Listener comments!

  3:07am Brian en Angleterre:

Mornin' Bill. Hope it's warmer where you are, it's friggin' cold here. Apt programme title today, back under the covers!!
Ah shipbuilding, appropriate with all the posturing twixt us and the Argentines over the Falklands.
  3:08am Brian en Angleterre:

  3:10am Martyn:

Good morning Bill and all except Brian.
Bonjour Brian.
  3:10am T-Zero:

Morning, Bill and Brian. Really cold here too (17F) and a little snow, but not much. Perhaps bill should play Valaida Snow... lol Then again, don't know about trumpets in this set...
  3:11am T-Zero:

Hi, Martyn. Didn't see you pop in.

Love Pere Ubu...
Avatar 3:12am Bill Mac:

Yo Brian! The title of today's show was a comment a local woman made on the news in reference to all the fees banks attach to their services. They're robbing you at every turn! Morning All! We got snow on the way and cold this weekend. Back up to 50F by the end of the week though!
  3:19am Brian en Angleterre:

T-Zero Do not know if you have read Alfred Jarry's original Ubu a most unpleasant man. There is an interesting take on him at this theatre as a war criminal.
  3:19am Looms:

Coucou fellows!
  3:20am Brian en Angleterre:

Bonjour Martyn. Ca va?
Avatar 3:22am Bill Mac:

  3:23am T-Zero:

@Brian: No. Don't know anything about Ubu Roi... will check out the link

Morning, Looms
  3:25am Martyn:

Très bien merci Brian.

(no more French please, I'm struggling already)
  3:26am Brian en Angleterre:

What Ho Looms. There is much debate here about the bonus payments to bankers albeit made in shares but adding up to seven figures for doing their jobs.
  3:29am T-Zero:

@Brian: My exposure to theatre of the absurd is pretty much limited to Artaud and Jean Genet
  3:35am Looms:

-5°C, damn it!
@Brian: I wonder why people are pissed off ;) Quick profit has always been a curse.
  3:36am Brian en Angleterre:

Hang the rich!!
  3:37am Brian en Angleterre:

Wasn't Heine a writer?
  3:38am Looms:

Don't hang the rich WFMU pledgers... Not yet.
  3:41am Brian en Angleterre:

Looms if we were rich there would be no need for a marafun.
  3:44am Looms:

We poor bastards, boohoo!
Avatar 3:45am Bill Mac:

Marafun.... I might use that... I'll be behind a large pane of glass in case people don't think it's clever...
  3:47am Looms:

Do you know who you're teaming with during the marafun, Bill?
Avatar 3:50am Bill Mac:

I'm doing Jeff's and Dan Blumin's shows, and I got Jack Mello and Mr Hazelton on my show... should be a good time once I get past the butterflies, which i still get every time we do this
  3:55am Looms:

Nice program.
Avatar 3:56am Bill Mac:

Thanks Man. I was rarin' to go today
  3:58am Looms:

Please keep it jumpy, it would be perfect to forget the cold ;)
  4:12am Jay/ London:

hey bill greetings from a sunny cold London
Avatar 4:13am Bill Mac:

Hiya Jay! Seems it's cold all over today
  4:16am Brian en Angleterre:

Cannot put off painting the kitchen any longer. Might do it in the style of Kandinsky!
Avatar 4:17am Bill Mac:

It's not gonna paint itself.... who let Dad in?
  4:18am T-Zero:

Heh, that sounds good to me (Kandinsky)... would certainly wake you up in the mornings
  4:19am T-Zero:

Morning, Jay
  4:19am Caryn:

Hello all! Missed the start of the show, because I kept going back to my mattress for some more shuteye.
  4:20am T-Zero:

@Brian: I like his Bauhaus period best...
Avatar 4:20am Bill Mac:

What's wrong with you Caryn, it's 4 in the morning!
  4:22am Brian en Angleterre:

Dada for now.

In lieu of nothing, Bob Mould's Sugar album Copper Blue has been played madly this weeat home and in car. It's great when you dig out an old one. Twenty years old would you believe.
Caryn Bill was asking for Finnish listeners earlier
Avatar 4:26am Bill Mac:

I know what you mean Brian... I still immediately think of that as "new" music.... remember when it was unheard of for bands to be together for more than 5 years? How long for the Stones now? 50?
  4:26am Jay/ London:

Hi T-zero you keeping warm
i got up late again too caryn my bed was so nice and warm :)
  4:26am Caryn:

@Brian: aww, shoot! Yeah, I noticed the Finnish acts on the playlist. Well, Finland is in the house now!
Avatar 4:27am Bill Mac:

Don't forget your umlauts!
  4:28am Looms:

@Bill: any chance you could play Careering by Peter Hammill?
Hello Jay and Caryn.
  4:28am Brian en Angleterre:

H to He who am the only one. What does it all mean?
Stones too long, Bill.
T-Zero I saw a picture recently of Jackson Pollock's studio. The floor where the paint had fallen looked just like one of his pictures, if you get my drift.
Avatar 4:29am Bill Mac:

You got me Bri.... Speking of Relics VDGG still get out to play together.
Avatar 4:30am Bill Mac:

@Looms.... any idea of what album that might be on?
  4:30am Looms:

  4:30am T-Zero:

@Jay: Woke up about 2:30 myself. Got my coffee and all cozy. It's gone from -8 to -14C though in the last hour.

@Brian: So glad you mentioned Pollock. I was trying to recall his name and it just wouldn't come to me... Was thinking that would be an easy way for you to pain the kitchen... just fling the brush around...
  4:30am Marmalade Kitty:

morning! this is grrrreat!!
Avatar 4:31am Bill Mac:

  4:31am Looms:

Hey Kitty!
  4:32am Marmalade Kitty:

what is the name of the band on the cover of wfmu?
  4:32am Caryn:

@Bill Mac: Älä pelkää, niin ei pääse käymään!
Just for you, man!

Hi Looms!

I think the last two album titles all have good messages for us.
  4:32am Marmalade Kitty:

  4:33am Caryn:

Kitty kat!
  4:35am Caryn:

But as for the other album titles... darn, I haven't filed Cramps under "sacred music". Then again, I don't divide my records by style.
  4:36am king penguin:

Love Tim Buckley. Thanks.
  4:36am Brian en Angleterre:

Useless fact. The Nice album title is made up of parts of the groups' names.

king penguin you must be lovin' this weather.
Avatar 4:37am Bill Mac:

No problem Penny
Avatar 4:38am Bill Mac:

@Brian... I knew this... what a awkward title for an album, even by psyche standards...
Avatar 4:39am Bill Mac:

@Caryn... I couldn't agree more with the sentiment though...
  4:40am Marmalade Kitty:

who's the photo of the day?
  4:40am king penguin:

It's about time. I almost went all the way back down south for winter.
  4:41am Caryn:

I also haven't draped any Musette album in velvet. But if anyone opens a junkshop glam discotheque, I'll be there!
@Brian: I keep staring at that album title and thinking it would be at least a little better if the second name was written as Jackdav. At least that way it would be close to an actual word (jackdaw).
  4:42am Looms:

Avatar 4:42am Bill Mac:

OK, I'll bite.... what does jackdaw mean?
Avatar 4:43am Bill Mac:

@Kitty Photo of the Day? Where?
  4:43am Caryn:

@Bill Mac: it's a bird.
  4:43am T-Zero:

It's a bird
  4:43am T-Zero:

Avatar 4:44am Bill Mac:

I'm gonna need to see a pic...
  4:44am T-Zero:

@Bill: More... it's a crow
  4:46am Marmalade Kitty:

the picture of the band on web page. dunno what youz seein..
  4:46am Caryn:

I'm also wondering if the Dungen album and label are both Douglas Adams references. ("Ta det lungt" is how they translated "Don't panic" in the Hitchhiker books. It means "take it easy" or "relax".)
@Bill Mac: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jackdaw
  4:47am Phil Collins:

Starr is vastly underrated. The drum fills on the song "A Day in the Life" are very complex things. You could take a great drummer today and say, 'I want it like that.' He wouldn't know what to do.
  4:50am Marmalade Kitty:

the band on the wfmu.org home page???
  4:50am Brian en Angleterre:

Lord Buckley was not a freak.
  4:52am Caryn:

@Kitty: been wondering that myself. I even checked out the pic properties, but it's just "girl bands 12".
  4:54am Marmalade Kitty:

where is the bird? crow? ?
  4:55am Stanley:

Hello everyone. Bit of a late start this morning. Digging the show though from the safety of the duvet.
  4:56am T-Zero:

Morning, Stanley
  4:57am Marmalade Kitty:

maybe the band in the picture don't have a name... lets think of a name for the band!?
  4:58am Looms:

Stanley, you sleepyhead!
@Kitty: The Mysterious Psych Four
Avatar 4:59am Bill Mac:

OK... I'm thinking
  4:59am Caryn:

That's it, the band is Jackdaw. And thus we have combined the two niggling topics of the day into a nice bundle.
  5:00am Jay/ London:

what about ( The Time warp Four )
Avatar 5:00am Bill Mac:

I like when things get neatly resolved... howsabout Uriah Heep?
  5:01am Marmalade Kitty:

where is the bird, please? :)
  5:05am Caryn:

@Kitty: the bird discussion starts with my 4:41 comment regarding the The Nice album title.
Avatar 5:06am Bill Mac:

I'd loooove to see a picture of a jackdaw however.
  5:06am Looms:

Need for breakfast, Kitty? ;)
  5:06am Marmalade Kitty:

I see..sorry, Caryn! :)
  5:08am Matt from Springfield:

Hello Bill! Hello EVERYONE!
I crashed early Friday night and so unusually I'm up right now!
  5:09am Matt from Springfield:

I like the "Legend of a Mind" connection--that's the title of the Moody Blues "Timothy Leary's Dead.." song.
  5:09am Marmalade Kitty:

Hi Matt!
  5:11am Matt from Springfield:

You're a better listener than me, up before 10 am on Saturday!
Avatar 5:11am Bill Mac:

That's right brother! Can't go wrong with Legends. Three CDs of 60s 70s rock and progressive. Welcome to the party!
  5:12am Jay/ London:

hi Marmalade kitty how's it going you still want to do the meet up ?
  5:13am hamburger:

woaaaaawwww hey porter
  5:13am Marmalade Kitty:

I'm half asleep here :)
  5:13am Matt from Springfield:

Hey Bill!
There was a metal cover of Del's "Runaway" on BTs show this week by Disunicorps. I termed it "Del-core"!
  5:14am Matt from Springfield:

LIVE walkin' the line!
London represent! Hey Jay and hamburger!
  5:15am Marmalade Kitty:

Hi Jay, Hamburger!
  5:15am Jay/ London:

hey matt you in the uk ?
  5:16am Marmalade Kitty:

Yes we should, jay..
  5:16am Brian en Angleterre:

Oh Bill. You play a whole show of Phil's music. This was part of 1968s discoveries. Made my day.
Avatar 5:16am Bill Mac:

Hey Burger@!
Avatar 5:17am Bill Mac:

Hey Bri, I saw a program on him last month or so... interesting dude...
  5:17am Matt from Springfield:

I am a big fan of Ochs, and of folk/country/blues, but I'm amazed at the catchy "galloping" rhythm of this one! More punchy than Phil's usual guitaring. Like Phil Ochs with Bert Jansch or someone playing for him!
Avatar 5:18am Bill Mac:

Del-core.... that's awesome...
  5:18am Matt from Springfield:

@Jay: Nope, just an Anglophile and WFMU-phile, who appears at regular and irregular hours! :)

Virginia, United States of A.
  5:20am Brian en Angleterre:

May sound spooky. I would like 'Rehersals for Retirement' played at my funeral.
Matt he wrote this after Chicago '68 which really turned his head around.
  5:20am Caryn:

@Bill Mac: if you follow the link I posted for you, you'll see about 10 pics of jackdaws
  5:21am Jay/ London:

@ marmalade Kitty i will email you about it. I go into Hospital on the 13/212 @ matt from springfield all is clear now :)
Avatar 5:21am Bill Mac:

@Caryn Figgers.... I could stand to pay a little more attention myself....
  5:22am Caryn:

Oh please, Bill, you got a whole show to pay attention to here!
  5:23am hamburger:

love me some falsetto(?) lady old timey singing in the morrrrnings yo ho ho hooooooo
  5:23am Bin Lovin:

We have 3 feet of snow in Bulgaria....don't be jealous. We ski on the streets. :)
  5:23am Jay/ London:

oh wrong date its 13/3/2012 is the right date kitty think i am not that much awake yet!!!
  5:24am Matt from Springfield:

The Sparrow ups the ante with some picong!
Avatar 5:25am Bill Mac:

Yo Bin.... I envy that you're skiing in the streets... wouldn't wanna do it out of necessity though!
  5:25am Veronica:

Hello everyone...just tuning in. Looks like it's been a great show so far...I'll have to listen to the archive.
Avatar 5:26am Bill Mac:

Hey Veronica.... still plenty of music to fit in....
  5:26am Matt from Springfield:

@BL: It's been so mild most of this winter in the States, yet it's really cold in western Europe, and even more so (sometimes fatally so) in eastern Europe.

Still, a nice sight to be skiing in the street. Stay warm, and have fun with that!
  5:26am Veronica:

I'm all ears.
  5:27am Stanley:

Hey just discovered I can post to the comments board from my bed on the mobile phone! Life doesn't get better than this.
  5:29am Matt from Springfield:

Barbara Lynn doing Hank Williams! Wonderful!!
Avatar 5:29am Bill Mac:

Cat's out of the bag! now no one will move out of bed!
Avatar 5:30am Bill Mac:

Wow Matt, I picked the song cos of the title, but I didn't hear it until now!
  5:30am T-Zero:

@Jay: Dang. The temp has dropped even more. Now it's -17C

I hope your medical stuff works out soon.
  5:31am Marmalade Kitty:

Sly Fox sounds like Amanda!
  5:32am Caryn:

I'm under the covers too! Of course, I'm on my couch. It's just too cold not to have some blankets on. Outside, people skiing on the street (my dad included). Don't own skis, so will just walk.
  5:33am T-Zero:

Very little snow here, mostly ice
  5:34am Veronica:

I'll take snow or ice. I'm in California and it felt like spring today. I miss real winters.
  5:35am Matt from Springfield:

@Bill: Picked it out because of the "whipporwhill" at the beginning! Didn't know anything about that cover, thanks!
@MK: Maybe with a Casio rhythm going, and a couple Indian hoots! :)
Avatar 5:35am Bill Mac:

Yeah, it'll be ice here later in the evening... people skiing here would be just a mite surreal, especially if there was snow on the snow.... without snow, just stoopit...
  5:35am Stanley:

@kitty I thought exactly the same
  5:36am T-Zero:

@Veronia: Heh, and I miss California's climate. Moved here from San Diego.
  5:36am Jay/ London:

@ T-zero its about 0c here in London snow still on the heath and can see people playing football there seems go well with this music
  5:40am T-Zero:

@Jay: When the kicked the ball, if here, it'd probably shatter ;)
  5:41am Jay/ London:

@T-zero he he
  5:43am T-Zero:

@Jay: I'm glad I went out earlier in the week to get the shopping done. It was still in the 10Cs just a couple of days ago.
  5:44am Matt from Springfield:

A while back there was a cosmic concurrence of "Wooden Ships" for me--I heard it on a public music system, XM, FMU--the Airplane and CSNY's version, all within a few days.
  5:45am Marmalade Kitty:

Eskimo blue day is my favourite from volunteers, magnificent album!
Avatar 5:46am Bill Mac:

Need to dive into their stuff a bit more.... toooo much stufff!!!
  5:49am Flakey Foont:

Great show Bill. Listen' from my bath!
  5:50am T-Zero:

I need to do that with Leonard Cohen... I'd never listened to him much, but with the FMU airplay he gets I've found I really like him.
  5:50am Jay/ London:

@ t-zero it has not got above 3c here 10c would be very nice
  5:51am T-Zero:

@Jay: Yeah. It's been a bizarre winter here. The temp this morning in more normal... But it's supposed to warm back up in a few days
  5:52am Matt from Springfield:

ROY HARPER! Thought fer sure that was going to be Dylan when I heard that intro--Roy's an underrated legend!
Avatar 5:53am Bill Mac:

Yo Foont! Careful with that soap!
Avatar 5:53am Bill Mac:

Jeff will be playing more of this on his show... I predict
  5:54am Caryn:

@Matt: hah, with me, it was a draw between Dylan and Donovan. But yay, Harper! This whole show has been an overdose of good music.
  5:54am Brian en Angleterre:

Good luck with the op Jay.

Back to internet radio & painting. Keep it coming Bill.
  5:54am Jay/ London:

i must go buy old ideas soon :) @ T-zero bizarre is the word odd weather all over the world
  5:55am T-Zero:

Yeah. I'm glad I didn't wake up until 2:30 so I'll still be up for Jeff's show. I like it a lot!
  5:55am Emile:

Ack... late to the game (again)... missed van der Graaf Generator??
  5:55am Brian en Angleterre:

Growing older but not up.
Avatar 5:56am Bill Mac:

Wooo Folks, another one done.... so... enjoy the rest of the weekend and stay warm! Springs a week closer so cheer up!!!
  5:56am Emile:

I don't want to grow up, either.
  5:56am Matt from Springfield:

@Caryn: Yeah, great music this show! Glad to catch Bill live, and Jeff too! I never get to catch him live either!
  5:57am Jay/ London:

@ Brian en Angleterre thanks, i am counting the days till i go in
  5:58am Jay/ London:

  5:58am Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Bill!
Great weekend wishes to everyone as well!
  5:58am Stanley:

Bye Bill, bye everyone. Have a good week and take care.
  5:58am Caryn:

Hate to be like this, but please add the s to Tom's name, Bill.
But great show today! Like always.
  5:59am T-Zero:

Take care Bill, thanks again! Have a good week everyone. Hopefully will see y'all here next week if not before elswhere.

@Brian: Let us know if Kandinsky or Pollock won out...
  6:00am Marmalade Kitty:

Take it easy Bill! have a great weekend everyone!
