Morning/night all!
  3:02am KP:

  3:04am mike noble in dc:

yawn. i don't know what to do with this $15 now
  3:04am fred:

Good morning Julie, Pie, Caryn and KP.
Great to see the station make its goal after those past few years of coming up short. Now if only that $1m pledger would show up...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:05am Julie:

@Mike if there is money in your pocket, feel free to fork it over ;)
  3:05am KP:

Hello, yes, I'd like to make pledge to Dark Night of the Soul.
  3:05am Richard Branson:

I am lost in space!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:05am Julie:

@Fred it is so awesome! YAY YAY YAY
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:05am Julie:

Good morning everyone! Back to my normal abnormal here! Except the disco light is gone :(
  3:06am KP:

I do see the total is close to a fairly round number.
  3:08am KP:

last time i used a calculator on this show i got into a lot trouble.
  3:11am Dark Knight Dan:

Congrats Julie and WFMU. You got done and did it!
  3:11am Caryn:

I feel bad for all the DJs and fixtures that remain unadopted. I wonder if they would still accept an adoption request, even though the deadline has passed?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:12am Julie:

@Caryn I would think so, email John Dalton through the gallery
  3:14am Caryn:

Okey-dokey, Julie! Something to do while my adoption of this comments board is still pending :)
  3:16am KP:

Wow Caryn, if you grab this board i'll have to settle for adopting Joe Belock.
  3:16am Caryn:

For some reason, I've always loved singing Bali Hai. There's something very enjoyable about the melody.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:17am Julie:

I think this is a neat cover.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:17am Julie:

It reminds me of Follow me from Camelot, same feel
  3:17am fred von helsing:

I pledged to DNotS :)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:18am Julie:

@FVH thank you! And thanks to everyone who supported WFMU
  3:19am KP:

isnt this song from south pacific?
  3:21am KP:

You are quite welcome, Julie.
  3:21am Caryn:

I've seen a couple of musical numbers from Camelot, but never the whole thing :(
Camelot and Carousel, the holes in my musical theatre experience (haven't been shown on tv or done in a theatre here during my lifetime, which may explain why I haven't experienced them), and allitterative ones at that.
  3:22am Caryn:

@KP: yes indeedy, South Pacific
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:22am Julie:

@Caryn You must see the film Camelot, it is lacking because Redgrave can't sing, but boy is it beautiful
  3:22am fred von helsing:

After this song, wouldn't Olivia be appropriate ?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:23am Julie:

@FVH i don't have any of her tonight! I need to get her new soundtrack which they don't sell here. She does dance songs, like Hey mickey
  3:24am Caryn:

@Julie: yes, the bits of it I've seen have looked gorgeous, which is why I've wanted to see it. Once my finances are out of their current, even-bigger-than-usual, marathon-induced hole, I'll go out and buy it.
  3:25am fred von helsing:

tuned in late and missed Strange Boutique aw CRAP. saw them once at Nightclub 930, an EXCELLENT gig, Monica <3
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:26am Julie:

I am desperately waiting for Monica to come around!
  3:27am KP:

Production of South Pacific was incredible. Everything they do there is great, but that was on another level.
  3:28am KP:

oops i meant to say at Lincoln center.
  3:29am KP:

oh, julie.
  3:29am Marmalade Kitty:

Good morning julie & all!! Great performance on sunday, julie!
  3:29am Matt from Springfield:

Good morning Julie!
WE DID IT! Thanks everyone for helping us meet our goal! Yeaaaah!!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:30am Julie:

@MK Thank you! (Blush) @Matt good morning
  3:30am Matt from Springfield:

This is a lovely Boyce & Hart song--someone requested this at the Yo La Tengo performance Friday. I didn't know the Monkees also did this. Still a lovely arrangement here. Mickie Most production?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:31am Julie:

@Matt I don't know..very pretty though
  3:31am Matt from Springfield:

Kitty's right--a fine performance, the Ants are Invading!
  3:32am Caryn:

Now that the marathon is over, the DJs can finally focus on their various RIP tributes.
@Julie: yes, good performance! And good choice of a militaristic jacket for the song!
  3:32am KP:

I'm glad you mentioned it, MK. Quite shocking in its intensity, Julie's performance killed them. That is all.
  3:32am Marmalade Kitty:

wish I could've been there to cheer you on! :)
  3:32am fred von helsing:

Monica's Faceborg feed is not so music-oriented
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:33am Julie:

@Caryn It was already in my closet..it was just..such a nice fit
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:33am Julie:

@FVH I think she has a book out, and she makes etsy things. But I think she did just put out a new album.
  3:33am Caryn:

@Julie: see, it was meant to be :)
  3:35am maja:

Good Morning Julie, all!
  3:36am fred von helsing:

You're right, the album is NAIADES. I have Strange Boutique on vinyl, it is a treasured posession.
I passed out before the jamboree got really cranked up. Didn't get to work til 3 in the afternoon. Does anyone have a pointer to a vid of the festivities? They sound painfully silly.
  3:37am Bucky:

Loving your show sweetie :)
Is Donette still making music? I ran into her here and there in LA shortly after she released the album with Steve Kilby- '89-'90-? She always manages to create magic waves. Thanks.
  3:37am Caryn:

www.ustream.tv/channel/marathon-2012 should still have the videos up, FVH
  3:37am Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: I was wondering what the "militaristic jacket" was with the buttons and all--I liked the more punk side you showed. So start thinking of next year's song! ;)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:38am Julie:

@FVH she is on my west coast wish list. Claire Voyant as well.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:38am Julie:

@Matt oh already thinking, but I changed my mind like 10 times this year. It's just a cute jacket I think I got it either in LA or London a couple years ago. I think I was wearing it when I first met Inkubus Sukkubus.
  3:39am Marmalade Kitty:

Scotts & band are awesome
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:39am Julie:

I told Daniel Blumin I was gonna do something from Garlands..guess I should start deciphering lyrics
  3:39am Matt from Springfield:

Good morning maja!
Caryn, MK, FVH, KP, Bucky, Dan and mike as well!
  3:41am Matt from Springfield:

Garlands would ROCK! And..it's the only album where they've published (a partial list) of lyrics too.
  3:43am Caryn:

Morning, Matt & Maja & others who have just shown up!
  3:43am Matt from Springfield:

@Bucky: I was pleasantly surprised to find out about Donnette's collab with Steve Kilbey after Julie played "Ethereal Message". I don't think she's done anything recently, but I'm quietly hoping Dark Night draws more and more of these great performers back in the game!
  3:44am T-Zero:

Morning, all.
  3:46am Matt from Springfield:

Morning TZ!
@Julie: I checked producers: Chip Douglas produced the Monkees, Mickie Most did Herman's Hermits (and Donovan, the Animals and such). But apparently, Mickie also discovered Kim Wilde, who was singing backing vocals for her Dad, Marty!
  3:47am Matt from Springfield:

Oooh, dreampoppy!
Autumn's Grey Solace, "Deserted and Desolate"...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:47am Julie:

@Matt alas I don't think she is..Yes Hex was a lovely band. As far as I know this solo project was her last recording. I should start pestering her.
  3:48am Matt from Springfield:

Draft Donnette!
Let's start a FB page!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:49am Julie:

@Matt and Boo Trundle.
  3:51am KP:

This is Camel? it's great!
  3:52am KP:

That jacket was a cute as a button!
  4:02am fred von helsing:

I guess Ken revises the goals for shows as the marathon progresses? Like, upward? There were some tough goals and a lot of shows got less than half their goal, but all in all the ending was... a happy one
  4:05am Bucky:

Yeah- the first time i heard 'In the Net' i nearly lost my mind *_*
  4:05am KP:

FVH. I dont think he did that this time. in the fall mini marathon, yes. Julie tripled her modest goal and they they reset it each time. This time i dont think so.
  4:05am Caryn:

Man, "Comfortably Numb" has been covered by a crapload of people!
  4:06am fred von helsing:

a melody MUCH like "comfortably numb" !!
  4:06am fred von helsing:

oh d'oh it IS C.N.
My bad. Time to fetch coffee.
  4:07am Caryn:

@KP: he did do it with some shows. You would watch as the pledge widget percentages would jump, as Ken would set a new goal, in some cases several times during the show.
  4:09am fred von helsing:

I wonder too how much of the marathon goal covers marathon costs - swag etc. Maybe a fifth? My half-mouse swag probably costs 20$+ wholesale - not free
  4:09am Caryn:

@KP: but I think FVH also means that a lot of shows had way higher goals set for them during the second week than during the first, as Ken realised they needed more money coming in
  4:10am Marmalade Kitty:

Caryn, enough for a comfortably numb set!
  4:12am fred von helsing:

Let's not forget our new in-house band, Julie's Pledge Widget! Who's on bass? Who's got drums? Synth? Julie sings - mais bien sûr
  4:12am Matt from Springfield:

@FVH: $240,000? That's a high cost (and %) for swag--assembled by volunteer DJs, I'm sure the only costs are mailing it. Even for a $15 pledge and bumper sticker (or soap) that might be as much as one-third ($5), but obviously most swag-receivers will pledge more than that. $75, that should be less than 1/10. Higher pledges have a lower proportion still.
  4:12am KP:

Caryn, this time? I guess i havent seen anyone really crush a goal.iwas shocked the first week to find Julie's goal was for the first week only. That did not seem fair. i know another DJ and he was crushed he fell so short in that first week. He should have been celebrating.
  4:13am Matt from Springfield:

"Comfortably Numb" set? That's a little too much of it--I would be uncomfortable (and not numb) with that!
  4:14am edinblack:

Nossa Senhora d'Abadia --- algo do Brasil!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:15am Julie:

So much lovely Brazilian music!
  4:16am Matt from Springfield:

Oooh, is this on the Brazilian comp?
  4:16am fred von helsing:

Yeah I was guessing too high. Even with P&H it's gonna be under a sixth, maybe a tenth like you say, for the bulk of pledges, and falling off for the higher ones. So that leaves well over 1M to keep the coffeemakers powered and the DJ's properly caffeinated
  4:17am Caryn:

Lots of good covers this morning!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:17am Julie:

Darn false endings *grumble*
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:21am Julie:

@Matt I just have random Brazilian tracks as well as some comps..not sure where it comes from
  4:21am Matt from Springfield:

@FVH: Amen! More for electricity, Archive servers, streams, radio equipment upkeep, and oh yeah the holes in the walls you can stick your hands in! And the death-trap elevator! And..you get the picture!
  4:22am Matt from Springfield:

No Olivia, but Sophia Knapp reminds me of her vocal style.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:23am Julie:

@Matt yeah! She used to be with the band Lights
  4:23am fred von helsing:

"Death trap elevator"? Do tell.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:24am Julie:

The 'vator was acting up tonight..eek..stops on the floor then sits..and shakes..and sits
  4:25am Caryn:

Ahh, the "elevator to hell", as some DJ put it.
  4:27am KP:

wow. who is Pilori/ This is great.
  4:27am edinblack:

Hmmm....! I thought this (Pilori) was Legendary Pink Dots. Nope!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:28am Julie:

I think this song was on last year's premium
  4:29am edinblack:

Maybe that's why it sounded so familiar...!
  4:30am KP:

i have it then. must reexamine the stash.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:30am Julie:

I need to play more LPD!
  4:31am Matt from Springfield:

LPD is great. And I know you've at least played Pilori, perhaps it's on the premium as well...
  4:31am Matt from Springfield:

Yep, sure is! Dark Matter!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:32am Julie:

Most of Pilori's songs have a female vocalist
  4:35am Matt from Springfield:

Chinese Darkwave??
  4:37am KP:

so that voice was not the lead? he was very effective. Reminded of Nick Drake.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:38am Julie:

I don't think they are Chinese. but then we have no liner notes.
  4:38am ausmanx:

thought i'd better sign in and say HELLO EVERYONE with the surprise experience of Scattered Order! they live up the road from me in Sydney, and sometimes still emerge to do amazing gigs at local pubs! thanks Julie...
  4:39am fred von helsing:

"I have no liner notes" is music geekspeak for "downloaded" :-P
  4:39am Matt from Springfield:

Hey ausmanx!
Say hello to Scattered Order (literally if possible) for us!
  4:39am Matt from Springfield:

Ha ha, FVH!
  4:40am fred von helsing:

hey ausmanx are you the the interviewer ?
  4:41am Matt from Springfield:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:41am Julie:

@FVH nope promo from the record company
  4:42am edinblack:

And yes ... LPDs after all.....!
  4:43am ausmanx:

have i come in later, FVH, don't understand? they'll be pleased to hear from FMU, Matt!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:44am Julie:

I think that might be Dark Night Dan? The interviewer
  4:45am KP:

julie, may i post the link? i figured it was him.
  4:48am fred von helsing:

BTW just discovered St Vincent! The acoustic stuff does nothing special for me but the electric stuff, WOW! The 4AD session is really sumthin'. Anyone see her live, can report?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:51am Julie:

@FVH hmmm really, I will have to check that out.
  4:53am KP:

good night, julie, again congratulations to you and the station. It's been fun.
  4:54am fred von helsing:

I'm entranced by any gal that has a fuzzbox and knows how to use it => yes a reference to THAT band, they were fun !
  4:58am fred von helsing:

Julie do you hafta raid your LP stash down the block for every show? That'd be lot of hassle for a show. Respect!
  4:58am slugluv1313:

good morning, Julie! (have been listening all night/morning but just signing on to comments now) THANK YOU FOR PLAYING "I WANT TO BE FREE"!!!!! probably my fave Monkees song since, well, i was watching their TV show when i was a kid in the 1960s . . . and STILL so very very meaningful for me . . . RIP Davy, we all miss you!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:59am Julie:

@FVH nah I could never do that. Bunch of cd's and lp's and a nice external drive
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:59am Julie:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:00am Julie:

Oh raid yes, I thought you meant haul. Oh yes most of what I play I bring from home.
  5:03am Caryn:

Her voice reminds me of some other singer... Can't put my finger on it.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:03am Julie:

Here's some trivia, I carry my cd's in a powerpuff girls zipper case
  5:04am fred von helsing:

ausmanx I was asking if it was you that interviewed our DJ - it's posted on her faceborg page
  5:08am pierre:

Bonjour Julie, it's a late checking in but a true one !
Bravo for the marathon ! Say hi to Clay as well.

Later, i will tune in to hear your Adam & the Ants cover !
  5:08am fred von helsing:

Powerpuff Girls RULE. I've a modest collection of PpG branded merch, should I post pix some day? The most hideous is a PpG watch, it's a god-awful design carcrash. Also a box of PpG breakfast cereal - "a treasured possession."
  5:12am Matt from Springfield:

Just about to suggest all female Syd Barrett comp!
Agree about the Powerpuff Girls--never got into them until I started watching Adult Swim cartoons, and realized how they were part of that same creative, smart cartoon universe.

Bonjour pierre! Ant Invasion was a real treat!
  5:14am fred von helsing:

The PpG ep where they mangle the Beatles - it is a gem
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:14am Julie:

I have had several buttercup keychains only to break them, btw EG Daily will be on Night People soon!
  5:15am Matt from Springfield:

She's a great voice artist. (Like a certain radio host here....)
Thx for the upcoming FMU forecast!
  5:16am Matt from Springfield:

Kick Tikarrass!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:16am Julie:

I also have a couple of her records, but they were awfully poppy in that overproduced 80s vein
  5:17am fred von helsing:

voice artists? the gal that does Bubbles should get a prize for best-enunciated lunacy :-D
  5:19am ausmanx:

i'm much too SHY to interview a DJ, FVH. and i don't do faithbook either, so i can't consult! someone on Sounccloud about to release her first CD sounds like Bjork but is called Julie... http://soundcloud.com/juliewilkins#
  5:19am Marmalade Kitty:

love this! was never really a fan of solo Bjork
  5:21am fred von helsing:

@mk I hear that, but her latest stuff is interestinger
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:22am Julie:

Ooh twangy guitar
  5:23am Marmalade Kitty:

*by this I meant, Tappi Tikarrass. FVH, not heard her latest, maybe i should give a whirl! Punky set!!! :)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:23am Julie:

yeah the new one is good, but I love Debut which is the only solo one I have (not counting the one where she's 13)
  5:25am fred von helsing:

I am Liberty Belle and this is my Lasso of Regret!
  5:29am Marmalade Kitty:

Sting will be performing in Manchester this month, £65-75 per ticket!? I think I will NOT be seeing him!?! I would have loved to see him out of interest, but that is daylight robbery! Motörhead charged £25, same venue.. value for a fan!
  5:31am ausmanx:

Kitty, much better value is the Wobble and Levene reunion where they're playing PiL's Metal Box in Dub... I am so jealous that they're only doing it in Japan and the UK. That would be something to see... and Lydon tried to stop them!
  5:32am Marmalade Kitty:

Ooooh! I must see that!
  5:34am fred von helsing:

what was lydon's beef ?
  5:34am Matt from Springfield:

Hikikomori -- is that directed at us in any way? :P
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:36am Julie:

I love that she has played 4 major female Batman characters (Vicki Vale, Batgirl, Harley Quinn & Huntress)!

When this started, I was going "Hang on, is this... No, it can't be." And as it continued: "Yes it is. But it can't... Yep, that's the chorus. OMG!"

Catch up time for me.

Julie - it would have been a strange & weird transition if you had followed up the Monkees with Toyah's "I Want To Be Free" ha ha :)
  1:49pm Van in DC:

Interesting cover of Comfortably Numb. Nothing beats the original though. MAN do I love Gilmour on that...
  2:04pm Van in DC:

Wow. I thought I was hearing ONJ there for a minute...had to look and it's "Sophia Knapp".
  2:17pm Van in DC:

Huh. "Seconds Late For The Brighton Line". That sounds like something Chris Limb would write. :)
  2:22pm Van in DC:

Just noticed the comment about Sophia Knapp live on the show next week - that should be great!
