A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:04am trouble:

today's artist is the recently deceased franz west. gone too early, we won't have him around making gorgeous and crazy images.
  9:04am ranjit:

Wait, what happened to June?
  9:05am Cheri Pi:

  9:08am Laurey Williams:

Never've I asked an August sky, 'Where has last July gone?'

But that was just BS when I sang it. I hate July a'passin' by and mourn 'til well past Christmas.
  9:09am kwhitehead:

Wait, what? I was just passing thru Seekonk. When is this? Every weekend?
  9:16am healey:

hello to you miss trouble and the modern world on this goodbye to july morning, from philly!
  9:16am hamburger:

for tracks like this wfmu ought to invest in a smellogram smell simulator thing so you can close your eyes and imagine you were actually there, and then in the future, have a visual hologram so you wouldn't need to close your eyes! wooo.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18am trouble:

seekonk Massachusetts? every sunday...seasonal. that was quite thoughtful laurey... hello to you healey, van, cheri pi, ranjit, buncotools...
  9:22am hamburger:

  9:46am Brian in UK:

You know trouble it is over three weeks since I saw Mucha's Slav Epic & I cannot wait to go back and see it once more. Really got me hooked.
  9:48am Van in DC:

Ha, this is great :)
  9:52am ranjit:

Almost 30 years ago (!) on KALX in Berkeley I heard a track that was a little girl singing "It's ever so stinky / oh my gosh peeeyew / I'm just sick and tired / of this kitty poo"

I imagine that those of you reading this are more likely than the general public to recognize this mysterious song.
  9:52am don:

Much thanks Brian and Trouble! Looking forward to this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00am trouble:

don! here's more
born bad: 17 rue keller , 11 arrondisement. croco disc, 42 rue des ecoles and look to this link:gigsinparis.com...

  10:01am Van in DC:

This is great...Doug had it on one of his premiums that I downloaded not long ago :)
  10:02am Brian in UK:

Don if you are still there. Shabazz Palaces are playing Nouveau Casino next Tuesday 7th, 109, Rue Oberkampf.
  10:03am still b/p:

Sounded like the talking whatsis in the film of Naked Lunch.
  10:05am Parq:

'Morning, all. My belated contribution to the "where'd summer go" thread:
  10:05am Cecile:

morning, everyone.
Trouble, did you ever hear Miss Hadda's duet with Carla Bozulich? It's a lot of fun.
  10:08am Andrew:

Welcome back, Trouble. You made me lonesome when you went.
  10:10am Cecile:

That's why there are 2-wheeled dollys. But still, OUCH.
  10:11am Cecile:

hahahahah this is such a Ya Ya rip.
  10:11am Patrick:

Good morning trouble! Sorry to hear about your shoulder. Any DJ ice pack guest spots this morning?
  10:11am Brian in UK:

Layers Mash Up?
  10:12am Ken From Hyde Park:

To even things out, maybe haul them some oyster shells on your other shoulder? I guess you'd end up hurting on both sides, though.
  10:13am Van in DC:

Ouch, sorry to hear that, but thank goodness for heating pads eh? Also - sonic/heat massagers and Ibuprofen :)
  10:17am Cecile:

hot tubs are also nice.
  10:19am trish:

Injuries that 'heal with time' tend to turn that sense of the swift passage of time on its ear.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am trouble:

hey patrick! dj icepack is at camp! he played 'wall ball' for 3 out of 4 sessions yeasterday. we older humans call it handball. he is a character, as you know. later in the summer he will be around, in between rock band camp and such. love to you and emily!
  10:20am Cecile:

very true, trish! ha!
  10:22am too much coffee:

@trish: those are the only times when we (as a adults) really learn anything, aren't they? when time does a backflip, as it were
  10:31am trish:

One of the times.
'..times' ?
  10:31am Cheri Pi:

Cecile-Jane & Michael Stern have struck again at the Jam Pot in the UP-this time they don't even bother to describe the food or the jam, only the fact that they're way up north. I hate them.: http://splendidtable.publicradio.org/www_publicradio/tools/media_player/popup.php?name=splendid_table/2012/07/28/splendidtable_20120728_64&starttime=00:08:05&endtime=00:11:15
  10:34am blacktooth:

Thanks for taking us on a detour through the islands. I'm really digging all the deep reggae sounds!
  10:35am Cecile:

and the Jam Pot is right by Fitzgerald's a terrific restaurant overlooking Lake Superior with over 100 fine scotches and hundreds of strong Belgian ales.
  10:36am Titus in GA:

howdy, Trouble. my apologies for being late to yr show. gotten roughed up by whiskey sours last night:/
  10:36am Cecile:

They are so smug. God.
How weird are we?
  10:37am Cecile:

a little hut on US-41.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am trouble:

no prob titus, we don't keep attendance! thanks blacktooth!
  10:38am Cecile:

Oh, I am getting very very angry.
At least they got Lake Medora right.
I guess they should change Houghton's name to Hobbiton.
  10:39am BSI:

...@Cecile: but they're much less disturbingly harmless than that Prairie Home Hellhound.
  10:39am Cheri Pi:

Open up fake Banh Mi/ Pasty shack in Iron Mountain. Lure the Sterns there for a surreal lunch that will change the way they approach food reviewing. really fuck with their minds. maybe hold t hem hostage there too and make them listen to Khanate.
  10:40am BSI:

Or those cackling foul devils that do Car Talk. Good riddance I say. They should have "retired" twelve thousand years ago.
  10:40am Cecile:

Cheri, great idea. hahahahahha.
  10:41am Titus in GA:

aww, thanks, trouble!
  10:41am Cecile:

I occasionally laugh at Car Talk, though. I used to like the Sterns a lot, until I actually heard them talk. Now I look up good recommentdations on Chow.
  10:42am trish:

Funny @Cecile. I'm clueless of the details/background, but nevertheless. Funny @Cecile.
  10:42am Cecile:

I can appreciate what they did for American local cuisine while still wanting to punch them in the head.
  10:43am Cheri Pi:

Or do it at the Konteka in White Pine, just before dessert, feed them the Sterns the black bears.
  10:44am Cecile:

I think I'd like to give them a "special" tour of the Quincy Mind.
  10:44am Cheri Pi:

Feed them to the black bears!
  10:44am Cheri Pi:

  10:45am Cecile:

Black bears don't like to eat humans the way grizzlies do, though.
  10:45am Cheri Pi:

Ooo I like where this is going. My, the tomatoes are growing so big this year.
  10:46am Cecile:

how is the Konteka? if it's any good, we'll have to swing by there.
  10:47am BSI:

Smarmy radio personalities make great compost.
  10:47am common:

that darlenes song was amazing.
  10:47am Cheri Pi:

Oh, it's not what it used to be, serviceable home cooking, the only game in town when you're near White Pine or that side of Lake Superior. My grandparents lived down the road so we ate there a lot growing up.
  10:48am Cheri Pi:

BSI- we're looking for a server...must have gardening experience.
  10:50am Cecile:

I think I'll invite the Sterns to my new undertaking in a few years: "The Shovel Headed Kill Machine Bar and Grill."
Ah, OK, Cheri. You know what tiny chain is kind of good? The Breakwater. They have excellent Wi-Fi and wonderful whitefish.
  10:52am Cheri Pi:

I can't wait to go back, my family just returned last night from 2 weeks at Golden Lake The big news there is that a wolf pack was circling the area and at night the wolves crept up to their tents and growled at my mom's delicious 2 snack dogs. they slept in the cottage the rest of the week but everyone was pretty entertained by the pack sightings.
  10:54am Cecile:

'77 is the only Talking Heads album I like. It's pretty great.
  10:57am Cecile:

that sounds both amazing and scary, Cheri.
  10:58am Cheri Pi:

and all I got was a bottle of Toivo and Eino's!
  10:58am Marmalade kitty:

nice bit of talking Heads there, Trouble!
  11:02am Cecile:

  11:03am Cheri Pi:

what she said.
  11:04am Cecile:

hi, benjamin!
  11:06am roman:

yeah ukraine!
  11:07am Marmalade kitty:

always carry a musical instrument with you, then you can play for your train money if you forget your wallet.. ;)
  11:09am kwhitehead:

Every summer, on our way to Cape Cod, we pass the towns of Tiverton and Taunton and we all say the names out loud, in a Hank Hill voice.

You should try it.
  11:10am Vivian:

Troubles' chickens have a FB page? How do I find it?
  11:10am Ken From Hyde Park:

Please discuss the pros and cons of bird mp3 files.
  11:10am Cheri Pi:

@kwhitehead we always speak like the natives when we travel! It's a pastime that makes me feel like I'm 7 yrs old!
  11:12am Vivian:

The hot lanes are such a joke.
  11:16am Marmalade kitty:

Trains are so expensive in the UK, you would be playing a looong time before you raised enough for the fare!
Avatar 11:18am bw:

Ken HP: haha bird mp3s! sigh MK: no one will give me money
  11:35am Cecile:

this is awesome.
  11:41am Brian in UK:

Turn up the volume
  11:46am Mike East:

These reggae tunes are helping me forget that I was just at the DMV for an hour and a half. Thanks, trouble.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am trouble:

you escaped, mike, you are now free!
  11:48am count reeshard:

Wartty Burnett's version of this tune - the Lee Perry produced "Rainy Night In Portland" - is exceedingly cool as well. So glad that you're celebrating Jamaican independence, Trouble.

Great show, trouble.

Loving getting to know you from Austin. You hit the spot. Hey, Icepak--- Try Jimmy Donley, "Born to be a Loser". Sing loudly as Maw makes you do the dishes.
