Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

It was an LP that tought young musicians how to improvise. I have always treasured the record and I am grateful for my wonderful music teachers that I had when I was young.

Styx  Mother Dear   Options Equinox  A&M  1975  LP  The last of the pre-Tommy Shaw Styx LP's (their 5th). Came out 5 months before I graduated, hence my devotion and love.
Thank you for checking out this episode of The Dusty Show. I hope you liked it. I enjoyed this one. I like to find old records when I can. I never spend too much. My tastes have changed so much over the years, until finally, it may be that I have no taste at all! And I don't mind. I hope you don't. Umm .... what else ... ? Don't forget to chime-in with an email. You've been slacking of late and it's imperative that you weigh-in. dusty@wfmu.org ----- I need to wrap this up. These playlists take FOREVER to complete.   6:02pm Matt from Springfield:

The Say Hey Clay Kid!
  6:02pm kata:

hi Clay !
  6:02pm kata:

whats up Matt !
  6:03pm Cecile:

Pablo Cruise had hits with Love Will Find A Way, and also a cover of Peter Allen's I Go To Rio. There was another one, I gotta look that up...
  6:04pm Matt from Springfield:

The Supreme Court *deliberately* chose to announce the Health Care verdict on Thursday morning: to PREVENT you from doing timely street interviews on the topic!!

Hi kata, hi Cecile!
  6:04pm Cecile:

Also, Whatcha Gonna Do, and A Place in the Sun.
Avatar 6:04pm Kamikaze:

Hello all! Cecile, thanks. Fab and I smiled.
  6:04pm too much coffee:

evening, hippies!
  6:04pm Matt from Springfield:

@Cecile: Knew we could count on you for Pablo Cruise :)
  6:04pm too much coffee:

i'm lovin that definition of jersey, btw
Avatar 6:05pm Kamikaze:

That's right, Matt.
  6:05pm Cecile:

Avatar 6:06pm Clay:

  6:06pm Obama:

Oh Happy Day! Sorry Eric.
  6:06pm david:

  6:06pm Cecile:

Cory Booker!
Avatar 6:08pm Clay:

Thanks David ... that was Kenny G. Not 'our' Kenny G.
  6:08pm Cecile:

"I got no problem with no Puritans! Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday!"
  6:09pm Ike:

I've voted for Cory Booker three times now, but even *I* have to say, his frequent superhero thing is a little odd. He must be listening to police radio and responding when in the area, I guess. And there's an ugly mess with the Newark water utility that I can barely begin to understand....
Avatar 6:10pm Clay:

Hey Ike. Long time no see.
  6:10pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Was the last interviewee a bit bothered by you Clay?
  6:11pm Cecile:

I think he could pull back a little. He runs the risk of spreading himself too thin.
  6:11pm too much coffee:

awe clay yer makin me all dewey eyed w/ these vintage 2008 obama chestnuts!
  6:11pm Ike:

Hey there, Pidge! I always especially enjoy your conversations with Fabio.
  6:11pm david:

did I miss where that Shakti was flea market found?
  6:11pm Matt from Springfield:

"reinforcing existing trends"...which they started...rinse, repeat. repeat...
Avatar 6:12pm Clay:

No Phillip. We got along well. Hanging out by Madison Square Garden.
  6:12pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Good good!
  6:12pm Cecile:

Isn't that a cover of Herman's Hermits?
Avatar 6:12pm Clay:

25th St. Manhattan, David. Outdoor.
  6:12pm Steely Dan King:

Everyone's Gone to the Moon-vies
  6:13pm Bad Ronald:

Hey Clay, great show. Loved your latest fill-in for Irene. "Ode to Billy Joe" is one of my all-time faves and is guaranteed to squeeze a tear or two out of this hardened a-hole every time! Keep up the good work. Peace and eternal reflection!
  6:13pm Matt from Springfield:

Didn't know they had outdoor flea markets in Manhattan. Public park? In Chelsea?
  6:13pm darue:

oh, I had thought this was a Chad & Jeremy original, but no, Johnathan King it is! thanks o/
  6:14pm nyoukis:

ah King,,,, the Yanks answer to Tam Paton,, the heady daze of the 60's/70's, when a wee fiddle with a minor was just part of the showbiz world.
  6:14pm Cecile:

I guess not. I will have to disabuse my huaband of that believe.
Bad Ron!
  6:14pm Phillip in San Antonio:

I still need to see that film Bad Ronald.
  6:14pm Matt from Springfield:

Peace-and-Eternal-Reflection Ronald!
Avatar 6:14pm Clay:

Is it Cecile? You're probably right. That record had Johnathon King on one side and Englebert on the other (just the label). Never encountered that before. Mis-labeling.
  6:14pm david:

sweet. thanks as always for sharing these FFFs with us
  6:14pm Bad Ronald:

Cecile! I trust you are well.
  6:14pm nyoukis:

  6:15pm Cecile:

nope, you are right. it's his song and his hit.
  6:15pm rob:

Hi Clay, Im way late but here!
  6:15pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Does anyone remember the movie, "Welcome Home Jellybean"?
  6:16pm Bad Ronald:

@ MfS - They are all over. (open air flea mkts)
Avatar 6:16pm Clay:

Nyoukis is right. King got in a scandal later in life. Read it on WIKI.
Avatar 6:16pm Clay:

Hey Rob!
  6:17pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Old CBS after school special. That made me think of "Bad Ronald" the other day.
  6:17pm Matt from Springfield:

Good to know the Police have the money and time to lock up people for 4 months on incense charges..
  6:17pm paula pc:

this guy seems to be caught in the "perfect" storm
  6:17pm Matt from Springfield:

@rob: Fear not, you're three-quarters here!
  6:17pm nyoukis:

yeah he got into a 'scandal'... was busted smoking incense... oh wait...

Avatar 6:20pm Clay:

I was supposed to be, get this ... Cherry.
  6:20pm nyoukis:

is there a chance that maybe this year, 2012, that folks might take to the streets of USA and riot?? or is that far off?? I wouldnt be surprise if there is some major civil unrest here in the UK this year,, the tory boot is on the neck. I do hope it kicks off.
  6:20pm david:

these interviews help me understand how we're all one tiny misstep / mistake away from these type of hard luck situations
  6:20pm Philo Gristle:

Hi Clay! Having streaming problems here.... anyone else?
  6:21pm Matt from Springfield:

  6:21pm dale:

lovin' the soupy!!!
  6:22pm kat330:

Can't get the stream here. Anyone else?
  6:22pm too much coffee:

"when you hold me, when you unfold me"... ooh!
  6:22pm Cecile:

gotta go, but great show today.
have a great evening everyone!
  6:22pm Matt from Springfield:

Hi OD! Philo! kat! Phillip! All others I haven't greeted yet!
Avatar 6:22pm Clay:

I wouldn't predict it, Nyoukis. I am kind of guardedly ecstatic about Obamacare passing. Sure, the threw 'us' a bone, but, it's better than a deflating strike-down.
  6:22pm Matt from Springfield:

G'night Cecile!
  6:22pm too much coffee:

kat330: yup! crystal clear!
Avatar 6:22pm Clay:

Hi Dale, and everyone I missed. I am trying to keep up.
  6:23pm Ike:

No streaming problems at my office.
  6:23pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Hello all!
Avatar 6:23pm Clay:

By Cecile. Have a good weekend.
  6:24pm other david:

Listening on the 32k stream, fine here.

Cya Cecile!

Agreed David, most of us are just a whisker away from falling into the poverty trap - just takes one thing to go wrong, be it health, wrong place at the wrong time, whatever..

And that's why I'm some flavour of socialist.
  6:24pm dale:

90.1 signal keeps cutting out. i've already pestered ken sufficiently.
  6:24pm Philo Gristle:

Hi Matt, everyone else! Switched to 32k and it's fine. 128 stuttered and sputtered then died.
Avatar 6:24pm Clay:

This show is all-cassette. I am always wrestling with the speed-control here. Trying to match my deck's motor with the WFMU cassette deck motor.
  6:25pm Fredericks:

Hey Clay and Pidgers.
  6:25pm Matt from Springfield:

Oh wonderful Clay--got some timely news snippets in after all!
(As long as they were released before 3 pm Thursday, eh? ;)
  6:25pm david:

amen other david, I myself am a proud boysenberry socialist :)
Avatar 6:25pm Clay:

Frederixx. Really glad you're here, bro.
  6:26pm Matt from Springfield:

128k doin' fine here, or at least nothing out of the ordinary.

Fredericks! And STUART SMILEY! What a party this is tonight!
  6:26pm Phillip in San Antonio:

  6:26pm paula pc:

I adore Al Franken but always hated the Stuart Smalley character...seemed too mean to me, sorry
  6:26pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Or wait... Senator?
Avatar 6:26pm Clay:

Good ear, Matthias!
  6:27pm other david:

Howdy Matt, Clay and all!

