I never miscue a record. I am punctual, well-prepared, and dislike clutter. Outgoing and helpful, I'm always appropriately dressed. I do not behave erratically and have excellent penmanship. My CD's never skip, and I am in good health. I like all the notes, in any order.

Not exactly Aphex Twin, but Etta James' death was just announced...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm bryce:

  12:10pm Marmalade Kitty:

RIP Etta
  12:10pm Cecile:

  12:11pm Cecile:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm bryce:

  12:14pm bruceleh:

Hi Bryce,
Are you going to be at Roulette Monday night for the Messiaen?
  12:15pm Cecile:

Messiaen Roulette. Good name for a band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm bryce:

ugh, i wish!! they changed my work hours to 2–10pm......
  12:17pm still b/p:

Doug played At Last and today it had extra... everything.
Just read that in the 70s, when Etta was in rehab, Keith Richards wrote her and said she could tour with the Stones if she stayed clean. Kind of like Evel Knievel saying "you can work with me if you're a safe, courteous driver."
  12:19pm tim from champaign:

Dlack Bryce?
  12:22pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Also dead is the SOPA bill, I hear.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm bryce:

for NOW......
  12:27pm Nathan:

It'll pop up in the back seat wielding the knife of internet censorship before you know it...
  12:27pm channeling Keith R.:

Some people can handle self-abuse, some can't. She was in rehab. Weakling! :-)
  12:29pm hubba:

The always wonderful, bright faced, and saccharine sweet Bryce... what is going on today?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm bryce:

He's in his happy place.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm bryce:

  12:31pm hubba:

better late than never... although, there is something to be said for open sores
  12:32pm B z:

Etta James: Out in the Street . 1000% SOUL!
  12:32pm BSI:

everyone needs a "change agent" now and then.
  12:33pm BSI:

I'm in my mid-forties already. It's getting a bit dumpy down there.
  12:35pm Dr. to top DJs:

Bryce's open sores are open source and shareable.
  12:36pm Zman:

Diggin these horns
  12:38pm Horns:

I'm diggin you!

  12:47pm Cheri Pi:

@BS-we want the same things.
  12:47pm Cheri Pi:

@BSI (snorksnork)
  12:48pm Clock:

I'll help y'all out. When I get around to it.
  12:48pm BSI:

...always just one I away from total BS...
  12:50pm Noise Receptacle:

Maddox has the correct take on SOPA - "There have been many bills attempted (and some passed) like SOPA before it. There's the DMCA act of 1998, PRO-IP Act of 2008, the 2011 Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement, and now the PROTECT IP Act of 2012. Think this victory means anything? A new bill gets introduced every year or two like clockwork. Check back in a few years, and there'll be another SOPA or Protect IP Act being squeezed down the lower intestinal tracts of congress."
  12:50pm Self-Esteem Coach:

@BSI -- defining your handle as "BS + I" is not healthy math!
  12:55pm Bridie O'Farrell:

Just tuned in! I hope this is a pro-Irish tune, otherwise...You know what will happen.
  12:55pm D in Miami:

Damned incontinent congress!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm bryce:

  12:59pm G:

Popular cultural stuff is one of the few areas where the US remains dominant with mass audiences worldwide for now. Huge companies that make money from that activity (movies, tv, music, books, etc.) would prefer to game the governmental system to protect and perpetuate their dominance, rather than making the effort required to compete and adapt.

The railroads did the same thing when they were peaking and declining in the 20th century, and instead of adapting or competing with other transpotation modes, they became dysfunctional wards of the government. Nice work, guys.

Culture-selling companies need to work harder at figuring out how to make a smoother, easier delivery mode (the internet) work for them, rather than bribing the government to protect them from having to do so. They just can't order the tide not to come in. If they ruin the open internet here, other countries will come in to fill that gap, and they (and we) will be worse off than before.
  12:59pm Bridie:

does congress need their diaper changed? does brycie? Darn it all. I'll get to work on it right away, but I can make one call to Dublin, you understand!
  1:00pm liquid:

rest in peae,Etta...one the greatest soul singers to walk the planet.Period.
  1:03pm D in Miami:

I don't think Bryce and most of his listeners are affected greatly by that popular culture stuff, but we do suffer the consequences of it in the trickle-down. No pun on congresses incontinence there. Or was it?
  1:06pm Noise Receptacle:

Poster child for "Dysfunctional ward of the government" - The airline industry.
  1:06pm BSI:

Lifetones was a nifty surprise. Gonna have to dig up some old Power Steppers & suchlike. Haven't indulged in that vibe in ages.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm bryce:

somehow i'd never heard it till just the other day!
  1:11pm G:

@D in M: That's right, non-mass things like FMU are affected by having to follow and be affected by the same national laws and rules that might be driven by out-of-control mass-culture companies seeking to avoid adapting successfully to the internet.

It's been obvious since the mid 90s that information/entertainment delivery was going to switch to the internet. And even that long-term shift is just the most recent step in the vast development of improved transportation and communication that has been ongoing since the early 1800s. It shouldn't be any kind of news to these big blundering mass-culture behemoths.

If big companies haven't figured out how to make the internet work for them by now without demanding it just be ruined, they should be firing their big-salary "strategists" and finding better ones.
  1:11pm andymorphic:

adrian sherwood!!!
  1:14pm G:

@Noise: The more transportation and communication improve, the more skeletons there will be of companies that outlasted their time or didn't adapt well. "skeleton" = either bankruptcy ( = people don't want their service any mopre) or political protection ( = bribing politicians with the aim of avoiding option 1)
  1:14pm northguineahills:

Audio Sports would fit in nicely about now.
  1:17pm Sue:

Awesome tunes!!!!!
  1:20pm BSI:

Okay that does it. Scientist listening party to commence at 5:01pm.
  1:22pm Mark Williams:

it's not this group's normal bailiwick, but given the last 15 mins of tunes, a word of acknowledgement for Jamaican singer/producer Winston Riley, who passed away.

  2:43pm Hugo:

Any Hetty Koes Endang?
  2:45pm dc pat:

that Idjah Hadidjah is easily the best thing I've heard all week..
  2:45pm dc pat:

actually maybe it was "?" that was sounding so good...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm bryce:

hugo, not sure! don't know her (her?).
  2:53pm Marshall Stacks:

Aces, Bryce.
  2:56pm Carmichael:

Endang has done much in the 1980s to revive the historic form kroncong, which is a blending of Indonesian and Portugese styles. Kroncong is performed by a diverse ensemble of instruments and is fronted by female singer who performs in a lazy, saccharine style.
  2:57pm Carmichael:

cut and paste. No brainwork done.
  2:58pm Hugo:

bryce, just wondering. I have two cassettes from Indonesia and one cd from Malaysia (where she's moved).
  3:00pm Hugo:

kroncong is popular with older people, dangdut with younger. Again, stuff picked up on cassettes in jakarta. nice set.
