Listener comments!

  9:07pm
EastVanHalen:

Tuning into the Hook for my opening ceremonies antidote. Ahhhh. (Hey, Pseu!)
  9:09pm
G.R.:

Hiya EVH. (Evening, Pseu.) :)
  9:10pm
EastVanHalen:

Hey G.R.!
  9:12pm
G.R.:

I've got the opening ceremonies on, but the TV's on mute.
  9:13pm
Steve in Tulsa:

OAR?
  9:14pm
G.R.:

Love this Young Veins track...
  9:16pm
EastVanHalen:

CTV ran them live, so I've seen the whole thing and I'm ready for good radio.
  9:18pm
G.R.:

Cool. I'm in the Midwest, and NBC started running the show about two hours ago (6:30).
  9:19pm
G.R.:

The Mac! :D
  9:21pm
G.R.:

GAHHH! dB's!!!
  9:23pm
G.R.:

(Sorry. I just really, really like the 'Falling Off the Sky' album...)
  9:31pm
PiLA:

Is it okay that I'm not watching the Olympics? (I'm lying)

ps. "where is abba? They are British"
  9:34pm
G.R.:

ABBA? I'm pretty sure they're Swedes... :)
  9:36pm
seang:

“Nicholas Lezard loved London. Then the 2012 Olympics came along. Suddenly his beloved city was invaded by über-people in branded sportswear who had contorted their bodies into odd shapes in order to run a bit faster, or throw things a bit further. Not to mention armies of reptilian brand-managers, chancers and corporate cheerleaders all wanting to cash in, as a blameless piece of the East End was turned (at tear-inducing cost) into one huge folly.”
  9:42pm
PiLA:

@PB This television you talk of, tell me more.

@GR "quotes" denotes overheard (in this case)
  9:44pm
G.R.:

PiLA -- ah, I wondered about that...
  9:46pm
EastVanHalen:

I'm having an angry day, but I'm still enjoying the show. In fact, I'm counting on it to soothe the homicidal rage my idiot neighbours are inspiring. No pressure, Pseu.
  9:47pm
G.R.:

Pseu -- sorry, I'm just really digging some of these tunes. :D (And for future reference, I'm a girl, not a guy...)
  9:47pm
Parq:

Snow Patrol was my kid's high school heart-throb band, them and Postal Service. That was five years and two boyfriends ago, but thanks, Pseu, for the moment of nostalgia.
  9:51pm
Ike:

I'm so glad the Olympics didn't come to NYC, but I feel bad for London. Sounds like a monstrous invasive plague.
  9:54pm
Parq:

Just think, New York, we could have had the Olympics. World-changing traffic jams, surface-to-air missiles in our streets, local businesses being hassled by the Olympic Committee's trademark lawyers for trying to attract business (remember, all that business that winning the Games was going to bring?), foreign political candidates bouncing around making moronic statements --all that could have been ours!
  9:55pm
Rod:

thanks for the show. walking in the cold streets of Santiago, Chile.
Thanks!!
Avatar 10:10pm
pseu:

Thanks for tuning into the Olympics, everybody -- any good synchronized marching pyrotechnic giant puppetry?
  10:11pm
comment:

This is a wonderful f'kng song. Thank you.
  10:16pm
SteveL:

Watching the opening ceremonies left me emotionally confused. There were icons and artists that I enjoy, but it was all so incredibly GOOFY.
  10:18pm
G.R.:

Pseu -- not quite, but they're in the middle of a pretty extensive parade, with groups of people representing different countries in alphabetical order (Jamaica, Japan, Jordan, and so on).
  10:25pm
Syl:

Ha ha G.R., those are the *athletes*
  10:28pm
EastVanHalen:

I did not recognize that voice, but I surely liked that Secular Joy song.
  10:37pm
EastVanHalen:

Baked beans and Sterno? I will make a proper fire and get marshmallows.
  10:37pm
axlotl:

Sterno? Where I come from, we called that "squeeze"
  10:39pm
blacktooth:

G-darn?
  10:39pm
SteveL:

Hell of a point. This is the friendliest community I've seen online. What's wrong with us?
  10:39pm
cubicle carl:

I rather just listen to this music than watch the olympics. All those commecials just make me feel bad.
  10:39pm
G.R.:

Syl -- I was only half-paying attention earlier. *blushes*
  10:40pm
SteveL:

G-darn appears at the Hi Ho House's weekly "Tribute to Rap."
  10:42pm
Syl:

No shame in an honest mistake!
  10:42pm
EastVanHalen:

As for topicality: as long as there's an occasional winter hockey snark exemption, I'm cool.
  10:44pm
Syl:

EVH, who's your team?
  10:44pm
PiLA:

Mormonia
  10:45pm
EastVanHalen:

Canucks. Vancouver born and raised.
  10:46pm
Syl:

We're 1970 brothers! Sabres all the way!
  10:47pm
EastVanHalen:

Ha! Fabulous.
  10:50pm
G.R.:

Ooh... Never heard this S&G song before, but love those harmonies.
  10:53pm
EastVanHalen:

My kid sister and I used to sing anything we could find in a two-part harmony when we were small. We sang a lot of S&G.
  10:56pm
SteveL:

And what, to my wondering eyes did appear? A package of WFMU Swag! This is proof that Santa is generous, if a bit pokey.
  10:56pm
G.R.:

My dad had some of their records -- if he still has them, I should probably borrow them sometime.

p.s. God, I love this Chris Bell song. The whole 'I Am the Cosmos' album is a beauty.
  11:01pm
Chris in Newton:

Great show, thank you. Comforting to know others are still waiting on swag.. I've started pestering Joe.
  11:03pm
kelly in ithaca, ny:

yay! connells! thanks Pseu

  11:09pm
G.R.:

"If Raymond Carver Was Born in the '90s"... what a title. :D
  11:11pm
EastVanHalen:

Tell me about it. Does no one understand the subjunctive any more?
  11:21pm
Kenzo (lastever):

If WFMU listeners were in charge...
  11:26pm
EastVanHalen:

Exaaaaactly.
  11:33pm
EastBerzekely:

Pseu is atop Mt. Olympus, because she is Zeus. London is full of wannabes.
  11:40pm
G.R.:

Ah, nice to hear something from 'That's Why God Made the Radio'... :)
Avatar 11:43pm
pseu:

hmmmm.. someone's trying to call me....such an angry ring! I wonder what they could want?
  11:47pm
cubicle carl:

Put their number on the message board. We'll call them and tell them "she's on the radio for goodness sakes".
  11:48pm
G.R.:

The Olympics opening ceremonies have about 15 minutes to go. Paul McCartney just started his set (doing "Hey Jude" right now)...
  11:50pm
cubicle carl:

I'll catch it on you tube. Maybe.
  11:52pm
Tom - In Marine Park Brooklyn:

..shut it off when Bob Costos or whoever or his sidekick made a comment about when N. Korea approached totally uncalled for !!!.. maybe he thought he was that guy . from that movie "Best in Show" for a moment I mean this is the Olympics after all ..
  11:53pm
Tom - In Marine Park Brooklyn:

... TG for Pseu and WFMU.. a breath of fresh air .. and peace...
  11:54pm
G.R.:

Tom -- I must have missed that part. :\
  11:54pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

It's fun to pretend he's singing "Hey, dude."
  11:57pm
G.R.:

Director Danny Boyle is talking now...
  12:01am
G.R.:

Pseu -- excellent mix tonight, as usual. :)
  12:01am
cubicle carl:

All this music was great, Pseu. Great show.
