  5:10pm Matt from Springfield:

First one to check in! Woohoo!

Whew, tough day today. I must have done a week's worth of thinking--what's on tap here tonight?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm Doug Schulkind:

Going batshit over Batman tonight. An hour of crooning about the caped crusader. Welcome Matt!
  5:14pm Matt from Springfield:

Aha! That's something out of the ordinary, should be fun! Afterwards, I should have a whiskey or something...to the public transport DD-Mobile!
  5:30pm Matt from Springfield:

IS there a version of the Batman theme "sung" by Shatner?? That would completely make my day!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm Doug Schulkind:

Wish I could beam it up for you.
  5:35pm Matt from Springfield:

Someday, maybe there will be Shatner tribute shows in Vegas. Qualified impersonators speak through all his classics, and do songs that he never did.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm Doug Schulkind:

Have your heard Mr. Nimoy's musical output. It is serious laugh/cry territory.
  5:41pm Matt from Springfield:

In fact...if I hear certain songs while my Dad's around (particularly "If I Were A Carpenter", "If I Had A Hammer", "Abraham Martin and John") I say that "it's a good song, but I like the original by Leonard Nimoy better" !! Always gets us laughing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Doug Schulkind:

Because, of course, Leonard Nimoy is your father. (Apologies for the laugh/cry comment earlier.)
  5:44pm Matt from Springfield:

My Dad was well aware of Kirk's output, I actually clued him in to Spock's recordings.
  5:46pm Matt from Springfield:

Hmmm, there's normally more early birds on the playlist. Glenn was/is here today on Brian's show; others should be coming in soon.
  5:49pm jk:

love the show idea Doug, didn't I hear a couple of batman songs on wfmu today?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm Doug Schulkind:

@jk
Did you really?! I am, as is often the case, complete oblivious.
  5:51pm Matt from Springfield:

jk! How's it going today?
  5:51pm jk:

it's great up here, hows it in springfield?
posted this on fb last night: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CE5_9MJT93s&feature=related
  5:52pm mitten john:

Unmask the Batman
!
  5:53pm Matt from Springfield:

@jk: Suddenly cold outside! Dramatic swings of weather, but at least summer isn't rushing headfirst into us like I feared.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Doug Schulkind:

@Mitten John
I had two options of "Unmask" to choose from! I'm going with the Lacy Gibson vocal.
  5:57pm jk:

yeah, weird coincidence! I heard Brian played 3 batman songs: Terrifying Sickos - Batman, Sun City Girls - Batman and Celio Balona - Terrifying Sickos and Joe Belock played Joker's Wild by Bob Irwin And The Pluto Walkers, which isn't a batman song unto itself but was covered as a vocal track by the French-Canadian band named 'Batman' and renamed Farceur Mauvais.
and that has been your pointless wfmu train spotting report for the evening
  5:58pm ndbob:

evening Doug and everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm Doug Schulkind:

Well, I've got Celio Balona at the ready. Considered but rejected Terrifying Sickos. Even I have standards...
  5:59pm Matt from Springfield:

Spot on, jk!
I must have been out for those, at least if I haven't heard it, it's new to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm Doug Schulkind:

Got to the Sun City Girls track too late or might've included it. I love them Girls.
  6:01pm Matt from Springfield:

Hi NDbob!
  6:01pm glenn:

i are here. i've been checkin' out porter wagoner vids on utbe. did he ever do a version of batman?
  6:02pm Matt from Springfield:

And hello again, glenn!
If Porter didn't, we'll sadly never get the chance now...
  6:04pm Matt from Springfield:

"Hello Again Glenn" rhymes!
Also sounds like it could be the title of a crappy Top 40 pop song from the mid 70s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm Doug Schulkind:

Hiya ndbob! Greetings Glenn!
  6:06pm ndbob:

Hi Matt!
  6:06pm glenn:

good day, all of y'all.
  6:07pm Matt from Springfield:

Love the spoken parts! The song's right up Link's alley, not surprised he had a go at it.
  6:10pm ndbob:

Hi Glenn!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Doug Schulkind:

There will be no Wesley Willis aired on tonight's program. I repeat, no Wesley Willis.
  6:13pm jk:

  6:13pm glenn:

  6:13pm holland oats:

  6:14pm Matt from Springfield:

Yes, reggae Batman!
The Israelites don't sound like an older group, did they name themselves after Desmond's song?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm Doug Schulkind:

Maury would steal the whole damn show.

Goood evening, Mr. Oats.
  6:16pm Matt from Springfield:

Mash up: "Batman's In Dirty Water"
  6:22pm holland oats:

  6:24pm glenn:

  6:25pm Matt from Springfield:

Mature 12 year olds, 150 year old King of Soul recordings, HOLY TOLEDO Batman! Space-time's fabric is ripping a hole!
  6:26pm northguineahills:

I must have a Spanish batman somewhere from all of my trips to Mexico. I have Spanish Popeye and Spiderman. I'll need to go look.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Doug Schulkind:

It was on Downtown Soulville that I first heard "Spanish Batman."
  6:29pm holland oats:

  6:30pm holland oats:

  6:33pm ndbob:

  6:34pm jk:

Indonesian Wanda Jackson
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm Doug Schulkind:

I think the Célio Balona track inspired this whole presentation. I had have to ask me to find out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm Doug Schulkind:

Popera Cosmic here: bit.ly...
  6:39pm Matt from Springfield:

These foreign covers need to stop lumping Superman along with Batman! After all, Superman really is a DICK!

http://superdickery.com/index.php?Itemid=45&id=28&layout=blog&option=com_content&view=category&limitstart=5
  6:39pm Hugo:

Any chance of hearing the Liverpool Scene version? Off their debut album - The Amazing Adventures of the Liverpool Scene.
  6:39pm Matt from Springfield:

Superdickery, the Superman Is A Dick website is quite hilarious, particularly if you're an enthusiast of the old DC Comics.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm Doug Schulkind:

Ooh, too late Hugo. I've got that here somewhere. Under a pile.
  6:42pm jk:

popera cosmic top notch choice cut there
  6:42pm holland oats:

matt/superdickery --- like!
  6:43pm Matt from Springfield:

@holland oats: It's excellent, glad you like!
  6:47pm Hugo:

Busy editing and reuploading Marion Brown - Solo Saxophone - over here. Completely forgot I had it until a wise guy at the DC++ hub spotted it in the file stash.
  6:50pm ndbob:

ah DC++:)
  6:51pm glenn:

well, this just upped the weird creepy factor.
  6:52pm northguineahills:

well, it is Zappa involved.
  7:02pm ndbob:

  7:05pm listener james from westwood:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:06pm Doug Schulkind:

Listeners James, if anyone is allowed a night off, it's you. Give my love to Pops.
  9:55am PSS:

Awesome show Doug. Such a great set. I love how varied it is despite being based around the theme. I am always amazed how many great versions there are of the Batman Theme or music it inspired.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am Doug Schulkind:

Thank's Pat!
