Options Brian Turner: Playlist from September 6, 2011 Options

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

  Tue. 9/6/11 3:03pm Cheri Pi:

I love this record-nice opener BT
  Tue. 9/6/11 3:04pm BT:

Afternoon CP and everyone.
Tue. 9/6/11 3:06pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

ugghhh...the three-day weekend drag-ass feeling just won't go away
Tue. 9/6/11 3:08pm Matt from Springfield:

Hi Brian, Cheri Pi and DCE!

Whatever this Brother Ah is, I'm likin' it! 70s avant-garde jazz?
  Tue. 9/6/11 3:13pm mitch:

Tue. 9/6/11 3:13pm Matt from Springfield:

70s avant-garde African-American preaching?
The good Brother Ah does have a great message on love, and a good beat to top it off.
  Tue. 9/6/11 3:15pm G.S.H.:

The revolutionary sermon will not be televised.
  Tue. 9/6/11 3:16pm Siwel Yeuh:

That's the Power of Love!
Tue. 9/6/11 3:17pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

it's the story and the glory
Tue. 9/6/11 3:17pm Matt from Springfield:

@GSH: That's funny, I was just thinking of your original, live version of that from 1970 once he started preaching over the beat.
Tue. 9/6/11 3:19pm Matt from Springfield:

And this "Rat Race"! Never heard of this one, but I should have! Classic soul A++!
  Tue. 9/6/11 3:26pm still b/p:

Trouble played Labelle doing a version of The Revolution Will Not Be Televised this morning, so evidently it's in the cosmic post-3-day-weekend thought-thread.
  Tue. 9/6/11 3:27pm Rodney:

  Tue. 9/6/11 3:29pm Droll:

Nothing says GFOS tribute like a kids chorus accompanied by a pathetically bland piano! A true gem of that lost art.
  Tue. 9/6/11 3:29pm Carmichael:

Hiya BT and everyone. I could use a little soul stirring on a (DCE-patented) "drag ass" Tuesday. Don't ever get all of your siblings and all of their offspring in your house at the same time.
Tue. 9/6/11 3:35pm Matt from Springfield:

Wow, thanks Brian!
Wouldn't have guessed the Max Roach connection. There was something about that beat I loved!
  Tue. 9/6/11 3:43pm Jeanne:

The sound of water trickling out the gutters in my backyard is adding a very complementary sound layer to this rainy day soundtrack.
  Tue. 9/6/11 3:48pm Ty:

I liked the slide guitar, (I guess it was) on that track by Jan Dukes de Grey. Thanks for playing it.
I am working in a wine and liquor shop up in Mtown NY, and we have you over the loudspeakers in here.
  Tue. 9/6/11 3:50pm BT:

Tue. 9/6/11 3:53pm Nate in Detroit:

Is this Bryce??
  Tue. 9/6/11 3:53pm Ty's Customer:

Wow, I already feel loaded and I aint even bought nuthin yet.
Tue. 9/6/11 3:53pm Nate in Detroit:

Bah!, err...Kurt
  Tue. 9/6/11 3:54pm Ty:

you a funny customer.
  Tue. 9/6/11 3:54pm r i s k y:

Brian. This shownis true.
  Tue. 9/6/11 3:54pm Ty's Customer:

Isn't he Sammy Haggard these days?
Tue. 9/6/11 3:54pm Matt from Springfield:

@Ty's Customer: Just what I was thinking!
Tue. 9/6/11 3:55pm Matt from Springfield:

"I got the $60 right in front of you! Are you gonna shut up and sell me the weed or not?!"
  Tue. 9/6/11 3:55pm Sammy:

I can't write 55 (interesting words)!
Tue. 9/6/11 3:56pm Matt from Springfield:

Anyone else recall Clay's NUMEROUS readings from that autobio during his epic fill-in over Hurricane Irene?
  Tue. 9/6/11 3:57pm D. Boon:

@Sammy: Just write "double nickels", on the dime.
  Tue. 9/6/11 3:58pm Ty:

Brian, couldja play some Eno for our customer.
  Tue. 9/6/11 4:02pm Ty's Customer:

Might as well be Eno, moochers grassyass.
  Tue. 9/6/11 4:03pm BT:

Sorry no Eno. Is black vomit OK>?
  Tue. 9/6/11 4:03pm dw:

Lookin forward to Key of Shame in October, enjoying the stew BT!
  Tue. 9/6/11 4:05pm Ty:

instead of the black vomit, how bout some O Rappa?
(for my one customer)
  Tue. 9/6/11 4:05pm SiHV:

Oooh, Black Vomit. Perfect for the weather
  Tue. 9/6/11 4:11pm Kurt G:

my pleasure
  Tue. 9/6/11 4:20pm dw:

Tue. 9/6/11 4:21pm Matt from Springfield:

Hot Chocolate--they have such a classic 70s sound, but besides "You Sexy Thing" they aren't too well known in the US.
Tue. 9/6/11 4:25pm Matt from Springfield:

And of course old skool hip hop, he don't "even talk his rap too fast!" Such a Golden Age for rap.
  Tue. 9/6/11 4:27pm ?:

@Ty: O Rappa is awesome
  Tue. 9/6/11 4:36pm bill:

Long live Young Gods!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tue. 9/6/11 4:41pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

Tue. 9/6/11 4:53pm Matt from Springfield:

  Tue. 9/6/11 4:57pm BT:

Its two guys from wisconsin, the Wreathes. It's great!
Tue. 9/6/11 4:59pm Matt from Springfield:

All right, I thought it rocked myself!
I could tell they were singing in English with my earphones, but at first I thought it sounded German or Scandinavian.
Tue. 9/6/11 5:00pm Matt from Springfield:

Now the Thai language, is always appreciated by me. Thai food even more so...
  Tue. 9/6/11 5:07pm Mike East:

@Matt - I'm a big fan or their Iced Tea, myself
Tue. 9/6/11 5:10pm Matt from Springfield:

Hey Mike! Iced Tea or Iced Coffee--both excellent with their spicier dishes.
Apparently years ago they mixed in condensed milk from cans to sweeten, but nowadays it seems only American restaurants and the touristy areas in Thailand sell it.
  Tue. 9/6/11 5:17pm Mike East:

Yes! My first introduction to the iced coffee with condensed milk was at a Pho joint in Virginia. Deelicious!
  Tue. 9/6/11 5:29pm bill:

? !!!
  Tue. 9/6/11 5:30pm BT:

Japan 1978
Tue. 9/6/11 5:56pm Matt from Springfield:

Amazing show as always Brian. I'm excited about Tom Lax--I've enjoyed his shows of the last two years!

Have a great night everyone!
