Listener comments!

  9:05pm
Van in Dallas:

Looking forward to this. Hi Evan. I'll go back into my corner now.
  9:07pm
efd:

Hi Van! Feel free to pop out again at any time. :) Thanks for listening.
  9:08pm
Stevel:

Van! Safe from the raptors, eh?
  9:10pm
Van in Dallas:

lol, yes, the raptors took a left after I took a right. All is well :) (famous last words ha ha)
  9:10pm
AZ:

It is a wondrous miracle of science that I can be listening to this show live at the exact same moment that I am pedaling on an elliptical trainer at the gym. Happy New Year, efd!
  9:10pm
Richard from Venezuela:

Greetings Evan and all the listeners.
  9:12pm
efd:

AZ, great to hear from you! Happy New Year to you and LJP! You may want to settle in for a long ride. :)

Hi Richard and Steve, thanks for listening tonight!
  9:12pm
Van in Dallas:

It's also an amazing miracle of science that I can be sitting on my ass at home drinking beer listening to this show!

I should think about doing the AZ gym thingy sometime....
  9:13pm
G:

I wonder if there'll be any 45s played tonight with lyrics that recount fantasy dreams... Guess we'll have to stcik around and see...
  9:14pm
efd:

G, I'll never tell.
  9:15pm
G:

You are the very soul of discretion, Mr. EFD.
  9:15pm
Van in Dallas:

Oh no. I forgot. I TOTALLY FORGOT! RAPTORS LOVE BEER! (emergency switch to whiskey in progress)
  9:17pm
Stevel:

A proper supply of whiskey is critical when considering defense of the homeland against reptilian invaders.
  9:17pm
Holly in NC:

Oh yes, the Normal I'd quite forgotten.

This is going to be a FUN show! :-)
  9:18pm
Van in Dallas:

Hey Evan, you obviously saved the BESTEST EVER show for the last one of 2011! Let it all now! :)
  9:18pm
Harold Camping:

I think we found out that the Raptor isn't coming this year. Sorry.
  9:19pm
Van in Dallas:

@Harold - ha ha x 2 :)
  9:20pm
Holly in NC:

Mayanbe Raptor in 2012!
  9:21pm
AZ:

I feel certain that my cardiovascular system is up to the task.
  9:24pm
Raptor:

@Holly - not Mayanbe but Gonnabe ;) (according to them)
  9:26pm
G:

Raptors get an unfair rap. As long as you keep them well fed, they are much nicer to look at than naked mole rats. See how amiable that last one was?
  9:28pm
Destroit:

Hello efd. Looking forward to the show.
  9:29pm
Van in Dallas:

Amiableness is a raptor trick. Beware.
  9:30pm
Dorothy:

I think I like your year end shows most of all Evan.
  9:30pm
Destroit:

Actually, hello everybody. (don't wanna be rude!)
  9:31pm
Van in Dallas:

Although yes, I would rather gaze at the random raptor, or more precisely, raptorette, than say, the random Wall Mart rat...er....mal rat...er...mole rat...any of them actually.
  9:32pm
efd:

Hi Destroit, thanks for listening! Dorothy, thanks! I appreciate that!
  9:33pm
G:

"13 Raptorettes (And Me The Only Prey Around)"
  9:33pm
Stevel:

The naked Wal Mart rat is a disturbing specimen to view.
  9:33pm
Randy in NC:

@G @9:13 you mean something greater than twelve maybe?
  9:34pm
G:

coullllddddddd bbbbbeeeeee
  9:34pm
Joe D.:

wow I think I just heard Evan have a heart attack from 30 miles away.
  9:35pm
Van in Dallas:

@G - "And me the only prey around" - I had to lol at that. Well done.
  9:36pm
Julie:

You can count reissues?
  9:36pm
G:

I would never have thunk of it without your "raptorettes", Van.
  9:36pm
Julie:

I keep expecting this voice to burst into a chorus of Big Balls
  9:37pm
efd:

Haha, Joe, you totally did! It's not like I have a backup copy of this CD sitting around.

