Listener comments!

  11:54am
listener james from westwood:

happy wednesday! good day amanda, and all those milling about waiting for the club doors to open!
  11:59am
kat330:

I'm in line with you, LJfW! Yo, Amanda!
  12:02pm
Brian in UK:

Hello, if anyone is milling I'll have some strong Canadian white; makes the best white loaves.
  12:03pm
kat330:

Down by the ol' mill stream -- hi, Brian!
  12:04pm
Danne D:

yay amanda :)
  12:04pm
Brian in UK:

Amanda, just walked Spencer 'fraid it was hotter than I realised. Think I'm not cut out as a dog walker.
  12:06pm
Brian in UK:

james, kat, danne. Is there essence of Morrissey in the air, personally I hope not!!
  12:08pm
kat330:

No such essence on moi. Are we even inside the club yet?

Amanda:

Hi everyone! Fake IDs, please...
  12:11pm
kat330:

Oh, you flatterer, A.!
  12:11pm
listener james from westwood:

do white sideburns count as proof of 21+? (yes, i still get carded despite my roger sterling-esque hair)
  12:12pm
listener james from westwood:

hey, that's the liz b podcast theme! :)
  12:14pm
kat330:

OTOH, I was often not carded even when I *was* underage. After pinning my hair in a bun and contact lenses removed for granny glasses, I was the one my friends sent in for weekend runs. :)
  12:14pm
pgw in mntclr:

i got carded for smokes a few winters back, and i just took off my knit cap to reveal my baldness. it worked, and me and the cashier both got a good laugh out of it.
  12:16pm
kat330:

But as Dylan wrote: "Ah, but I was so much older then / I'm younger than that now."
  12:17pm
Doug S.:

@Brian
Maybe you should stick to indoor dog activities. Maybe read the pooch some trashy novels.

Greetings Amanda!!
  12:17pm
listener james from westwood:

i had a full beard for a while in freshman year and was constantly asked to buy liquor. but when i came home after senior year, clean shaven, and bought beer on my 21st birthday, did i get carded? nooooo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm
Amanda:

@Brian, don't worry -- if it's too hot for you, Spencer won't want to stay out either. :-)

@kat330 -- That's enough of your sass, young lady.

@lJfW -- No! White hair could be one of those trendy things the kids do to themselves.
  12:20pm
kat330:

Dear Warren. His passing hit me really hard.
  12:22pm
pgw in mntclr:

yeah, i showed up on the first day of freshman year with a full beard, and people in my dorm would first ask me if i was transfer student, and when i said no, they asked if i would try and get beer for them.
  12:23pm
Brian in UK:

juhst bin diggin' mah 'taytas.

Doug '500 shades of beige', perhaps?
  12:24pm
kat330:

You mean they wouldn't have asked you to if you'd said you were a transfer student? Like that makes you some sort of undercover agent? ;)
  12:25pm
Brian in UK:

Is it 21 in the US to drink in pubs/clubs?
  12:25pm
kat330:

It differs by state -- I think? -- but I've only lived in 21-required states apparently.
  12:26pm
Brian in UK:

Yacht is a Dutch word?
  12:26pm
Danne D:

your show is not stupid B.S. :(
  12:27pm
Danne D:

@Brian it's 21 in all states - while it is determined state by state, they held out public highway funds to those that didn't change it to 21
  12:27pm
kat330:

Thanks, Danne! I knew I didn't know for sure.
  12:27pm
Danne D:

I'm getting Amanda's premium when Swagmas finally arrives for me :)

Oooops, marginf*ck time hits early today...

Thanks Danne. UnScroll time.

This show makes me happy.

Thank you! Long Island in the houuusssssse
  12:36pm
northguineahills:

Finally tuning in. Duane started w/ Slowdive, and it took lots of will power to switch to Amanda.
  12:39pm
Danne D:

My margin in fine :) Just happens if there's one big long "word"
  12:39pm
kat330:

Hey, ngh! Yeah, a couple of my wishes for changes to FMU involve conflicting DJ slots. It doesn't wind up working too well, but I've started having my I-net radio on one stream and iTunes on the other. Can't have the best of both worlds unfortunately.
  12:41pm
fred:

Good afternoon everybody!
I don't check out the alternate streams all that often, but Danne D converted me to this show months ago
  12:41pm
kat330:

I have to pull the leftmost edge of comments for all to fit. That'd be fine if it remained extended, but it reverts to the smaller field whenever I refresh or post a comment.
  12:41pm
listener james from westwood:

i download many shows' mp3s from the archive page when they conflict. it's how i listen to irene every other monday, for instance.
  12:42pm
northguineahills:

I sometimes have two streams playing at once, but it's too much aural data for my brain to process at the same time for too long.

Love the Lexie Mountain Boys!
  12:43pm
fred:

@kat330: same here (FF 14.0.1, WinXP) and that's fairly recent
  12:45pm
fred:

@ngh: Lexie Mountain Boys are good live too!
  12:46pm
kat330:

Here's a thought on the margins of late: I had no problems with them when many others complained last Friday on Doug's list. BUT I had early on posted a long URL myself. So maybe if you are the commenter to do that, your margins will remain OK (at least in Win7+Firefox). If another is the one to post a long URL or no-spaces lengthy bit, then it's messed for me. Shrug. I just don't understand why it's happening now? Went to new servers recently, so maybe that's it.
  12:46pm
pgw in mntclr:

'I sometimes have two streams playing at once"
i've done that on friday morning with Doug and Scott. sometimes the results are mindblowingly great.
  12:47pm
Danne D:

whoa this is sorta a socialist Danielson Famile :o)
  12:48pm
Doug S.:

@pgw in mntclr
Scott and I are coordinating everything. And we are monitoring you through that chip implanted in your back molar.
  12:48pm
Brian in UK:

@ LJfW that gal E Mauphry is pretty confused.
  12:48pm
kat330:

@pgw: Heh, I can recall a time when I had Scott and Doug streaming AND the BBC 5-Live streaming Mayo+Kermode. That stretched my bandwidth to the limit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm
Amanda:

I hope you all appreciate the clean edit of this song.
  12:50pm
pgw in mntclr:

"I hope you all appreciate the clean edit of this song."
it's like the Hot 97 version!
  12:51pm
Danne D:

seamless edit, Amanda :)
  12:53pm
Danne D:

I guess I'm the only one that saw a Danielson Famile parallel there?
  12:53pm
pgw in mntclr:

sometimes i listen to both the flash and the mp3 streams; usually there's a 2 or 3 second delay. that works really well with Bryce's show, that is, if you're in the mood to have your brain scrambled.
  12:55pm
pgw in mntclr:

the female backup singers definitely made it Danielson-esque.
  12:57pm
northguineahills:

Painful converted me to a YLT acolyte. Love this track.
  1:12pm
Danne D:

:( I'm not gonna win any points
  1:13pm
Danne D:

I can only think of Marv Throneberry
  1:13pm
northguineahills:

Back to the Future? Best guess.
  1:17pm
northguineahills:

Wow, that image from the band at the prom flashed in my head when you said that name, when Marv called his cousin, Chuck.

Really, that guess was a shot in the dark.
  1:20pm

  1:24pm
kat330:

@Brian: Don't know for sure, so I'll defer to Danne.
  1:27pm
Danne D:

I defer to the internets :)
  1:29pm
Brian in UK:

Top Rank singles on FMU. Belting. Shirley Abicair anyone or Little Pattie?
  1:29pm
kat330:

We all bow before the mighty interwebs!
  1:31pm
Brian in UK:

Amanda you have just slipped through a crevice in the silk of the music space continuum.
  1:31pm
kat330:

Oh, wow -- really dredging up some youthful summertime sounds, Amanda -- thanks!
  1:33pm
kat330:

No doubt I spun a hula hoop around my hipless self while this blared from my transistor radio (in the stuffed body of a poodle).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm
Amanda:

For the record, hula hooping is encouraged throughout the show.
  1:58pm
kat330:

Or how 'bout pogo-sticking? Or stilts? My three favorite childhood toys -- AFTER my bike, of course. :)
  2:04pm
Danne D:

Doing the rest of the show on archive :(
But thanks for wonderful stuff to listen to Amanda :)
Have a good day everyone :)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm
Amanda:

Very cool, Doug! I didn't know about that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm
Doug S.:

I can't remember who did the interview. It was either Stork or the late Raymond Franks.
  2:14pm
listener james from westwood:

really wish there were raymond franks archives up. too early for that era of the station. i learned about a lot of good music from his show.
  2:17pm
Doug S.:

Ray was a sweet sweet guy. He was a subway motorman in NYC. I occasionally saw him in the front of the F Train which passed through my old neighborhood. Having a subway motorman wave at you is just about the coolest thing ever. The opening theme to Ray's show was "Comme à la Radio," that amazing Art Ensemble of Chicago track featuring Brigitte Fontaine.
  2:19pm
kat330:

Tongue twister might help? I wrote this to Doug last Friday not realizing its potential for vocal exercising: whip-quick quip. Say it fast over and over. :)
  2:22pm
listener james from westwood:

doug, when i left the keyboard after my post, i was whistling that very in-theme of his. i always get happy chills when i hear it on the station.
  2:23pm
kat330:

Oh, wow..hanG -- and now I hang up my fingertips. Ears still working, however. Keep the lovely tunes coming -- sweet and Lowe!
  2:25pm
Doug S.:

I gotcher back, kat330.
  2:26pm
listener james from westwood:

kat, we'll put that down to either a pre-lunch low blood sugar count or a post-lunch food coma, depending on your time zone. :)
