  6:09am fxo:

  6:16am fxo:

'burgs, your presence is appreciated.
  6:47am rob:

play super strummer
  6:52am fxo:

is this code? Or cold?
  7:11am fxo:

well, the sunz-up (est).
  7:51am 3D-Nyc:

@ "eyes" was a light , fast-paced song in a 1930-140's movie-
"Goldiggers" possibly?
  7:56am fxo:

more like the 50's version. Good call, though.
  8:02am 3D-Nyc:

Having heard the Flamingos version first,
It was hard to imagine it not being a lighthearted song originally.

The Flamingos seem to "own" it now-and for good reason-
  8:09am fxo:

check out a scene in "The Right Stuff", with The Flamingos song. Really cool.
  8:17am 3D-Nyc:

Ah-The Original was 1934:

"I Only Have Eyes for You" is a popular song by composer Harry Warren and lyricist Al Dubin, written in 1934 for the film Dames where it was introduced by Dick Powell and Ruby Keeler.
  8:21am fxo:

thanks 3D!
  8:25am Mike Oz:

"I Only Have Eyes For You" was sung by Dick Powell to Ruby Keeler on (a studio set of) the Staten Island Ferry in 'Dames', a Busby Berkeley film that appeared in 1934, inbetween 'Gold Diggers of 1933' & 'Gold Diggers of 1935'. The song also featured in a big production number sung by a female chorus and featuring a silent Ruby Keeler and many multiple identically dressed 'Rubys'. Both versions were fairly light and much faster than The Flamingos' recording.
  8:30am fxo:

who needs Wikipedia? I have you guys. Soo, Busby Berkley had the orig., or was it Berkley who arranged The Flamingos. Oh, never mind.
  8:40am 3D-Nyc:

"eyes: really translated well into a slow, mysterious ballad.
I once heard a quiet, slow cover of Led Zeps version of "Whole lotta Love"..it worked well actually, and the thorny lyrics were still present- it beautuful, and bemusing too-
too (!)

But the flamingo's cover od "eyes" is sublime- tks !
  8:43am Mike Oz:

I second that emotion.
  8:47am Mike Oz:

Amazing! Did Macca just transmogrify into Beefheart or the other way round? (Momentarily at least, at the end of that Fireman track.) Bert Jansch RIP.
  8:48am Sam:

Eh, FrankEE! Good morning to you my brother.
  8:50am ugo:

Listening in Oz. Great show. We Cant Live Together blew me away.
  8:52am fxo:

Bert Jansch, thanks for the memory.
MOz: McCartney still has tricks up his sleeve (with Youth).
Sam, glad you checked in.
ugo: glad you dug it.
  8:52am still b/p:

Another Warren/Dubin song (also famously used in a Busby tripfest) that works well in later slowed-tempo treatments is Lullaby of Broadway.
  8:54am fxo:

by Bram Tchaikovsky?
  8:55am Sam:

I'm with you Frankie, wikipedia not necessary. It's important to actually know stuff and not be addicted to the internet.
  8:58am Mike Oz:

Thanks, Frank. Nice.
  8:58am 3D-Nyc:

tks- and have a good week all-
  8:59am still b/p:

Never heard Bram's. I think Bette Midler has done both languid and peppy versions.

Last portion of show nice....will check the archivy rest.
  8:59am fxo:

thanks for the comments, seeya next week, same webcast, same time.