Julie, you can count whatever you want! I play by my own rules!
  9:37pm
Holly in NC:

Y'know, I was just thinking that I couldn't think of a better reissue than Ramases...DOH!
  9:38pm
G:

2011 reissues are their own separate list of ten, if i am recalling past years correctly
  9:38pm
Van in Dallas:

@efd - that's almost like, freeform!
  9:39pm
Julie:

Evan Funk Davies can't play by your rules....man
  9:42pm
Julie:

It's hard to remember what comes out when much less when the reissue comes out.. you guys have computers for brains
  9:43pm
Van in Dallas:

Raptors, much like zombies, LOVE brains
  9:43pm
efd:

My method is admittedly inconsistent... I separate reissue LPs from new LPs, but reissue singles and new singles are all mixed together.

As you'll see presently.
  9:44pm
G:

One mnemonic method for the whole year would be a DJ looking back at all of his/her playlists for memory jogs. Laborious, but effective.
  9:45pm
Julie:

the only way I was able to really make a list was to go look at old playlists. In other words, I cheated. Oh speaking of lists, Rich H pretty much brought me to tears on his number one
  9:46pm
12539:

EFD:
Jeff & Jane Hudson at MASS Moca
Saturday, January 14, 2012, 8:00 pm
North Adams, Massachusetts.
  9:46pm
efd:

G, you don't know the half of it. All I'll say is "tab-separated export" and "spreadsheets."
  9:46pm
efd:

Julie, that is most definitely NOT cheating!

12539, thanks!
  9:47pm
G:

OMG, OCD city!!! But we all benefit, so thanks!
  9:47pm
Holly in NC:

Oh, a twist! The plot thickens...

BTW, hello everyone!

@efd - 10 bonus tracks? That I did not know. Now I need to go purchase (grumble).
  9:48pm
Julie:

But I don't usually record the reissue years, so maybe that's a reason TO do that. Hi Holly!
  9:48pm
G:

He excels at Excels.
  9:49pm
Julie:

Then again if I got into reissues..all the Kinks 2-cd reissues that came out this year alone
  9:53pm
Holly in NC:

Hi Julie -
Happy belated birthday & other holiday of your choice!
I found a christmas comp that has your name all over it - have you heard "excelsis - a dark noel"?
  9:54pm
Julie:

Thanks Holly! Happy Holiday to you! And yes, there are two lovely Excelsis comps put out by the Projekt label.
  9:54pm
Holly in NC:

Vagrants so much greater than Mountain!
  9:57pm
Kat in Chicago:

I love that Trouble In Mind has a theme song now! Liminanas were so good live both here and on your show.
  9:58pm
Destroit:

I love you record nerds. Seriously, I do. Sifting through crates, spreadsheets, libraries...so much work and passion to curate a radio show. Funny thing is that the passion has been there since The 80's & 90's, not sure if anyone back then would think they could shotgun their music findings all over the planet via the wonderful interboobs
  9:59pm
Van in Dallas:

I'm still new here. But I can say that one of the most wonderful things to happen to me this year was to find WFMU. The best part is that whenever I listen to WFMU over the net here in Dallas, all the raptors are kept at bay. That's really something. It's also why I support so strongly WFMU with donations! Any raptor-fearing soul should do the same! :)
  9:59pm
Destroit:

Oh, I forgot to say, awesome show!
  10:02pm
Randy in NC:

@Holly, Mountain was the first real band I ever saw. At a place called the Boston Tea Party on NYE 69/70.
  10:02pm
Julie:

The four little raptors in my apartment just gave me a dirty look
  10:04pm
Destroit:

@ Randy: that must have been, just wow.
@ Julie: cats? I hope...
  10:06pm
Julie:

Birds
  10:07pm
G:

OK, so they're not pterodactyls, get over it people :-)
  10:07pm
Holly in NC:

@Randy- Hi! Yes, that must have a been great show, I didn't mean to be rude.
Does Liberace count as a band? If so, he was my first. Show, that is. In the round!
  10:07pm
Randy in NC:

@Destroit - It was the same night that Jimi Hendrix Band of Gypsies played at the Filmore East. I still remember Felix Pappalardi giving phone reports of what was going on from that show.
  10:09pm
Destroit:

Even better. My dad turned a walk in closet into an aviary when I was 9. Love birds...and the byrds for that matter.
  10:09pm
Julie:

@Destroit that is so awesome!
  10:10pm
Julie:

this is great! Boomgates!
  10:13pm
Nordens fåglar:

good music for headphones at four o clock in the morning here in gothenburg, love your station:) /nf
  10:15pm
Julie:

Gothenburg sounds like a town I need to visit
  10:15pm
Holly in NC:

That (great) Bare Wire song always makes me think of T. Rex (band, not raptor) - anyone who likes TR might want to check out a guy cum band named Cavedweller - 1 song, 'Black, Black Magic', totally channels Mr. Marc.
Bandcamp. Free.
  10:16pm
efd:

Whoa, thanks for listening in the early morning hours, Nordens!

Randy, I remember seeing that weird bug-like mural on the side of the old Tea Party building when I was a kid driving in on the Mass Pike.
  10:16pm
efd:

(I was a passenger, I should add, not an underage driver)
  10:18pm
Nordens fåglar:

@julie: gothenburg has its moments, now wind and rain
  10:19pm
Julie:

good time to be inside listening to late night radio!
  10:19pm
Randy in NC:

@efd, now that you mention it I remember that too. I also remember that Mountain was really loud. And the smell of patcholi, cigarettes, reefer, and my step-brother's English Leather...
  10:19pm
G:

Volvo was founded in Gothenburg, that's in their ads over here occasionally
  10:20pm
Destroit:

@ nordens: we here in Detroit love your hockey players and your electronic music.
@ Julie: honestly, removing giant handmade cookie sheets of poo from the closet aviary was one of my fondest childhood memories.
  10:20pm
Danne D:

I wonder how many women will be in the top 1 :)
  10:21pm
G:

more than a dozen, whaddya say?
  10:21pm
Van in Dallas:

I think "Goth" probably was the invitation there.
  10:22pm
Holly in NC:

Re #2 - I was hoping! :-)

#1 I'm pretty sure I know...
  10:22pm
Julie:

@Destroit despite the use of "poo" and "cookie" in the same sentence that sounds great
  10:24pm
Nordens fåglar:

it is nice with late night/early morning radio, and a bit special considering that i never hear them in the same time, so to speak, maybe thats why it always works so well..?
  10:24pm
Stevel:

Betting everything on the baker's dozen.
  10:26pm
Destroit:

Lol, I like this efd crowd.
  10:27pm
Julie:

I LOVE THAT YOU SAY TWENTY-ELEVEN and not TWO THOUSAND ELEVEN.
  10:27pm
Stevel:

[incoherent, little-girl-like shrieking!!!]
  10:28pm
G:

if it kicks enough ass, a reissue 45 gets to be current again
  10:28pm
efd:

"two thousand eleven" is for losers.
  10:28pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

I still bust on my kids by calling it twenty-oh-ought-eleven.
  10:29pm
Van in Dallas:

I'm totally shocked.
  10:29pm
Holly in NC:

{crazed 60s style go go dancing!!!}
  10:29pm
Julie:

Oh wow this is such a surprise
  10:29pm
efd:

I know, it's like "wait, whuuuuuuut???"
  10:30pm
Stevel:

[buying organ on e-bay]
  10:31pm
listenermark:

Dig the renegades....Joe Strummers ghost is whispering in my earhole.
  10:33pm
Skirkie:

I'd've been outraged if that WASN'T number 1.
  10:33pm
Brian:

I love listening to Evan discuss how he determines and organizes his best-of lists... If only electoral commissions demonstrated such care, integrity, and transparency...
  10:33pm
Van in Dallas:

I'm playing along. And I totally liked that song. Still trying to figure out where I heard the db's earlier recently...was it Amanda's show? Doug's?
  10:33pm
Destroit:

This show has been great for my earpussy.
  10:35pm
Destroit:

@ Brian: perfect.
  10:40pm
efd:

@I know Amanda played them last week on her Xmas show (as did I).

Hi Brian, nice to have you here in real time! Greets to Skirkie and Danne D as well!

@Destroit - thanks, I think?
  10:41pm
Van in Dallas:

I never imagined there could be a radio station that was more "a little off" than my own listening habits over the past 30 years. Yet there you are, WFMU. *applause*
  10:42pm
Randy in NC:

@Van, Picture Sleeve is also on Bob Brainen's best of 2011 list.
  10:42pm
Holly in NC:

EFD's post-Renegades commentary reminded me of something -any fellow listeners remember which book in the 'Little House on the whatever' series had the leech scene? That's pretty much when I stopped reading said series.
And 'The African Queen' was *almost* the last movie I watched with my father...sometimes I'm very slow to forgive.
  10:42pm
Nordens fåglar:

funk`s gonna fly from the left of stax, just ponder the title and imagine the taste
  10:42pm
efd:

(that first @ in my previous comment was supposed to be "@Van")
  10:42pm
Danne D:

Official hi to everyone as now I'm on my computer as opposed to my phone :)

Hope Santa was good to everyone :)
  10:43pm
Danne D:

glad to see this show has it's proper amount of Skirkie Content :)
  10:43pm
Van in Dallas:

@efd - thanks! :)
  10:43pm
Joe D.:

EFD spreading the human happiness yet again this year! One wonders if this is the first ever best-of-year repeat song?
  10:44pm
G:

We should nominate Holly for Best Creepy Creature Commenter 2011 on this board
  10:44pm
Danne D:

Raptors have a tendency to have a problem holding onto their free agents.
  10:45pm
Danne D:

PS - Do Raptor references count as Canadian Content?
  10:45pm
Canadian Pterodactyl:

@Danne D: You gotta problem widdat bub?
  10:46pm
T-Zero:

@Holly: Little House in the Big Woods is still my favorite. I don't remember any leach story in the books...

@Julie: Evening. Sorry I missed your show live again. Can't get my sleeping worked out lately.

@EFD: Better late than never tuning in. Just woke up. An early Happy New year to ya...
  10:47pm
Van in Dallas:

@Danne - Absolutely, canadian bacon by raptor always counts!

@T-Zero - hi there!
  10:48pm
glenn:

true enough, danne, but then again, chris bosh is a bust in miami, so who cares?
  10:49pm
Danne D:

@Nordens thank you for stocking a large portion of my New Jersey Devils with your players.
  10:49pm
Destroit:

Efd: Nothing but thanks to you, you have a great radio show, keep on doing it please. I'll be listening and spreading the word. Oh, and you should sprinkle in that hip hop fife that did your theme song in once in awhile ...that was great!
  10:49pm
Danne D:

(Adam Larsson was 3rd star tonight btw)
  10:50pm
Van in Dallas:

@Joe D - wow! I have no words. Awesomeness.
  10:50pm
T-Zero:

  10:54pm
glenn:

  10:55pm
Danne D:

Must be hard for EFD to put together a best of show since like every week is basically the best.
  10:56pm
Danne D:

Notes that it was a famous Rangers player that was a Leech ... er Leetch
  10:57pm
Van in Dallas:

That corner I spoke of earlier. It beckons. WONDERFUL show Mr. EFD! I remain listening.
  10:57pm
Danne D:

Anybody else hoping they reissue "13 Women" again next year so it can be #1 again in 2012? :)
  10:57pm
Canadian Pterodactyl:

come on, an 18 inch slimy black leech is No Big Deal if you normally fly
  10:59pm
Destroit:

Right now, we need brannigan. T'amo.
  11:02pm
Julie:

I have to check out that dark entries comp!
  11:02pm
Holly in NC:

Dark Entries is really doing an amazing job cxx - selecting their reissues.
I will NOT say"curate". It's this year's "woozy"
  11:04pm
monica:

cheri:

  11:07pm
Julie:

Monica! :) @danne I still feel sad I missed the Xmas show..I will have to go back and listen. @EFD you the man! You know Black Ice made MY list, and I have you to thank for not entirely missing out on them

  11:22pm
Holly in NC:

LOVE this Soft Moon lp.
  11:22pm
Feeling A Titch Uncomfortable:

Don't everybody respond at once.
  11:23pm
Julie:

Soft moon!!
  11:23pm
Danne D:

@Holly - Amanda recommended the Messthetics comps to me at the Record Fair and I picked up the Messthetics Greatest Hits one (can't recall the Number) and it's fantastic :)
  11:24pm
efd:

Soft Moon with the ice-breaker!
  11:24pm
Danne D:

Have a Happy New Year Cheri - stay safe
  11:25pm
Holly in NC:

@Danne - I'm envious, you have so much to look forward to! All volumes are great, 108 is especially to my taste.
  11:25pm
Van in Dallas:

Oh, hey, Texas is winning
  11:26pm
Destroit:

@ Danne d & Julie: do you have shows on fmu, and if so, when? (Monica, I got your show, it's great, not leaving you out!). Relatively new to the station, just want to figure out who is who and when is when.
  11:26pm
Holly in NC:

Danne IS the nicest guy in the world
  11:26pm
Danne D:

@Holly yeah - they had a ton of stuff at the record fair - hopefully I can get more next year :)
  11:27pm
PB:

Loving the album selections so far, efd.
  11:28pm
Van in Dallas:

Oh goodness Destroit, Julie has Dark Night of the Soul here. Best show on WFMU. Sorry all other WFMU dj's...you can all tie for #2 :)
  11:29pm
Holly in NC:

Perfect White Hills timing! Now I can walk the dog without missing more than 1 track :-)

White Hills hasn't been out of my year end top ten in...years.
  11:29pm
Destroit:

White hills is the shyt
  11:30pm
Danne D:

The record fair is poorly timed :(

@Destroit - Julie has a show - very cheerfully themed I might ad: http://www.wfmu.org/playlists/JQ

I do not have a show, I am but a humble listener like yourself and have been lucky enough to listened to and volunteered at FMU (generally during marathons) since about '97. Commenting is so much easier than calling the poor djs during their show (Terre T was VERY nice in that regard back in the day - but then again I only called once in a rare while - my moniker is an homage to her in fact). If there's a nicest person in the world it is probably Terre T (or at least I will say nobody else is nicer ;)

There is archival footage of myself on FMU air for a total of about 2 minutes - I will leave it to you to try and discover that, though (it's not easy)
  11:31pm
FELIX:

do something please w that feedback
thank you i guess its already fixed
  11:32pm
Julie:

whoa I look away and people say nice things! Thanks @Danne & @Van.
  11:32pm
Danne D:

I will say, though, Destroit that there's a sporting chance you'd hear me during the marathon if you called one of the Evan Funk Davies pledge phones as that is a regular shift for me (something that the newish 9pm slot makes much easier for me to make it for)
  11:34pm
efd:

Felix, what feedback are/were you referring to?
  11:34pm
Julie:

@Danne mentioning marathon just gave me a chill. It's here before you know it! Sleep while you can!
  11:35pm
Danne D:

@Destroit I will add that like you I first knew Julie as a friendly commenter like us before discovering her fine show :)

I'll add that Julie is also officially an FMU legend as she rode out Hurricane Irene in an epic marathon of broadcasting with Clay Pigeon. You should definitely check out in the archives.
  11:35pm
Thierry:

Happy holidays, efd and everyone!
No Feelies in any list?
  11:35pm
Danne D:

@Julie lol :) I'm already looking through my e-mails to Scott from last year to figure out when I should send him shift requests for this year :)
  11:36pm
Van in Dallas:

Oh goodness, if it were not for Julie, I never ever would have found WFMU. I can never not love Dark Night of the Soul beyond all other great programming here. Unless she unleashes raptors or something.
  11:37pm
Danne D:

Usually I'm around for at least 6 shifts though I might try and do a couple more this year. Happily the marathon (usually) does not have much in the way of work conflicts for me.
  11:37pm
Stevel:

Julie and Clay during the hurricane were AMAZING RADIO! I listened all Sunday, from Indiana! Loved every minute.
  11:37pm
Danne D:

@Van I'm afraid I have to say that if I were to make a list of shows where Raptors might appear, I'd probably have to include Julie's show on that list :)
  11:38pm
Barkevious Shabazz:

Whither Mike Douglas?
  11:38pm
glenn:

are you blushing yet, julie?
  11:38pm
Julie:

My raptors are safely caged, no worries. I feel bad for anyone who has to read the pledges I write down which, actually, might be me.
  11:38pm
Danne D:

You can tell when EFD is fighting the clock as there's more back-to-back songs and a little less microphone time. I think he's JUST going to make it all the way through though :)
  11:39pm
Destroit:

@ Julie: I am going to make an effort to phuck work, find the appropriate state of mind, and absorb your show.
@ Danne d: man I wish you lived next door, true hockey fans are hard to come by
  11:39pm
FELIX:

efd:
seems like it stopped
it was a 880 hz or so
i think i still hear it but in a much lesser db
can you tell?
  11:39pm
Julie:

As my mom might've said, "Y'all? Quit!"
  11:40pm
Julie:

show absorption yes I like that...You can get your EFD intravenously
  11:40pm
efd:

@Barkevious, I've had that damn "Happy Birthday, Jesus" song stuck in my head all week. Only myself to blame.

