Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

That's it for another episode of The Dusty Show. I hope you enjoyed it. I appreciate the support you have shown and the encouragement to continue with Occupy coverage. Not every week is as visceral as some that preceded it, yet it would seem worth documenting and I am priviliged to do it when I can.

As I'm typing this it is 2:41am on Wednesday, April 4th, 2012. These playlists take a long time to complete. I try to keep up each week, but it is difficult sometimes. Tomorrow begins the production of another episode, and so it goes, week-after-week.

Just so you know, I'll be filling in for Fabio on April 12th from 3-6pm EDT, so they'll be 4-hours of Dusty that day. Too much? Maybe! Looking forward to playing some music and taking some calls. Until next time, keep Occupying and take care.

Always remember ...

Hi Clay!
  6:06pm Matt from Springfield:

Hi Clay!
Great insider take on the politics of police unions from a retired cop.
  6:06pm Matt from Springfield:

(Would you believe my math answer to the last one, mentioning the police, was '911'!!)

Hi Caryn!
  6:07pm kata:

whats up Clay, MfS and Caryn !
  6:09pm Matt from Springfield:

Viva libertad!
'Sup, kata!
  6:10pm glenn:

hello, claytonites.
  6:11pm Caryn:

Hi all!
That "arrested for sleeping at McD" story is making me nervous, since that's probably what I'm gonna be doing this weekend. Going out of town to listen to a concert and need to stay awake through the night at some fast food place until morning, when I can catch my train.
  6:12pm Matt from Springfield:

@Caryn: If it's open all night, and you buy something, they should oblige.

Central Park in the 60s:

Here's a kick in the ass, boys / Here's a kick in the ass"
  6:13pm Caryn:

@Matt: yeah, I'm just worried I'll fall asleep. Otherwise it'll be fine.
  6:15pm glenn:

you could always meet a cute boy or girl, caryn.
  6:15pm paula pc:

thanks for finding this guy, Clay! (the conservative OWS guy you're talking with)
  6:16pm Matt from Springfield:

Are you alienating us, Clay?
Resounding "NO!!" :)
  6:17pm kata:

oh, how sweet, a shout out! sweet Clay..
  6:17pm glenn:

ha! rush can chew my hairy canadian ass.
  6:17pm Dan in San Carlos:

Hey Clay & all! Checking in from sunny San Carlos, CA
  6:17pm Marmalade Kitty:

  6:17pm Brian:

Hey - I'm just listening HARDER
  6:18pm seang:

  6:18pm David from Charlotte:

Stay cool America.
  6:18pm David from Charlotte:

Stay cool America.
  6:18pm Caryn:

@glenn: possible, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm still kinda hoping that FvH will decide to come to the concert too. That way there'll be someone to hang with.

And yay, shout out!
  6:18pm sfrances:

Damn fine, funky flea market find!
  6:18pm loki:

clay - its obvious you really dont care about anyone - its just an act - so why should i care about you
  6:19pm Ralphine:

I would jump ship, but I keep waiting to hear what Kolonel Karl has to say about the occupiers.
  6:19pm kata:

that Slim Harpo was some hot shit
  6:19pm Matt from Springfield:

That's nice to get a shout out--and remember Clay, we support you!

Hi frances, Kitty, everyone!
  6:19pm listener mark:

I'm here with you, Clay; listener mark from Bloomingburg, New York.
  6:20pm glenn:

hey, grand funk.
  6:20pm David from Charlotte:

I want to hear the Funky Flea Market show!
  6:22pm Caryn:

Today's music clips clearly have a more funk & soul thing going on.
  6:22pm Matt from Springfield:

Actually contrary to popular beliefs, Union Square has nothing to do with the unions nor The Union during the Civil War--it was formed at the "union" of Broadway and the Bowery:
  6:22pm Terry in New Baltimore:

This is some of the best reporting I have heard on the occupy movement - with music too! Keep it up. I wish everyone could hear the voice of "the common man (or woman)" as you are bringing it.
  6:23pm Matt from Springfield:

Now, it just so happens that in the late 19th and early 20th century, the labor union rallies DID in fact assemble in Union Square frequently, but that probably had more to do with location than symbolism.
  6:24pm Matt from Springfield:

And Clay interviews!! Before Occupy most of his interviews in Manhattan seem to have been in and around Union Square.
  6:25pm Terry in New Baltimore:

Matt - is it true that Zuccoti park was originally an Italian menagerie where the animals had to sleep on cots?
  6:25pm Matt from Springfield:

Hi Terry!
Clay was on the ground reporting OWS from its earliest days: check out the Archives on the Dusty Show with Clay Pigeon playlists link. And he has a bunch of other awesome shows as well.
  6:26pm Fredericks:

Your Occupy coverage inspired me to visit Occupy Madison. Much quieter than New York. The police are a lot mellower there too.
  6:26pm Matt from Springfield:

@Terry: In response to your question, that's another common misconception. Actually it was where "zucchini" was cooked "hot" and sold to passerby :)
  6:27pm kata:

aw, Clay bedroom tapes, sweet.
  6:27pm Terry in New Baltimore:

I've actually been a fan for years (and a WFMU donor!) - just newly awestruck by the quality of this show
Avatar 6:28pm Clay:

Hey. I've had Station Manager Ken and Fabio in here, shootin' the s--t. Good to see you!
  6:30pm Matt from Springfield:

"Work it all out for yourselves" repeatedly, with that 70s funk background!
  6:31pm Matt from Springfield:

Perfect half-hour tape flip, it's been a while. Usually it's been at 45 mins the past few shows.
  6:32pm Caryn:

@Matt: oh if only that was the origin of the name... The actual "named after owners' company director" story is just blah.
  6:32pm listener mark:

We love you Fabio
  6:32pm glenn:

awwwwwww fabio :(
  6:32pm Matt from Springfield:

YES! Caught on digital Archive--expression of love from Fabio!
  6:33pm moose:

has joy formidible been on yet? i have a friend who likes them... i just got here (well, out of the shower)
  6:33pm Caryn:

@Matt: yes! Even if Fabio tried to say it really quietly.
  6:34pm Predictable Response:

Rick Santorum makes me wanna throw up.
  6:35pm Matt from Springfield:

@Caryn: But sweetly! :)
Avatar 6:35pm Clay:

Ken loves you, too. I asked him.
  6:37pm Caryn:

Sheesh, Santorum certainly makes me want to vomit way more than his totally warped JFK quotes do. You'd think he'd try not to badmouth the only Catholic president the US has ever had, but no.
  6:39pm Matt from Springfield:

Did you ask that guy what he believes was done "in the past" by OWS? To ferret out how much of what he heard was rumor and hearsay?
  6:39pm Matt from Springfield:

The Brendan Burke Minute, on The Clay Pigeon Hour!
  6:40pm jk:

everybody callin the other side animals...
Avatar 6:41pm Clay:

Matt, I handled that interview rather poorly. I don't always have my 'edge', unfortunately. They bested me.
  6:41pm Art:

Plutocracy is the problem; democracy is the solution.
  6:43pm chico:

  6:43pm glenn:

Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want and deserve to get it good and hard.
H. L. Mencken
  6:43pm Matt from Springfield:

@Clay: You still showed a human edge, even to those who scoff at the Occupiers! I only wish you had gone further, but it's hard to think on my feet--I'm envious of your interviewing skill in general.
Avatar 6:44pm Clay:

Saw that, Chico. Cool, eh?
  6:44pm moose:

i didn't like that subway thing
  6:45pm chico:

mos def, we need more loe like that goin on!
  6:45pm Mark G brooklyn:

Clay, your show has been adding an extra new dimension to WFMU over these past months. (Plus the years before, also great.) You have been doing really, really valuable work. I've listened to and supported 'FMU since about 1986. My modest $50 pledge this year was during Dusty. To me, what you've been doing, in focusing on Occupy, is both just so true to the spirit of the station, PLUS it's a very valuable addition to other journalism about OWS (D/N; Colin Moynihan) --SO DON'T STOP
  6:46pm glenn:

i read somewhere that joni mitchell was the only white person charles mingus talked to in the last 10 years of his life. i have no way of knowing if it's true or not.
  6:46pm Vicki:

goood eveninggg :)
  6:47pm Matt from Springfield:

The Joy Formidable--never heard of them, glad to have an introduction to them.
  6:48pm chad from oregon:

Hello all
  6:48pm Caryn:

@Matt: seen them play live on tv. Liked them quite a lot.
Avatar 6:49pm Clay:

@Caryn: Some Stateside attention can only be good for awareness of them.
  6:51pm no he doesn't:

no he doesn't.
  6:52pm listener mark:

Thanks Clay ! I will remember !
  6:53pm Matt from Springfield:

You heard her: "Be F*%&! curious!" Always look for new things!
But since you all are on WFMU, I know I don't need to tell you that! :)
  6:53pm Matt from Springfield:

Drummer: Always use the Green Cross Code!!!

  6:56pm Matt from Springfield:

A little silliness to wrap up the comments with!

This is a great band! It has the modern "indie" sound but the production is SO incredibly outstanding! And the lyrics and vocal are intriguing. Will def check this band out!
  6:57pm Matt from Springfield:

BIG COUNTRY!!! "Bagpipe guitar" forever!!!!
  6:57pm seang:

this song rules
  6:57pm Vicki:

ha ha
  6:58pm Matt from Springfield:

For a similar sound, check out Big Country's "Fields of Fire" -- Joe McG recently introduced me to that one!

Have a great night everyone!
  6:59pm Vicki:

night, see you soon I hope

Always remember dance party, y'all!
  4:32am JR in Kzoo:

Thanks for continuing to do this Clay, you are terkel incarnate
  8:26pm Rob:

Did you switch from tape to digital recorder during this episode? I like the tape sound, but I imagine digital is easier to edit. Thanks for covering OWS, the revolution will be tape recorded!
