This could be a tribute. Poor Clyde died before 40 of the effects of alcohol abuse that got out of hand after his popularity waned badly.
Sun. 4/29/12 12:57am Matt from Springfield:

@G: You're right, a sad young death. Didn't know about him, but check this: "perhaps the most widely imitated R&B singer of the 1950s and 1960s, making him a key figure in the shaping of doo-wop and R&B. He had high-pitched tenor, that was steeped in the gospel music he sang in much of his younger life. He is best known for his solo hit "A Lover's Question"."
Sun. 4/29/12 12:59am Matt from Springfield:

Carole King, also recorded that herself on the Tapestry album.

Sun. 4/29/12 1:14am Matt from Springfield:

You're playing music of "both kinds--Country AND Western!"
I love that quote, though I only think of that when I hear a song that is much more Western, than country :)

Tell it, Tammy! Men is dawgs!
Sun. 4/29/12 1:17am Matt from Springfield:

Thanks for this "traditional" Misirlou--you hear Dick Dale's wild version and you can imagine how it was once a Greek/Med folk song, but this is an ear-opener as to how the original folk song must have sounded: slow, swaying shuffling dance.
Sun. 4/29/12 1:18am Matt from Springfield:

Eastern Bloc Funk Experience! Many MANY more encores to that comp!!

TAMBURITZA TAMBURITZA TAMBURITZA TAMBURITZA TAMBURITZA!!!!....
Avatar    Sun. 4/29/12 1:22am Joe McG:

@Matt: Almost went into Misirlou mode, but I'll save that for another time....
Sun. 4/29/12 1:22am Matt from Springfield:

...TAMBURITZA! Did I mention I'm thrilled you're playing Tamburitza music??! My heritage is part Slovenian, but THIS is exactly the music that represents that!! 7.8 out of 5 stars!!!
Sun. 4/29/12 1:25am Matt from Springfield:

I saved various LPs at my grandmother's house from oblivion and obscurity, and now secure all the locally (Steelton PA area) produced tamburitza records at my home now! (When you see an album cover of 4 aging guys, in traditional garb, on a street corner in Steelton, with the name "Joey and the Slovenians"...well you just have to grab it!)
Sun. 4/29/12 1:26am Matt from Springfield:

Incidentally, there are so many different versions and styles of "Misirlou", that would be a good candidate for a Joy in Repetition show, or at least a whole set.
Avatar    Sun. 4/29/12 1:29am Joe McG:

@Matt: Love the tamburitza story, Matt, and I like the Misirlou idea very much. I think I've only done 2 or 3 versions in a row, but a whole show would be outstanding.
Sun. 4/29/12 1:40am Matt from Springfield:

Always appreciate a ChOTB song other than their big hit, thanks.
Avatar    Sun. 4/29/12 1:41am Joe McG:

I like that one, despite the fact that it's basically "I bought you dinner, so you have to have sex with me" song.
Sun. 4/29/12 1:51am Matt from Springfield:

The always pretty voice of Mary Hopkin, but wow what a weird song. Vaguely anti-war, I suppose?
Avatar    Sun. 4/29/12 1:52am Joe McG:

Yes, I'd say so. Not sure who is singing the song, exactly. A general?
Sun. 4/29/12 1:53am Matt from Springfield:

Well worn 45, limping to the Grooveyard!
I always thought that lead/backing vocal combination was an interesting innovation--I don't know of anyone who's copied that particular "Bad Boy..." since then.
Avatar    Sun. 4/29/12 1:54am Joe McG:

That may be the roughest 45 I've ever played on the air. Jeez, it didn't sound so lousy at home! Just goes to show what good equipment can do: Make something sound worse!
Sun. 4/29/12 1:56am Matt from Springfield:

Ha ha, Joe!
I thought the subject of "International" would be a "end is nigh" prophet having a vision, but I'll have to go back and see what I think.
Sun. 4/29/12 1:56am Matt from Springfield:

Yes, we DO have feelings, too!
What a danceable way of communicating that!
  Sun. 4/29/12 1:57am 12539:

This song makes me...I can't put it into words.
Sun. 4/29/12 1:59am Matt from Springfield:

If the record doesn't say so, "International" was composed by Gallagher and Lyle (Benny and Graham), the Scottish folk duo.
Sun. 4/29/12 2:01am Matt from Springfield:

A *successful* Single File! A wild swerving flight through space and time!
Sun. 4/29/12 2:08am Matt from Springfield:

WOW! Another FMU triumph over good taste!! ;)
Sun. 4/29/12 2:10am Matt from Springfield:

I DID like to hear that, thanks! :)
My guess is he over-saturated a tape with a sequence of tones, then sped up the tape. That *definitely* beats out Napoleon XIV's reverse-tape B-side for most avant garde and irritating 45!
Sun. 4/29/12 2:13am Matt from Springfield:

THANK YOU JOE!

Now that's what I call late. Hello Joe.
  Sun. 4/29/12 2:56am Marmalade ktty:

Gallipoli - legs used to be.. great rhyme there. I haven't heard the original written by Eric bogle have to check it!
Sun. 4/29/12 2:57am Matt from Springfield:

@MK: Eric Bogle's version is excellent. It's more minimalist folk, less of an arrangement but very emotional vocals.
Sun. 4/29/12 2:59am Matt from Springfield:

Good night Joe! Everybody! Hear ya next week!
(Don't worry Joe, there ain't no such thing as a License to Freeform!)

Hey Joe, finally listening live, and loving it!
