Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

On the sidewalk, strewn about, were the items he wished to sell. Amongst these items was a dirty, rumpled cardboard box filled with 45's. Most were from the early '60's. Many still had their original paper jackets well-intact. Each record was priced at one-dollar, and the kind gentleman allowed me six for five-dollars.

Thanks for listening to this episode of Dusty, my friend. Marathon was really great this year, Your continued support means a lot and is gratefully appreciated by your's truly.

I hope you enjoyed this installment. It was nice to go completely analog on this one, no laptop editing. I'll continue to experiment with format and content. To those who enjoy the Occupy coverage, I haven;t abandone the cause and I'll be updating soon.

Damn this Rush song is good.

I guess that's it for now. We'll be mailing out those premiums before long. I'm genuinely excited about CC4. I know you'll love it. OK. I'm going. Take care and ... always remember.

Avatar 6:06pm Clay:

Hi G, Matt, My!
  6:06pm Matt from Springfield:

Romney is "sociologically" liberal..like sociopathically liberal? Not only is Romney not liberal, shows what that Wall Streeter thinks of liberals and Romney.
  6:07pm Caryn:

Hello all! Hi Clay! You brought the house down at H&M! I squealed in glee at your song choice.
Avatar 6:07pm Clay:

Thanks Caryn! Though my guitar playing was rusty and skeered.
  6:08pm Matt from Springfield:

Flea Market "Forty-Five" Finds! Sounds new to me. Ever find any flea market 78s to play?
  6:08pm kata:

yeah, that comment had me going WTF also Matt...
  6:08pm dale:

damn clay, you find some swell 45s at the flea market. if you told me they were fitty cent 45s i'd be really jealous.
  6:09pm glenn:

i gotta think the big gloves don't help bring out your inner james burton neither.
Avatar 6:09pm Clay:

They were one-dollar, Dale. In an old, dirty cardboard box. The best kind.
  6:09pm glenn:

that was re clays geetarin'
  6:10pm dale:

matt - i picked up two crates of edison diamond discs for a dollar at an auction. my best haul ever. just need a turntable with 78 rpm now.
  6:10pm Cecile:

Hi and bye everyone, have a great show!
Avatar 6:10pm Clay:

I'm laughing, Glenn. I just missed my Telecaster.
  6:10pm my fave brace:

"those youngsters think everything gets handed to them" lol
Avatar 6:11pm Clay:

Bye Cecile. Wish you could stay.
  6:11pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I like the "No!" that gets interjected occasionally.
  6:11pm glenn:

those old ovations are great guitars.
  6:11pm Cecile:

me, too. But dinner waits, so it's not all lost.
  6:12pm dale:

clay, margaretville has (had?) a great flea market behind the price chopper in august. you prolly already know that tho.
  6:12pm Matt from Springfield:

I like the fusion of Clay clips: "I don't--" "NO!!"

Similar to Irwin's Tullis & Clark remixes: "buying in--" "SURE!" "-ance.."
Avatar 6:12pm Clay:

I find that there are many conservatives who attend sporting events at Madison Square Garden. A good counterpoint to my usual left-heavy shows. By the way. I meant to attend an Occupy event on Wednesday, but I was unable to.
  6:13pm moose:

rousing performance at the finale mr pigeon!
Avatar 6:13pm Clay:

Yes, Dale. There's a feeble one in Arkville, too.

@Matt - Good ear, young man!
  6:13pm Mark T in VT:

Come up to VT and spend some time other than the ski area in Stowe. I will show you a real picture of America through a Vermont view that will blow your mind.
Avatar 6:14pm Clay:

Thanks Moose!

@ Mark ... I bought my Ovation in Putney, VT. It has a massive crack. Ha! That sounded filthy.
  6:15pm moose:

thank YOU for your sincerity !
  6:15pm Matt from Springfield:

@dale: Are people wasted away again, in Margaretville?
  6:16pm dale:

i ;lke the arkville one. go up 28 on a holiday weekend it's one big yardsale
Avatar 6:16pm Clay:

They are Matt. But worse in Prattsville and Blenheim, inundated by flooding and still clawing back.
  6:17pm Matt from Springfield:

Scooter McThumbknuckle, still doesn't top Binkie McFartnuggets
(check out his YT btw, I anyway think his video "remixes" are very funny!)
  6:17pm dale:

not many watering holes there matt. best to pick up a six at the gas station and go home.
  6:17pm G:

@Matt: Since the 70s at least, it's been a longstanding poli-sci distinction to separate socially conservative/liberal from economically conservative/liberal. Moderate Republicans are often fiscally conservative and socially liberal (in contrast to evangelicals who are both economically and socially conservative). The interviewee meant Romney is fiscally conservative and "socially" liberal (not "sociologically"). He was just bungling the poli-sci terminology he's seen used in articles and columns in places like nationalreview.com.
  6:17pm glenn:

into the corner, matt. such punnery must be punished.
  6:17pm kata:

ha ! Ren-fair dude ! I bet he ain't no conservative !
  6:18pm Matt from Springfield:

@Clay: Still remember the harrowing footage of floods up there during Irene.
@dale: Maybe if they open a cantina...
Avatar 6:18pm Clay:

Ren-Fair dude at Penn Station
  6:18pm glenn:

ahem... fiscal policy IS social policy.
  6:18pm my fave brace:

I could see a ren fair dude being pretty Ron Paul libertarian...
  6:19pm Matt from Springfield:

@glenn: Hey, not a pun! An inter-lingual play on words!! With an admitted pop culture core!
  6:19pm Matt from Springfield:

Jaco mention again!
  6:20pm Listener Dave from Seattle:

I read that Jaco book too.
Avatar 6:20pm Clay:

I'm immersed right now (again) Matt.
  6:20pm glenn:

freed on a technicality.
  6:20pm Mark T in VT:

VT is always shown as liberal in the media. What does not get reported is that liberal majority is about just over 60 percent. The rest are conservative. But Vermont conservative. I bet Clay would have quite the time if he did some shows in VT.
Avatar 6:20pm Clay:

It's good, Dave, but sad.
  6:21pm frances:

Hello Clay, Matt from Springfield, and all of you @ Claynation--always remember
  6:21pm Snortley:

To judge from the internet, there are indeed great bustards on the plains of Spain, where, of course, the rain falls mainly.
  6:21pm glenn:

tal winkenfeld. great bass player, and gorgeous to boot.
Avatar 6:22pm Clay:

Claynation ... wow! Hi Frances!

Hi Snortz!
  6:24pm josh in brooklyn:

  6:24pm glenn:

Avatar 6:24pm Clay:

TY Josh. Good luck with your stuff!
  6:24pm my fave brace:

  6:25pm Matt from Springfield:

Clay-animated! He always has an animated personality...
Hi Frances!
Avatar 6:26pm Clay:

Glenn, Fabio won't sing unless you drop a dumbell on his toe. Julie sings like a bird.
  6:27pm kurt v:

clay, i believe you are a master of this form. thank you for sharing on the radio.
  6:27pm G:

Fabio is shy.
  6:27pm glenn:

that's no excuse.
Avatar 6:28pm Clay:

My pleasure, Kurt! Thanks.
Avatar 6:28pm Clay:

Exactly, G. And a wonderful chap.
  6:28pm kurt v:

you're very welcome.
  6:29pm G:

Didn't call it an excuse. Just stated my inference about the facts :-)
  6:29pm glenn:

no, it was the dumbbell part.
  6:31pm G:

Got it. Not always easy to tell what's a reply to what when several people are posting on a topic!
  6:32pm several people:

@G: What do you think of the topic?
  6:33pm Matt from Springfield:

@several people: So true.
  6:35pm G:

what topic, there are so many and they keep changing hahaha
  6:35pm glenn:

  6:37pm kata:

I love how fired up you got these guys Clay.. very interesting..
Avatar 6:37pm Clay:

Sorry I couldn't lavish the production on the second-half of the show. I ran short of time post-marathon. Sounds kind of muddy. Need a little analog upgrade. New tapes. New micro-cassette. It'll happen. Stay tuned. More Occupy, too.
Avatar 6:37pm Clay:

TY Kata!
  6:37pm glenn:

that guy would shit if he knew how much canadians pay in taxes.
  6:38pm glenn:

on the other hand, i don't have to take out a bank loan if i need an operation.
  6:39pm Matt from Springfield:

George W. Bush, president through difficult times, that he created...
  6:39pm kata:

we are so fucked if we invade Iran. I hope we can stay out, but I think we will go in. Fuck!!!
  6:41pm m:

the conservative military guys never mention osama bin laden anymore- if a republican president took him out we'd never hear the end of it
  6:41pm dale:

syria deserves a good reaming. i say man the torpedoes!
Avatar 6:42pm Clay:

You got that right, M!
  6:42pm dale:

but seriously, why is the cradle of civilization so effed up?
Avatar 6:44pm Clay:

Religion (poorly applied) seems to twist people up. Greed gets us every time. We need more love.
  6:44pm Matt from Springfield:

Because the cradle of civilization has been acting like children for the past couple centuries.
  6:44pm G:

Israel has been slowing Iran down. Computer stuff, assassination. Obama just recently told them don't do anything *military* till after the election.

If Iran gets even one viable nuclear weapon, both militarily and politically things are not going to go a way that anyone here will be happy with. As soon as they use it (which they will as soon as they can), various countries are going to react. We in the US can't change that, even if we don't do anything military at all.
  6:46pm kata:

Leon Penetta has admitted that there is no evidence Iran is building a nuclear weapon.
  6:47pm Matt from Springfield:

@G: And that's the problem--do nothing and we still end up affected. I'm so hoping, perhaps wishfully, the "Green Revolution"/"Iran Spring" takes out the leadership before any attack--the people pretty much don't go for the theocracy and Ahmadinejad, but they'll unite against an outside aggressor, leading to deep, lasting violence.
  6:48pm dale:

nice clothes make the man!
  6:48pm G:

It's geography, dale. Because of the Indian Ocean and the Medit. Sea, that area is a crossroads between Asia, Europe, and Africa, and people and ideas are always moving in and through there, historically, and churning around.

Think about all the changes in countries and empires there in ancient times (Egypt, Sumer, Bablyon, Israel, Persia, etc etc). It never stayed the same for long.
  6:48pm jk:

congratulations on a successful fundraiser, Clay!
  6:49pm dale:

the area is too small - use a nuke against a neighbor and mess up your own environment.
Avatar 6:49pm Clay:

Jeez, Dale, and me in my dad jeans and Led Zep t-shirt ....

@JK Thanks!!!! It was so fun.

  6:49pm my fave brace:

  6:50pm Matt from Springfield:

This Sunday, full page ad in the WaPo: Larry Flynt is offering "up to 1 million dollars" for verified information on congressmen, senators or senior govt officials on their infidelity, sex abuse or corruption. SOMEONE in DC is going to tell, and these people will get paranoid about their staffs and underlings. The gauntlet is thrown! He may be kinda gross, but kudos to Larry on this!
  6:51pm G:

@Matt: We had a shot at helping an Iran uprising a couple of years ago, and we didn't encourage it, because we didn't want to look interventionist and anti-Islamic. The Tehran authorities arrested everyione and crushed it. Was that a bad call on our part?
  6:51pm Fredericks:

Iran doesn't need a nuke to nuke Israel. Only a missile to hit one of Israel's reactors.
They could but haven't yet.
Avatar 6:52pm Clay:

Well. look what the cat drug in. Hey Fredericks!
  6:52pm frances:

I love it when you play mellow songs like this "Cecil"
  6:52pm Matt from Springfield:

@Fredericks: Yes, that's another problem even right now: Iran could destroy Israel right now with just their conventional weapons.
Avatar 6:54pm Clay:

Keep jabbering y'all. I just want to say thanks again for Marathon. I hope you have great weekends. Until next time ... take care and ... always remember!

Clay - 99
  6:54pm G:

Iran's version of Shia theology says the hidden Imam will return to put things right Islamically when the situation has gotten extreme enough. They think nuking Israel will do it. Israel's already slowed them down by a few years with computer hacking and assassination of nuclear scientists. But slowing down is not the same as stopping permanently.
  6:54pm Fredericks:

Hey there! Clay, you were very correct on Religion being misapplied.
  6:54pm dale:

clay, a decade go i was keeping the dry cleaner in fine wine and triskets cleaning my suits. now i wear painters bibs but i'm happier than i was then. and damn, i'll be 53 this year! poop!
Avatar 6:54pm Clay:

I love that song, Frances. A future classic candidate. And ohhh you guys are going to love CC4. Gals. too!
Avatar 6:55pm Clay:

Miss you Fredericks, old friend. Keep in touch!
  6:55pm frances:

Happy International Womens Day & always remember back atcha!
  6:56pm glenn:

keep it simple.
Avatar 6:56pm Clay:

I know I play Limelight too much. Deal!
  6:56pm dale:

@matt - what was up with the larry flynt flashlight spot on a womans private parts?
  6:56pm Fredericks:

I'll be it touch soon. Night, Bhurd and supporters.
  6:57pm Matt from Springfield:

That's the problem with the pervasive "American Dream", and "Manifest Destiny" before that: other former colonies like Canada, Australia and NZ seem to "keep it simple" much better than Americans try to.
Avatar 6:57pm Clay:

Neil Peart!!!!!
Avatar 6:57pm Clay:

Geddy Lee!!!
Avatar 6:57pm Clay:

Alex Lifeson!!!
  6:57pm Matt from Springfield:

@dale: Flashlight spot???
  6:58pm Recurring Gag:

@glenn: So glad you support Rush! ;)
  6:58pm glenn:

john rutsey!
  6:58pm G:

Clay, ever seen that youtube where someone edited together about ten minutes of Geddy screams back to back? A hoot.
  6:59pm dale:

look at hustler from th 80s - it's like a tiny mirror was reflecting all the light down there
  6:59pm glenn:

he was the original rush drummer, in case you're wondering.
  3:34pm Matthew Koons:

Another great hour Clay!!! From beginning to end. Also loved the interview from the guy who was working at the Ren Faire in PA. That is in Lebanon County about 30 minutes from me, give or take. Awesome place. Quick question, can you please tell me if I can still maybe get the Clay Classics CD or even the ones you had in prior years? Thanks in advance.

Always remembering,
