You see a blanket on the ground. It's your favorite color, smooth and soft. You can sit on it, or lie on it. It's a flying blanket, and you are the pilot. You are in control. You can fly anywhere you wish, just by thinking about it. You are the pilot.

Heya Richard
Mon. 2/6/12 9:13pm Upside down Mike:

I kinda wish Mark was my grandpa
Avatar Mon. 2/6/12 9:15pm Dan B:

@UDM, I think he is.

Mike>>Are you that young??
  Mon. 2/6/12 9:19pm Destroit:

Hello Dan and everyone.
  Mon. 2/6/12 9:20pm Mike East:

Really digging Jonathan Kane's February.
  Mon. 2/6/12 9:20pm Bill:

Hi everyone. This may be a little off topic, but in the spirit of the superbowl, does anyone remember the Giants theme song from Superbowl 21 "...going to Pasadena to have some fun...". I would love to hear that again.
Avatar Mon. 2/6/12 9:21pm Dan B:

@Destroit, welcome back. @Mike East, these guys really burn it up. @Bill, I'm sorry, I'm all superboweled out.
  Mon. 2/6/12 9:23pm PB:

The Cramps never get old.
  Mon. 2/6/12 9:23pm Destroit:

I have dozens of Superboweled jokes but I'll refrain. ;)
  Mon. 2/6/12 9:24pm Mike East:

That C to E chord change is one of my faves. Ken played that and another track last week on his show. I'm gonna have to try and catch them...someday when I have time
Mon. 2/6/12 9:25pm Richard from Venezuela:

i discovered JKF through Free Music Archive. very good sound.
  Mon. 2/6/12 9:26pm PB:

Didn't Alex Chilton produce a few of the early Cramps singles?
  Mon. 2/6/12 9:27pm Mike East:

ah, thanks for the tip, Richard. I'll check out the FMA
  Mon. 2/6/12 9:27pm T-Zero:

Thought that was Alan Vega... had to check the playlist...

you're welcome
  Mon. 2/6/12 9:29pm PB:

I saw Suicide live once. One of them (don't remember if it was Vega or Rev) was wielding a broken beer bottle like a deranged maniac. I quickly went to the back of the hall.
  Mon. 2/6/12 9:30pm slugluv1313:

NEW KIND OF KICK!!!!!!!! YEAAH!!!!!!!!
Avatar Mon. 2/6/12 9:32pm Dan B:

Yes, Chilton produced a lot of early Cramps stuff
  Mon. 2/6/12 9:35pm Marmalade Kitty:

Fab set, Dan!
Mon. 2/6/12 9:40pm Randy in NC:

Most early Queen albums say no synthesizers were used.
  Mon. 2/6/12 9:41pm b-minus:

eno's before and after science states "no noise reduction systems were used"
  Mon. 2/6/12 9:44pm Taylor:

What's a good in point for The Necks? They have a lot of albums. Way too many in fact. Like trying to get into Joe Frank for the first time.
  Mon. 2/6/12 9:44pm G:

After getting slagged for years over arguably cheesy synth patch choices, Stephin Merritt's Magnetic Fields album _i_ prided itself on having no snyth sounds at all.
  Mon. 2/6/12 9:45pm Martin,Copenhagen:

Yeah!...Owed t´Alex!
  Mon. 2/6/12 9:47pm Martin,Copenhagen:

...Sorry...Floppy boot stomp.Hah..Got a little caried away there
  Mon. 2/6/12 9:49pm Martin,Copenhagen:

Drumbo did a good job with the vocals too
  Mon. 2/6/12 9:51pm Steve-O:

Hey Dan. Used to listen to snippets of your show after the preceding episode of For the Record back about a couple years ago. Speaking of that, what's your opinion of Dave Emory? =)
Avatar Mon. 2/6/12 9:52pm Dan B:

@All, thanks for all the suggestions of albums that didn't use something or other in the recording! @Taylor, I'd say enter the Necks via Sex (one of their first). Also great is Next, another early album, with several long tracks rather than the single track most albums have; for more recent stuff, you can't go wrong with Townsville, Silverwater (what I use for a bed when I talk), and the new one Mindset.
Avatar Mon. 2/6/12 9:59pm Dan B:

@Steve-O, I haven't ever met Dave Emory so I don't have an opinion of the man. Always wanted to do a show when I followed him that would just consist of me layering and remixing multiple shows of his and running them through effects, etc. His radio presence is very entrancing.
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:00pm PB:

The prices quoted on Amazon for some of the Necks CDs are outrageous.
Avatar Mon. 2/6/12 10:06pm Dan B:

forcedexposure.com has most of their titles at more reasonable prices. You have to find a distributor affiliated with their label (ReR Megacorp), which is based in the UK. I think all the Necks albums are import.
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:07pm jason:

this song is outrageous
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:08pm steve:

this is awesome
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:14pm jason:

hahaha
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:14pm cleanbean:

LMAO
Mon. 2/6/12 10:14pm Kat in Chicago:

Wow, I just bought the 12" of this Dinosaur L on Saturday... what are the odds?
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:16pm T-Zero:

I don't know how I managed for so many years to have never heard of Dinosaur L until I started listening to WFMU.
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:26pm penelope:

hi Dan!
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:26pm Matttttttttttttttttttttttttt:

ahehae this show is so gooooooood
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:27pm Bill:

I guess Spacemen 3 can't come up with original album names either?
Avatar Mon. 2/6/12 10:28pm Dan B:

@Kat, that's crazy! You will have a clean bean for sure! @Penelope, hi you! @Matttttttttttt spread the word and thanks! @T-Zero, I also never heard of Dinosaur L before WFMU exposed me to it.
Avatar Mon. 2/6/12 10:28pm Dan B:

@Bill, yeah, they were pretty influenced by these early NYC minimalist moves.
Avatar Mon. 2/6/12 10:29pm Dan B:

@Bill, there's another Angus Maclise album called Dreamweapon out on, I think, Table of the Elements records. Not sure if it's still in print, came out about 10 years back.
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:30pm Bill:

I think this song already has more different tones than all of S3's Dreamweapon!
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:31pm ADM:

Angus MacLise
March 4, 1938, Bridgeport, Connecticut – June 21, 1979, Kathmandu, Nepal)
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:34pm PB:

Pardon my total ignorance but is this the same Angus Maclise who was an original member of the Velvet Underground?
Mon. 2/6/12 10:35pm Wendy del Formaggio:

hello Dan! Tonight's show is really fantastic.
Avatar Mon. 2/6/12 10:37pm Dan B:

@Wendy, thanks! @PB, yes it is
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:39pm Bill:

@PB aren't you a font of knowledge; good call
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:39pm jason:

how are you listening to this, reading, sleeping, eating, smoking??? Personally, i am studying biology.
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:39pm Bill:

@jason I am grading biology.
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:41pm G:

Is biology passing?
Avatar Mon. 2/6/12 10:41pm Dan B:

@Bill/Jason, I am undergoing biological processes involving deep vitamin D deficiencies.
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:42pm G:

@Dan: 4000 or 6000 units a day. The pills are small.
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:43pm jason:

true i love parenchyma collenchyma and sclerenchyma cells
they are very cool because they are what make up plants
and i love plants
true dan b, im just in freshman bio, lol
i love the bronx!
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:43pm Bill:

@Dan B. What you've got there is a pharmaceutical issue. Unless you can mention a specific organ, microbe or molecule or ecosystem I can't help.
Avatar Mon. 2/6/12 10:43pm Dan B:

@G, my dr. sez 5000 units/day for 3 mos.
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:44pm PB:

@Bill, thanks. Clearly, I spend far too many of my waking hours reading about and listening to music. It's like a narcotic, I can't control myself. DB, echo @Wendy's comment, the show is, as usual. extremely interesting.
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:44pm jason:

i also love this girl named serena, i wud do anything to have animalistic sex with her
Avatar Mon. 2/6/12 10:45pm Dan B:

@Jason, it's true about the Bronx. Do you know the Musa Slaughterhouse? Their slogan is "All Killed Live." Love that place.
Mon. 2/6/12 10:46pm Wendy del Formaggio:

PB, I always like Dan's show, but tonight is particularly wonderful.
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:47pm Bill:

@PB I think you mentioned Alex Chilton earlier. I got to see him perform withYo La Tengo a few years ago at a Channukah show.
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:47pm G:

sounds good to me, dan. the easiest to get large-sized non-scrip D pills are 2000, so i said 4000 or 6000. if doc says 5000 and he can get you there without you having to cut oil-filled pills, go for it.

2000-unit pills are not expensive OTC, if by chance he is directing you toward an expensive presciption form. your call!
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:49pm PB:

@ Bill, Yo La Tengo and Alex Chilton. That sounds incredibly cool.
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:51pm rsh:

A low IU vitamin D before bed is good for winter month/not enough sun days.
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:51pm Destroit:

This has been a great show, but Trophies is ramping it up nicely....my plans of going to sleep early are going away quickly.
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:51pm Bill:

They played Femme Fatale by VU. I have to admit that at the time I didn't know who he was. Yo La Tengo then played Heroine...my memory is a little faded here but he must have stayed on for that.
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:51pm jason:

musa slaughterhouse, daym just looked it up looks crazy, but i live in the north bronx and i get my goat meat from arther ave..
but im deff gonna check that spot out, i love muslims and latins and mushrooms
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:52pm Sean:

This Trophies track is blowing me away, amazing set so far (the whole show has been amazing, as usual)
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:53pm PB:

I'm pretty sure Big Star covered Femme Fatale (can't remember which album, off hand).
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:54pm rsh:

Too much D can make your joints hurt. I don't recall the biochem specifics at the moment.
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:55pm Bill:

I agree that you wouldn't want to put vitamin D in your joints.
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:58pm rsh:

'but it's good for you'
yeah, no - I was thinking things like knees..
  Mon. 2/6/12 10:59pm jason:

@dan b
if you dont got anything to play, which is highly unlikely, but whatever... mabey u shud play Johnny Albino, if not today, listen to it in space
?
  Mon. 2/6/12 11:02pm G:

If Dan's been tested as D starved, 5000 daily is not high. I've seen people prescribed higher. I knew someone last year who initially tested for D at 8 or 9 (very, very low) and was given a 50,000 injection weekly for eight weeks (which is close 7000 a day). That took her up to 25 or so, after which she was stepped back to one non-prescription 2000 pill a day.

I know many people who take 2000 or 4000 a day if they spend little time in the sun, with no reports of joint pain. (Direct sun on exposed skin creates lots of D within minutes, which is why we modern indoor people are often low on D.) I wouldn't recommend going north of 4000 a day without a test that showed a really low substrate D level.
Mon. 2/6/12 11:04pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Okay, I've held out as long as I can, I have to go to sleep now. Thanks for the great tunes, Dan!

Hi and bye, Destroit!

  Mon. 2/6/12 11:09pm rsh:

Who wants say no to the great sun-filled day because damn, I already got my dose of D in synthetic pill form and if I double that, I tread into toxic territory.

Vitamin C, unlike D, is simply excreted in urea when it peaks over the body's limits.
  Mon. 2/6/12 11:12pm Mechanism:

This has been a cool show! Glad I tuned in
  Mon. 2/6/12 11:14pm PB:

Tomorrow Never Knows.
  Mon. 2/6/12 11:15pm Sandy:

Professor Dum-dum is as annoying as a generic "morning zoo" deejay. It hurts my throat to hear his forced accent. What's he doing on the air during adult hours? Surely for the under-10 set. Although I like some of the music he plays, I have to turn him off.
  Mon. 2/6/12 11:19pm jason:

i cant smoke wweed because it hurts my head because i thought it healed too much, i cant improve my thoughts because i cant read, because my concentration is a muddle, i cant sleep because i slept, i cant listen to music because i have this computer, i cant eat because there is no more projutoo in my fridge, i cant masterbate because my dick hurts, i cant write anything because i havent read anything, i cant study because my interest only lasts for ten mins, at least i have wfmu..
  Mon. 2/6/12 11:21pm A:

From experience, listening to the Professor on archives during the morning commute will put a smile on your face. Try it!
  Mon. 2/6/12 11:21pm jason:

im not wierd or smart or humble or proud, im just phat with my own style thats like a bulll dozer thats driven by a dumbass
  Mon. 2/6/12 11:22pm Sandy:

A: I guess you can skip the parts where Dum-Dum "talks" then...
  Mon. 2/6/12 11:22pm slugluv1313:

reading up on Angus and Hetty Maclise -- WOW (yup, i, too, was intrigued by those very-familiar-sounding names) -- and kicking myself for missing out on the Boo-Hooray exhibit/installation!!!

i love fuck
  Mon. 2/6/12 11:26pm A:

You can dl the mp3s if you're all hacker-like about it (save file, go to the link in the file). Dum Dum even in the subway!
Mon. 2/6/12 11:26pm Jersey Shore Bees:

Hive, Tan, Honey
  Mon. 2/6/12 11:27pm rada:

i would deem bee sex an infinite times more appealing than a single moment of Jersey Shore.
  Mon. 2/6/12 11:29pm G:

The ratings have way dropped for Jersey Shore. Can you say "jumped the shark"? I knew you could.
Avatar Mon. 2/6/12 11:29pm Dan B:

I just want to thank you all for making this a very interesting board for me to read tonight...sorry I haven't been saying much but I'm just getting absorbed in other things here. But yes, the Jersey Shore is swarming with diggers, I agree!
  Mon. 2/6/12 11:30pm jason:

does anyone here ever feel like exploding?
  Mon. 2/6/12 11:30pm Sandy:

I met Hedy in London in the late '90s... The music part of the Boo-Hooray exhibit wasn't organized very well. The announcements that were supposed to go up on the web about scheduled programmed listenings were never posted. I was there one afternoon but nobody could tell me what I was listening to exactly (date, personnel, etc.).... In the visual show, I was struck by a couple statements by Angus concerning death (of all things). I scribbled them on something, have them somewhere... Rather optimistic, looking forward...
  Mon. 2/6/12 11:34pm jason:

if not then im guna explode alll by myseolf and all my guts willl land on u.
  Mon. 2/6/12 11:35pm jason:

  Mon. 2/6/12 11:43pm T-Zero:

Been enjoying the show, Dan. Nice to know I wasn't alone in not knowing of Dinosaur L until WFMU exposure... gives me hope.

Hope all the medical issues get worked out.

Have a great week!
  Mon. 2/6/12 11:44pm Sean:

Isnt Larkin Grimm going to be on 7 Second Delay this week?
  Mon. 2/6/12 11:53pm steve:

great show... i actually haven't sat down with wfmu for a whole evening in months... you've reminded me so well of everything good i've been missing.
Avatar Mon. 2/6/12 11:55pm Dan B:

Yes, it's true Sean, she will be on SSD on this Wednesday 2/8/2012 - live at the Upright Citizen's Brigade Theater for anyone who wants to see the show in person -- check out sevenseconddelay.blogspot.com
