Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

  Tue. 1/24/12 3:04pm BSI:

oh god yes........
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:05pm Cecile:

hells yeah.

Do you have that crazy John Gavanti record around? That always makes me smile.
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:06pm Ike:

Dig!
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:08pm BSI:

It has been a very long day. But all is better now.
Cue sigh of contentment.
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:12pm Cecile:

that's wondeful, BSI. So all is copasetic? very nice.
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:13pm Cecile:

I've always wondered - what is the Nurse with Wound record to start with?
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:16pm BSI:

The great NWW gateway drug for many folks was The Sylvie & Babs Hi-Fi Companion. It's more the humorous collage stuff, a timeless classic. ... For latter-day NWW, this one here is wonderful.
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:17pm Cecile:

caveat - it has to either be in print or accessible somehow.
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:17pm hubba:

I started with a 2 cd set of NWW collaborations. From there I just started going through the catalogue as one release may be completely different than another. Not the biggest NWW fan, but man, NWW's "lists" have got me occupied for a long time.
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:17pm Cecile:

This is great, and it HAS GALAGA NOISES ON IT!!!!!
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:17pm Cheri Pi:

I needed some Nurse w/ Wound...
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:18pm Cecile:

I love Galaga. I have seriously considered buying an old arcade game!
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:18pm Cecile:

GALALALALALALALALALGAGAGAGA!
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:19pm osvi:

I went to my local, ugh, Rasputin Records where the "cool" kids with the million tattoos argued with me about there being no such thing as a band called Nurse With Wound! They never even checked their little computer! HA!
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:19pm earwax:

Lady GALALALALALALALALALGAGAGAGA?
Tue. 1/24/12 3:20pm Matt from Springfield:

Wow--what an opening track! Can't believe it's the same one that started the show! I've been listening from the beginning, that was in-fucking-credible!!
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:20pm Mike East:

yes, Galaga was my favorite as a kid. That and OutRun.
Tue. 1/24/12 3:20pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

nice opening! too busy to comment!!
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:20pm pierre:

Bonsoir Brian T, Bonsoir Wfmu-ers !
Paris is checking.
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:21pm Cecile:

osvi, you are kidding me. WOW.
Tue. 1/24/12 3:22pm Matt from Springfield:

Bonsoir pierre!
Bonjour/soir everybody!
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:22pm Cheri Pi:

Cecile, my faves of NWW are Chance Meeting on a Dissecting Table...& Salt Marie Celeste. Decades apart but...
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:22pm Cecile:

Then again, I sold a duplicate Nuggets box to a mall CD store, and had to talk them into buying it. "I never heard of any of these bands and I know more about music than any of my friends." I was, all, sure you do. Hand me my money.
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:22pm Ike:

Wow, I totally forgot about OutRun until now. As for Galaga, why buy an old console when you can just play on an emulator?
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:23pm osvi:

Cecile, they actually humored me and looked up SUNN O))) but refused to add the funky circle thing at the end. The fools!
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:24pm Mike East:

It was very confusing to me when I started driving when the car had more gears than hi and lo
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:24pm Cecile:

Because you can get the full body language into it. I got a real workout, I was so into it!
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:24pm Marcus:

Solo John Howe! Never heard this, it's, um, swell.
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:25pm Cecile:

thanks, that's cool that they have great albums years apart - a good sign.
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:25pm BSI:

Ike: good point. I ALMOST FOR A MINUTE thought having an iPad would be a good idea once I saw the Tempest console.

  Tue. 1/24/12 3:28pm Cecile:

This song is never good by anyone. It's such a drag.

It's too rough to feed ya!
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:28pm The Concordia:

Life's a bitch.
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:30pm Woo:

Is this song as long as Mandrake Root?
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:30pm Cheri Pi:

this song WROTEF depresses the living hell out of me.

Calling Dr. Dokaka! Need an emergency cover, STAT!
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:31pm Withheld:

As far as Edmund Fitzgerald, let's bear in mind that it's about remembrance, not whether or not it pleases us in some toe-tapping way.
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:31pm glenn:

the rheostatics kill it, i think.
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:32pm BSI:

actually, a Dokaka Edmund Fitz would effing rule. I'd bet on it.

Search results: December 7, 2005-- Steven Stain, M.D., has joined the staff of Albany Medical Center as chair of the department of surgery
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:34pm Cecile:

ah, Withheld, it's a rememberance. But I think people dont' remember the Fitz, but rather how much the song irritates them. :D
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:35pm glenn:

if the wfmu record library is looking for stuff, i read in the globe and mail today that the c.b.c is getting rid of many many many records
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:35pm Cheri Pi:

Joy Divison-not depressing at all!!!

Tue. 1/24/12 3:36pm Mark in VT:

was that from the Barcade?
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:36pm Cheri Pi:

If the Edmund Fitzgerald were forced to hear that song it would wreck itself all over again.

thanks glenn
i doubt i will profit from this so i will add it my list of reasons to hate the cbc
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:40pm Cecile:

You gotta have a backup.
I still swear by the record.

That JD/MM tee is like a ThinkGeek April Fool's joke.

cbc radio has broken my heart over the past 3 years or so

but on the bright side i am still in love with mark e smith
  Tue. 1/24/12 3:50pm glenn:

besides, i'm willing to bet clay plays glass tiger and gowan more than the c.b.c. ever doers.

Hey, Disney, forget the star pulse, Joe Davis of MIT "recorded the vaginal contractions of ballerinas with the Boston Ballet and other women, then translated this impetus of human conception into text, music, phonetic speech and ultimately into radio signals, which were beamed from MIT's Millstone radar to Epsilon Eridani, Tau Ceti, and two other nearby star systems."

Cecile, i think one of the members was in Slovenly
  Tue. 1/24/12 4:51pm Cecile:

yes, I've seen Tom Watson a few times with the Missingmen.
  Tue. 1/24/12 4:53pm hubba:

There was this cd release about 10 years ago called country and watson with jim o'rourke and mayo thomsposn doing some twiddling... it had, at the time, kind of a miighty flashlight vibe... but discogs does not list that album
  Tue. 1/24/12 4:56pm Cecile:

I looked in Amazon and it said Tom Watson did it. Also, it had absolutely terrible user reviews. So it's probably the same Tom Watson. :D
  Tue. 1/24/12 4:57pm O'Shea:

Watson is a wonderful golfer. I'd equate him with Hale Irwin in some ways. Very different than today's field of young club-wielders.
