Aged 11 or so I became an unwitting receiver in a game of monkey in the middle with two tough girls. Girl throws me something, I catch it. Other girl charges me for the thing, I get rid of it, tossing it back more like it's hot-potato.

I learned from my oder siblings who got bullied to join the local Italian gang so the Irish gangs wouldn't mess. On the way to guitar lessons had my guitar commandeered by said gang. They strummed it a few times then gave it back unscathed.

As the youngest, the runt, in a large family, there was plenty beat-downs (in-house and up and down the block), but that's how you learned to stand your goddam ground (not like these NYPD [aka Bloomberg's private army] pussies who confront ordinary people with their helmets, guns, and truncheons). I got good with my mouth, and, thanks to the support of the bigger guys, came to receive a lot of respect as a result- not to be too almighty, but cf Jones & X-Ray as to how things rolled in the glory days- p.s. lovin' the show !!
