Live Performance by Alana Amram & the Rough Gems (Adam Amram, James Preston, Alana Amram, Jim Campilongo)

With a stark voice that creates a fragile, intimate presence Alana Amram grew up immersed in music as the daughter of esteemed composer/ writer /poet David Amram and playwright/songwriter Lora Lee Ecobelli. Alana's band, The Rough Gems, were named after a phrase her father often used: “look for the diamonds in the sidewalk.” Amram's own delicate songs take on a rowdy, rawkus spirit, and on her latest album she covers the music of longtime Fred Neil collaborator Vince Martin. Alana Amram and the Rough Gems played live on Irene's show.

This should be fun. Hi Irene

Irene:

Hi Folks! Today will be fun, with most of the music comin' off a lot of scratchy 7" discs. And there'll be a live performance by Alana Amram and the Rough Gems, who are warming up in the Love Room. Please pledge your support to WFMU's stealth fundraiser, Shock & Awe-tober.

I used to see Vince play at "The Flick" back in the 60s and he was a major influence on me. I just sent him a guitar as he has not had one for a while. I hope to get up to NY to see him play with Alana. How about playing "Jasmine" Alana??

this week in rock-u-mentaries - thought George Harrison (Scorsese) was quite good - certainly led to a deeper appreciation; thought Pearl Jam (Cameron Crowe) was pretty good too, although i stopped watching when it reached chronological pt where i stopped digging their work

Someone's radio show needs to start and finish with the intro/out theme from this soundtrack.

Nurse Ratchett was widely misunderstood. I think she was sincere and believed in what she was doing, and was pushed to her limits.

Irene- You are so amazing for giving Alana all that radio time. I think she is a 1st rate songwriter and growing before our eyes--
  4:26pm
J.J.:

"It's For You" is credited to Lennon-McCartney and was recorded by Cilla Black several years before 3DN's version.
Picky note on the Lovin' Spoonful: shorter song title, just called
"Rain On the Roof."
