Listener comments!

  3:03am Emile:

Blast off!!
  3:04am Marmalade Kitty:

Good morning!
  3:08am Bill Mac:

Emile! MK! Welcome to Saturday!
  3:09am Marmalade Kitty:

disjointed bebop
  3:10am Bill Mac:

We're getting there
  3:10am T-Zero:

Morning. Disjointed was a good descriptor. Funny how I don't seem to mind scoundscapes or experimental noise, but have discovered I really don't care for free jazz.
  3:13am Marmalade Kitty:

Duke Ellington
  3:13am T-Zero:

Ok, well I'll have to retrac that I guess, as I like this Paulo Austerlitz.
  3:15am Bill Mac:

I was looking for an Austerlitz tune I heard last night on the way home on another station. It's called East Bay Merengue and it was pretty awesome stuff.... and somehow, we don't have it here!
  3:19am Martyn:

Good morning Bill and all. Late today, missed the Captain dagnabbit!
  3:20am Bill Mac:

Hey T.... I DO like to throw an occasional free jazz tune in to kind of throw a wrench into the proceedings... too much of it loses me though.
  3:20am Bill Mac:

Hi Martyn, it was a quickie for sure...
  3:23am T-Zero:

Morning Bill. I appreciate the sentiment or school of thought which undergirding free jazz, but I just don't enjoy it. Coltrane for instance just never appealed to me.
  3:26am Bill Mac:

I couldn't even tell you anything Coltrane did. A variation on "My Favorite Things" comes to mind, but I agree, it just doesn't do anything for me... for the most part anyway.
  3:28am Andrew:

Hi Bill & everyone ^_^
  3:29am Bill Mac:

Andrew! You were missed last week.
  3:30am T-Zero:

Evening Andrew.
  3:31am Brian in UK:

Mornin' all. Raining cats 'n dogs & I've got to take one for a walk.
Have you seen the Staff Benda Bilili film, very moving?
  3:31am Andrew:

I wasn't home. I missed you guys too.
I would've liked to hear this free jazz though, I quite like jazz.
how's everyone?
  3:32am T-Zero:

Freezing here, Andrew. Literally. But no snow yet.
  3:34am Brian in UK:

Sabah Habas Mustapha rom 3 Musaphas 3 has done some Indonesian stuff with Jungala Allstars & under his own name Colin Bass with Camel. Funny man.
  3:41am T-Zero:

What type of dog do you have Brian?
  3:43am ?:

Good Morning Bill and everyone
  3:45am Jay/ London:

oh dear forgot too put my name in the ? was me guess i am not that awake yet
  3:45am Brian in UK:

A beagle. Vet says his nose is 1000 times more sensitive than ours.
  3:47am Martyn:

@ Brian
Is your dog called Fenton by any chance?
  3:47am T-Zero:

I love dogs, but unfortunately don't have any now. I used to have a bearded collie and sheepdogs.

Hi, Jay. How you been? Haven't seen you in a while.
  3:48am Brian in UK:

First jazz record I bought was Coltrane Jazz at about 17/18. From the first tune 'Little Old Lady' it felt as if I had known that sax sound all my life. I'm sure all of you have heard people and known intuitively that they are there for the long run with you.
Ha ha no Spencer.
  3:50am T-Zero:

Did the guy get into trouble for not having the dog leashed?
  3:51am Jay/ London:

@ t-zero been haveing early mornings and very early nights but am here for bill's show
there is a French christmas market on down the road so will be going to that after breakfast
  3:51am Martyn:

As far as I know he hasn't been found.
  3:52am Bill Mac:

Morning Jay!
  3:53am Andrew:

my headphones are slowly going flat....sounds like im moving further away...& it's getting more & more distorted...
good song thoush. I like the Strawberry Alarm Clock.
  3:53am T-Zero:

I was wondering, Martyn, as hadn't heard. Having had the sheepdogs I could relate to Fenton. lol

Ah. Well glad things are good, Jay. I've been missing these early morning shows myself. Been really fatigued lately.
  3:55am Brian in UK:

Oh Bill QMS
  3:57am Bill Mac:

3 Mustaphas 3 came to Philly years ago... The scope of world music was pretty awesome, and the show was a blast. I understand the Habas had actually found a moderate amount of fame in Indonesia. haven't heard anything of his though.... sorry I didn't pick a deep QMS cut, but they don't get played that much on the show now, do they?
  3:57am Brian in UK:

I mentioned this song a couple of weeks ago on Joe McGasko's show.
  3:59am Jay/ London:

Fenton the dog has been spotted walking with his owner 'Max' on Wimbledon Common. so said one paper @ T-zero i have had more tests at the docs but am back at work not walking much getting taxis a bit so glad its the weekend
  4:00am T-Zero:

Hope the tests go well. Seems to be something serious.
  4:01am Brian in UK:

Synchronicity, have not heard this in 30 odd years. I think you would like SHM's take on Indonesia.
  4:10am Looms:

Hello there!
  4:11am Bill Mac:

Monsieur Looms!
  4:11am Andrew:

I like this Ghost track! ^_^
Hi Looms
  4:12am T-Zero:

Earth and Fire cover.
  4:13am T-Zero:

Nice guitar work, eh Andrew?
  4:14am Bill Mac:

Apparently there's a Barrett cover on here too
  4:18am T-Zero:

This is a rather bizarre cover... I like it lol
  4:18am Jay/ London:

dizzy a very slow version maybe you could play the fast version as well bill ?
  4:18am T-Zero:

Oh. The Original Sins I mean...
  4:20am Bill Mac:

I could definitely throw the Tommy Roe version on. Yeah the Original Sins is the band Brother JT was in prior to "going solo".
  4:31am Jay/ London:

thanks for putting dizzy on bill :)
  4:31am T-Zero:

Did someone else cover that Tommy Roe also? I seemed to recall it being even faster.
  4:32am Andrew:

I thought that was Ozzy...
  4:34am Andrew:

um, there was a cover of Dizzy in the early 90s...Vic Reeves & The Wonderstuff. I didn't know it was a cover at the time...
  4:35am Andrew:

I think I've seen some songs of the Wonderstuff (without vic reeves I guess)
  4:36am Jay/ London:

Dizzy covers ....It was subsequently recorded by such disparate artists as Boney M, Mike Melvoin and the Deadbeats, Wreckless Eric and Billy J. Kramer

In 1991, a cover of "Dizzy" recorded by English comedian Vic Reeves and the alternative rock band The Wonder Stuff peaked at number one for two weeks in the United Kingdom in November. This adds another key change to the eleven that already exist (from F major to G major, making a total of 12.

In 1989 it was sampled by De La Soul on a remix by Chad Jackson of their track "The Magic Number" from their album Three Feet High and Rising. In 1994 it was covered by Babe on their album 4 Babe pesme; the Babe version being entitled "Dizel". A version of the song has been recorded by Bob the Builder, with the lyrics referring to Bob's concrete mixer, Dizzy. This version of the song follows the arrangement of the 1991 Vic Reeves/Wonderstuff cover, but with a more electronic percussive backing.

In 2005, "Dizzy" was used in the soundtrack of The Sandlot 2, introducing the song to a 21st Century audience.

Tommy Roe's version was also set to three Goofy cartoons in DTV Disney. These cartoons are called Fathers week-end, Fathers are people and Father's day off.
  4:40am T-Zero:

Heh, none of those ring a bell, Jay. lol
  4:41am Jay/ London:

thay are english bands and shows T-zero
  4:41am Andrew:

Ah I love this! (au pairs) I have the album (one of a bunch of 'rare' 80s stuff I downloaded) I hadn't heard of any of them before, it's always good to hear it somewhere else ^_^
  4:42am T-Zero:

Yay. Au Pairs.
  4:43am T-Zero:

@Jay. Boney M I recognized. But I was thinking of something earlier, more about the same time as Tommy Roe. But I believe my recall was just shot lol
  4:45am T-Zero:

Oh! BTW, Bill. Glad you're still on the new schedule!
  4:45am Andrew:

Billy J Kramer was around the same time.
This sounds a bit like Debbie Harry
  4:45am Jay/ London:

oh my... Boney m did they do any good songs ????
  4:46am Bill Mac:

Thanks T! Me too. I guess my work isn't done here. I probably have you folks to thank for that... Boney M... hmmmmm
  4:49am T-Zero:

I don't really recall their songs. Just remember the name of the group. But Love for Sale maybe?
  4:52am T-Zero:

Felix Kubin! Wow, there's an icon.
  4:53am Andrew:

I used to think boney M was so 'heavy' sounding...i like some of their songs though, like this one & Ma Baker.
  4:54am Jay/ London:

oh bill you found boney m cool !
  4:55am Stanley:

Daddy Cool!!! You're Daddy Cool, Bill!
  4:55am Bill Mac:

We have the greatest hits package.... not just cool... DADDY COOL!
  4:55am Bill Mac:

Yo Stan!
  4:56am Andrew:

I love the bass on this.
  4:58am T-Zero:

Skoal Kodiak? They're new to me. Rockin!
  4:59am T-Zero:

Oh! I *really* like this.
  5:00am Bill Mac:

I thought you might be sick of them... been playing them on a weekly basis... i love this album
  5:00am Looms:

Ditto, this is catchy.
  5:01am T-Zero:

I've been missing your shows. Sleeping...
  5:03am Tomek:

  5:12am Bill Mac:

  5:13am Stanley:

  5:19am Looms:

  5:20am Andrew:

  5:21am T-Zero:

  5:22am Bill Mac:

Hey Jay, I agree! OH YEAH! Pay Me My Money Down! I'm on it!
  5:24am Andrew:
