A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

  Tue. 11/29/11 9:28am jamesie:

Trouble - always comme il faut!
  Tue. 11/29/11 9:31am ?:

Adrian, the guy in a-Ha his one of the great natural vocal talents. He's 50ish but he can still hit that damn high note on "Take on Me."

I like the colors. Very small private-press freak-folk album cover vibe.
  Tue. 11/29/11 9:31am trouble:

i did wake up in the woofmu t shirt this morning, that must be where the animal sounds came from...
  Tue. 11/29/11 9:32am Cecile:

Oh, ? was me.
  Tue. 11/29/11 9:32am Sergey:

Hello WFMU!
Tue. 11/29/11 9:33am Adrian in London:

@cecile Morten Harket. I liked some of A-ha's songs. Who didn't?
  Tue. 11/29/11 9:37am Cecile:

Exactly. They were much, much bigger in the rest of the world that here in the US, but they still have a lot of fans.
  Tue. 11/29/11 9:40am Cecile:

Hell, I bought the Take On Me single in the heart of my Killdozer loving days.
Tue. 11/29/11 9:42am Adrian in London:

Oh yes! This is such a great song. Trouble, you can go home now, your job is done. No-one will mind two hours of dead air after playing this.
  Tue. 11/29/11 9:42am sugarwolf:

is the new schedule up yet??
  Tue. 11/29/11 9:42am Cecile:

or just play three hours of "Chocolate City."
Tue. 11/29/11 9:42am Van in Dallas:

@Adrian - yes, Misty Roses were really great I thought, on Irene's show.

I think my first time here...hi trouble and fellow listeners! I'm usually diving into Julie's show on archive right now, but for some reason it hasn't been made available yet.

So, I'll enjoy this presentation :)
  Tue. 11/29/11 9:46am trouble:

goodmorning cecile! bonjour sergey. welcome van in dallas
  Tue. 11/29/11 9:47am AbeSomething:

Loving this version of The Supremes as led by Jean Terrell - it's totally new to me.
  Tue. 11/29/11 9:52am trouble:

abe that is the best record! who needs diana?
  Tue. 11/29/11 9:53am pierre:

It's a quick "bonjour" (but a true one) to you Trouble,
and to all the listeners extraordinaires.

Unfortunately i'm a non listener listener, but it's a good feeling to say "Hi"
  Tue. 11/29/11 9:53am Magda:

What a lovely shade of red for the playlist.
  Tue. 11/29/11 9:55am Torbjørn:

This is probably not the right place for this kind of message, but Rupture's playlist for yesterday is still open for comments, and the download is not available. Does the show need to be "stopped" on the system or something ?
Tue. 11/29/11 9:56am Adrian in London:

@Torbjørn Sometimes the Rupture podcasts can take a while to be uploaded, I've found. It just means lots of sonic goodness at a later date.
Tue. 11/29/11 9:59am Brian in UK:

Hello trouble, boy is it grey, wet & very windy. The sort of day for watching old black & white films.
@Van in Dallas stay tuned you will not be disappointed.
  Tue. 11/29/11 9:59am glenn:

it could also have something to do with the "system maintenance" being carried out last night.
  Tue. 11/29/11 10:02am Shana:

My outfit totally matches the colors of this playlist.
  Tue. 11/29/11 10:02am jamesie:

sort of day tomorrow to go on biggest strike since 1926, really.
  Tue. 11/29/11 10:03am Jennique:

Hey! It's the quirky National Geographic flexi-disc! What a great intro to tuning into your show! Morning Troublette!
Tue. 11/29/11 10:04am Van in Dallas:

@Brian, I've been enjoying this show so far! :)
  Tue. 11/29/11 10:08am drewo:

The Decemberists - they be good.
  Tue. 11/29/11 10:11am lickysnaps:

  Tue. 11/29/11 10:12am Jennique:

OH boy, Trouble my favorite Decembrists song is The Mariner's Revenge Song. If you have not heard it you MUST!
  Tue. 11/29/11 10:13am Torbjørn:

@Trouble, @Adrian in London: Thanks, guys, appreciate it. Loving the set, as always.
Tue. 11/29/11 10:13am Richard from Venezuela:

Greetings Trouble and all the listeners.
  Tue. 11/29/11 10:14am glenn:

doesn't colin meloy do a shirley collins tribute album thingy?
Tue. 11/29/11 10:16am Van in Dallas:

Oh hey, lookie! Julie's archive is now posted...thanks! For first time though it will have to wait its turn...I'm liking what I'm hearing here too much to interrupt it :)
  Tue. 11/29/11 10:16am jill:

Trouble - is this Nina album called "36 essential recordings"
  Tue. 11/29/11 10:19am Magda:

Tue. 11/29/11 10:21am Brian in UK:

Magda, we have a selection of home made jams, chutneys & chili relishs for your delectation. Just £2.25 a jar.
  Tue. 11/29/11 10:26am Cecile:

Oh, hell, haven't hear the Triffids in ages. Good record.
  Tue. 11/29/11 10:26am Magda:

@ Brian in UK. LOL. I try to listen to some instrumentals on my sunday morning like, Tito Puente. Which begs the question what flavor salsa would he be?
Tue. 11/29/11 10:27am pgw in mntclr:

this goldfrapp song is quite nice. it sounds like something from "I'm the One" but with clearer/cleaner/modern recording equipment.
Tue. 11/29/11 10:27am Adrian in London:

The Triffids! You're burning it up today, Trouble.
  Tue. 11/29/11 10:27am Magda:

@Brian UK. If you are serious how well do the hold up for overseas delivery?
Tue. 11/29/11 10:27am Don (trip dub):

That goldfrapp has an interesting Kate Bush feel. What do you think of the new Robbie Robertson record?
  Tue. 11/29/11 10:28am v k:

per Wiki: "In the Pines", also known as "Black Girl" and "Where Did You Sleep Last Night", is a traditional American folk song which dates back to at least the 1870s, and is believed to be Southern Appalachian in origin.
Tue. 11/29/11 10:28am Adrian in London:

I saw the remaining Triffids play a show at the Barbican in London last year, with the likes of Stuart Staples, Dev Hynes. Mick Harvey and various Aussies singing. I could have been a bit naff but it was an amazing show, a valediction of what a great songwriter David McComb was.
  Tue. 11/29/11 10:29am Marmalade Kitty:

Trouble, Goldfrapp was great.. have you heard Goldie Lookin Chain? :)
  Tue. 11/29/11 10:30am Marmalade Kitty:

word association!
  Tue. 11/29/11 10:31am Capo Strano:

Goldfrapp's Deer Stop inclined me toward a Sentimental Walk, Cosma style. Turns out instead I can't get more sentimental than hearing a song my daddy used to play but played by the Triffids. Anything from Brazil on the other hand makes me sentimental about the future.
  Tue. 11/29/11 10:31am trouble:

merci torbjorn! good morning richard! glenn i will look that up, i love all things shirley collins! ooops jill no the record is a double cd thing and it is strangely called " the solid gold collection" now that i look more closely at the top of it...
  Tue. 11/29/11 10:32am Nashville Noah:

Hey Marmalade Kitty!
  Tue. 11/29/11 10:32am Cecile:

Adrian, he was a great songwriter and years ahead of his time.
Tue. 11/29/11 10:33am Brian in UK:

@Magda. Melliflous could be Tito flavoured. We sell just to people at work and friends. Think the cost of posting would be prohibitive, sad to say. If you like hot the relish would be up your street

Marmalade Kitty Word Association Football.
  Tue. 11/29/11 10:33am Cecile:

gilles peterson has the best dang Twitter feed. I'm always learning something from it.
  Tue. 11/29/11 10:34am Nashville Noah:

  Tue. 11/29/11 10:34am Marmalade Kitty:

Hey Noah! whats happenin?
  Tue. 11/29/11 10:36am Nashville Noah:

Just working away down in Nashville, putting together a re-issue of The Fat Boys first album! Sadly, I was not given my show to do for the next season.
Tue. 11/29/11 10:37am Adrian in London:

But that Fat Boys project must be fun as hell.
I loved them. And their Unsung was great. Even though I sniffled at the end.

  Tue. 11/29/11 10:40am Marmalade Kitty:

I miss your show Noah, hope you'll be back soon! Fat BoyS!!!
Tue. 11/29/11 10:41am Don (trip dub):

I spotted an upsidedown woodpecker Nuthatch in Queens. Wait - that was the tatoo guy. There's a great pictorial of oversized Roger Tory Peterson up at NYPL.
  Tue. 11/29/11 10:41am glenn:

bird name tattoos? oh the possibilities.
Tue. 11/29/11 10:41am pgw in mntclr:

it'd be cooler(?) if the tattoos were the birds' binomial nomenclature
  Tue. 11/29/11 10:42am Nashville Noah:

I will be appearing very soon, playing rap music....
  Tue. 11/29/11 10:43am Cecile:

i got the image of the bark bird from the metropolitan museum's web site...
Tue. 11/29/11 11:16am Pat in Philadelphia:

What a coincidence before tuning into your show I was listening to an old episode of Sound Opinions from 2006 with Pere Ubu in the studio and later on in the episode they review a Bert Jansch record. I had heard the name in passing but decided now is the time to dive into his oeuvre!
Tue. 11/29/11 11:16am Van in Dallas:

Loved that Bert Jansch. Had not heard it before.
  Tue. 11/29/11 11:17am drewo:

Real Estate is good. The band, not necessarily the investment.
Tue. 11/29/11 11:22am Pat in Philadelphia:

And now the Left Bank! Excellent set this morning.
  Tue. 11/29/11 11:22am still b/p:

Was looking up info on the great Bonnie track before I had to step away --- More of that period's weird-ass changes in vocalist names and attributions by the studio, producers and writers.
Tue. 11/29/11 11:26am pgw in mntclr:

wow, this Buffy Sainte-Marie song is totally bananas in a good way
  Tue. 11/29/11 11:26am Andrew:

Buffy! Love "The Vampire" from this album...
  Tue. 11/29/11 11:37am Andrew:

Heh. Sorry, Trouble!
  Tue. 11/29/11 11:38am glenn:

the music industry is capitalism at it's most rapacious.
  Tue. 11/29/11 11:40am Tom L.:

The "normal" major label contract back then, and now really, is to give the "artist" about two cents for every record sold AFTER they pay back their advance. Thankfully, these days many have been freed from the yolk of that ugly suited "man" (and their huge payroll).

That bill is to detain US citizens on US soil indefinitely no matter what reason. It's an insult and a desperate measure Congress.
Tue. 11/29/11 11:46am Van in Dallas:

Have really enjoyed your show Trouble. Will have to stop by more often...for now gotta run :)
  Tue. 11/29/11 11:47am trouble:

bonjour pierre! sorry i couldn't say hi earlier... i agree that is a killer song
  Tue. 11/29/11 11:47am Kurt:

Of course the Taliban would never take control of the country again. I'm sure they've learned their lesson. Ha!
  Tue. 11/29/11 11:49am trouble:

cheers, van in dallas. great to hear you enjoyed your time here/hear...
  Tue. 11/29/11 11:52am glenn:

the taliban are complete douchebags, no doubt about it, but the only way to free afghanistan of them is to drop about 5000 big ass bombs on the country at once. of course, the second the dust clears, they'll be back.
  Tue. 11/29/11 11:53am drewo:

Interesting, and scary, study from Pew Research about the growing dichotomy between the military and civilians.
