A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Perfect for a languid Tuesday morning.
  9:14am northguineahills:

super hi fi, this is new to me.... very nice...
  9:17am MD:

Yeah...the weather is like a tease for the fall...but summer just started. Good Morning
  9:18am Mike East:

my cab driver was from nepal last night. we discussed the best places to see the sunset. Good morning and good sounds, trouble.
  9:18am D in Miami:

This great for a lazy morning. Morning all!
  9:22am Van in DC:

What a lovely opening set this has been so far!
  9:29am Braveness23:

It's a glorious morning in Cincinnati but Trouble is on the horizon
  9:37am yayson:

another velvet morning
  9:39am jaw:

what was the movie name?
  9:40am northguineahills:

How did I miss that Yo La Tengo album?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am trouble:

meek's cutoff is the name of the movie, i got it on netflix
  9:47am ffrr:

Good morning all. 'Meek's Cutoff' is a wonderful film. The copy I saw was in the old 4:3 ratio, was wondering if they released it that way. Hey T, any thoughts on Melody Gardot? Can't recall if you've ever played her.
  9:49am jaw:

Trouble has turned me onto so much great music, and art, how could she be any less than great at film?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am trouble:

hey ffrr, i have been carrying your georgia cd along in my bag for weeks and haven't played it yet, thanks so much for thinking of me! @Jaw, that is kind of you to say. i have to reveal i have huge patience for slow in film! this film is gorgeous and slow; what i liked best about it, actually.
  9:58am Cecile:

good morning!
  9:58am Jennique:

Good morning Troublette. Nice painting of the beach. Funny coincidence, as I was typing this note I got an all staff email that read:
Public Programs has approximately 4.4 Gallons of unopened Purified Sea Water for Aquariums (see attached) up for grabs. Please email this address to claim.
Thank you.
  10:00am Vivian:

Morning all! Trouble, how are the chickens doing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am trouble:

ha! go claim that sea water girl! make your own beach this afternoon, high up in the stairwells...btw i am still taking very good care of your bird book. you must come out soon and visit with the chickens!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am trouble:

the chickens are getting along swimmingly vivian, thanks!
  10:02am Braveness23:

What breed of birds do you have, Trouble?
  10:03am Rob W:

Great new Niyaz song. I like these guys - ethereal dark Iranian traditional / classical (this song is also spiritual) mixed with electronics. They're playing at Drom in NY 7/22, outdoors in Atlantic City (!) Kennedy Plaza 7/25 and have other tour dates after that (listed here): http://www.niyazmusic.com/#!/tour-dates/
  10:03am Jacques:

Swimmingly...Chickens of the Sea? I know where you can get some purified seawater.
  10:05am Cecile:

Trouble, you have to hear theGeneral Johnson version of this (he wrote the song). Did you ever watch Sanford and Son? There's a whole bit that's all "Elizabeth, I'm going to join ya!" It's hysterical.
  10:05am Cheri Pi:

Patches-this is such a tearjerker.
  10:06am Cecile:

  10:06am Braveness23:

wow, that bucket o' sea water would make a fantastic brine for curing pork.
  10:06am Cecile:

you tube link to GJ's version. It should be sad. But yet I laugh.
  10:07am Mike East:

its not just you, its amazing.
  10:07am Cheri Pi:

I feel like Patches sometimes. braveness23! Cecile!
  10:08am Cecile:

I'm sorry, I'm laughing cause I'm listening to the spoken bit..."talking 'bout a heart attack, yo"
  10:08am Cecile:

hi, cheri!
  10:09am Mike East:

Hey Cheri Pi - headin' back to the post office today. Who knows what awaits? Have you gotten anything yet?
  10:10am Jon:

Oh cool, about the chickens! Some friends and I have started a chicken-raising co-op in Somerville, MA this spring. To urban chickens!
  10:11am Jennique:

D'oh! Too late. Just got another email:

Subject: Purified Sea Water
This item has been claimed.
Thank you,
Public Programs

Would have been a nice beach on the stairs. Will TOTALLY take you up on your offer to come see the hens. Has to be after the 4th of July, though. Mom and step-dad going to be in town for it, but will gone on the 5th.
  10:11am BSI:

It looked to me like the kickstarter campaign had stalled a bit. I threw the URL around the Facebags, but clearly my endorsement aint worth a hillo beans. HILLO BEANS!
  10:13am Jennique:

Facebags! Love it. Still love my friends mom getting her names mixed up with MyFace and Spacebook.
  10:13am lane:

  10:13am Cheri Pi:

No Mike East-not even a hint of Swag to come!!!
  10:14am Rob W:

My nieces in Portland (OR) love their chickens...
  10:14am Braveness23:

Our girls got to free range in the yard last night while I threw a ball for my dog. Occasionally the ball would get thrown near the birds and there would be an explosion of feathers
  10:15am fred von helsing:

  10:15am Jon:

Barred Plymouth Rock. They're beautiful. Does your coop have a door that closes securely at night? If not yeah, raccoons can be pretty good at getting at chickens. But if they're closed up they should be fine.
  10:15am Vivian:

Trouble, I can listen to chicken talk all day...
  10:16am Jon:

In upstate NY there were al kinds of paw prints on my girls' coop in the morning -- raccoons, even coyotes.
  10:16am sugarwolf:

There was a PBS documentary about chickens which my grandma just loooooved.
  10:17am Jennique:

Trouble you need to capture that raccoon and shave his whole body. That'll slow down his charmer ways.
  10:17am Braveness23:

I've had terrible luck with Plymouth Barred Rocks. They are very gentle birds and don't put up much of a fight when the other breeds pick on them. Mine have always been killed by the other birds.
  10:18am D in Miami:

I hate bullying!
  10:18am dale:

hola trouble. raccoons are enterprising little fellows. i had a chain with spring hooks on a metal garbage can with my bird seed (they would chew the bungee cords). the whole chain just went up and missing a few nights ago. i lost about 3 metal suet cake holders, too. can't find them anywhere. i have to bring my hummingbird feeder in now too because they climb my porch post and shimmy over to drink the sweet water.
  10:19am Cecile:

raccoons are wily little bastards.
  10:20am Cheri Pi:

Racoons make loud crazy love in the tree right next to my bed. My dog is not amused to say the least.
  10:21am Braveness23:

CP, does all the love makin' make Eddie Meg a little randy?
  10:22am Cecile:

Cheri, between this and the spoken word break in Patches, I am on the floor. I am a terrible person.
  10:22am Cecile:

Oh, humor, you are so cruel. But hilarious.
  10:23am fred von helsing:

I had Leghorn hens and lil'ol' Banty males. The Banties shepherded the gals around the property, hitting the best worm spots, and crowed back and forth to each other once in a while to keep in touch. Pretty advanced for dinosaurs methinks.
  10:24am Ken the scientist:

Let the wild rumpus begin?
  10:25am Cheri Pi:

No, I'm afraid it leads to her standing on my head with back paws, front paws on top of the headboard and barking her ass off out of the window. at irregular intervals throughout the night.
  10:25am artie shaw:

But who iz ze rumper... und who iz ze rumpee?
  10:25am D in Miami:

Apparently, there's a wild rumpus in the chicken coop today.
  10:26am voice of the henhouse:

Nobody here but us listeners
  10:28am tinaun:

  10:29am Cecile:

this is great stuff.
But Chrome beat 'em to it.
Just had to say that.
The liner notes lie.
  10:29am lane:

this is very harsh for the morning drive time!
  10:29am Cecile:

i actually bought it this weekend.
  10:29am Rooster in Henhouse:

WFM Doodle-UUUU!
  10:29am lane:

ah... sweet melodies return!
  10:30am voice of the henhouse:

@RiH hey there big bird
  10:31am Braveness23:

CP, that sounds an awful lot like how she acted at night when she stayed with us except no raccoon or barking. That dogie is definitely a night owl.
  10:34am Rooster in Henhouse:

Who wants to make solid gold eggs today?
  10:34am Cecile:

they can actually do that without you, dude.
  10:35am Cheri Pi:

Yeah I'm hoping this puppy-hood thing doesn't go on for too many more years, it was a lot worse when she was younger though- nibbling on my hands to try to get me to play with her in my sleep- Oy vay!
  10:36am Foghorn Leghorn:

I do declare it's gettin' a might hot in here!!
  10:36am Ken the scientist:

Oh, chiptune =]
  10:37am too much coffee:

  10:37am too much coffee:

boom!! boom boom!!!
  10:37am Cheri Pi:

Oh mah gawd no they dain't!
  10:38am Eggless23:

I was a hard ass after the first night and enforced a one strike and you're out policy.
  10:38am too much coffee:

truly, this song is presents a pinacle postmodernist perfection
  10:38am George:

Oh NO!!!!
  10:39am Cheri Pi:

I'm a softie.
  10:39am Eggless23:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am trouble:

too much coffee: i agree!!
  10:39am Bacon:

Hey c'mon how about a little love?
  10:40am Priscilla:

I actually bought this record
  10:41am Cecile:

Wow, this is pretty AOR for you, troubs
  10:41am Torbjørn:

Oh, please do tell that there is a video of the Liz & Keili 'Cars that go boom' performace ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am trouble:

telephone 1977! yes very aor cecile, on what planet?
  10:44am Cecile:

It's tough blues rock a la BOC or Fastway or Mama's Boys, or ZZ Top.
All of which saw airplay on AOR. I think it's great.
  10:45am Parq:

Are these bird calls? Sound like the soundtrack to a new creature flick. Rahr.
  10:46am D in Miami:

  10:46am From The Warehouse:

I like the boom, DJ Trouble - esp the Niyaz track. Such a wide cross section of human sounds, NASA should put a disc of yr show on the next trans-Neptunian probe they launch.
  10:48am dc pat:

WANDA! NOW we're talkin... well we were talking before too but now we're REALLLY talkin
  10:51am BSI:

before was chicken talkin'. This is Jason talkin'.
overall that makes it wanda chicken talkin,' which must only be performed under a doctor's supervision.
  10:52am BSI:

sorry, Jackson talkin'.
ah hell, forget it. not enough coffee.
  10:52am too much coffee:

Must. Learn. Spanish!
  10:53am too much coffee:

BSI: but you can fix that
  10:54am BSI:

Fixing now, con gusto...
  10:57am Cecile:

los glug, glug, glug.
  11:01am Cecile:

I think Robert Wyatt should voice a muppet. He would be the greatest one of all.
  11:02am Erella inToronto:

Thank you for this Robert Wyatt song, Trouble. Have you heard the teenaged Whitney Houston version on the Material record?
  11:02am Cecile:

Whitney Houston does a super cover of this on Material's One Down. Archie Shepp played sax.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am trouble:

  11:03am Cecile:

  11:04am Cecile:

trouble, just posted the link for you. and right on erella!
  11:05am Erella inToronto:

The album is called memory Serves I think (if memory serves) (Archie Shepp too!)
  11:06am Cecile:

It's One Down, unless Memory Serves was a compilation.
  11:08am Erella inToronto:

Ah yes, Cecile.
It has a dollar bill on the cover and is mainly blue.
I saw her play here in toronto (before her first record came you) to an audience of about 10 people because I loved that version she did of the Hugh Hopper song and we talked to her about it. (She knew nothing about the song other than it was pretty)
  11:09am Cecile:

Nice, erella! What a great experience that must have been.
  11:12am Cheri Pi:

Oh yes, this was a big radio favorite on KYYX (early 80's Seattle station)
  11:13am too much coffee:

ah, this song would sound good in german ..
  11:14am D in Miami:

Or maybe French?
  11:14am Erella inToronto:

Yes, it was a hoot to meet her because we thought her voice on the record was fantastic. At that time Robert Wyatt was my pen pal and I was enjoying anything that taught me anything about him. I wrote him a fan letter that was very sweetly artistic. He responded and we corresponded for a long while. Maybe a couple years. It was really fun.
  11:16am D in Miami:

That's cool, Erella. Would a pen pal be called a key pal these days?
  11:19am onemanclapping:

Durutti Column <3 Thank you for this great show!
  11:19am Eggless23:

Love Durutti Column!
  11:20am Erella inToronto:

D in Miami, that is really funny.
I wonder if he has email yet. I know that as recently as a couple years ago he was still a hold out as a luddite though I think the internet would be the best thing for an information junkie paraplegic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am trouble:

you are welcome one man clapping! i just plopped down 25 clams for this vinyl only never will be reissued jobber, but it is soooo great!
  11:22am windy city:

  11:23am D in Miami:

Good point, Erella. I held out without a cellphone til 2009, but the net drew me in years ago for all the info.
  11:30am Emily:

I love this song
  11:31am Sometimes Jasmine:

omg I must go home and watch Rosemary's Baby immediately.
  11:32am Andrew:

What kind of birds are these?
  11:33am dc pat:

I held out till 2010 D! Hah, I won....or lost... Doesn't really matter cuz I use it all the time now...
  11:33am onemanclapping:

I've been buying some vinyl re-issues from Durutti Column, really expensive tho!
  11:34am Van in DC:

Oh. Is THAT what "ost" means on these playlists all the time? Original Sound Track? Ha! I never knew. (yes do I feel stupid!)
  11:35am D in Miami:

Thanks for not playing D.C.!
  11:35am Cecile:

Play On Our Own from Ghostbusters 2. That's the jam.

What did you think of Jemaine Clement as the viliian. Loved him. But I didn't think there were nearly enough villians in the 3rd movie. They are my favorite part.
  11:36am dc pat:

fruit for breakfast, 15 miles at 16.4 avg speed, I'm freakin STARVING!! c'mooooon lunch!
  11:36am Cecile:

  11:36am too much coffee:

yup, that's what OST means usually
  11:36am D in Miami:

DCP, my phone never rings. Does that mean I don't have friends? :(

  11:46am D in Miami:

Yeah, texting's not that bad. I don't like talking on the phone either. I prefer person-to-person contact.
  11:46am Cecile:

that's true, but I kind of hate them both. I like IM'ing, but i need a nice chair to concentrate. LOL.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49am trouble:

Not much into Santigold, but this gets better the second time 'round.
  11:51am still b/p:

The folks texting, or playing Words With Friends and Ninja Fruit while in a group that's gathered for some other purpose seem to put extra emphasis on their boredom or their indifference or their distraction. (Seen it in a group a lot in last couple of weeks.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am trouble:

LLoved 1st santigold disc, 2nd left me cold until i listened to it LOTS and now i dig it! she even changed the spelling of her name on this one..."i"instead of "o"
  11:53am Cecile:

I will play games til the cows come home, but I don't do it in a group unless there's a break where everyone is kind of on their own.

It's pretty rude.
  11:53am Julian Drago:

Ahhhhhh, as a Puerto Rican you have no idea how happy this Fania All Stars is making me!!! I'm texting family to tell them to tune in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am trouble:

  11:54am Jennique:

Big Santigold fan. Found out she had to change the spelling as there was a conflict with one of the "Cash for gold" outfits that had the rights to the Sant"o"gold spelling.
  11:55am Cecile:

Yup Jennique, and also Santo Gold's Blood Circus with I think has something to do with the gold stuff as well.