@Thierry, pretty sure I have the Feelies in my "bubbling under" section. Joe Belock had them at #2 (or 1a, as he put it) on his show yesterday.
  11:40pm
?:

i could have sworn wrong words was xtc.
  11:41pm
Danne D:

@Destroit ya just gotta look in the right places :) Been a Devils fans since they moved here in '82 (lucky enough to go to the 2nd game) and gone to probably at least 20 games a year since I got my license in a year that I will decline to state but that featured an unexpected playoff run :)
  11:41pm
Julie:

they DID sound like XTC
  11:41pm
PB:

@julie, I've checked out a few of your recent playlists and it looks like you're a pretty big Jefferson Airplane fan. I love the Airplane.
  11:41pm
Droll:

This is the second time today I confused Wrong Words with a Colin Moulding XTC song. Gonna have to get this record.
  11:41pm
Danne D:

@? - I agree very xtc-like
  11:41pm
Julie:

Devils fan are ya? I knew there was something fishy about you
  11:42pm
glenn:

devils shmevils.
  11:42pm
Stevel:

@?:Yes, very XTC-like.Its official!
  11:42pm
Julie:

FIVE FIVE FIVE FIVE
  11:43pm
Van in Dallas:

So. You find yourself in the same situation as Amanda earlier lol. Got any Andy Warhol handy :)
  11:43pm
Danne D:

@Julie Gotta pull for Jersey's team. I am a Bengals fan in football as no team will deign to represent New Jersey. I will add one of the things to love about FMU is that it never has eschewed its Jersey roots and location as a big part of its identity.
  11:43pm
Julie:

MARYMARYMARYMARY
  11:44pm
glenn:

yep. sloan's from halifax.
  11:44pm
Julie:

@Danne tru nuff. I have a feeling I'm gonna end up living across the river one of these days.
  11:44pm
Danne D:

All this Canadian content should keep the Raptors at bay (and Nardwuar happy)
  11:45pm
efd:

I've got a secret weapon handy in case I need a few extra minutes.
  11:45pm
Danne D:

@Julie of course which river that is is always a question around these parts.
  11:45pm
glenn:

it's making me happy, that's fer sure. eh.
  11:45pm
FELIX:

please evan or whoever is engeneering the broadcast
do notice and fix
i think i still hear it but in a much lesser db
can you tell?
  11:45pm
Van in Dallas:

NOTHING can truly keep the raptors at bay. Except maybe jaeger shots.
  11:45pm
Joe D.:

FUCKIN SLOAN PEOPLE

SLOAN

get in your car and drive real fast or something. Jump on the bed. Something.
  11:46pm
???:

Devastaaaatooor?
  11:46pm
Augie Rios:

For the second time today I thought Sloan was. 38 Special.
  11:46pm
Julie:

devastaaaaator!
  11:46pm
Stevel:

Started listening to efd regularly just a little under a year ago. Its one of only two scheduled media-stops all week form me. Soooooo happy with good radio.
  11:47pm
Julie:

I don't hear anything strange
  11:47pm
Holly in NC:

Apparently Cherie has a cousin named Felix.
  11:47pm
efd:

Felix, are you listening to the air signal or online? Which stream? I'm hot hearing anything odd, but I wouldn't know an 880hz tone if it slapped me in the face.
  11:47pm
Van in Dallas:

Oh. Gods. That Warhol thingy definitely COULD repel any and all raptors!
  11:48pm
Stevel:

Is there time enough left for Devestaaaaaattoooooorrrr???
  11:48pm
Danne D:

Who was in the Wed 3-6 spot that's now TBA? If ya don't mind me asking. (i.e. who was after Mary Wing).
  11:48pm
Julie:

880hz tone, weren't they a ska band?
  11:48pm
cheri:

julie i hope i see you next tuesday morning,,but again have a happy new year!
  11:48pm
880hz tone:

FRESH!
  11:48pm
Julie:

thanks Cheri you too
  11:48pm
G:

I don't hear anything; maybe it's on his end.

