*awake for 5 minutes* Morning....
  6:03am
Jay/ London:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04am
Meghan:

Well Jay, I will help you think of a bunch more! I had over 16 hours of music for this one!
  6:10am
Jay/ London:

16 hours omg so ther could be part 2 ,3, ect i listened to sun great show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11am
Meghan:

Awww, thanks Jay. Yep, there very well could be parts 2, 3 and 4 for a lot of these themes!!
  6:13am
other david:

yay, getting to catch a full live underwater theme park, in god knows how long!

mermaid parade looked like fun
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15am
Meghan:

Yay! It has been a while!
  6:18am
Caryn:

A free and breezy day to all! And to those with hangovers: well, that's just the price you pay for freedom.
  6:20am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I still have the same number of fingers I did Tuesday night!
  6:20am
Chuck:

I'm still trying to reach consciousness....
  6:22am
Caryn:

Maybe you should move here. Independence Day is December 6th, and we don't celebrate with fireworks.
  6:22am
fred von helsing:

What heat? It's vewwy mild here
  6:23am
other david:

July 5th would appear to be a great day to invade the US, everyone hungover :)
  6:23am
Chuck:

What really messes you up is it makes you think it's the weekend. Had to keep reminding myself that it wasn't Saturday yesterday...
  6:24am
Caryn:

Dammit, need to sing along!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25am
Meghan:

see! Stupid song that will be stuck with me all day!

Ha! Very Very true Other David!!! And Yes Chuck..... that is the problem with the middle of the week one..... I was thinking the same
  6:27am
fred von helsing:

so... today is sunday ? (raises eyebrow) fascinating...
  6:28am
Caryn:

Am playing a little mental game with myself: try to remember which supermodel mouthed which bits in the video. I'm going: "Naomi... Linda... Christy... Cindy... back to Linda..."
  6:29am
Chuck:

Mid-week holidays create a temporal distortion, don't ya know, Fred!
  6:30am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I hooked everything back up to my parents' TV correctly.

Last night there were two rounds of my favorite Independence Day tradition: Babies vs. Fireworks. Fireworks won the first round (my newborn niece was not at all happy about participating). The second round went to babies (she slept through most of it).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31am
Meghan:

Exactly Caryn..... the time when you knew who the supermodels were..... I don't think I could name a single one that is current....
  6:32am
fred von helsing:

@chuck Oh, I know alright. I had an unofficial 4th of July afterparty last night, ft. some homemade radish vodka. The crowd roared with approval but this work day's a bitch.
  6:36am
Caryn:

@Meghan: well, in those days the supermodels did everything: high fashion, cosmetics & perfume campaigns, music videos. Nowadays, most of the campaigns and videos either carry the old supermodels or have been taken over by actresses and actors. Supermodels only do high fashion runways and magazines now, and the line between supermodel and model is very unclear even if you follow fashion.
  6:45am
fred von helsing:

"Naked Eye", Luscious Jackson <3
  6:45am
Caryn:

Oh man, there are like 4 books that I've gotten from the library over the years that I'd love to own but that I have been unable to find anywhere. I can't even find any trace that any of those books ever existed. Even the libraries no longer have them. But I read them (multiple times), so they had to exist! Right? Or...
  6:45am
Chuck:

"The Girl with the Far Away Eyes" - Rolling Stones, leaps to mind...
  6:46am
Caryn:

The Stooges: "T.V. Eye"
  6:47am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Was the book called "This Rimy River"?
  6:48am
Caryn:

Billy Idol: "Eyes Without a Face"
  6:48am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Misfits - "20 Eyes"
  6:50am
Chuck:

"Eye in the Sky" - Allan Parsons Project. Meghan will likely consider this one cheese...
  6:51am
Caryn:

If you choose some "Eyes Wide Open" song, I'd go for the King Crimson or Gotye songs rather than the Ashlee Simpson one... And this is me having not heard any of those. Just going by gut here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54am
Meghan:

hmmmmm Badguyzero..... I don't remember the name. Trying to find a link for it where I can open the book. For some reason I remember it being bigger, but it was a lot of the Vaughan Oliver stuff
  6:54am
Caryn:

Also plenty of "Stars in Their Eyes/Stars in Her Eyes/Girl With the Stars in Her Eyes" alternatives, and can't decide which I'd prefer.
  6:55am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?sts=t&tn=This+Rimy+River&x=0&y=0
  6:56am
Chuck:

Speaking of guilty pleasures, "Betty Davis Eyes" - Kim Carnes! hehe....
  6:57am
Caryn:

Frankie Valli's "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" might go into the cheese category. Or you could pick one of the countless covers, like Muse.
  6:57am
Chuck:

Of course, you could do Wierd Al's take on it too, "Marty Feldman Eyes"...
  6:57am
Caryn:

I second "Marty Feldman Eyes"!
  6:59am
other david:

*puts eye filter on mp3 library*

YLT - Little Eyes
Sonic Youth - Beauty Lies in the Eye
Primal Scream - Swastika Eyes
Clouddead - Rifle Eyes
Ariel Pink - Can't Hear my Eyes
Billie Holiday - Them There Eyes
Brian Eno - Needle in the Camels Eye
  6:59am
Caryn:

Now I'm wondering what will be in the "cheese" set today. I suspect "Born Free" will end up there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:00am
Meghan:

hmmmmm, I am wondering now.... I found the other book that I kept thinking it was the original one I was looking at, but now I wonder if I am getting them all mixed up! I just remember full pages of a cover and me drooling hehe
  7:02am
Chuck:

Funny I just saw that film sometime in the last 2 months, Caryn! Gotta love TCM...
  7:03am
fred von helsing:

drat, Warpaint only has "eyes" buried in a song (Undertow)
  7:03am
Dave B:

Hey. Sun and surf wiped me out.
  7:03am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Speaking of "eyes"...it's 6am here and my eyes are starting to give up on staying open. Bedtime for me. Will listen to the final two hours via the archive later today.

Have a great day, Meghan! Everyone else do likewise. :)
  7:03am
fred von helsing:

"Wiped out"? That gives me inspiration for a song...
  7:03am
Caryn:

I pretty much second all of od's list.
  7:06am
fred von helsing:

Hmm is there a song that rhymes eyes, thighs, and sighs
  7:07am
Caryn:

Too bad "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" only has "eye" buried in it. That line has one of the best misheard interpretations in all music: "the girl with colitis walks by". Oh man...
  7:08am
Bobby Bob-Bob:

Tindersticks - El Diablo En El Ojo
  7:14am
Chuck:

Had to look through tapes. "Gary Gilmore's Eyes" - The Adverts!
  7:16am
Caryn:

Morrissey: "The Harsh Truth of the Camera Eye"
Travis: "My Eyes"
I don't know if I love The Doors' "In the Eye of the Sun", or if you played it during either of the "sun" shows, but it's an option.
  7:17am
Dave B:

Eyesdown - Bonobo feat Adnreya Triana
Rat's Eyes - Black Flag
Her Eyes Are A Blue Million Miles - Beefheart
Mescaline Eyes - These Arms Are Snakes

So many more
  7:20am
other david:

This set is superb

*gets groove on.. or at least bops at desk*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21am
Meghan:

I seriously could have had the entire show be a soul set.....
  7:23am
rjk:

Hey Meghan, great show as usual, apart from the George Michael *grin*

How about...
Eye Know - de la Soul
The Man With The Child in his Eyes - Kate Bush
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24am
Meghan:

haha..... it's the love of a guilty pleasure....
  7:25am
other david:

Downtown Underwater Theme Parksville
  7:27am
Dave B:

Dickie Davies Eyes - Half Man Half Biscuit

You could have a set of other peoples eyes - Bettie, Gary, Marty
  7:28am
Simon:

Good monrning Meghan and everyone! I've always thought there should be more George Michael on WFMU. I'm racking my brains for a Wham! song about eyes.
  7:29am
Dave B:

Aye aye Captain!
  7:30am
idiot:

FREE BIRD !
  7:30am
lurker:

"Wham!"?! (rolls eyes) (hey does that count towards the set?)
  7:32am
Caryn:

The "Say Anything" fan in me would request Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes". And begs for no "Eye of the Tiger" (although, fine, it might fit the cheese set).
  7:34am
fred von helsing:

Eyes: the classic NatLamp cover:
http://www.gusbooks.com/shop_image/product/017272.jpg
  7:35am
Simon:

Eye'm your man. That's all I got. I second Half man half biscuit and Tindersticks. There's also "before you close your eyes" by Tindersticks. Some grumpy Aussie bloke did a song about green eyes too I recall.
  7:36am
Caryn:

Fine, I request either the Ani DiFranco or the Merle Haggard "Seeing Eye Dog".
  7:37am
Jay/ London:

Had to go meet my ex wife hope i have not missed too much see you have not played freebird yet
  7:37am
Dave B:

Oh and Moped Eyes by Super Furry Animals. I'll send ya some other gems too
  7:37am
Chuck:

Just looked at my MP3 library and I've got over 500 (with dupes) songs with "eyes". You've got your work cut out for you, Meg!
  7:39am
Simon:

Maybe you should just do a blue eyes show and work through other colours in the future. Will we get the Soupdragons next?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39am
Meghan:

I don't do Ani Defranco..... She's one of those people that I was told that I HAD to listen to.... but I can't take her over feminist ways...
  7:40am
Caryn:

Most cataract songs have nothing to do with eyes, and indeed don't even mention cataracts. I suppose Andrew Bird's "Cataracts" is the one exception I can thing of. But I don't much care for that song, so... I'm stumped on that.

@Meghan: yeah, not a huge fan of DiFranco myself. Go for the Haggard!
  7:41am
Caryn:

Seeing the way this set is going, I suspect The Who cannot be far away.
  7:41am
Jay/ London:

think the rolling stones version is the best one
  7:42am
Dave B:

The Clash - Brand New Cataract
  7:43am
Caryn:

(though the Who song is a different song, but hell, the name fits the set)
  7:43am
Chuck:

I was told I HAD to listen to Bon Jovi simply because I'm originally from NJ and so is he. "Are you out of your FUCKING MIND!", was my reply...
  7:43am
fred von helsing:

@DaveB rimshot!
  7:44am
Caryn:

Man, haven't heard this version since... well, I was in junior high, I think.
  7:44am
Dave B:

Wow - was this Soupdragons ripped from a cassette?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45am
Meghan:

It was the only version I could find! ha!
  7:46am
Dave B:

Nice and resourceful! It gave it a fine vintage lo-fi warmth
  7:48am
Jay/ London:

ahh the who thats me back to school holidays :)
  7:48am
Simon:

On Tape = Highly apposite for that period in british music history http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t01hcHiUvSg
  7:50am
Caryn:

I like this version, although the more OTT "end of Tommy" version is my go-to one.
  7:51am
rjk:

Iris DeMent, Pupil, Orbital (muscle), All seeing I er...that's all I can think of...
  7:51am
fred von helsing:

@caryn agreed!
  7:52am
fred von helsing:

the whole head? an entire show about philtrums ?
  7:53am
Dave B:

Andy in Berlin:

Hey everybody! Happy 5th! It just occurred to me - since we're in the Metal set - are you going to play Free To Be You And Me by Marlo Thomas/The New Seekers?
  7:56am
Parq:

I'm here, Miss Meg, still working for two more days. Why can't we have Wednesday off every week? (With apologies to John Allen.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56am
Meghan:

Happy July 5th Andy! Amazing no cheese set today..... so sad.....
  7:56am
Caryn:

@Andy: have been waiting for that all show long
  7:57am
Dave B:

Free government cheese
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58am
Meghan:

Parq, I'll take a 3 day weekend over mid week off. It messes with me!
  7:58am
Andy in Berlin:

@Caryn: well you can blame me - I was going to request it last week and I forgot
  8:00am
Caryn:

Too bad "Our freedom of speech is freedom or death" is buried in "Fight the Power". A shot of Public Enemy might wake me up more.
  8:01am
Caryn:

@Andy: oh please, I could've requested it. Just didn't come to me until the show started.
  8:01am
Chuck:

Totally great Devo cover that I've never heard! Thanks, Meg!
  8:02am
fred von helsing:

low tol for metal... but fu manchu cranked :-D
  8:06am

Holy crap, Helloween!

Wow! Last minute switch-r-oo?
  8:07am

Embrace...goodness
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08am

last minute switch! oh yes....
  8:13am
Jefff:

I'm running free yeah!
  8:14am
PKNY:

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Paul Di'Anno > Bruce Dickinson
  8:26am
Dave B:

Hey Meghan and Jefff - I'm thinking next year for the Mermaid Parade ... Team Zissou
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27am
Meghan:

Oh that could be fun! now how to get the submarine over there......
  8:28am
Dave B:

Hehehe . Chris' car is already Zissou blue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29am
Meghan:

it is..... but we need to MAKE the submarine.... float like, maybe out of a shopping cart.....
  8:31am
Dave B:

Ooh now THAT is a capital idea!
  8:32am
Caryn:

I suggest a jaguar shark float that you rig to the front of the car, so you can be chasing it.

Jay/ London:

love this song free nelson mandela !!
  8:33am
Caryn:

I can still remember watching the "Free Nelson Mandela" concert live on tv...
  8:33am
Chuck:

Strange as it may seem I was just listening to this song the other day! It's on an 80s comp I have...
  8:35am
Jay/ London:

does the sub work if it did would be cool
  8:36am
Dave B:

@Jay - it would definitely submerge with ease
  8:37am
Chuck:

Jay, would you really like to go under water in a submarine these guys MADE!
  8:37am
fred von helsing:

I've devised a recipe for a mermatini. It has the potential to be a complete waste of good gin.
  8:38am
Chuck:

The sub would have to be coffin shaped...
  8:39am
Dave B:

Fred - how about the bathtub variety?
  8:39am
Caryn:

It would be cool if the sub would work like the Yellow Submarine: occasionally send out psychedelic rainbow puffs from the top of it.
  8:40am
Chuck:

It will do that, Caryn. Provided you drop enough acid...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41am
Meghan:

Hey! Remember the show "Junkyard Wars"? They had to make stuff that worked! I think they even made a sub......
  8:41am
Dave B:

@Caryn - these guys were pretty creative

http://www.coneyisland.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?num=1340459708/41
  8:42am
Caryn:

Yeah, I think that ability will depend on how strong FVH's mermatini is. Still, it would be easier to realize than actual underwater mobility.
  8:42am
fred von helsing:

@DaveB Whoa! Good point! Here moonshine is "pontikka" but I don't have a distributor. OTOH I know someone in Estonia who made bathtub gin (or bathtub *something*) during Gorby's anti-alcohol campaign..
  8:42am
KP:

Caryn, nice!
  8:43am
Chuck:

Yes, Meghan. That could be a source to get some info...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:46am

CRAP! Where did my Monkees go! Damn.... I have it too!
  8:48am
Jay/ London:

just got a signed cd of hugh cornwell new cd totem and taboo in the post with everyone's name on it who pledged :))))
  8:50am
Caryn:

Jay's posting reminds me: Are the mixtapes sent to winners along with the rest of the swag or independently?
  8:51am
Chuck:

Not enough info with those pics, Meg. I'll do some research. I like the idea and I'm good at making stuff work!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:51am
Meghan:

It should be sent with everything you got..... unless you pledged for Sharpling.... he's always a year late, so you'll get his next year

@ caryn still waiting for the wfmu swag
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52am

@Meghan: heh, don't I know it. Just got my 2011 Scharpling last week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54am
Meghan:

Yep..... I saw those get mailed out..... I feel bad for those that pledge to wait that long.... I hope it's worth it!
  8:54am
Chuck:

Similar in priciple, Meghan. You just need to make it move under its own power...
  8:55am
Chuck:

Ooops. That's "principle"...
  8:56am
Jay/ London:

almost forgotten what i am getting now but worth giving to wfmu every time to keep this station on the air

Great show Meghan, great tracks - your 4th of July was no wasted :)

Thanks!

RE: swag, havent a clue when my stuff will arrive, just know I'll get a big kick out of it when it does - in the meantime, WFMU is on the air and I'm happy
  8:58am
fred von helsing:

great stuff :-D free the beer !
  8:58am
Caryn:

Well, Meghan, it's not as if there's not other stuff to listen to, what with WFMU here and all the other swag, and our own record collections. So the swag can take it's time, and we're fine.
  8:59am
Ellen:

aw, show is over :( That was super-great though, thanks :D
