Options September 7, 2011: CUTE LEPERS live set!

Listen to this show:  Pop‑up player! | Add or read comments

'77 punk might be the jumping off point for Cute Lepers -- there's even a song called "77" on their latest album -- but they take that sound and run with it, taking it to places that the Ramones and Heartbreakers never imagined. That new album, Adventure Time (1-2-3-4-Go!/Damaged Goods), is chock-full of catchy anthemic hits and is a cinch to place in the upper reaches of efd's 2011 Best Of list. They're touring extensively across the US, so try to see them when they play your town!

See photos from the session on the Evan "Funk" Davies Show Facebook page, and please take a moment to Like the page while you're there!

  9:09pm cheri:

nobody does it better than you evan!!
  9:09pm SF Spike:

SWINGERS!!!! I love this album. And right after the Motors to boot. You're really nailing my early 80s pop faves. Thanks!
  9:10pm Sybil:

Good evening all! I'm working while listening again.

Thanks for playing "love and loneliness" - weirdly, I had that running through my head this afternoon! Spooky!
  9:11pm efd:

Cool SF Spike, glad to hear it!

Hi Cheri, thanks for listening.
  9:11pm Sybil:

What SF Spike said.
  9:12pm efd:

Hi Sybil! Wow, that is spooky! Nice to have you listening, working or otherwise.
  9:17pm Stevel:

Ah, the smell of burning leather. Reminds me of, uh... you know.
  9:20pm john:

Hey Evan! Awesome opening set....as soon as I think of something semi-cleverish to say about a song the next one's better....being eighteenish had its cool moments!
  9:21pm cheri:

i'm looking forward to the live set tonight evan,,,
  9:22pm efd:

Thanks John, glad you're enjoying it!

Cheri, it's coming right up...
  9:24pm Ajax:

KILLER A-Wine track! Never heard that one and I'm a big fan!
  9:25pm efd:

Ajax, there's another track on that same April Wine album that I bet a llot of people would think is That Petrol Emotion in a blind test.
  9:30pm Stevel:

Dog is whining--will have to wait till the set is over.
  9:32pm Carpet:

Stevel, please, gimme a break here
  9:33pm Ajax:

Wow, that April Wine is from 2006! I was gonna guess '74. Awesome.
  9:37pm Ike:

Hey what's yr hip-hop theme song that played just before the back-announce, Evan? I haven't listened to the opening hour of any of your shows in a while -- is that new? It's extremely excellent.
  9:38pm Stevel:

Carpet: You know the drill. Besides, the carpet cleaner is like a lovely massage, right?
  9:39pm efd:

be right with you, Ike!
  9:42pm efd:

OK - the intro song is by Adam Warrock, about whom you can find more info at http://adamwarrock.com

As a matter of fact he is currently on tour around the US; he'll be in the NYC area in early November.
  9:44pm Danne D:

Hi Funk Fans. @Ike that's been Evan's theme for a while - ya gotta catch up on your first hours :)

This is a great live set, EFD.
  9:44pm PB:

The third track sounded a lot like the legendary late-70s Aussie punk band The Saints (and that is a good thing).
  9:46pm Richard from Venezuela:

Good evening Evan and all the listeners.
  9:47pm cheri:

heey danne--how was vegas??
  9:47pm Ajax:

Love the Lepers backup singers! What a great idea.
  9:47pm Chop Scott:

Sounds great--cheers to Diane!
  9:48pm efd:

Those backup singers are a stroke of genius.

Thanks Scott,! Yeah, Diane does it again!
  9:49pm efd:

Hi Richard and PB and Danne, thanks for tuning in!
  9:52pm efd:

...and it was right about now that I removed the padlocks from the studio doors...
  9:53pm Danne D:

Vegas was alright, Cheri. Nothing too exciting.
  9:54pm Stevel:

Can't sit still. Gotta get up. Gotta move......
  9:57pm Danne D:

EFD does straight news so well.

Some very long (but amusing) song titles tonight.
  10:23pm Joe D:

hearing this soft tags in the background while I edit this Mozart based Insane Clown Posse track is doing bad things to my head
  10:23pm Joe D:

wait I sung what now
  10:24pm Julie:

@Joe haha check the Lepers lineup
  10:25pm efd:

Joe, it might not have anything to do with hearing Soft Tags in the background.

Also, check the credits for the Cute Lepers set.
  10:25pm Julie:

Wait, Cheri can see me? Oh my, I look a fright!
  10:26pm Joe D:

oh yeah I saw that on the video preview! Female me is kinda cute
  10:26pm efd:

Another technological advance from Kenzo.
  10:27pm cheri:

evan & julie,, cute lepers were really awsome tonight!!
  10:28pm Da Troof:

Cheri sees all, understands nothing. It's a curse of the gods.
  10:33pm cheri:

  10:34pm Stevel:

Wait! There's more!
  10:34pm Julie:

You have to admire them, playing underwater like that
  10:38pm Stevel:

BTW: I really enjoyed the video preview of Cute Lepers. Video was great, especially given the vast open spaces of your studio.
  10:40pm sleazeluver:

OMG the sleaze!!! we love the sleaze!!
  10:44pm efd:

@sleazeluver It's a good thing your name is Sleazeluver, then!
  10:46pm Doug:

I was told there'd be Head East.
  10:46pm Joe D:

  10:48pm efd:

  10:52pm Da Troof:

Weird, I heard it at Hess.
  10:56pm T-Zero:

Though I know the music, every time I see the name pigbag I expect bagpipes. lol
  11:02pm Holly in NC:

I love bagpipes. And Bill Withers. So, all roads lead to Rahsaan!
  11:04pm T-Zero:

Wait. Did efd just say pigbag is a New York group? I always thought they were Brits.
  11:09pm Aharon:

Holy crap. Erasure + Sloan. It's like a wonderful day in the distant past.
11:19pm Michael from the Left Coast:

Wow--Mr. Clean--haven't heard this in some time!
Almost put as big a smile on my face as Vatican Broadside by Half Man Half Biscuit did today

  11:31pm Holly in NC:

But White Hills makes up for my loss.
What'd I lose, anyway?
  11:32pm Vegas Oddsmaker:

Your virginity. :-P
  11:33pm efd:

11:43pm Michael from the Left Coast:

  11:44pm Holly in NC:

DUDE! You have a palmetto bug! Flying cockroach, yes.
  11:44pm Studio:

Officially renamed "Cockroach Terrace"
  11:44pm efd:

seriously, I've seen cockroaches and palmetto bugs, and this was a different color and shape.
  11:45pm Beetles:

We gotz a joizey accent, freakin palmetto bugs gotta suddern accent, yo.
  11:45pm Holly in NC:

BTW, this is my new nightmare bug:

I mean.....really,,,,,
  11:47pm Beetles:

holy shit, is dat real, or a little robot?
  11:49pm Exterminator:

Roaches and beetles seek water, so until the studio drip is fixed and totally dried out, they will come around. Just sayin. Sometimes we tell people to dry their sinks at bedtime to help get rid of a roach issue.
  11:52pm Holly in NC:

That's friggin' real. For pure grossness, check the side-barred video "praying mantis fishing for goldfish" - nor suitable for work, or the squeamish. GREAT to show vegetarian friends, however ! ;-) (sorry, sorry...)
  11:53pm Holly in NC:

"Dry their sinks". Yeah, I've heard that before...
11:54pm Praying Mantis Chowing Down on Goldfish:

mmmm, free sushi....
  11:58pm Holly in NC:

Excellent set Evan - yes, I am here for the music ! :-)
  11:59pm G:

maybe efd finds bug grossness hitting a little close to home!
  12:02am Danne D:

  12:02am Danne D:

awwwwwwwwww man :(
  12:03am G:

  12:03am Holly in NC:

  12:03am Danne D:

Thanks for a great show Evan!

Ugh for the good/bad news of Noah's impending move!
  12:05am Nat the Parker:

Noah good luck with the move! (i'll be moving around then too)