Not sure why he'd know the frequency by ear, but FWIW 880 hz is the A an octave above the A that orchestras tune to. It's the A on the fifth fret of the highest string of a guitar.
  11:49pm
Julie:

Mike Van Laar! I miss!
  11:49pm
Danne D:

Cute Lepers! Awesome :)
  11:49pm
Stevel:

GOD do I love Cute Lepers! I hear them nowhere but here.
  11:50pm
Julie:

Everything is coming through nice and full on my "only-one-speaker-works" setup
  11:50pm
Van in Dallas:

I'm listening in from Friday afternoon, in the future, as I always do, right? Sounds great from the future!
  11:50pm
12539:

@G, so that's an octave above Bethany's show?
  11:50pm
glenn:

no, that's the octave above a880.
  11:51pm
Danne D:

Julie :( sorry that MVL is off the schedule :( hope it's nothing serious and just a matter of bad timing.
  11:51pm
Julie:

He's good, he'll turn up for a fill-in soon I hope
  11:51pm
G:

So then it's the A two frets up on the third string? I haven't thought about hertz on guitars in a few years :-)
  11:51pm
?:

so a 1760.
  11:51pm
T-Zero:

I miss MVL, too.

@Danee D: It was a scheduling conflict.
  11:52pm
Stevel:

[Headphones on now, turning up.]
  11:52pm
G:

What kills me is does he have perfect pitch? And in hertz yet? If not, who knows what's going on. :-)
  11:52pm
Holly in NC:

@G -
!!!! Remind me to never, never play Trivial Pursuit with you!
I am impressed.
@Van - Are you aware that there will be NO Friday in Samoa this week? Good thing you don't live in Samoa!
  11:53pm
T-Zero:

Whoops. Sorry for the typo Danne
  11:53pm
Danne D:

Just saw the archive of the last MVL show :(
Well here's hoping he's back fillin' in soon.

And at least it wasn't like other recent departures ;)
  11:53pm
Stevel:

Yes again! How many good songs are ON this album?
  11:54pm
Van in Dallas:

@Holly - Well, actually, see I'm really IN Samoa as it turns Friday, and... <>
  11:54pm
Danne D:

no worries T-Zero ;)
  11:54pm
T-Zero:

@G: When was it that they had two July 4ths?
  11:54pm
glenn:

a on the 5th fret low e or open a string is a 440. a on the 7th fret d string or 2nd fret g string is a 880. a on the 10th fret b string or 5th fret high e is 1760.
  11:54pm
G:

I'm not good with memorizing random trivia. :-( I remember everything, though, if it's integrated logically as a system...
  11:54pm
FELIX:

FEEDBACK!!!
please stop it if yuo can
around 800 hz
im in south america peru
thank you
  11:54pm
Holly in NC:

A lot. Most.
  11:55pm
Destroit:

Holy shyt!! That hurricane marathon was incredible. That's when I found out about clay, didn't figure out that was Julie. What a weird night, fading in and out of sleep...and waking up to the same great and confusing thing.
  11:56pm
Holly in NC:

Van's been time-warped by Samoan raptors!
  11:56pm
Julie:

You know Tony Randall had tinnitus, i.e. Felix
  11:56pm
Danne D:

@Felix - maybe it's on your end? I hear no feedback here in NJ. Have you tried one of the different streams? Hope you get it sorted out dude.
  11:57pm
G:

Felix, I think it may be on your home system. Maybe turn off and turn back on? Check connections?

Normally in my experience, though, generic electrical feedback is B flat, not A :-)
  11:57pm
Julie:

what, no drumroll?
  11:57pm
12539:

Thanks for a great year of radio, Mr Funk.
  11:57pm
Stevel:

Great night. Good night.
  11:58pm
FELIX:

Holly you hear the feedback too?
  11:58pm
efd:

Thanks so much for listening, everyone! Next week the quest begins for the best of 2012!
  11:59pm
Julie:

thanks EFD!
  11:59pm
Danne D:

Thank you EFD for all that you do. Seriously every week of your show is like a "Best Of" all year long.

Have a Happy New Year everyone!
  11:59pm
Holly in NC:

Felix, no, I only sense similar writing styles....

EFD, thank you.
  11:59pm
Van in Dallas:

@Holly - lol, you got it :)

Mr. EFD, thank you for the presentation today. Not a bad job at all. Even raptors, I think, would have liked this.

I continue to rue the fact that I did not discover your show in time.
  12:00am
FELIX:

Ill try
Thanks Evan nice show
  12:01am
FELIX:
