Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Another Dusty Show in the can. Thanks for listening, whoever you are. Speaking of which, why not touch base? It's easy ----- dusty@Wfmu.org. I'd love to hear from you. Maybe you don't know what to say? It's cool for me to hear what city you listened to the show in. Jersey City? Mahwah? Trenton? NYC? Or perhaps, LA, Seattle, Portland, Atlanta, Cedar Rapids, etc. No city is too big or too small. Represent!

Have been having fun doing the shows, though I've been really busy this summer with various pursuits. I hope you are enjoying listening. Sometimes I feel as if I ask the same damned questions over and over, and I do. I'll try to break the mold soon, if I can. I guess with the election coming up, I'm right back in the thick of that scene, being a political junkie and asking ad nauseum about Obamaloney and Romneyhood. I'll keep an eye on things and we'll see what transpires and if we need to move to Canada. In the meantime ... take care ... have fun ... always remember.

Anyone there?
  6:02pm Danne D:

Occupy my next hour
  6:02pm Philo Gristle:

Yep! Hi Clay!
  6:02pm Night Al:

hello world.
  6:02pm Danne D:

nope, nobody here Clay
  6:03pm Caryn:

Yes, Clay. Hi Danne!
  6:03pm sfrances:

Cheers, y'all from Richmond,VA!
  6:03pm Danne D:

Hiya Caryn
  6:03pm Matt from Springfield:

Present Clay!
  6:03pm Caryn:

And hi to everyone else too!
  6:04pm Matt from Springfield:

Hi Danne, Philo, Al, Caryn, frances!
  6:04pm moose:

Avatar 6:04pm Clay:

Danne, Philo, Al, Caryn, Frances. Welcome! I don't have a street finds episode, kind of a thrown-together generic. It'll have to do!
Hello Matterhorn!
Avatar 6:05pm Clay:

Moose showed up! Excellent.
  6:05pm Philo Gristle:

kat330 says hi, listening, not typing!
  6:05pm Marmalade kiity:

Hi erryone!
  6:05pm Matt from Springfield:

Yeah, I suppose "neglect" is the better term for "passive" abuse, rather than actively inflicting hurt.
Avatar 6:06pm Clay:

Marmz! Yea!
  6:06pm Fredericks:

Hello, fellow Bhurd-listeners.
Avatar 6:06pm Clay:

Kat ... Indiana wants me ... Lord I can't go back there ...
  6:07pm Matt from Springfield:

Moose has tracked in! Greets to off-board kat! :)
And KITTY! :)
Avatar 6:07pm Clay:

Fredericks! Always a pleasure. Hope all's well.
  6:07pm Night Al:

My dad was an alcoholic. Mom would drive up to the 'Fly-in Bar" in Detroit and make me go inside and get him to come home.
  6:07pm Matt from Springfield:

Fredericks! All star commenter lineup tonight!
Avatar 6:07pm Clay:

Just to mention, I was on with Chris T last Tuesday (archived) and will be hosting it next Tuesday. Please drop by.
  6:07pm Night Al:

Anybody got any heroin?
Avatar 6:08pm Clay:

Aerial View that is. That;s sounds rough, Night Al. But you survived!
  6:09pm Night Al:

Lou Reed's 'waiting for my man' would be good there...
  6:09pm Matt from Springfield:

@Al: Did the bar surroundings seem fairly typical to you, or were you fearful of even going inside the place to get your Dad out? Wondering how you reacted as a child.
  6:09pm Danne D:

There's some prog rock
  6:09pm Philo Gristle:

@Clay & Matt -- kat says hi back, she's working on some sound files next to me, will try and get to list later.
  6:09pm Danne D:

I heard that tiny bit of Starship Trooper, Clay
  6:09pm Fredericks:

I know what I'll be listening to after this show.
Avatar 6:10pm Clay:

I had 105-minutes of interview tape this week. Too much. I'm trying to get more songs in. I need 3-hours!
Avatar 6:11pm Clay:

Good Ears Danne!
  6:11pm Night Al:

Moms disdain was the only down side for me...dad would be proud of me introducing me to all his bar friends. Not really traumatic. The most traumatic part was watching my mom's disdain of him.
  6:11pm Matt from Springfield:

I was about to say: there was a scheduling SNAFU on Tuesday at WFMU; first they said Clay would be filling in for Chris T, then the announcement was dropped and Chris T with a different guest was listing. But NEXT TUESDAY, Clay will be filling in for Chris. And Clay DID come on to co-host last Tuesday, with a special phone interview. I listened to it--very good, it's an important interview!
  6:11pm sfrances:

We'd love a 3 hour Dusty show!
  6:12pm Caryn:

I'll be missing the next 2 weeks, Clay. It's even worse since you'll be on twice a week. Yay for the archives! But I'll be visiting family, which will be nice. Haven't seen my mother in almost 2 years.
  6:13pm paula pc:

finally, happily here
Avatar 6:13pm Clay:

Have a nice visit. Your always welcome when you return. Safe travels!
  6:13pm Matt from Springfield:

"Was listed", even. And a special phone interview with the guest, Chris and Clay in studio.
  6:14pm Timb:

Listening from Fort Lauderdale. Have a great show, Clay!
  6:14pm Night Al:

Listened to'the 'Yes' album while soaking in the tub last night...love Steve Howe's guitar playing! He sat down across from me having lunch while working the Asia/Alan Parsons Project show here in Clearwater a few years back. He was very friendly.
  6:15pm Caryn:

Thanks, Clay! It'll be nice, since it's basically a tour of 3 different places, and I'll end up seeing pretty much my entire extended family at some point.
Avatar 6:15pm Clay:

Timb. Good to hear from you. Ft. Lauderdale gets a mention later this hour.
  6:16pm dale:

have to listen on the cornputer. a lot of weird fm skip going on due to t-storms up here in the hudson valley. 90.1 is classical fading in to jazz fading in to hiss
Avatar 6:16pm Clay:

Cool, Caryn. Should be soul-satisfying.
  6:16pm Matt from Springfield:

Things is rough, growin' up in the Romney-hood.
Avatar 6:17pm Clay:

Dale, really glad you've been a regular lately.
  6:19pm Mr. Personage:

This show is amazing. Seamless.
  6:19pm Night Al:

I ran spotlight for Chris Tucker's stand-up show last Saturday night. Then I helped set up the stage in center field after the Tampa Bay Rays game Sunday for the Wiggles Show. Both ends of the entertainment spectrum last weekend. Tucker was hilarious! A fellow stagehand told me one of the Wiggles was a registered sex offender. Not sure about that.
  6:19pm Caryn:

Romney Hood, Romney Hood, riding on the track. Romney Hood, Romney Hood, on Rafalca's back...
  6:20pm Danne D:

@dale how did you tell the difference? Classical fading into jazz fading into hiss is normal around here? ;o)

not to critique clay, but totally had a chance to throw in an oscar meyer ad there, clay :)

"21st century schizoid man" bit there in between bits, clay?
Avatar 6:20pm Clay:

Thank you, Mr. !
  6:20pm Matt from Springfield:

"Oba-ma-loney", it was a bitch for the newspapers to explain the pronunciation of that one! :)
  6:21pm Danne D:

@Night Al nothing on Snopes about the Wiggles
  6:22pm Night Al:

  6:22pm dale:

danne - pretty sure fabio wasn't playing coltrane. he might like it but he wouldn't play it.
  6:22pm Matt from Springfield:

@Al: That's probably a joke, it's the ideal kind of setting for those kinds of urban legends to take effect.
  6:23pm dale:

boy, the guys in accounting really stank up this version of green eyed lady.
  6:24pm Danne D:

the guys in accounting prefer green eye-shade lady
  6:25pm Matt from Springfield:

Heesa plumma! :D
Avatar 6:25pm Clay:

Haha Matt!
  6:26pm dale:

i'm doing shots of purell as we speak
  6:26pm Caryn:

Considering he has the same name as a tv character, I'm wondering if he gave an alias...
  6:26pm Night Al:

  6:27pm paula pc:

amazing how people will open up to Clay -- that's a compliment, Clay!
Avatar 6:28pm Clay:

TY Paula!
  6:28pm Danne D:

Soul Coughing in the back?
Avatar 6:28pm Clay:

Dale, it was kind of a sterilized version. Lolove that song, though.
Avatar 6:29pm Clay:

No soul coughing. !
  6:29pm Philo Gristle:

difficult to type with such great interviews.... outstanding show, Clay.
Avatar 6:30pm Clay:

TY Philes!
  6:30pm sfrances:

Excellent use of Van Halen!
  6:30pm Matt from Springfield:

Great interview! A lot of stereotypes defied about prison, and a warm, engaged glimpse into an ex-felon that people might just write off.

Great luck in the plumber's future!
  6:30pm dale:

somebody i know was (unbeknownst to me) a registered sex offender. he was at a barbecue with his daughter, stopped on the way home to pee behind the car and a cop came along. they charged him with dwi, public indecency and exposing himself to a minor and he's in jail for the next five years. he was dumb, but that doesn't help his kid since he can't pay child support anymore. messed up system sometimes
  6:31pm moose:

yeah really excellent stuff! heaps of appreciation
Avatar 6:31pm Clay:

Van Halen can really come through for a DJ sometimes, Frances. TY Matt! Strange and sad story, Dale.
Avatar 6:32pm Clay:

Moose! Appreciate that.
  6:32pm dale:

clay, i've sat in some music houses for tv commercials in my previous world and was kind of amazed and appaled at how much is just done with a keyboard hooked up to a computer. 'can we get a horn player there? no need, we can just flip this button.' it all sounds fake sometimes
  6:33pm Night Al:

shows flying by today!
  6:34pm Night Al:

Very Styx-like!
Avatar 6:34pm Clay:

I found a nice cassette source in my hood. 2 C-90's for 3.99.
  6:34pm dale:

love this joe walsh - sure it's not kansas?
  6:34pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Great show as always!
Avatar 6:35pm Clay:

This Joe Walsh if from a record called California '99 by ..... somebody ... Haskell.
  6:35pm dale:

hey night al - i owe you a beer!
Avatar 6:35pm Clay:

Phil-er-up Phillip. Good to see you on the board.
Avatar 6:37pm Clay:

Wanting to hear the new Joe Walsh record. Always been a fan. James gang was great ... with Walsh... Tommy Bolin ... and Domenic Troiano.
  6:38pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Clay i don't know how to explain the Marfa Lights. They are very very odd.
  6:38pm dale:

love hearing the stories of the homeless. we're all just a few steps away
Avatar 6:39pm Clay:

True, Dale.

The Marfa Lights? I'd like to go there and paint and see UFO's and smoke gage.
  6:40pm cool fool:

if he's not interviewing the 99% protesters, he's interviewing the homeless, it's a weird fixation. go clay!
  6:41pm Matt from Springfield:

Wish he'd learned the first time he got caught...some people just keep pushing the envelope though, and can't stop until it's too late.
  6:41pm dale:

pine bush is supposed to have seen a lot of ufo's. friend up in delhi swears he and his wife were visited - he was rendered frozen and she went off with them for an hour or so. the guy's not nuts, never knew what to make of it
  6:42pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Incredible to see. We weren't expecting to see them. Its a great cheap travel destination. Spent the night at a throwback 1950s travel traveler park in a tee pee. Great weather. Cooler than New York on a lot of nights.
  6:42pm Night Al:

Love seventies music, late sixties also. I been playing some old Rolling Stones albums on youtube. Goats Head Soup, Black and Blue, Exile on Main Street. Made me go to the library and get Keith Richards autobiography, 'Life'. The first chapters are his childhood east of London, just getting to the band years. Got Gregg Allman's 'My Cross To Bear' to read after I'm done with Keith.
Avatar 6:43pm Clay:

I know two people who saw one, Dale. Makes you think. Also had a friends who 'saw the white light' in a near-death experience, and heard the voice saying, "you have to go back."
  6:43pm Matt from Springfield:

@cool fool: Clay always finds the people of the street!
  6:43pm kat330:

Hi, Clay and all! (Made it at last.) I *really* appreciate hearing these guys taking full responsibiliy for their wrongdoing. Several CEOs and political figures would do well to do the same.
  6:43pm Danne D:

Avatar 6:43pm Clay:

THe Northern Lights are incredible, too, Phillip. Saw them in Wisconsin a lot.
  6:44pm Matt from Springfield:

Smoke "gage", Clay? What decade is your mind in?! :)
Avatar 6:44pm Clay:

Hi Kat!
  6:45pm Philo Gristle:

A lot of abduction stories could be explained by sleep paralysis. Not all. But everybody knows somebody who has had something strange happen to them, and even if just 1% of those are 'true'... that's a big pile of people. Yes? No? Maybe.
  6:45pm Night Al:

70's...just like me.
Avatar 6:45pm Clay:

I had to breeze through the last 20-minutes of show so it gets a bit more wide-open. I wish I'd had time to work more on this episode.
  6:45pm cool fool:

clay's like the john stossel of wfmu!
  6:46pm Matt from Springfield:

Hello, now to on-board kat!
  6:47pm other david:

brilliant show, clay
  6:47pm kat330:

Yea, Matt, I had a long swim to catch this boat! :)
Avatar 6:48pm Clay:

O.D.. Means a lot that you checked in and thanques for the props.
  6:48pm Night Al:

I've been thinking about getting on a Jet Blue flight to JFK and go walk-about in Manhattan again. I'd have to sleep in a bush, but I'm jonesing for the Met's art, and just walking the streets.
  6:48pm kat330:

Speaking of boats -- Ahoy, other david!!
  6:48pm Matt from Springfield:

@cool fool: Just as good with getting the answers out of people, and much more kindly!
  6:48pm Danne D:

hmmmmmm don't seem to recall Lincoln having a slave he let roam around
  6:48pm Night Al:

  6:49pm Matt from Springfield:

Hi OD!
Avatar 6:49pm Clay:

I wondered too, Danne. But, I rolled with it.
  6:49pm Danne D:

not even sure this guy's history book would even pass muster in Louisiana
  6:49pm other david:

Freeform FMU off the starboard bow!

Hey Kat
  6:50pm kat330:

:) You always make me smile, OD.
  6:50pm Matt from Springfield:

So Nixon "shared" the money he stole with all of us???
  6:50pm Night Al:

  6:51pm Caryn:

Yeah, some historical problems with his theories, but to each their own. At least he's not trying to legislate his beliefs, unlike some people out there.
Avatar 6:51pm Clay:

Dallas, Texas = Dollars, Taxes not really.
  6:51pm other david:

and Matt, Danne, Philo, Al et al :)
  6:52pm Danne D:

hey o.d.
  6:52pm Philo Gristle:

I lean more port, mizzenmast fully in rig. Hello, OD!
  6:53pm kat330:

Stewart did a brilliant piece about Bain Capital's swindling Italy and US (of course) of taxes by funneling a deal done in the Boot of Europe through Luxembourg. Italy considers Romney persona non grata -- ITALY, folks!! ITALY finds Romney's dealings too shady!
Avatar 6:53pm Clay:

This is Gown - For the Maples. Love this LP.
  6:54pm Night Al:

GOWN! All it needs is a sitar.
  6:56pm Matt from Springfield:

So which is the finer particle? Dusty, or Sandy? :)
It's DUSTY! He is one FINE individual!
  6:56pm Sean Daily:

Great show as always, Clay.
  6:56pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Thanks for the Cyclops
  6:56pm dale:

excellent editing job tonight. lots of layers....
  6:57pm John:

do you mean Sy Coleman w/a little help from mr. c. debussy?!
  6:57pm Night Al:

and in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make!
  6:57pm kat330:

Thanks for this power hour, Clay! And always remember folks: Even a monkey trained to entertain needs a break and a pat on the head once in a blue moon. ;)

Sleep tight and sweet dreams.....
  6:58pm Danne D:

have a good night Clay
Good night all
  6:58pm Caryn:

Lovely show, but it just flew by! We need a 3-hour Clay!
  6:58pm sfrances:

thanks so much, always remember!
  6:58pm Matt from Springfield:

Clay has mentioned Debussy as composer since that was pointed out to him. Even if not every single time from here on out, he has acknowledged it.
  6:58pm Philo Gristle:

Thanks Clay & listeners, great show!
  6:58pm kat330:

Anitra's Dance!! Love it!
  6:58pm Matt from Springfield:

YES Night Al!

Take care everyone, have a good night! Always Acknowledge!
  7:01pm Fredericks:
