Listener comments!

  3:02pm Cecile:

Malo es muy bueno.
Gotta run, back later!
  3:03pm G:

Malo, feat. Carlos Santana's brother...
  3:04pm Carmichael:

If you can't get Carlos, Jorge's always ready. Hiya Kurt and fellow Minotaurs.
  3:04pm BSI:

  3:04pm G:

Malo's 1972 Top 20 hit single, "Suavecito," was written by timbale player Richard Bean, who initially wrote it as a poem for a girl in his high school algebra class. The song has been called "The Chicano National Anthem."
  3:04pm G:

^^^ [says wiki...]
  3:07pm northguineahills:

Damnit Kurt, I'm going have to catch the archive of Niblock. I really have to get going. Fridays on FMU....sheesh!

25 more minutes, I swear!
  3:07pm steve:

  3:08pm still b/p:

I have pajama pants or lounge pants or whatever the hell they call them that look like the pair on that red-headed woman.
  3:10pm Caryn:

The woman in the middle looks a bit like she could be related to Geldof.
  3:10pm Mike East:

I heard it, then I saw it steve. Pretty cool.
  3:12pm allan:

this song making weird shit happen in my brain
  3:12pm G:

Is that gif from an Osmonds concert?
  3:13pm Middle Chick:

@sb/p: And I look just like a young Amy Pietz.
  3:14pm BSI:

Play this forever, pls.
Thanks & praise,
  3:15pm northguineahills:

I went on my roof, and it was so dern cloudy, I couldn't see any aircraft. The clouds parted after it landed.
  3:15pm Osvi:

Furlough Friday at the library...at least I can listen to MM...
  3:16pm still b/p:

It's from a TV performance of Suavecito. Middle woman introduces the number. Don't know what show, though. Google the song and that's the first link.
Avatar 3:16pm DJKG:

  3:31pm @ Steve 3:07:

  3:34pm Marmalade kitty:

  3:43pm steve:

that funkadelic track wouldve been a great soundtrack... chika chika wowww
  3:44pm Middle Chick:

Man, this is either Fernadelic or Funkafernic.
  3:56pm Caryn:

I had the volume down while I was on the phone, and the earlier bit sounded like a purring cat... I think I'll have to listen to the archive to find out what it actually sounded like.
Avatar 3:56pm DJKG:

those clapping girls are really starting to freak me out.

just sayin'.
  3:56pm steve:

DJKG... when's Elliot Sharp?
Avatar 3:57pm DJKG:

  3:59pm BSI:

Very easy to get the clap here at FMU.
So it would seem.
  4:00pm Middle Chick:

Even turning this down will never sound like purring.
  4:06pm Cecile:

Sharp better pick something good. That's all I'm saying.
Avatar 4:07pm DJKG:

oh, i think he will...
  4:09pm northguineahills:

Needs more stars, maybe even clapping stars...................
  4:10pm Cecile:

no f'ing Human League. Or at least a better era of Human League.
Avatar 4:10pm DJKG:

phill niblock and elliott sharp ain't stars enough for ya?
  4:14pm still b/p:

So, '71-73, Kenny Rogers & The First Edition had a TV show with music acts, called Rollin' on the River, and later just Rollin', and that's where the Malo clip apparently is from. Rollin' name is supered at end of clip. I think that's Mary Arnold of the First Edition doing the intro.
Avatar 4:15pm DJKG:

wfmu has such great listener-researchers!
  4:16pm Cecile:

Clay's friend!
  4:16pm BSI:

949,719 views on youtube. We can get it to 950,000 by the end of the show!
Avatar 4:18pm DJKG:

GO! GO! GO! unleash the minotaurs!!
  4:19pm BSI:

Do it for the redhead! It's the only way to set her free! ... to see a chiropractor about that neck thing!
  4:20pm 4:20:

  4:21pm steve:

  4:21pm Minnesota Jeff:

  4:21pm BSI:

  4:23pm BSI:

No disrespect to Niblock (loving this piece) but playing the Suavecito vid with this in the background is really working.
  4:23pm Perv:

I smelt the single.
  4:24pm BSI:

holy god, it's totally working.
  4:28pm Gsus:

Yeah this really does work...
Avatar 4:29pm DJKG:

it makes it seem like the video is slowed.
  4:29pm Middle Chick:

@BSI: It truly does!
Avatar 4:30pm DJKG:

altho the number of plays doesn't seem to be going up.
  4:30pm Middle Chick:

A Cage of Girls Like You.
  4:31pm BSI:

@KG: I noticed that. Clearly youtube is some kind of Illuminati plot.
Avatar 4:31pm DJKG:

it'd be nice to stretch this video to 30 minutes and pair it with the music.
Avatar 4:31pm DJKG:

yes, bsi. shenanigans!
  4:32pm Middle Chick:

Mmm...a drummer like him!
  4:39pm Carmichael:

OK, back from aloo gobi, chana masala, and assorted tandoori things. Worth the short jaunt. What is this spurious noise I hear??
  4:47pm Marmalade kitty:

molly ringwald! sore neck next day
  4:49pm das:

Your tandoori is having it's revenge
  4:49pm Mike East:

My favorite, Carm. Those Indians really know how to cook a chickpea.
  4:52pm BSI:

add to that a healthy dollop of strong garlic/chili pickle. And an onion kulcha. And I'll be right over. ... oh, and the BEER, yes yes.
  4:56pm steve:

you guys are killing me. how i miss working near the Dosa man in Washington Square Park...
  5:00pm Middle Chick:

Speaking of drummers, Biden reports Obama has "a big stick."
  5:04pm Caryn:

There's not a single Indian restaurant here. But the Armenian place makes excellent food.
  5:05pm Cecile:

Best tabouli recipe I ever got was from an Armenian-American.
  5:13pm das:

If it's any consolation Biden has a nice ass
  5:13pm Cecile:

yeah, like NMDS.
  5:14pm Carmichael:

There are plenty of Indian restaurants around here, but only 2 worth even thinking about. The one I went to today is actually Nepalese, although I can't figure out what makes it different than Indian.
  5:14pm Cecile:

Carbon was a great group, too.
  5:16pm Skeptic:

@Middle Chick: So that's what he's been screwing us with!
  5:21pm Cecile:

awesome interview/choice.
  5:21pm Middle Chick:

Superior choice!!
  5:22pm BSI:

agreed, re: Carbon.
  5:25pm Caryn:

Nice choice! The music lover in me approves. On the other hand, the fan girl in me now wants to watch BSG.
  5:26pm dc pat:

Reporting back: the beer is good, going with Spaten 2 shovels
  5:26pm dc pat:

Yes Carbon--saw them twice
  5:29pm BSI:

a'ite! Time to abandon ship and hug beer in a slightly creepy fashion. Brilliant show, captain..
  5:29pm Cecile:

I would have loved to see Sharp with Carbon. Or Mofungo. Or even at all! Some year, maybe.
  5:31pm dc pat:

Sharp did this Tibetan throat singing thing that was freakin scary
  5:34pm Idiot:

Yeah, Skeptic! It's BHO that's screwed us! We idiots know!!!
  5:36pm dc pat:

Hat on the bed... I never do that...
  5:43pm dc pat:

Well, see ya
  5:45pm Cecile:

bye pat!
  5:48pm Skeptic:

See how witty koolaid drinkers are? :-)
  5:59pm steve:

epic show!
  6:44pm Marmalade kitty:

The show ended 45 minutes ago and the girls still applaud!
