A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

  9:19am trouble:

good morning! i am totally preoccupied with why the image won't work and i just have to say eff it at this point, need to play music, not worry about lack of a gorgeous image
  9:20am Verde23:

Trouble, I checked out Meeks Cutoff last week. Enjoyed it a lot. thanks for the movie tip.

  9:21am kat330:

  9:22am Andrew Waterloo:

It is a great image
  9:24am Robgee:

Great Show! Listening to it in the evening here in Vietnam...Really fits the mood...
  9:24am Andrew Waterloo:

Trouble, could it be the & between the link and the closing bracket?
  9:25am Ampersand:

Yeah, I don't belong here.
  9:26am Ampersand:

I'm a creep.
  9:27am Andrew Waterloo:

@Ampersand You can stay, we just need you to change your seat. It's a fire zone.
  9:30am Cheri Pi:

  9:30am kat330:

Yes, Harlem Nocturne twice in two days here at FMU! :)
  9:30am Priscilla:

Yay! Working now.
  9:31am Parq:

*Love* that Lizards version of "Nocturne", a great track from a great album. Saw them do it live at Squat on W.23rd, which is now an upscale restaurant next to a chain multiplex. Sigh.
  9:31am Verde23:

  9:32am kat330:

Followed by Ms. Nina -- really rolling now, T.!

just needed to find the copy of what it should look like...phew. refresh peeps refresh. Vietnam and philadelphia in the house, yee ha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am trouble:

today's artist is louise bourgeoise, from her later fabric series
  9:34am kat330:

@Parq: After hearing fxo's spin yesterday morn, I was looking online for the version of Harlem Nocturne I'd determined my fave. Didn't relocate it yet, but the Lizards is might fine.
  9:37am Parq:

Kat, you need this. The rest of you might dig it, too. If the tiny doesn't work, let me know and I'll post the un-tiny.

  9:39am Cecile:

hi, all.

No kidding, Trouble? That will be interesting!!!
  9:39am kat330:

Thanks, Parq! A quick glance, Johnny Otis pops out as the one. FMU folks is the bestest! :)

Haven't subjected any unsuspecting guests to Fishing with John in awhile..
  9:40am Cecile:

I have to say I am partial to the Earl Bostic version. It's so sassy.
  9:40am Pat in Philadelphia:

What?! John Lurie on the air! How exciting. Last I heard from that New Yorker article was he was a bit of a recluse.
  9:42am Cheri Pi:

I heart Bertrand!
  9:43am pgw in mntclr:

i haven't subjected myself to "Fishing with John" in a while
  9:46am Pat in Philadelphia:

Fishing with John is so great. I think my favorite is probably the Willam DaFoe episode.
  9:46am Fermi:

I miss making "Fission With Enrico."
  9:46am Cecile:

Cheri Pi, I watched the VH1 Classic show on Power Metal and thought of you.
  9:47am Andrew Waterloo:

Willam DaFoe and the Tom Waits episode
  9:49am Cecile:

This makes me think about fishing with my dad.
I am so renting a charter next summer. He can't pilot the boat no more.
  9:51am YouTube:

"This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by John Lurie, Lagarto Productions."
  9:54am kat330:

Johnny Otis 'tis! My ears are yours, Trouble, but my fingers are off to make a bigass potato salad. Back in some few.
  9:55am Van in DC:

Holy retinal burn! Hi there trouble
  9:56am Priscilla:

I made a warm lentil potato salad (from Joy of Cooking) that was so fabulous. It tastes like mashed potato salad.
  9:58am Cecile:

yummmmmm, priscilla.

back in a bit.
  9:59am margo:

Started a little late moving cars and chairs around but will be with you for the next hour. :)

  10:02am ╬▓rian:

Aren't you going to credit the birds?
  10:05am Cheri Pi:

yes Trouble! I love his column in the Guardian.
  10:09am Vivian:

Morning Trouble! How are your chickens handling the heat? I apologize if you discussed it this morning, I had a situation to resolve.
  10:11am erella inToronto:

This lime green is difficult to read. Who is this Bobbi Houston doing the bread cover? Not Whitney's daughter Bobbi, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am trouble:

the chickens are weathering just fine vivian. although they are a little daft. when i put a bowl of water out for them in the yard they acted as if they were parched, meanwhile there was a water tank feet away...
  10:27am Patrick:

Man I love this album! Has the ice pack motorcade arrived yet? Hope everyone weathered the land hurricane ok on friday. Columbus got hammered..

