  3:21pm
Ike:

Fabio's premium CDs are always excellent. And worthy of love! That may be the only DJ premium I *always* get, every single year; I pledged pre-marathon to get it again this year. My other premium choices vary from year to year.
  3:22pm
Matt from Springfield:

What colour is swarthy?
  3:25pm
Frank:

Hahaha This is so funny! and his voice sounds like Todd Barry
  3:25pm
glenn:

on the pantone chart it's somewhere between tarzan and terry and the pirates.
  3:25pm
Matt from Springfield:

If Julie was here, that would segue into Abba's "Ring Ring"!

@Nathan: Swarthy indicates a very brown skin -- a "dark" skin (but not black). I've heard "tawny" used to describe a very brown tone as well.
  3:26pm
KP:

Oh, Fabio.
  3:26pm
Should Be Paying Closer Attention:

Dave the Spazz's show is starting *very* early this week!
  3:27pm
Mpls. Thom:

I love Fabios show, especially the last fifteen when Clay comes in. And I love Clays show, getting Fab with Clay for four hours is like the best radio ever.
  3:27pm
KP:

Fabio playing the Monkees. You have me weeping on the railroad.
  3:28pm
Mpls. Thom:

donated to Fab last week, will donate to Clay this week.
  3:28pm
KP:

Mary, I love you.
  3:28pm
Matt from Springfield:

I believe Irwin's played this "Bedazzled" remix as well.
  3:29pm
KP:

Sandra, I love you.
  3:29pm
Nathan:

Whoa.. I always thought swarthy meant something else... but I see you're right.
  3:31pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

People can donate their old cars to WFMU, right? Mention that over the air. More income for the station that way.
  3:32pm

  3:38pm
BSI:

WHAT IT (THE HELL) IS!
  3:41pm
Matt from Springfield:

Fabio hasn't been adopted yet! Mouse Pledge of $365 will do it!

"Adopting Fabio for the next 12 months is a sure-fire way to guarantee his respect, because he sure isn't gonna do it after he saw that Spandau Ballet CD on your shelf."

  3:42pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Clay: What you need to do is a "Five Boroughs Audio Tour" of NYC--interview people from all five boroughs.
  3:42pm
bill:

ODB!
  3:43pm
Brass Knuckles:

I would get a Fabio hip hop DJ Premium.
  3:45pm
BSI:

I'm spent, mates, but I'll be getting Fabio's premium via mouse pledge earlier this week. Looking forward to that...! Feed the Fabio!
  3:45pm
Matt from Springfield:

Incidentally, thank you BSI for adopting Scott Williams!
I'll thank any other adopters I see on this board!
  3:45pm
George of Troy:

I don't know what's funnier, Clay's surreal non sequiturs or Fabio's reaction to them.

  3:47pm
Ike:

Couldn't quite hear Belock's response to Clay -- bet it was funny though!

And as a former Marylander, I gotta say, there is only ONE spring in Silver Spring. Not Silver Springs!
  3:48pm
glenn:

clay and fabio together is sorta what skip spence and captain kangaroo would be like together.
  3:49pm
dan b.:

can somebody tell me how to spell the name of the group that isn't Filthy Moose?
  3:49pm
Matt from Springfield:

@glenn: Oh, I didn't adopt this year--I was under the impression that adoptions were an extra pledge, but as long as you pay your pledge in full, you get the swag AND something you stake a claim for. I've been pledging over several shows and a lump sum afterwards, but next year I think I'll send in my payment early, and adopt something.
  3:50pm
bob:

you can be anyone you want this time around
  3:50pm
Matt from Springfield:

Ha ha, now that I looked up Skip Spence, I totally see him as "Fabio" in a Skip-Capt. Kangaroo pairing!
  3:51pm
BSI:

Thanks Matt. I promise to return him in the same condition I found him in. Or at least relatively un-damaged.
  3:51pm

Speaking of NZ musicians, I'd like to say that the only Oscar I cared about this year was the one for original song. And yay! Bret McKenzie won!
  4:30pm
Cecile:

I said Hunters and Collectors, Chris. LOL!
But I missed those other folks...thanks!!
  4:30pm
Cecile:

I know, Caryn! I missed the ceremony, but only regretted I missed his win.
  4:32pm
Chris from DC:

Oops, sorry! Got carried away.
  4:32pm
Upsidedown Mike:

The NZ music scene is nice .. and oddly, sometimes I learn more about it through fmu!
  4:33pm
Cecile:

Ha, hardly!

Caryn, we should meet up in New Zealand and go stalk Jemaine Clement, er, I mean see loads of really good bands...

COMIC PSYCHOS....
  4:33pm

Have we reached the goal yet?
  4:34pm

Upsidedown Mike - many Minneapolis bands get more play on 'FMU that at home. I completely know.
  4:34pm
Cecile:

MD - RIGHT ON. How could I forget them....
  4:34pm
Marc:

What if Clay Pidgeon was paired with Professor Dum Dum for next years Marathon? That would be great radio.
  4:35pm
Cecile:

Marc, I would last 15 minute, which would be 5 minutes longer than any DumDum show I've listened to...
  4:37pm
Cecile:

Cannanes? I get them mixed up with the Spinanes...
  4:37pm

who's the grand prize director?

  4:44pm
Mr Donut:

Positively 4th Street is in Dinkytown
  4:44pm
Caryn:

@Cecile: great idea! It's a plan so cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel.
  4:45pm
Mpls. Thom:

make a series of photographs, of chance encountered people sharing a set of headphones listening to music. one of the earpieces in one persons ear the second in the others.
  4:45pm
Fredericks:

Now you've mentioned Hot-Wheels Fabio!
  4:46pm
BSI:

FIRST MENTION OF A WEASEL ALL DAY!
WHEEEEEEE!
  4:47pm
Amanda:

Thank you for the serenades, Clay. You make songs I was hoping to never hear again (except "I Love LA," which obvs. rules) a pleasure. I like that everything is silly and unpredictable but in ways that always fit. Blinking and saying "what the --" to the radio all the time, this to me is one of life's keenest pleasures. And then also Fabio is a great curator.
  4:47pm
kata:

tuning in late, what a treat! love the Fab-Clay tag team..
  4:48pm

  4:49pm
bob:

bbc6 is paylisted -about 85%-- pluggers etc
  4:49pm
Caryn:

Intrigued by the Koreyoshi Kurahara prize. Only familiar with "The Warped Ones" and its' pseudo-sequel "Black Sun", but the "Thirst for Love" book is superb. And Kurahara's "Nankyoku Monogatari" was fantastic.
  4:50pm

  4:50pm

THE CHURCH!! thx Mariano!
  4:50pm

  4:50pm
Cecile:

Yes, Australian.
  4:51pm
bob:

wfmu is not in the pay of domino records and sony etc
  4:51pm
Matt from Springfield:

Several more "adopters" have joined the board:
Cecile, 12539, Caryn (pending!), thank you guys!
  4:51pm
fred:

@Caryn: was it the track you were looking for?
  4:52pm
Matt from Springfield:

Boards of Canada would work -- Fabio should approve, and Clay can sing over them!
  4:55pm
Cecile:

thank YOU matt!
  4:56pm
Cecile:

Green Hornet!
  4:56pm
Mr Donut:

BSI:

antibodies?
  4:58pm
G:

@Matt: Wasn't at keyboard when you posted your original adopter query. I adopted Monica's board. I've adopted someone or something every year since adoptions started, maybe four or so years ago now.
  4:58pm
Matt from Springfield:

I like the Green Hornet trumpet, didn't know Al Hirt played that.

Wynton Marsalis is a very "flourishy" trumpet/coronet player, but his speed and agility is insane! Love him! My fav "Flight of the Bumble Bee" is played by him. He also plays Herman Bellstedt's arrangement of "Funiculi Funicula" amazingly.
  4:59pm
Matt from Springfield:

Congrats, thank you G! Irwin -> Monica is a nice transition.
  5:00pm
BSI:

still suffering adopter separation-anxiety from Bryce and the Vinyl Cross... heavy sigh...
  5:00pm
Michael:

Yeah, sing over Boards of Canada man Clay! Come on! Clay vs Aquarius.
  5:01pm
fred:

Adoptions seems to have been taken over by the TSA or something. So many are pending right now, and have been for days.
  5:01pm
Matt from Springfield:

Blumin IS awesome! Saturday nights, check out his show followed by Joe McGasko. They are the Diumvirate of Saturday nights when they talk on Air!
  5:02pm
Caryn:

I wonder how many young people know about the "Green Hornet" connection (especially seeing as the new movie version wasn't a huge hit)? Methinks most of them only connect the track with "Kill Bill".
  5:03pm
Matt from Springfield:

To those who didn't listen to Julie's show this week, some new items in the Merriam-Webster-Pigeon dictionary:

Diumvirate: Fabio and Clay, because they're DYING without Julie!
Biumvirate: Julie and Clay, because they're getting BY just fine!
Triumvirate: Fabio, Clay and Julie, because they'll TRY anything!
  5:05pm
Matt from Springfield:

We are live! In Leeds!

  5:29pm

There are LOTS of Clay fans, even when they're not here!
  5:29pm
pierre:

@matt: that's pretty cool!
  5:29pm
Looms:

@Pierre: well, I don't know: I'm a French/Italian/Hungarian mixture.
  5:29pm

Just when I thought Clay couldn't be nuttier, he breaks out the German accent! There is no limit! And I love it!
  5:30pm
Chris from DC:

He referred to it as Zach's or something:)
  5:30pm

Ike:

Matamoras is close to Mt. Hope, almost right across the Delaware River.

Jim:

The applause that followed JFK's famous "we choose to go to the moon" quote from a Rice University speech was actually for a joke that immediately preceded that quote. The joke went "But why, some say, the moon? Why choose this as our goal? And they may well ask why climb the highest mountain? Why, 35 years ago, fly the Atlantic? Why does Rice play Texas?"

@Pierre: Lebanese food is so great. Used to eat a lot of it when I lived in Senegal (as strange as it might seem)
  5:38pm
pierre:

I'd love a Dusty show from Paris, that would be something.
  5:38pm
Caryn:

@Fredericks: that is awesome
  5:39pm
Matt from Springfield:

Slàinte, pierre!
Do you know where in Scotland your ancestors came from? I have a lot of Lowland/Borders Scots, Ulster-Scots and scattered Highland and Islands ancestors.

  5:41pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Looms: I love all Mediterranean food: Italian, Greek, eastern Med, Arab, Moroccan, Spanish...it freakin' ROCKS!

@pierre: Or, any foreign Dusty Show. When he was in Switzerland, he should have interviewed locals and tourists in the towns where he was staying. An international perspective.
  5:42pm
Looms:

@Kitty: can Clay say: "les chaussettes de l'archiduchesse sont sèches, archi sèches"?
And most important: can you? ;)

Speaking of Switzerland and skiing, Clay took my pledge on Julie's show, and I told him I was glad he didn't get a concussion this time! First time he came back from skiing without a scratch in a while! :)

In German class I learned a "Zungenbrecher" or two, have to see if I recall them...

I'm still recovering about the one time I pledged to Fabio's show. I didn't know I was forcing him to reveal his personal mantra when I did. I'm wary of these stunts now.
