Boob Cigar:

Hollywood Skype! In the Hollywood Hills!
It was soundin’ so right, it was givin’ him chills!
  6:05pm
Danne D:

Chris T going all Hollywood on us. Hope he's shaking down some of those big money Hollywood exec for some $$$. Of course that doesn't preclude you from doing your part and helping WFMU. Call 800-989-9368 - rumor has it that the incredible Skirkie might be the one taking your call!
  6:06pm
Danne D:

And of course Dennis is a NJ icon and a great fill-in. This is a good time to show your appreciation for his support for WFMU by chipping in some support of your own.
  6:07pm
seang:

Break On Through is an epic song
  6:08pm
Danne D:

Is it just me that's hearing a little wigginess with Chris' audio?
  6:08pm
Danne D:

(I'm listing on Flash for those checking things out)
  6:09pm
G:

I'm hearing a few little dropouts on the 32k stream
  6:10pm
Caryn:

Well, his Skype is breaking up occasionally, but I don't know if there's anything else wrong.
  6:10pm
seang:

a little wiggy yes
  6:10pm
joe:

band underrated Morrison way overrated
  6:11pm
Danne D:

(Different Dan - not me btw) I'll be calling during the show though :)
  6:12pm
Danne D:

Question for Patrick he of the pledge from Mountlake Terrace - do they still have that Whirlyball place out there?

Really having trouble hearing Chris - keeps cutting out.
  6:13pm
Marmalade Kitty:

how does the aerial view lighter compare to a zippo..?
  6:14pm
alberto:

i think what happens with most male music lovers (post morrison's death) is that they go through a doors phase. the doors just become unlistenable after adolescents/college years.
  6:15pm
Marmalade Kitty:

btw, I'm not being funny..
  6:16pm
G:

Two words shedding some light on why The Doors can be embarrassing: "The Producers."
  6:16pm
Danne D:

Dennis is right. $1 is more than the cost of a can of beans:

  6:17pm
Danne D:

Chris now coming in fine, by the way.
  6:20pm
G:

Pledging progress bar is movin' along -- 44% at 20 past!
  6:20pm
Caryn:

I like The Doors simply for the music and for Morrison's voice. Cut away the meandering philosophical, pseudo-shamanistic crap, and there are good songs there.
  6:21pm
Danne D:

There's been like, what, 800 or so episodes of Aerial View over the years? Hope somebody with deep pockets can show the love and donate just 50 cents per episode and call in with a nice $400 pledge. Or if that's too much, donate 10 cents per episode ($80) which will get you Chris T's premium (which actually you get for $75, but just round up)
  6:21pm
Andrew Waterloo:

The Doors are a gateway band. For the young listener there is a lot there that this interesting and exotic. As you grow more, hear more, and read more that appeal wears off quickly.
  6:22pm
seang:

good point Caryn
  6:23pm
Violet:

Show your love for Chris and WFMU with $$$. Chris always delivers, rain, snow, sleet and vacation!
  6:26pm
seang:

strawberry fields forever starts with a mellotron
  6:26pm
Marmalade Kitty:

Strawberry fields was the first beatle song with mellotron
  6:27pm
Marmalade Kitty:

snap! :)
  6:28pm
Caryn:

Someone may owe someone a coke...
  6:28pm
Danne D:

Andrew mentions the Doors are a gateway band, well Aerial View is a gateway show for WFMU (it was my gateway show in fact) - if that's the case for you call with a pledge to thank Chris T for introducing you to this great station.
  6:29pm
seang:

yeah baby
  6:32pm
Caryn:

The Doors: overrated by teenage (and sometimes permanently teenaged) fans for Morrison's self-created mythology and often middling poetry. Because of this, underrated as the creators of good, catchy rock music.
  6:33pm
Violet:

The recession is over! Celebrate and pledge $75.00 to Aerial view. Let Chris light up your life for another year with an aerial view lighter, check out the video. It's the coolest lighter ever.
  6:34pm
Caryn:

Oh, Bruce McCullogh, you magnificent bastard!
  6:35pm
Marmalade Kitty:

I agree with the record store guy!
  6:35pm
seang:

the doors of perception have been opened
  6:35pm
Danne D:

OOPS - forgot to put my vote on the Doors on my pledge card. For the record I think the Doors are neither over-rated nor under-rated. They are rated right about where they should be.

Plus, like Jonathan Richman, Morrison is one of the few singers in my vocal range.
  6:36pm
Danne D:

I have to say, most dead people tend to be unapproachable and thus come off as a little pretentious.
  6:37pm
Adam in Portland:

I look askance at those wearing leather pants in general.
  6:37pm
Andrew Waterloo:

Caryn, I agree.
  6:38pm
Danne D:

Yep - that's me.

Btw here's the tumblr:
http://wfmu.tumblr.com/
  6:38pm
Steve Howe:

Case in point: Trevor Rabin.
  6:40pm
Danne D:

The jingle:

  6:40pm
Adam in Portland:

Charlie Watts: the silent assassin.
  6:40pm
Danne D:

Whoa Steve Howe is on here? Can Carl Palmer be far behind given the drummer talk?
  6:41pm
Caryn:

Well, Morrison was not necessarily pretentious. That would imply he was serious about his whole schtick. He may have just been cultivating the whole mystic thing to create an image for the band and for himself. Helps sell the whole thing. The problem is, the image has stuck too well, turning many people off. But heck, the image keeps bringing in other people, so...
  6:42pm
Andrew Waterloo:

Simple unsteady rhythms are criminally underrated in the rock world.
  6:42pm
Carl Palmer:

Simple is overrated. Shocking I'd say that, huh?
  6:46pm
Danne D:

Watts vs Starr debate (starting at the Page where I guess someone brought Palmer into the mix)
http://www.iorr.org/talk/read.php?1,1164293,page=4
  6:47pm
Caryn:

Yep, The Doors played at the Singer Bowl. You can download video and audio of the performance all over the place.
  6:47pm
Nancy K:

I say the Doors at Hunter College around '68. I think in the spring. I was 14 and JM made me real nervous. Thanks for bringing up Clay Cole. There was great music on TV in those days.
  6:49pm
Marmalade Kitty:

Jim morrisson was in touch with his third eye.. theres nothing necessarily pretentious about that
  6:49pm
Scuttle:

Loved Robby Krieger so much as a teenager, freaked out when I saw him on Married With Children. Weird cameo
  6:49pm
Danne D:

Btw, ranking drummers is a bit much - it is horses for courses. Swapping Palmer and Watts would do neither of their bands a favor.
  6:50pm
Danne D:

Will save any further prog rock for Vance's appearance on the Best Show :)
  6:50pm

  6:52pm
Marmalade Kitty:

when the 3rd eye sees things as they truly are..
  6:52pm
Danne D:

I will now gratuitously post the #5 to myself.

That is an awesome grand prize, btw! Folks should get in the running for that!
  6:53pm
jim:

did someone insinuate that pop music was invalid because girls bought it? fmu puts up with masagony?
  6:54pm
G:

Doors played Hunter College Playhouse 24 Nov 1967
  6:54pm
Jim:

Is it pretentious to call The Doors pretentious?
  6:55pm
seang:

Condo Fucks!
  6:55pm
glenn:

my understanding is that jim wore the leather pants because they wouldn't fall apart like denim.
  6:55pm
G:

Is it pretentious to say that it's pretentious to call calling the Doors pretentious pretentious?
  6:56pm
jim:

my wife just pointed that out!
  6:56pm
G:

:-)
  6:57pm
Scuttle:

Saw "reformed" Doors with lead singer from The Cult at a state fair, in between song chat involved the mystical desert.

Adam in Portland:

Ian Astbury is a yogini.
  6:59pm
Danne D:

WOOHOO!!!! Fantastic! :)
  7:00pm
Nancy K:

My memory isn't as sharp as it once was. I loved them then, but they didn't hold up for me.
  7:00pm
Caryn:

Well, at least we got over 50 %.
  7:02pm
Jim Morrison:

I am interested in anything about revolt, disorder, chaos-especially activity that seems to have no meaning. It seems to me to be the road toward freedom... Rather than starting inside, I start outside and reach the mental through the physical.
