Catskill Flooding Relief update With Terry Doyle and John Savory of WIOX Community Radio in Roxbury, NY.

I should mention my connection to Roxbury. My dear friends Karen & Rick Neblung bought a house in Roxbury some 15 years ago and live there year round., My husband Peter & I spend weekends with them several times a year. Rick also hosts a show at WIOX and was instrumental (along with station manager Joe Piasek) in bringing program hosts together to populate the new station's program schedule. John Savory is another old friend of mine, living in Margaretville with Karen's sister Sue. My cousin Chris & his partner Victor, not knowing these other folks, bought a house and a large parcel of land in Roxbury a few years ago. It is a lovely area and our favorite, restful getaway from New York City.

Live performance by Les Chauds Lapins
Les Chauds Lapins (“the hot rabbits”), lead by New York’s Kurt Hoffman and Meg Reichardt, specialize in a repertoire of French swing from the 1920’s through the 40’s. The group has re-arranged long-forgotten French classics for banjo-ukes, string trio, guitar and winds, mixing the rootsiness of early American jazz with the lushness of a Bernard Hermann film soundtrack. They dropped by WFMU to play live.

Listener comments!

Hello from Madison.
Dead Corporate Eyes:

Hello from Cleveland.
G. Field:

I hate Mondays!
Dead Corporate Eyes:

this particular Monday I am not enjoying being at work. Was out pretty late last night.

Hi Irene!
I just realized that I got the wrong premium for my WFMU donation; I meant to get "Irene Trudel's You'll See Me in Your Dreams", but got something called "Amanda" instead - what shall I do?
Dead Corporate Eyes:

Laura, listen to the Amanda and you'll know what to do!
G. Field:

laura, hit snooze. it's all a bad dream.
Wild Neil:

This is so beatiful!

@G. Field. Take two espresso and call back in the morning.
Sean Gostage:

Hi Irene and hello to all your wonderful listeners, missed the first track, The Ordinaires, is that the band who did a cover of "Kashmir"?
W.G. Fields:

Nyeh, see, listen here kid, get out of here, you bother me. also get me a pizza and kick odie off the table, see.

@Laura, contact Swag Master Joe McGasko

@sean: yes.
Sean Gostage:

Not wishing to name drop but got to The Ordinaires at The Knitting Factory on their last gig in 1990 or there about's
Wild Neil:

Irene, I really needed to hear this...it reminds me of the first time I heard the Coctaue Twins....!

reminds me of the time i saw the sheepshanks at the knotting factory

Cool Sean! They did Kashmir, and there's a connection to today's live music too.

yup, i made it back in time!

I always thought it was the "Cocktail Twins."
Wild Neil:

Cocktail Twins are illegal in Monte Carlo, France and the Outer Hebrides.

hey wiox!!! wow.. hey, guys, from over here in hamden!
Wild Neil:

Cannot hear him!

If I remember right Clay got really lucky and his house didn't get it too bad, but I know the towns got hit hard
v k:

wild video of flooding in Roxbury, NY - http://www.gothamsurvival.com/?p=1280

man, roxbury, ny got hit harder than brian on a sunday night after a few cocktail twins huh

Oh wow to get Amanda instead of Irene...Laura email Joe McGasko, jmcgasko@wfmu.org

please remember to mention fleischmanns, which is not getting any attention at all..

this happened in 95 or 96. you have to question rebuilding without some kind of flood control plan, and then the dec would have to get involved

@Wild...I got here late, who sounded like the Cocteaus?

hey! that ? was me...grrr

this subject is a huge one, this dec thing... and the ability of landowners to steward their own land in relation to the flooding is greatly hampered.. huge mess of who gets control of this precious land which holds the nycity watershed.. and then the fracking is getting passed. and on and on and on..

(i'm done)

Fracking has such an appropriate name
G. Field:

i saw this group at the knitting fracktory in 2010 and boy what a catastrophe
still b/p:

Cocktail Twins...wasn't that the Bush daughters for a while?

(ok, one more thing: if this resort gets built.. what about run-off from future rains pouring down the mountain from the acres of asphalt being laid. so damn short-sighted, but oh wait, it'll bring low-paying jobs to the oppressed low-landers..tax rates will skyrocket and on and on and on.ok,now i'm done. i promise)
Wild Neil:

Short term money trumps everything...for many....
G. Field:

annie you're giving us more to chew on than a fresh lasagna.

YES!!!!! that's us.. morgan started that.. hamden inn has a facebook
Wild Neil:

Geez, couldn't they plant a lot of trees to help contain these floods in the future? Here's and idea-GRAVEL parking lots, they would drain better...just compact the snot out of them...this would be a good project for any civil engineers out there...compare and contrast? Of course, it would need to be compacted enough to withstand snow plowing...but still, gravel would drain through all those acres of surface...have goats patrolling to eat all the weeds that try to grow through...

yay for Yair Yona!

@neil: :-D
Wild Neil:

@ Annie-
Gee, this thought already existed elsewhere...check it out! You should get their salesment visit this resort and trumpet their eco-friendliness and also human property protection! http://www.invisiblestructures.com/rainstore3_faqs.html

G. Field:

beautiful melody..

such a sweet set inching near it's terminus with No Te Enganes Corazon
Wild Neil:

Irene, thank you for putting together this sweet, beautiful sad-tinged set...