  10:38am kwhitehead:

Speaking of loud hardcore records, he might be interested in Minor Threat's version of this song!
  10:38am cokane:

Play him the Minor Threat version of Stepping Stone
  10:40am Vivian:

Or just play him Minor Threat, period!
  10:41am Priscilla:

Patrick, have you turned into Too Much Coffee?
  10:42am Writing assignment:

Try writing your review in the style of Post Modern Academic drivel -- just for fun. Remember it has to be plausible, ridiculous, and grammatically correct.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am trouble:

just gave icepack my "out of step " t shirt, along with rollins band, search and destroy. they fit him better...
  10:49am Cecile:

I recommend Scream Still Screaming and Die Kruezen's first. While we're at it, why not Prayers on Fire by the Birthday Party?
  10:49am Cecile:

The HC kids in my neighborhood were just as huge Cure and Birthday Party fans.
  10:50am Cecile:

AND - the great lost garage/HC record of the 80s - the Left's "Hell: It's the World".
  10:52am Patrick:

Sorry I'm posting while standing on a ladder and have fat fingers.
  10:52am Priscilla:

Oh Evie Sands!
  10:54am Patrick:

Had I not sold all my early 90's hardcore t shirts I would donate them to the cause. Had a great Rollins shirt and a sonic youth/sonic death one
  10:56am Cecile:

I still have some - I was going to make a quilt with them someday.
  10:56am kat330:

OK, pot. salad marinating in fridge. Thanks for the kitchen sound incentive, Trouble!
  10:58am kat330:

@Priscilla: Scrolled up to see your yummy version. I love lentils, but JT (husband) isn't such a fan.
  10:58am Cecile:

OK, where to start with evie sands?

Kat, ha, the glorious fourth salad ritual. I made macaroni salad for something going on tonight.
  10:59am kat330:

I always like getting it done the day before so all the seasoning can really be soaked up by the potatoes.
  11:00am Cecile:

exactly. You have to let them sit, and then adjust the seasoning cause the cold takes away some of the spice.
  11:01am kat330:

Unless a brand new recipe I'm trying, I eyeball amounts and improvise with whatever's on hand. But basic ingredients include: About 5 lbs. cubed cooked red potatoes (w/skins), chopped celery and onion (green from the garden today, but otherwise might use red or vidalia), fresh parsley (but dried if fresh unavail.) dabs of pickle relish and a couple chopped grilled brats/sausages.

Seasonings/dressing ingredients include curry powder, sea salt, fresh ground pepper and paprika w/ spritz' of vinegar (red wine w/acai pomegranate infusion was on hand), dijon mustard and mayo, all to taste and to create the right consistency. Other ingredients I'd add if avail. are chopped bell pepper (I instead used extra paprika today) and a couple of chopped boiled eggs.
  11:03am kat330:

I realize no one asked for a recipe, but I recall some FMU DJ talking about making his first potato salad some weeks ago and thought I'd share. :)
  11:04am Cecile:

oooh, sausages. mmmmmmm.
  11:05am kat330:

Again, that's only if I already have them on hand.
  11:07am kat330:

Aww, happy birthday, Trouble! How old is your sweetie there?
  11:09am pgw in mntclr:

she was also, long ago, in a shoegaze-y band called Slumber #BreakingOutMyPhillyBackInTheDayStuff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09am trouble:

kat330, dj icepack is 11.
  11:10am kat330:

A real chip off the ol' Trouble shoulder! And again scrolling back to what I missed, thanks for the Ottolenghi link!
  11:11am Bas, NL:

I have to order that album by Meg Baird..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am trouble:

  11:30am kat330:

Geoff & Maria Muldaur's daughter I found out yesterday on Irene's show.
  11:31am Cecile:

I dont' usually like this type of singer-songwriter music, but she has a real flair. and her band is great.
  11:32am Cecile:

hahahaha The replacements used to cover this a hell of a lot back in the day.
  11:34am seang:

Did you see alot of Mats shows Cecile?
  11:36am Cecile:

I saw six or seven. Not bad considering.
  11:38am dc pat:

phew! Just got our power back finally. no more warm beer, sweat-drenched sleeping, and losing everything...
  11:39am Cecile:

  11:39am kat330:

Hey, pat!! Finally another DC-er checking in!
  11:40am kat330:

Sorry to hear you have had it rough, but glad you're alive and kicking.
  11:42am dc pat:

yeah it sucked but also fun hanging with the neighbors, etc. I wonder if the other DCers are without power still....
  11:43am kat330:

So far Chris, BSI and Van have checked in OK.
  11:44am kat330:
