links at places like fmu that depend intimately on the ability of artists to sustain their art.
Avatar Mon. 8/13/12 11:46pm Dan B:

It's a good conversation, gentle folks. But let's keep it civil, K?
  Mon. 8/13/12 11:48pm MAtt:

who's the troll here.. Trying 2 Dan. sorry
  Mon. 8/13/12 11:50pm D in Miami:

The DLs usually get me to buy, or at least search out a copy for years till I find it. It's not all bad. I don't really have any DLed music on my comp.
Avatar Mon. 8/13/12 11:50pm Dan B:

Now now, no one's trolling. Everyone has a different take on the whole DL issue. Let him who is without sin cast the first stone, though, OK everyone? Let's let it go.
  Mon. 8/13/12 11:51pm dave:

i swear on this ptv3 track genesis sounds exactly like the dude from fields of the nephilim.
  Mon. 8/13/12 11:52pm MAtt:

haha word Dan B.
Avatar Mon. 8/13/12 11:53pm Dan B:

@dave, LOL so true. S/he has done interesting things with hir voice in recent years.
  Mon. 8/13/12 11:54pm dave:

yeah, the vocal range is stunning, but it's pretty much matched by the insane musical territory they've covered.
  Mon. 8/13/12 11:55pm D in Miami:

5 more minutes of another great show, Dan! I hope to catch next weeks live!
