Last day for pledging to the show! Show me that support! Show the station your love! Either way.... go for it!
  Thu. 10/27/11 6:11am Chuck:

Yup, you've gotta be sort of an octopus to spin real records, Meghan!
I've have to wonder exactly which records those are that she's using, Dave....
  Thu. 10/27/11 6:12am Jay/ London:

I gave last week. everyone please give to keep this great station on the air
  Thu. 10/27/11 6:15am Meghan:

  Thu. 10/27/11 6:16am Simon:

Morning. I'm not Drunk. Unfortunately.
  Thu. 10/27/11 6:17am Chuck:

You must focus on more drinking then, Simon...
  Thu. 10/27/11 6:18am Meghan:

Kick that meter! Kick it! Kick it!
  Thu. 10/27/11 6:18am Dave B:

Now, Meghan - if you were to spin these all at 33.3, they'd last much longer
  Thu. 10/27/11 6:18am Chuck:

Wonder how many at the Meet Up were singing this song the next day...
  Thu. 10/27/11 6:19am Dave B:

I gave all I can afford. And I'm volunteering all weekend at the record fair
  Thu. 10/27/11 6:20am Simon:

I just kicked the meter. My laptop has a crack in the screen now.
  Thu. 10/27/11 6:22am the anchovy:

  Thu. 10/27/11 6:45am Jeff:

Oh yeah!
  Thu. 10/27/11 6:47am Meghan:

Jeff..... that wasn't your surprise, by the way....
  Thu. 10/27/11 6:57am Dave B:

There was a certain Canadian band that released a 7" back on Record Day...
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:03am Meghan:

The one that you all are trying to get me to play..... I see NO ONE is interested in an all RUSH show..... Only 1/5 of the way to one..... so it will NEVER happen
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:04am Dave B:

DRAT!!!!

FOLIED AGAIN!!!!

(damned meddling teenagers.... grumble grumble....)
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:04am Chuck:

Incorrect, Meghan. We just can't AFFORD an all Rush show...
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:05am Meghan:

it takes an army Chuck..... the army spoke....
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:08am Dave B:

I am the 1%

(who wants an all RU(bbi)SH show)
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:08am Chuck:

And the army is on a budget too...
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:09am northguineahills:

I'd like to hear the Fuckin' Champs cover this.
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:09am Magda:

Good Morning peeps.
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:10am Meghan:

Ha, now that would be good Northguinea!

Morning Magda!
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:12am Dave B:

what this song needs is MORE VIBRAPHONE!!!!
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:13am Chuck:

Interesting. Not a song I would have thought Bill Haley would do...
Thu. 10/27/11 7:13am dirty old man:

Yawn, the joys of a seasonal business. Good morning Meghan.
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:14am Meghan:

ha! Morning DOM
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:16am Dave B:

@ Chuck - from song facts:

The sheet music credits it as follows: Thirteen Women, by Dickie Thompson, Featured & Broadcast by Harry Leader And His Orchestra, published by Cinephonic Music Co. of London and Darby Music Co of New York. It sold for one shilling and was copyrighted in 1954. According to Haley's biographer John Swenson, in April of that year, Haley and his band together with session drummer Billy Guesack recorded "Thirteen Women" and "Rock Around The Clock" at Decca's New York studio. Swenson describes it as "A weird novelty tune about the aftermath of an atomic holocaust that leaves one man and 13 women alive." As might be expected from its credits, it is not a Rock 'n' Roll song, and might be described as a down tempo swing number. Haley's vocals are very laid back. (thanks, Alexander Baron - London, England, for above 2)
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:18am the anchovy:

This Monkees one is really gooood, thx
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:19am Chuck:

Interesting, Dave, very interesting....
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:19am Meghan:

That is my favorite Monkees stuff.... I really like their NON hits....
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:22am Dave B:

Mickey Dolenz - the one Monkee with the least talent, had a good voice IMHO
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:23am Meghan:

I do kinda think he took them into the psychedelic side of things....
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:24am Chuck:

Mike Nesmith was always my favorite Monkee. He was the "smart" one...
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:24am Meghan:

Mike had the most talent, but the worst songs.....
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:26am Chuck:

I don't know, Meghan. I always thought "You Just May Be the One" was a good song, but I'm not sure he wrote it off the top of my head...
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:27am Dave B:

"Mary, Mary" was a good Nesmith song too... (he did pen You Just May...)
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:28am Dave B:

and (nerd moment)

I STILL have my Corgi Monkee Mobile from the late 60s
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:29am Chuck:

I'll be WORKING working...
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:31am Chuck:

I still have some of my animal toys from the 60s, Dave!
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:34am Dave B:

NICE!

I also had/have (somewhere) this Monkee hand puppet with the little pull string voice box thingy...

Like this one:

  Thu. 10/27/11 7:36am Chuck:

Very cool, Dave! That could be worth something if it's in good condition....
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:39am Elwyn:

Hey everyone,

just got home from gym. legs are so tired. need fruitcups now, please!
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:39am Chuck:

Wish I still had all my G.I. Joe stuff from back then. I even had the Mercury capsule and space suit for Joe!
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:44am Dave B:

hehehehe

There were those WWII Joe's that I still have. Imperial Japanese Infantry as the Wehrmacht Infantry guy. Both had distinct heads, different from your government issue Joe...
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:46am Chuck:

Yeah, I had some of that stuff too, Dave! My mom sold all of it though when I went into the Army (along with all my bedroom furniture)...
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:46am Jeff:

Good timing! I lose reception in 5 min. And I had to pull over to say hell yeah!
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:46am Meghan:

ha! There ya go!

Morning Elwyn! Here's a fruit cup for ya!
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:48am PKNY:

Mastodon + ZZ Top = Awesome!
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:49am Jay/ London:

steam just went down for a few mins just got it back now
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:53am Elwyn:

Did i mention I found a copy of "Don't Wanna Know If You Are Lonely" (A side: Husker Du original B side: Green Day crappy cover) from the Record Store Day special in Melbourne?
  Thu. 10/27/11 7:56am Meghan:

I saw that one too.... but I already had the Husker Du version and had no care to hear how Green Day covered it.... sadly. I wish they had a better person covering...
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:00am Elwyn:

Yeah. Me no care to hear anything by Green Day but I'm probably never going to listen to it but just have it as part of the collection :-)

Also don't own a record player. *ducks for cover*
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:02am Meghan:

wow! Really? I guess that isn't that odd...... I just have way too much vinyl to not have one. I still enjoy putting on an album....
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:04am jeff p:

heh. i like the Thurston Moore single. that's a funny
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:05am Dave B:

Radiovision has been BoingBoing'd:

http://boingboing.net/2011/10/26/wfmu-radiovision-festival-this-weekend-in-new-york-city.html
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:07am jeff p:

yeah, i saw that last night, Dave B.!
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:08am Elwyn:

The way we listen to music has changed a LOT even before the iPod came. These days, I am always multitasking while listening to music.

Yet, I still listen to entire albums at a time unlike most young folk these days. However, when I buy a CD, I rip it and probably never look at it more than once every few years.
Heck, 5 years ago I thought I'd never listen to radio again, let alone to a radio station on the other side of the planet.
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:11am Josh RVA:

Enjoying my underwater breakfast.
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:11am Dave B:

I don't LIKE walnuts, and I WILL NOT EAT THEM!
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:11am Chuck:

I was in the same position 10 years ago, Elwyn. Commercial radio was such a horror I couldn't stand it. Then somehow I found WVKR here in my area and said, "Now this is how radio SHOULD be!"
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:12am Meghan:

I love walnuts! I'll eat em for ya! They look like brains!
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:13am Jay/ London:

@ Elwyn i still put lps and 45 on as i think the sound is better then cds and i try and get new lps if poss over cds and yes never though i would be tuning in to a station over the pond over British stations
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:13am Chuck:

Taste like 'em too, Meg...
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:16am Dave B:

Offer up some pistachios....

and not those stupid red ones!

http://img219.echo.cx/img219/6094/policesquad24fn.jpg
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:18am Meghan:

I find that interesting.... A) because I never thought I'd have people listening to me from all over the world. (which is all kinds of amazing BTW) and B) I rarely play a CD anymore..... I burn it onto my laptop and then it will come up in the shuffle. If I want to listen to music at home, I put on an LP
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:19am Chuck:

The red ones stain your mouth just like those goofy tables you would get at the dentist that you would chew to see if you brushed your teeth properly...
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:20am Chuck:

tables = tablets
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:23am jeff p:

does a cd rip of vinyl sound as good as the original vinyl?
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:24am Meghan:

I've only burned older stuff, so I am not sure... scratchy and all
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:24am Chuck:

If you've got a good sampling rate, sure Jeff P. Done a lot of that...
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:25am Chuck:

Yeah, and Meghan's right. The record should be in good condition...
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:27am Dave B:

oh, Meghan - "Mad Monster Party" (the same guys who did "Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer") is in the burner for Monday night.
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:27am jeff p:

I"m on the side of the party that cant' understand the desire to listen to all the scratchiness and reduced audio quality and skipping of vinyl just to get the RIAA curve applied to the music.
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:28am karen:

'morning Meghan, a little hung over from the air quality at the Ziggy Marley concert last night at the Paradise.
We have a basement full of vinyl, you know. Interesting show!
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:31am Dave B:

@Jeff P - I'm pretty sure there's an audio plug in / filter for Peak that ADDS vinyl surface noise....
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:33am Meghan:

I saw Ziggy Marley back in 1988.... opened for INXS. (wow that was long ago....)
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:35am Meghan:

Would like to be at 25% by the end of the show..... half hour left everyone! Please put in your pledges!
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:41am northguineahills:

I have never heard this Luna before.
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:44am Meghan:

I love finding new Luna tracks..... oh the basement.....
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:44am Jim Devoid:

OK, I have to admit - I dig this Smiths song...am I officially now metrosexual?
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:45am Meghan:

ha! I am amazed at the amount of guys I know that LOVE Morrissey.... Ones that I would never have thought of liking him...
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:48am mohawkdave!:

Coming in late as usual! I prefer scratchy goodness if it comes from old 45's. Especially if it was a 45 I grew up with--when I hear the songs without the scratching, somethings clearly missing. I guess it's the scratches.
@Meghan: what a great time last week! THANKS! I got home around 9am Sat,, then worked on a shed all day. Good times!
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:48am glenn:

for some weird reason, mexicans love morrissey.
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:48am Jim Devoid:

Once worked for Morrisey in the late 80's/early 90's (local roadie gig). Turned me off with bad working conditions. That's probably why I never gave the Smiths a chance!
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:49am Meghan:

Ha! Well I am glad you got home safe Mohawkdave! Though the shed part....not so much fun....
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:50am jeff p:

hey meghan, how does your upcoming trip affect the end-of-the-year show?
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:51am Dave B:

@mohawkdave: I hope you were singing this song:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ThOOrac-KQ
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:53am David B (chudleycannons):

So if it's not 1986, what year is it?
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:53am Elwyn:

@Meghan: Will you put Evil Brady in charge while you're in Ireland?
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:53am Meghan:

Jim, at that time I would have swooned to have that job!

Jeff- I am not sure. It all depends on the schedule. If I am in the same slot, we can record right after doing the first one. I have to set that up. We'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:54am jeff p:

that's what i was thinking!
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:54am Meghan:

Come on! last 2%! go go go! Last chance during show!
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:54am jeff p:

not the recording. i was thinking Evil Dave and I do the second show. you can call/skype in!
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:54am Dave B:

I can only hope Elwyn. But they won't let me in the station without a chaperone...
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:56am Dave B:

DAMN YOU PLEDGE BUTTON!!!

I CANNOT RESIST!!!!!
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:57am Dave B:

I like your idea Jeff P!
  Thu. 10/27/11 8:58am jeff p:

I thought you might, Dave B.
