All Wolfman, all the time! Aroooooooooo!!

Man, haven't heard Stevie do this song in a while. Dirtbombs version has been my main go to these days.

Man, I love this track!

Much as I like Burton Cummings I have to say that Todd wins that battle, hands down.
  9:12pm

Bark-Ming, Todd wins that one in a walk. EFD, am I suffering from a faulty memory or did the album mix of that Todd track not have the Wolfman on it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13pm

Parq, you are correct, although I can't speak to your memory as a whole.

Parq, I can assure you my older sister's 8 track didn't have it.

The Guess Who record was admittedly grim.

@Caryn - don't be silly, friend :-) Hello to all, hope everyone had a good week.

Amazing show so far! Too Much Joy just made my evening.

Aww! Hm, not sure if "Kicked In The Teeth" by AC/DC would be quite right... Ask him what time is the best time to go to the dentist, that'll cheer him up!

Unfinished Sweet by Alice Cooper also not comforting
  9:27pm
Thierry:

Bonsoir Evan. Pretty courageous of you to cover (mainly) both the seventies AND today's twenty-teens. Because both decades are not identified with single (or few) genres.
  9:27pm
Caryn:

"All I want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth" wouldn't work either. Except to show the kid that there are worse things in this world than going to the dentist.
  9:29pm
Holly in NC:

@li'l funk -
Clearly I am not efd, but if I were 10 and cool I'd probably like devendra's 'lend me your teeth' for the surrealism, or lillian leach's 'i'm gonna pick your teeth with an ice pick' for the violence.
Note I am an aunt, not a parent ;-)
  9:30pm
Caryn:

It's funny how the singing style alone tells you that The Act were an early 80s' British band... that is such a distinct sound. The Norwegian band by the same name were pretty good too. At exactly the same time. Funny that there was no name dispute that I'm aware of.

@Li'l Funk if the 10 year old in question is listening (on a school night? Not likely), tell him his favorite song is about to come on.

Speaking of overnight DJ's as EFD just did, I just discovered something I did not know about WFMU. That is that my teenaged daughter's beloved Jeff Mangum did a total of 9 overnight shows on WFMU back in 2002. They are listed in the archives as Jefferson and are pretty wild. http://wfmu.org/playlists/MU

  10:46pm

Interesting PB. Mostly good stuff from Crystal Stilts, only heard 3-4 songs. Weekend, the two songs I heard, were sonic awesome music. Cloud Nothings, some good some average but great potential. Thanks for the label education PB.
  10:47pm
David B:

Great movie! I saw it at Lincoln Center two summers back as part of the Clint Eastwood retrospective. The screening I attended included Fistful of Dollars, Dirty Harry, and a skype chat with the man himself. During the chat, Eastwood talked about a prank he pulled on set. The bartender was played by a director he had worked with numerous times, and as revenge for having to do so many takes for him, he had the director perform the same take 20 times before Eastwood told the camera operators to put film in the camera!
  10:47pm
Caryn:

Yeah, if your new boyfriend or girlfriend calls "Play Misty for Me" a romantic movie, that's a clear sign that it's time to run.
  10:48pm
SteveL:

Behold, the power of efd. He who draws music from the silence.
  10:49pm

it's a small subgenre called "homicidal psychotic date movie"
  10:50pm

Thanks EFD :) I know you wouldn't do that - you're too nice about such things :) Besides I'm a reformed crazy caller. Now I'm a crazy commenter :o)

Anyhow, you are killing it tonight, EFD. It is making my extremely itchy feet a little more bearable.
  10:50pm

@ wondering: yes, spot on.

Earlier today I recalled how I once took a first date to see The Shining. Not much to chat about when it was over. There was no second date.

re: so many things
  10:52pm
The Wondering:

All work and no play...
  10:52pm
Caryn:

I still think "The Shining" provides plenty of conversation material. As long as you don't start the chat with "Now that's how a marriage should be!"
  10:54pm
PB:

Never read a Stephen King book but the film adaptations of some of them have been great (the Shining and Shawshank come immediately to mind).
  10:54pm
The Wondering:

And the guy should not call the date up after parking back at his house to tell her: "Honey! Im HOME."
  10:55pm
Destroit:

Ha, look at efd snapping back to an "oh goodness" pop reality, love this shyt too.
  10:55pm
Caryn:

Also, don't spend the rest of the date talking to her with your finger in a weird voice. And if you and your date happen to be called Jack & Wendy, you're screwed.
  10:55pm
Barkevious Shabazz:

And then, invariably, the conversation goes from marriage to itchy feet. Then homicide.
  10:55pm
PB:

efd is the real "king of pop".
  10:56pm
SteveL:

Honestly, I'd forgotten until now. Her name WAS Wendy. Could help explain things.
  10:57pm
T-Zero:

@PB: Pet Sematary was great as a book, but really sucks as a movie.
  10:58pm
Caryn:

I find it interesting how the King books reference one another. He tends to use the same regions in his books. So for instance, Paul Sheldon drives past the Overlook Hotel in "Misery" before getting into his car crash.
  11:00pm
Holly in NC:

I remember when my EX-husband & I had my antique brokerin' quilt-makin' tee-totallin' non-swearin' salt of the earth in-laws over for a movie ... D. picked Fargo, which he had seen (I had not).

Prostitutes & wood chipper AWKWARD.

D. explained later that he thought his mom would appreciate 'a strong female lead'

Danne D:

I must be a rare person - I have read exactly one Stephen King book: "The Dead Zone"
  11:01pm
PB:

Continuing on the movie theme, Fargo is far and away my favorite Coen brothers movie. It's brilliant.
  11:04pm
T-Zero:

@Danne D: Not so rare. Pet Symatary's the only one I've read ;)
  11:05pm
Caryn:

"Stand By Me" is a great Stephen King movie. As is "The Dead Zone".
@Holly: Talk about awkward movie viewing experiences, our high school religion teacher told us at the start of one lesson: "We're gonna watch a movie to illustrate today's theme. I haven't seen it, but I understand it's about the seven deadly sins." It was "Se7en". I think we all spent most of the movie staring at the teacher's face as it slowly dawned on him that this was maybe not the best movie choice. (Though it was still less awkward than the time in university when the lecturer fastforwarded his video a little too much, past the stuff we were supposed to watch, to the porn he had taped after it.)
  11:05pm
SteveL:

The Stand is not a good book to read during the cold and flu season.
  11:05pm
Holly in NC:

@PB - I do love Fargo, but I still love Blood Simple the most, I think.

And I grew up on Stephen King, everything through It.

And Kathy Bates in Misery strongest female lead ever ? ;-)
  11:06pm
Holly in NC:

@Caryn -
BOTH your stories are priceless. Especially re Se7en. Wow.
  11:07pm
Caryn:

I can't name a favourite Coen Bros. movie. I like too many of them too much.
  11:09pm
Danne D:

@T-Zero okay it might be two Stephen King books I've read
  11:09pm
Danne D:

Kathy Bates in Misery *shudder*
  11:09pm

Wow, nice story Caryn. Weird education stories, I'm not sure if I'd wish I had more or less.
  11:09pm
John L.:

Took a girlfriend to see Dead Ringers; I think it bummed her out for the rest of our relationship. I love alot of Coen Brothers films, but Miller's Crossing is my favorite.
  11:09pm
Caryn:

@Holly: really, both incidents illustrate the personality of the teachers. Our religion teacher was a naive dear, very meek and sweet. Our university lecturer came off extremely skeevy, with missing teeth, a bad combover and a distinct odour of old minced meat about him.
  11:12pm
T-Zero:

Sounds like prime characters for Edward Albee...
  11:13pm
Holly in NC:

@Danne -

Hi! That same ex-husband wouldn't watch any other Kathy Bates movie for YEARS after Misery, she really got to him.

As did Nurse Ratched - I don't even know that actresses name *shudder*
  11:13pm
Destroit:

Caryn= wonderful - my interpretation. Best guess is that caryn wins with that equation!
  11:13pm
Caryn:

I've had a long line of weird teachers, from the primary school PE teachers (one was a perv with a brown leather swimsuit who would smell the students, one was an anorexic) to the junior high substitute who would throw stuff at the students, to the guy who would just tell us stories about the time he was struck by lightning in Rome, to the high school teacher who tended to break at least 2 pointers a week and throw desks around.
  11:14pm
Holly in NC:

@John L - Dead Ringers, that's another GREAT (creepy) movie!
  11:15pm
PB:

Nurse Ratched was an unforgetable characer. Is her name Louise Fletcher?
  11:15pm
Caryn:

@Holly: Louise Fletcher. Her eyes always freak me out. Hell, even the "Spaced" parody of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" kinda creeps me out.
@Destroit: aww...

hurrah's 2nd single "hip hip" is a classic.

@Caryn, a brown leather swimsuit? Now that's bizarre and incredibly creepy.

Holly in NC:

@mordred -

no way. way?
  11:29pm
john:

Agree again about Hurrah; the early Kitchenware singles were fantastic; the first album, which I remember being really excited about, was a little dull and I lost sight of them after that. Still play the 45s, though.

  11:30pm
Holly in NC:

efd, this is good & creepy, quite fitting.
  11:32pm
Caryn:

Man, the biggest writer I ever partied with is Terry Pratchett. Nowhere near Kesey in the interesting stakes!

@Caryn -
Was he at least funny? That same ex-husband was somewhat into him in his younger D&D, cosmic wimpout, Monty Python, Douglas Adams days.

Oh hey, Vangelis!
  11:37pm
mordred:

No serial i sawr him in SF and was on his bus thats how i knew it were him

It's a good thing Noah's not coming on at midnight, he would NOT be happy that I haven't finished my dinner (salad) yet.
  11:38pm
John L.:

May be the best thing Vangelis ever did; love this song.
  11:38pm
Danne D:

you'd figure one of the horses would be grey or maybe there'd be a roan thrown in there
  11:38pm
PiLA:

  11:38pm
Holly in NC:

No offense to the awesome Mary, of course! Mary, if you're here, I love your show.

This reminds me of when I used to listen to WNEW, when I was a kid. I think Alison Steel used to play it, probably followed by Lothar and the Hand People.
  11:42pm
Destroit:

Holy shit, "cosmic wimpout" might be the phrase of the year. Might as well drop charlatans 'opportunity' at this point.
  11:42pm
Danne D:

@Holly Noah is putting up new shows via soundcloud fyi:

Don't tell me you never played Cosmic Wimpout! I still have tons of die, and a t-shirt, and, er, well .... (they're all packed in the attic, I swear)
  11:45pm
Holly in NC:

Tyler, you sure screwed up the anthem the other night. Barkevious's dogs must have been in agony!
  11:46pm
Jon Von Albertson:

Yer gonna love the new me.
  11:47pm
Holly in NC:

@Danne -
I do indeed follow him there (soundcloud)
  11:47pm
Danne D:

@Holly :) good
  11:48pm
Caryn:

@Holly: I only meant not as interesting in terms of cultural significance or choice of substances (double vodka on the rocks is not quite the same as mushrooms and hallucinogens). A delightful and funny man all around, and very sweet. Also with him was Robert Rankin, who is utterly hilarious. I rather suspect Neil Gaiman is utterly exasperated if he ever hangs out with both for more than half an hour.
  11:48pm
PB:

Steven Tyler makes my skin crawl, a poor man's Mick Jagger in a destitute man's Rolling Stones. 60 something years old carrying on like an idiot 17 year old.
  11:49pm
G:

Fox made him sing the national anthem on a Fox football game as an Idol promo because Idol's ratings were way down last week (first week of its new season).

You can make him do personal appearances, but you can't make him sing well if he didn't want to be there in the first place.

  11:56pm
PB:

@Holly, I'm not defending Jagger (or the Stones) they have been irrelevant since Exile on Main Street, but they did have an amazing 10 year run from 63 to 72.
  11:58pm
Danne D:

@Holly you come up to NJ I'll treat ya. I hear it's good.