@david: HAH!
Avatar 6:28pm Clay:

  6:28pm paula pc:

Avatar 6:28pm Clay:

  6:28pm david:

Proud Pidger People for life!
Avatar 6:28pm Clay:

  6:29pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Only Bernie Sanders could save us now.
  6:29pm Matt from Springfield:

Seconded, paula! Even finer FMF selections than usual Clay!
This Governor is KILLER!!
  6:29pm Ike:

They're definitely killing something, that's for sure. ;)
  6:30pm david:

Bernie rocked the house (well, Senate) yesterday, didn't he PiSA?
  6:30pm dale:

clay, not even a c60?
  6:30pm Carmichael:

Hey Clay! In and out today. Keep on a'rockin me, baby.
  6:30pm Fredericks:

Now we're getting somewhere. Bullfrog!
Avatar 6:30pm Clay:

Ha Ha Ike!
  6:30pm Phillip in San Antonio:

I love the flip to side 2 songtime!
  6:31pm Matt from Springfield:

@Phillip: I heart heart heart <3 Bernie! Senator Sanders!

Not only is he a fine Social Democrat, and the only one in elected office at the national level, but he is an independent, rational and very civil politician. Almost too good to be true.
Avatar 6:31pm Clay:

That hair-band rock was from BODINE.
  6:31pm dunners:

What was that heavy rock track a few minutes back?
  6:32pm Matt from Springfield:

The "Jeremiah--Bullfrog--Friend" remix! Love it, knocked it out of the park!
Avatar 6:32pm Clay:

Bodine - Black Star Rising
  6:32pm dunners:

  6:33pm Phillip in San Antonio:

I have seriously debated on if i should leave Texas to go to Vermont.
Avatar 6:33pm Clay:

Had a great time Monday guest-hosting for Irene. It's archived on the Dusty Show page if you're interested.
  6:33pm david:

What's that line about hope in Shawshank Redemption?
  6:34pm Matt from Springfield:

"Texas money"--interestingly enough, the term "Astroturf group" was coined by the late Lloyd Bentsen of Texas: a phony "grassroots" group that is actually bankrolled by moneyed interests. Houston Astros and Astrodome and Astroturf.
Avatar 6:34pm Clay:

Vermont rules, Phillip.
  6:34pm Ike:

Yeah, that remix was OK!

This interviewee points out that Citizens United is bad at the local level too. For lots of detail on that (in NC, in this case) from the New Yorker:
  6:34pm Phillip in San Antonio:

And Bernie Sanders has bad ass hair too! I like when he doesn't bother to comb it. He's genuine.
  6:34pm Philo Gristle:

Any jobs in Vermont these days?
  6:35pm Matt from Springfield:

Must be cheesemaking jobs up there. Ask Wendy del Formaggio!
Avatar 6:36pm Clay:

You can work at Ben and Jerry's!
  6:37pm dale:

i LOVED jaime summers. and her bionic doggy, too
  6:37pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Are you guys defending Texas?
  6:38pm david:

I see lots of Sanders-esque windswept grey hair on older Vermonters. seems only they can pull it off...
  6:39pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Has anybody seen recently post Irene Vermont?
  6:40pm nyoukis:

you can tell is all smitten and aroused here.
  6:40pm nyoukis:

clay!! did you just as her if she would 'pull the leaver'?
  6:40pm Philo Gristle:

Everything dairy? No cheese or ice cream pour moi, being lactose intolerant! If Obamacare comes through, even freelancing could be an option... but for now gotta have a steady dayjob to get coverage.
  6:40pm kat330:

The VT job suggestions definitely have a dairy air.
  6:41pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Raw milk cures lactose intolerance.
  6:41pm Matt from Springfield:

@kat330: Play on words! I want to be the first to call it! :D
  6:41pm nyoukis:

my typing is suffering. its late evening in the UK. I like her advice though.
Avatar 6:42pm Clay:

Dairy Air? hahahahahahaha!
  6:42pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Luckily our raw milk is still legal here.
  6:42pm david:

PiSA - as of a few months ago downtown Brattleboro was looking pretty good, despite having been submerged... i did see a lot broken down on the outskirts though, but perhaps that's always existed to some extent (like Sanders' hair)
  6:43pm kat330:

@Matt: That's all I can do. Any jobs in "wordplay" in VT? [actually I lived there for a couple of years in the early '70s]
  6:43pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Hehe, good metaphor david.
  6:44pm Fredericks:

Hello Clay, Matt and Pidger-David. I borrowed "Pidger" from Kat-Woman.
  6:44pm Matt from Springfield:

Yeah! Clay's been taking out some UDB Music lately!
(Clay: Get Berlin's "Metro" song! Or any of their pre-"Take My Breath Away" stuff!)
  6:45pm Matt from Springfield:

Um, just want to say that "Matthew Silver" is *not* me....:)
  6:45pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Still no Herb Alpert, "Rise"?
  6:45pm kat330:

@Fredericks: So you *did* get the email? Wasn't sure since I saw no reply. Good, then!
  6:45pm Fredericks:

Got any Jerry Lee style Rock and Roll?
  6:45pm rob:

I love this crazy matthew dude
  6:46pm Phillip in San Antonio:

This guy is talking directly to us.
  6:46pm blee:

Eight hugs a day!
  6:46pm rob:

  6:46pm seang:

it's all about eye contact
  6:46pm Fredericks:

Sorry, Kat, I was distracted by Debby.
  6:46pm kat330:

@OD: How's the London dairy air? [can't stop myself]
  6:47pm Ike:

Wait, how many hugs a day? That sounds all right to me.
  6:47pm paula pc:

That dude was RIGHTEOUS
  6:47pm Listener Dave from Seattle:

He needs a few more years of crazy practice.
  6:47pm nyoukis:

"we're not a 100% crappy!"
  6:47pm Fredericks:

I'm with Rob on that one.
  6:48pm Phillip in San Antonio:

We are the 99 percenters of crappy.
  6:49pm Fredericks:

Not the Jersey, the Mathew.
  6:50pm Listener Dave from Seattle:

He kind of sounded like Fredericks :)
  6:50pm Matt from Springfield:

@Seattle Dave: He could use lessons from the Rev. Billy! THAT'S a performer/activist to emulate!
  6:51pm paula pc:

it's just all sounding more and more dire
  6:51pm Fredericks:

Keeping the Florida connection. For better or worse.
  6:51pm Phillip in San Antonio:

The Reverend is an enforcer!
Avatar 6:51pm Clay:

Andy will be along soon. Thanks for listening y'all. I really appreciate it. Hope you have a good weekend ahead. Until next time, take care and ... always remember!
  6:52pm Dan Carlos:

Man, this girl's story is heatrbreaking.
  6:52pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Good work as always!
  6:52pm paula pc:

as always, very thought-provoking and humbling. thank you, Clay
  6:52pm kat330:

She's reminding me of Ellen Page as Juno.
  6:53pm Matt from Springfield:

@paula: Though, this is a return to form for Clay: before Occupy this was the very heart-tugging homeless/street person type of interview Clay was the only person on radio doing. It's this sort of "real" experience that led him to OWS during it's first week to begin with.
  6:53pm Phillip in San Antonio:

Night everybody!
  6:53pm rob:

I remember.......I remember.........I remember the acid! Good night Clay!
  6:54pm blee:

I hope everything works out for this poor young girl.
  6:54pm SteveL:

Damn. I love Clay Pigeon's style, his open, non-threatening directness.
  6:54pm paula pc:

@ matt -- d'accord
  6:54pm blee:

Only one of the Beach Boys surfed, and I am pretty sure it's the one who drowned. :(
  6:54pm paula pc:

@ matt -- d'accord
  6:55pm seang:

Surf's up baby
  6:55pm david:

Man, I thought that other guy's story was going to be the toughest of the hour.... but then that 19-year old girl, woman I should say...
  6:56pm kat330:

Things seem so much harder now than when I was her age, and yet I slept in a doghouse (large one at least) and did whatever it took to get by. It's all a learning experience is the least that can be said.
  6:57pm Matt from Springfield:

Excellent show tonight Clay! Thanks everyone else for stopping by this thrilling "premiere"! :)

Remembered always!
  6:57pm kat330:

Thanks, Clay, and g'night all good folk! Kauniita unia!
  6:58pm other david:

Great show Clay, thank you.

G'night folks.
  7:01pm Fredericks:

That seemed short. Very good sign.
  5:19pm drewo:

I saw UK at the Palladium on 14th St. back around '78! Thanks Clay.
